New Comic-Con Trailer for 'Professor Marston & the Wonder Women'

Professor Marston & the Wonder Women Trailer

“I write what I see, about women I know… Beautiful, brilliant, ferocious. They have the power within themselves to create their own destiny.” Annapurna Pictures has unveiled another new trailer from the New York Comic-Con for Professor Marston & the Wonder Women, which premiered at the Toronto Film Festival. The film is about the origin of the DC superhero Wonder Woman, and the man and two women behind the character. She first appeared in All Star Comics #8 in October of 1941, then on the cover in 1942. Luke Evans plays Dr. William Marston, who was in a polyamorous relationship with his wife, Elizabeth, and a former student of his, Olive Byrne. Rebecca Hall stars as Elizabeth Marston, and Bella Heathcote as Olive. This looks like an intriguing, passionate film that tells a fascinating story that will (as one of the quotes says) “change the way you look at Wonder Woman” forever. I am very much looking forward to this. ›››

The film’s extensive cast also includes Willem Dafoe, Jeremy Irons, Amber Heard, Amy Adams, Jesse Eisenberg, and J.K. Simmons as Commissioner Gordon. Sitges Review: Joe Lynch's 'Mayhem' is a Violent Takedown of Greed

    Mayhem Review

Bring down the whole damn house! Indie filmmaker Joe Lynch’s (Everly, Knights of Badassdom) new film is another violent, deranged, totally crazy, totally fun film titled Mayhem. The title, which is a bit vague, doesn’t have much to do with the plot – which is actually about a guy who works at a sleazy legal corporation that decides to take on the executives when a virus causes everyone to go crazy. I saw this film at 1AM with a crowd of horror fans at the Sitges Film Festival, which is the perfect time and place to see this kind of film, because they cheered at all the right moments. If you watch this one at home, it just won’t hit as hard, but it’s still a thoroughly entertaining horror action comedy mashup with a worthwhile message at the end of it. ›››

  • Official Trailer for Mark Webber's Hyperrealistic Film 'Flesh and Blood'

Official Trailer for Mark Webber's Hyperrealistic Film 'Flesh and Blood'

    Flesh and Blood Trailer

“You know how hard it is for him to try to find work out here with his record now…” Monument Releasing has unveiled a trailer for the new film both written and directed by acclaimed indie actor/filmmaker Mark Webber, titled Flesh and Blood. Webber tells a very personal story, blurring the line between narrative and documentary, involving his own actual, real-life family. The title of the film is a reference to his decision to confront a person from his past, raising the question: “Will Mark’s life remain defined by his own flesh and blood?” In addition to Webber, the cast includes Guillermo Santos, Mark’s younger brother who struggles with Asperger’s Syndrome in real life, Big G played by Guillermo’s actual father, and Cheri played by Cheri Honkala, Mark’s real-life mother, anti-poverty activist, and the Green Party’s nominee for vice-president in the 2012 US presidential election. Her activism and her choices in men are a constant source of conflict in her relationships with her children. This looks fascinating, emotional, and completely authentic. ›››

  • New UK Trailer for the Cabin in the Woods Horror 'Tonight She Comes'

New UK Trailer for the Cabin in the Woods Horror 'Tonight She Comes'

    Tonight She Comes Trailer

“Yesterday she was chosen, at midnight she was sacrificed, this morning she was buried. And tonight she comes.” Studiocanal UK has debuted one final official trailer for Matt Stuertz’s Tonight She Comes, a new horror film set in a cabin in the woods (but of course). This already premiered at film festivals in 2016, and opened this week in the US and is available on DVD in the UK, so if you’re interested it shouldn’t be hard to find. Tonight She Comes is about a group of friends who go to an isolated cabin after another woman goes missing nearby. As the sun sets, they drink, laugh and flirt. But as midnight approaches, little do they realize death is not far away. The cast includes Larissa White, Jenna McDonald, Dal Nicole, Frankie Ray, Adam Hartley, Cameisha Cotton, Brock Russell, and Nathan Eswine. For die-hard horror fans only. ›››

Sitges Review: 'The Osiris Child' is Ultra Ambitious Sci-Fi Storytelling

    The Osiris Child Review

Where did this film come from?! I finally caught up with a sci-fi feature called The Osiris Child, originally titled Science Fiction Volume One: The Osiris Child in full. This film is way, way, way better than it should be, and left me totally blown away. It’s not perfect by any means, but it is extremely impressive storytelling, with some cool ideas I have never seen before in any film. I can’t speak for others who don’t like it, but I can say this is exactly the kind of sci-fi I love. It’s remarkably ambitious storytelling on a galactic scale, created on a minimal budget, utilizing some sleek filmmaking tricks that actually make this successful. The world building (or rather, universe building) in this rivals Luc Besson’s Valerian, and in all honesty, upon first viewing I actually like this more than Valerian. I really, really enjoyed it – but I do not think everyone will. ›››

Learn the True Story Behind 'Serpico' in Trailer for 'Frank Serpico' Doc

    Frank Serpico Doc Trailer

“They’re afraid to be honest, and that’s a bad system.” IFC Films has debuted a trailer for hte documentary titled Frank Serpico, telling the true story of the NYPD whistleblower Frank Serpico. Back in 1973, Sidney Lumet directed Al Pacino in the feature film Serpico, telling a fictionalized version of his story of how he called out rampant corruption in the NYPD force, only to have his comrades turn against him. This new documentary goes back and lets Serpico tell his story in his own words: from his Italian-American roots in Brooklyn to his disillusionment with the NYPD and beyond. Featuring interviews with Serpico’s associates and admirers, including John Turturro, as well as music by Jack White. His story seems just as relevant today as it was when it first happened. You might want to check this out, looks like a compelling doc to see. ›››

Official UK Trailer for Cult Sci-Fi Film 'How to Talk to Girls at Parties'

How to Talk to Girls at Parties Trailer

“Welcome to the revolution!” Studiocanal has debuted the official UK trailer for John Cameron Mitchell’s cinematic adaptation of Neil Gaiman’s How to Talk to Girls at Parties, following up the Japanese trailer a few months ago. This trailer does a better job at capturing the weird, but heartfelt vibe of this film. HtTtGaP is totally wacky cult sci-fi film that premiered at the Cannes Film Festival this summer to mixed reviews (I wasn’t a big fan of it). The film stars Tony-winner Alex Sharp as Enn, a boy from the dreary London suburb of Croydon. Set in the late 70s, it’s a punk rock-infused, horny-adventure about a group of punk kids who discover a secret convent of aliens visiting planet Earth. The cast includes Elle Fanning, Nicole Kidman, Ruth Wilson, Matt Lucas, and Tom Brooke. Have a look, this just might be your jam. ›››

  • Go Inside a Prison Rehabilitation Program in Trailer for Doc 'The Work'

Go Inside a Prison Rehabilitation Program in Trailer for Doc 'The Work'

    The Work Documentary Trailer

“For four days, let’s be, what we could be…” The Orchard has unveiled an official trailer for the acclaimed documentary titled The Work, which goes inside the Folsom Prison to follow three outsiders as they watch and participate in a four-day group therapy retreat with level-four convicts. From directors Jairus McLeary & Gethin Aldous, the film first premiered at the SXSW Film Festival earlier this year where it won the Grand Jury Prize. This looks like an utterly fascinating inside look at how complicated and emotional prison reformation is, and how hard it is to rehabilitate prisoners. Described as a “powerful and rare look past the cinder block walls, steel doors and the dehumanizing tropes in our culture to reveal a movement of change and redemption that transcends what we think of as rehabilitation.” Definitely want to see it. Watch below. ›››
