First Trailer for Gunslinger Western 'Hickok' Starring Luke Hemsworth

    Hickok Trailer

“We gunna have to do something about that young marshall of yours…” Cinedigm has released the first official trailer for a new western called Hickok, also known as Abilene (which is the name of the town in Kansas that this takes place in). The film stars Luke Hemsworth (the other brother of Liam and Chris) as a legendary lawman and gunslinger known as “Wild Bill” Hickok who moves to Abilene and is given the task of taming the wildest cow-town in the west. Also starring Trace Adkins, Kris Kristofferson, Cameron Richardson, Kaiwi Lyman-Mersereau, Hunter Fischer, Robert Catrini, and Bruce Dern. This actually seems like a gritty western straight out of the 90s, without much to offer other than big gunfights. ›››

Review: Gunn's 'Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2' is an Emotional Cosmic Adventure

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 Review

In 2014’s Guardians of the Galaxy, James Gunn introduced the world to a team of miscreants and misfits forced to come together and save the galaxy. To put it bluntly, they’re a bunch of a-holes. With the sequel, titled Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, the latest feature from Marvel Studios, the writer-director is tasked with delivering a story that not only continues the epic and irreverent adventures of Peter Quill (Chris Pratt) and his gang of lovable weirdos, but furthers their evolution as characters as well. Set to the ’70s soft rock stylings of Awesome Mix Vol. 2, the sequel picks up a few months after the first film ended. ›››

  • First Teaser Trailer for POV Sci-Fi 'Kill Switch' Starring Dan Stevens

First Teaser Trailer for POV Sci-Fi 'Kill Switch' Starring Dan Stevens

    Kill Switch Trailer

“This is the opportunity to explore impossible frontiers.” What the heck is this? Saban Films has released a very weird teaser trailer for a sci-fi film titled Kill Switch (not related to the Steven Seagal action film Kill Switch). This one is actually based on a POV concept short film called What’s in the Box?, which a visual effects supervisor has turned into a feature-length film. And it still has some video game-esque POV shots in it. Dan Stevens stars, with Charity Wakefield, and Bérénice Marlohe. I don’t even know what is going on in this trailer, only that Dan Stevens plays a pilot, and there’s very weird sci-fi stuff happening. Fire it up. ›››

  • Emile Hirsch & Zoe Kravitz in Trailer for Crime Film 'Vincent N Roxxy'

Emile Hirsch & Zoe Kravitz in Trailer for Crime Film 'Vincent N Roxxy'

    Vincent N Roxxy Trailer

“I always felt trapped in this town…” Vertical Entertainment has debuted the trailer for an indie crime thriller romance titled Vincent N Roxxy, telling the love story between two lost souls. Zoe Kravitz stars as Roxxy, an “inner city girl in trouble”, who’s attacked on the street in broad daylight. Emile Hirsch plays Vincent, who tries to save her, but ends up falling in love with her and the two go on the run from their pasts and the dangerous people after them. The cast includes Zoey Deutch, Emory Cohen, Scott Mescudi, Beau Knapp, and Jason Mitchell. While this obviously seems like an updated, modern version of Bonnie and Clyde, or even Sid and Nancy, they’re trying to make it unique with developed characters. This doesn’t look that good, and I prefer American Honey anyway, but this might be worth checking out. Watch below. ›››

  • Official US Trailer for Wacky Superpower Comedy 'Absolutely Anything'

Official US Trailer for Wacky Superpower Comedy 'Absolutely Anything'

    Absolutely Anything Trailer

“I can solve anything in the world!” Atlas has revealed a new US trailer for the upcoming American release of a comedy film titled Absolutely Anything. This film was originally released in Europe back in 2015, and has been waiting to get released in the US until now. One way they’re marketing it: this film features the “final” performance by Robin Williams, who voices a talking dog. Absolutely Anything is about a goofy school teacher who is granted the superpowered ability to make any wish or desire come true. Simon Pegg stars, with Kate Beckinsale, Sanjeev Bhaskar, Rob Riggle, Robert Bathurst, Eddie Izzard, and Joanna Lumley. This looks pretty bad, but the only redeeming side is that it’s directed by Monty Python’s Terry Jones. Maybe there’s some good humor? It looks like this was lost in the 90s and only recently found. ›››

  • Must Watch: First Trailer for Nikolaj Arcel's 'The Dark Tower' Movie

Must Watch: First Trailer for Nikolaj Arcel's 'The Dark Tower' Movie

    The Dark Tower Trailer

“The tower protects both our worlds. If it falls, hell will be unleashed.” Sony Pictures has finally released the first trailer for the adaptation of Stephen King’s book series, The Dark Tower. Directed by Danish filmmaker Nikolaj Arcel, this cinematic version of the story is more sci-fi than fantasy, about a Gunslinger roaming an Old West-like landscape in pursuit of the man in black. Idris Elba stars as Roland Deschain, with Matthew McConaughey as the Man in Black. The cast includes Abbey Lee, Jackie Earle Haley, Fran Kranz, Tom Taylor, Katheryn Winnick, Alex McGregor, Nicholas Hamilton, Claudia Kim, and Michael Barbieri. This actually looks pretty damn cool, but it also looks a bit messy, with almost too much going on. The story framed around the young kid is quite interesting. I’ll definitely be seeing this film. ›››

  • Official Trailer for Sci-Fi Thriller 'The Recall' Featuring Wesley Snipes

Official Trailer for Sci-Fi Thriller 'The Recall' Featuring Wesley Snipes

    The Recall Trailer

“The last 60 years they’ve been conducting test runs…” Minds Eye Entertainment has unveiled an official trailer for a sci-fi thriller titled The Recall, from Italian concept artist/filmmaker Mauro Borrelli. The film is about a group of friends vacationing at a remote cabin lake house when aliens attack Earth. Soon they meet a mysterious “hunter” who has been predicting the alien’s arrival, helping them escape safely. Wesley Snipes plays that hunter and the cast includes RJ Mitte, Jedidiah Goodacre, Vicellous Shannon, Niko Pepaj, Elisha Kriis, Hannah Rose May, Laura Bilgeri, and Guy Griffithe. This looks like a wacky, terrible, straight-to-VHS flick you’d find in the back of the video rental store. But oddly it’s going to play in the special ultra-wide-screen Barco Escape cinemas. At least there’s some creepy aliens. So, anyone? ›››

  • First Trailer for New Hayao Miyazaki Documentary 'Never-Ending Man'

First Trailer for New Hayao Miyazaki Documentary 'Never-Ending Man'

    Never-Ending Man Trailer

“I’m a weak, used-up old man.” Another Miyazaki documentary? Why not! More the better, I say. Never-Ending Man: Hayao Miyazaki is another new documentary about the life and work of master animator & filmmaker Hayao Miyazaki. A few years ago, we were treated to the wonderful documentary Kingdom of Dreams and Madness profiling Studio Ghibli and its founders. This new documentary focuses specifically on Miyazaki and also focuses on his return to animation and first experiments with CGI filmmaking. This one is also in Japanese with voice-over and subtitles in English, and will air on TV in Japan this summer, though we don’t know when it’ll show up elsewhere. Director Kaku Arakawa was asked what he had learned from Miyazaki and he said: “he made me realise that if your passions are aroused, you could do anything.” ›››

Watch: Cinematography Video Essay About 'The Art of the Focus Pull'

The Art of the Focus Pull

“One of the great artists of the film is the focus puller.” Time for a lesson in filmmaking. As the introduction for this video explains, “moviegoers see focus racks all the time” but “they probably don’t even notice most of them.” This video essay, created by Philip Brubaker for Fandor, titled simply The Art of the Focus Pull examines the cinematography technique of “focus pulling” – or changing the focus in the middle of a shot. There’s different ways to achieve this, and the video covers a few of them, and shows plenty of examples. It also counts down three of the best focus pull shots in films, and each one of them is most certainly striking. ›››

  • First Trailer for Cuban Migrant Documentary 'Elián' from CNN Films

First Trailer for Cuban Migrant Documentary 'Elián' from CNN Films

    Elián Documentary Trailer

“What happened to me wasn’t a movie. It was a true story.” CNN Films along with Gravitas Ventures have revealed the official trailer for a documentary titled Elián, examining the story of Cuban immigrant Elián González. You may remember the story of Elián because it was huge news back in 1999/2000. Elián was 5-years-old when his mother attempted to take a small boat from Cuba to Florida. González’s mother and ten others died in the crossing, but Elián was saved by a fisherman. The film tells his complete story for the first time, featuring interviews with González and his family, and narration by Tony Award nominee Raúl Esparza. This is obviously a very timely doc now considering the immigration concerns in America, but it’s also an important doc about humanity and everyone’s eternal struggle to live a better life. Take a look below. ›››
