Al Pacino Plays a Detective in First Trailer for 'Hangman' Crime Thriller

    Hangman Trailer

“We’re gunna find this guy.” A trailer has arrived for a new crime thriller titled Hangman, which is about detectives hunting a serial killer, but apparently it even has some similarities to Paranormal Activity. Say what? From director Johnny Martin (of this year’s Vengeance: A Love Story) the crime thriller stars Al Pacino as a homicide detective who teams up with a criminal profiler to catch a serial killer whose crimes are inspired by the children’s game Hangman. Also starring Karl Urban, Brittany Snow, Sarah Shahi, and Joe Anderson. From the footage in this trailer, this seems closer to “Mindhunter” or “True Detective” or even The Snowman than most crime dramas, but maybe there’s a big twist in it. Might be worth a look. ›››

  • Official UK Trailer for Fun 'The Prince Of Nothingwood' Documentary

Official UK Trailer for Fun 'The Prince Of Nothingwood' Documentary

    The Prince Of Nothingwood Trailer

“Hollywood (US), Bollywood (India), Nollywood (Nigeria)… Nothingwood (Afghanistan!)” You don’t want to miss this. Vertigo Releasing has debuted an official UK trailer for a documentary titled The Prince of Nothingwood, which premiered at the Cannes Film Festival this year. The film profiles an actor named Salim Shaheen, the most famous actor in Afghanistan, who produces, directs, and stars in extremely low budget movies made in his own country. He’s basically the most famous guy from “Nothingwood” and is beloved by everyone there, no matter who they are or where they’re from (in the midst of Afghanistan’s wars and poverty). It’s actually an engaging, fascinating documentary that shows the power of movies and how they can bring people together, along with an inside look at this embattled country and its people. Have fun. ›››

  • A Woman Becomes a Dog in First Trailer for Dark Comedy Film 'Bitch'

A Woman Becomes a Dog in First Trailer for Dark Comedy Film 'Bitch'

    Bitch Film Trailer

“Maybe Jill is doing you a favor? Maybe it’s the life you’re supposed to be living…” The official trailer has debuted for a bizarre dark comedy film titled Bitch, from indie writer/director Marianna Palka (Always Worthy, Good Dick), who also co-stars in the film. The film is about a woman who assumes the psyche of a vicious dog as her checked-out, philandering husband attempts to keep the family together. Palka stars as Jill, and Jason Ritter stars as her husband (the same duo who co-starred in Palka’s Good Dick in 2008, though I don’t think these are shared universes). The cast includes Jaime King and Brighton Sharbino, with appearances by Sol Rodriguez, Roger Guenveur Smith, Eric Edelstein, and Martin Starr. This looks totally wacky and biting (no pun intended) and comedic in the weirdest of ways. Worth a quick look. ›››

Watch: Sci-Fi Short 'Others Will Follow' Based on Apollo Contingency

    Others Will Follow Short Film

“Fate has ordained that the men who went to Mars to explore in peace will stay on Mars to rest in peace…” This new sci-fi short film is pretty damn cool, and worth a watch if you love space exploration as much as I do. Others Will Follow is a sci-fi short made by Andrew Finch, based on the Apollo 11 contingency speech written for Nixon in the case that the astronauts ended up on stuck on the Moon, unable to return home. The short film is about a failed mission to Mars and the value of human space flight. Featuring the voice of Bruce Greenwood, and starring Winston Tao, Erica Sabol, and Damian Chey. There’s actually some seriously outstanding VFX in this, along with a fascinating story of brave explorers. Watch below and enjoy. ›››

  • Official Trailer for Horror Thriller Film 'Angelica' Starring Jena Malone

Official Trailer for Horror Thriller Film 'Angelica' Starring Jena Malone

    Angelica Trailer

“The evil that troubles your home must see that I am your invited guest.” Freestyle has revealed an official trailer for the horror thriller Angelica, which has been sitting on the shelf for two years awaiting release. Angelica is the latest film from Mitchell Lichtenstein, the director of that wacky, freaky horror film Teeth from a decade ago. This is a supernatural thriller set in Victorian England about a couple who encounter a ghost in their house after having a baby named Angelica. It’s described as a “spellbinding ghost story about desire, repression and its consequences”, which sounds like it could be good, but also sounds like it could be bad. Jena Malone stars, also with Ed Stoppard, Janet McTeer, Tovah Feldshuh, Charles Keating, Daniel Gerroll, and James Norton. The footage is creepy, but it doesn’t seem like anything that special. ›››

  • Ethan Hawke in First Trailer for Action-Packed Film '24 Hours to Live'

Ethan Hawke in First Trailer for Action-Packed Film '24 Hours to Live'

    24 Hours to Live Trailer

“I’m going to come at you with everything I’ve got!” Saban Films has unveiled an official trailer for an action film titled 24 Hours to Live, yet another assassin movie if you’re up for another one of these. Ethan Hawke stars as a career assassin who is given a chance at redemption after his employer brings him back to life temporarily after being killed on the job. Sounds a bit like the plot to Crank, but this doesn’t look similar at all. The rest of the cast includes Xu Qing, Liam Cunningham, Rutger Hauer, and Paul Anderson. I’m seriously surprised that Ethan Hawke is in a film like this, but I guess he needs some extra work to keep things going. The clock on the arm isn’t an original idea, but it is kind of cool. Fire it up below. ›››

Watch: Uber Gorgeous Animated Adventure Short 'Fox and the Whale'

Fox and the Whale Short Film

This is one of those jaw-dropping stunning animated short films that you need to stop and watch right away. Fox and the Whale is animated short made by Robin Joseph about a fox that goes on an adventure to find a whale. While the plot is seemingly that simple on paper, this gorgeous film has so much more depth to it than that, and will leave your mind reeling. This film reminds me of Don Hertzfeldt’s animated shorts because there’s so much profoundness to it, and that’s not something easy to pull off. There’s nothing more to say now than please just take a moment to watch and enjoy this mesmerizing work of art. It’s so worth it. ›››

Full Trailer for Ryan Coogler's 'Black Panther' with Chadwick Boseman

    Black Panther Trailer

“My son, it is your time. You get to decide what kind of King you are going to be.” Disney has revealed the full-length official trailer for Marvel’s Black Panther movie, directed by the talented filmmaker Ryan Coogler (of Fruitvale Station, Creed), and it looks awesome. The story follows King T’Challa, once again played by Chadwick Boseman, who goes back to his African nation of Wakanda after the events of Civil War. There he encounters new enemies that want to challenge his seat on the throne, and destroy Wakanda. The outstanding ensemble cast includes Michael B. Jordan, Lupita Nyong’o, Danai Gurira, Martin Freeman, Daniel Kaluuya, Angela Bassett, Forest Whitaker, Andy Serkis, Florence Kasumba, John Kani, Winston Duke, and Sterling K. Brown. This looks damn good. Yes it looks like another Marvel movie, but I dig the Coogler’s style and boldness, seems a bit more unique than others. Check it out. ›››

  • Official Trailer for Mickey Keating's Horror Thriller Film 'Psychopaths'

Official Trailer for Mickey Keating's Horror Thriller Film 'Psychopaths'

    Psychopaths Trailer

“You look like a friendly crowd!” Samuel Goldywn Films recently debuted this official trailer for the new horror thriller titled Psychopaths, which first played at the Tribeca Film Festival earlier this year. This is also the latest film from Mickey Keating, director of the films Ritual, Pod, Darling, and Carnage Park, which was also released this year. Psychopaths is about seven different serial killers whose paths cross over one single, blood soaked night. This looks flashy and stylish, though it’s hard to tell what exactly is going on in this trailer. The ensemble cast includes Ashley Bell, Angela Trimbur, James Landry Hebert, Jeff Daniel Phillips, Jeremy Gardner, Ivana Shein, and Larry Fessenden. If you’re into indie horror, and masks, and serial killer films, then this is for you. But if you’re not into that, well, maybe not. Have fun. ›››

  • LFF Review: Brazilian Film 'Good Manners' is a Clever Horror Creation

LFF Review: Brazilian Film 'Good Manners' is a Clever Horror Creation

    Good Manners

This Brazilian horror drama film falls under the category of WTF?!, but it’s so so so good. Good Manners, or As Boas Maneiras in Portuguese, is a film from Brazil set in São Paulo that is unlike anything I’ve ever seen before. If I am to sum it up in one sentence it would be: a Brazilian, lesbian, musical, werewolf drama. It’s kind of a horror film, but not really, much more of a drama with some horrific elements. Good Manners is the most clever, refreshing reinvention of the werewolf film in years. It will make you freak out and laugh and cover your eyes and throw your hands up aghast in bewilderment. The less you know about it going in, the more enjoyable the experience will be when you finally watch it unfold. So be careful with what you read. ›››
