Colin Firth Learns How to Sail in First UK Trailer for Drama 'The Mercy'

    The Mercy Trailer

“Leave your doubts with us here on the shore. Take your dreams out to sea.” StudioCanal UK has debuted an official UK trailer for an indie drama titled The Mercy, which tells the story of a humble man who takes an unfinished boat on a race around the world in an adventure on his own. This tells the triumphant, inspiring, incredible true story of Donald Crowhurst, an amateur sailor who decided to take on the task of competing in the 1968 Golden Globe Race – sailing around the world solo. Colin Firth stars as Crowhurts, and the cast includes Rachel Weisz as his wife Clare Crowhurst, along with David Thewlis, Jonathan Bailey, Tim Downie, Andrew Buchan, Genevieve Gaunt, Adrian Schiller. It looks like everything you’d expect for one of these biopics, and it will surely be entertaining to watch. Firth is always remarkable. ›››

Teaser Trailer for John Krasinski's 'A Quiet Place' Starring Emily Blunt

    A Quiet Place Trailer

“If they can’t hear you, they can’t hunt you.” Paramount has unveiled the first mysterious teaser trailer for a horror thriller titled A Quiet Place, directed by and starring actor John Krasinski. Holy smokes this looks good, original, and thrilling. The film is about a family living quietly on a farm, keeping to themselves. Monsters (I think?) have taken over the world but they only hunt by sound, so if you stay quiet they can’t find you. The teaser sets up the story quite well. Emily Blunt stars, along with Noah Jupe and Millicent Simmonds (who you may recognize as the fantastic deaf actress from Wonderstruck). Okay, so I am way into this. Helluva tease. The big scratches on the wall have me intrigued – what are dealing with here? How big? Is anyone else reminded of Pitch Black? I like all the sign language already. Can’t wait to find out more. ›››

Review: Snyder's 'Justice League' Has Few Bright Spots, Mostly Dim

    Justice League Review

Director Zack Snyder’s Superman reboot, Man of Steel, received mostly positive reviews when it released in 2013, but ultimately underperformed at the box office. The second entry in the DC Extended Universe (DCEU), Snyder’s sequel Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, encountered an overwhelmingly negative response from critics and lukewarm audience sentiment, despite making $873 million. Similarly, the third film in the franchise, David Ayer’s Suicide Squad, wound up with terrible reviews but still surpassed expectations. Everything changed this year, when Patty Jenkins’ Wonder Woman received widespread critical acclaim and overwhelming audience support, becoming one of the best-reviewed superhero movies of all time and the highest-grossing superhero origin movie in history. Now, Justice League hopes to ride Wonder Woman’s coattails and deliver a fun, hopeful film that lives up to the legacy of the iconic superhero ›››

First Trailer for 'Bullet Head' Starring Adrien Brody & John Malkovich

    Bullet Head Trailer

“It’s all there. – the motherload.” Saban Films has debuted the first official trailer for a funky crime thriller titled Bullet Head, from writer/director Paul Solet. The film is about three career criminals who end up trapped inside a warehouse together, after finding money inside. A deranged dog keeps them stuck in the building. Starring Adrien Brody and John Malkovich, along with Antonio Banderas, Ori Pfeffer, Alexandra Dinu, Velizar Binev, Owen Davis, and Cristina Segovia. This seems like it could be a cool film, but I’m not too sure this one pulled that off, though I am curious at least. You may want to take a look. ›››

  • US Trailer for Crazy Russian Dash Cam Documentary 'The Road Movie'

US Trailer for Crazy Russian Dash Cam Documentary 'The Road Movie'

    The Road Movie Trailer

“World-class stupidity…” Oscilloscope Labs has unveiled a new official trailer for the brutal, the crazy, the wild, the epic documentary known as The Road Movie (or also Дорога in Russian), compiled entirely of dash cam footage from Russia. This doc played at IDFA, True/False, Sheffield, Zurich, Denver, and other film festivals and will be hitting theaters in January. One of the descriptions makes this seem a little over the top: “Super objective dashboard-cam videos grow into a strong image of the Russian national character, permanently awaiting for a miracle and the habitual approach to real dramas. Everything can happen on the road of… life.” Apparently so. This seems like should will play well to US audiences right now. This trailer is packed with some very bold, vicious quotes that don’t really make me any more interested in this. Watch out. ›››

  • Wacky New 'Wet on Wet' Teaser Trailer for Ryan Reynolds' 'Deadpool 2'

Wacky New 'Wet on Wet' Teaser Trailer for Ryan Reynolds' 'Deadpool 2'

    Deadpool 2 Teaser Trailer

“I’m glad you could join me today.” 20th Century Fox has debuted a hilarious new teaser trailer for the Deadpool sequel, currently known as just Deadpool 2, once again starring Ryan Reynolds as the Merc with a Mouth. They’re marketing for this sequel is as good as the first so far, and as things ramp up it only seems to be getting even better. This latest brilliant teaser is an example of that, an amusing mockery of Bob Ross that still delivers. Somewhere around the 1:40 mark, actual footage kicks in from the movie. The film’s full cast includes Morena Baccarin, Josh Brolin, Brianna Hildebrand, T.J. Miller, Eddie Marsan, Zazie Beetz, Leslie Uggams, Karan Soni, Julian Dennison, and Stefan Kapicic. So this looks a bit darker and more thrilling than the first Deadpool, I’m fine with that. I’m sure there’ll still be plenty of jokes. ›››

Time to Watch Documentaries – My First Visit to IDFA in Amsterdam

    IDFA Film Festival

What’s up next on the film festival tour? My next stop is at IDFA in Amsterdam in the Netherlands, in full known as International Documentary Film Festival Amsterdam. This is another film festival I’ve heard about for years, and I’m finally attending it for the first time. IDFA is known around the world as one of the premiere film festivals for documentaries. They only show and host documentaries at the festival (with a few exceptions) but that means it’s all about truth and non-fiction and cinema as an important tool for telling stories from the real world. I’m very excited to be here, I love Amsterdam, and I’m happy to start watching more documentaries. I wasn’t always a big fan of docs before, to be honest, but I am a big fan now. ›››

    Road to Justice League

“I’m putting together a team, people with special abilities…” We’re now a few days away from the highly anticipated, first ever live-action Justice League movie opening in theaters everywhere. Are you ready? Is the world ready? We’ll find out after this weekend. In anticipation of the opening, fellow movie lover Anton Volkov put together a tribute video, looking back at the four other DC movies from the DCEU that have been building up and leading to this Justice League moment – including Man of Steel and Wonder Woman. There aren’t as many movies as Marvel’s lead-up, but there’s still a good amount and finally the team will come together to save the world/universe. This is a cool video to get you in the mood for and caught up with the current DC movies, in hopes you will just have a good time at the cinema this weekend. Fire it up below. ›››

Watch: Super Entertaining Cyber Punk Animated Short Film 'X-Story'

    X-Story Trailer

If you love action adventure or anything cyber punk, you have to stop for a moment and watch this awesome short film. X-Story is an animated short made by Russian animator Vitaliy Shushko that is a cyberpunk adventure about a guy who gets a “bionic power arm” and goes to find hidden treasure. It seems like kind of an homage to video games, almost Mega Man meets Mario, but there’s also a bit of The Incredibles in here with the big villain. Whatever it is, the animation is gorgeous and feels vintage yet fresh. I really enjoyed watching Shushko’s X-Story, and I think you will also find it to be very impressive animated entertainment. ›››
