Paul Rudd is Back in First Trailer for Marvel's 'Ant-Man and the Wasp'

    Ant-Man and the Wasp Trailer

“Maybe you just need someone watching your back? Like a partner.” Disney has released the first official trailer for the Marvel Studios sequel Ant-Man and the Wasp, once again directed by Peyton Reed of the first Ant-Man movie. Paul Rudd returns (and is credited on the screenplay) as Scott Lang, also known as Ant-Man, who appeared in Captain America: Civil War during the big battle at the end. Evangeline Lilly plays The Wasp, who finally gets her own super-powered shrinking suit with wings and blasters in this one. The cast includes Michelle Pfeiffer, Hannah John-Kamen, Walton Goggins, Michael Peña, Judy Greer, Abby Ryder Fortson, Laurence Fishburne, David Dastmalchian, Vanessa Ross, Randall Park, with Michael Douglas. It looks like Fishburne might be the villain, and I’m so down for this. Enjoy. ›››

Official Trailer for Duncan Jones' Sci-Fi 'Mute' Set in Futuristic Berlin

    Mute Movie Trailer

“I want to know what to deal is with this crazy bartender.” Netflix has finally unveiled the full-length official trailer for the new Duncan Jones sci-fi movie, titled Mute, set in a futuristic Berlin. This has been Jones’ passionate project for years, he wrote the script way back before making Moon, and finally had the chance to make it with Netflix. Mute stars Alexander Skarsgård as Leo Beiler, a mute bartender with a violent past who is forced to take on the teeming underworld of a near-future Berlin as he searches for his missing girlfriend. The full cast includes Seyneb Saleh, Paul Rudd, Justin Theroux, Gilbert Owuor, Robert Sheehan, Nikki Lamborn, and Noel Clarke. We’ve been waiting forever to see this trailer, and it looks crazy funky and very cool. I’m super excited to see this, especially because it’s set in Berlin (where I now live), but also because it’s the latest Duncan Jones movie. Take a look below. “He doesn’t need words.” ›››

  • First Trailer for Sundance Horror Hit 'Hereditary' Directed by Ari Aster

First Trailer for Sundance Horror Hit 'Hereditary' Directed by Ari Aster

    Hereditary Trailer

“She wasn’t all together, there… at the end.” A24 has debuted the first trailer for the acclaimed horror film Hereditary, which just premiered at the Sundance Film Festival to some of the best buzz of the fest. From writer/director Ari Aster, the film is about a close family that starts to unravel following the death of their reclusive grandmother. As an overwhelming terror takes over their household, their peaceful existence is ripped apart, forcing their mother to explore a darker realm in order to escape the unfortunate fate they’ve inherited. Toni Collette stars, along with Gabriel Byrne, Alex Wolff, Milly Shapiro, Ann Dowd, and Zachary Arthur. This horror is about how a terrifying presence can pass down through the family, and it’s apparently thrilling not because of jump scares, but through all the “unspeakable” horror it presents. This is an outstanding first trailer, definitely promising a freaky, terrifying film that might be a big hit this summer. ›››

Sundance 2018: 'Skate Kitchen' is a Vibrant Look at NYC Skater Girls

    Skate Kitchen

Ride on, ladies. One of the biggest surprises from the 2018 Sundance Film Festival is this vibrant drama Skate Kitchen, a feature film about a group of badass female skateboarders from the New York City area. Made by filmmaker Crystal Moselle (who already won the Grand Jury Prize at Sundance in 2015 for her documentary The Wolfpack) the film follows these carefree, wild teenage girls as they deal with all the pain-in-the-ass troubles the world throws at you at that time in your life – mainly: parties, injuries, boys, security guards, parents, and other skaters. I am not a fan of The Wolfpack, so I went into this a bit concerned, but was relieved to discover it’s an enjoyable, energetic portrait of NYC kids skating around the city to survive. ›››

Sundance 2018: Good or Bad, This Year's Films Push Cinema Forward

    Sundance 2018 Films

Every year at Sundance, there are people who try to claim that it was a bad year for films. Every year, there’s critics who claim everything they saw was bad and it’s a bad line-up and there’s no good films and this year for cinema sucks. But they’re wrong. They are always wrong. Not only do I recommend trying to see more films, since there’s over 100 playing and there’s no way anyone saw everything, but it’s also about taking a closer look at how the films have evolved and what they represent. At the 2018 Sundance Film Festival, many of the films were very personal, very powerful, and sometimes provocative and challenging, for good reason (society today is pretty crazy). Even though some films weren’t that great, or didn’t turn out perfect, that does not mean they still aren’t exciting, innovative, creative, original works that push cinema forward. ›››

  • US Trailer for Very Strange Indie 'Are We Not Cats' About Eating Hair

US Trailer for Very Strange Indie 'Are We Not Cats' About Eating Hair

    Are We Not Cats Trailer

“I’ve been feeling weirdly sick recently.” Cleopatra Entertainment has debuted an official trailer for a super strange indie film titled Are We Not Cats, from writer/director Xander Robin. This first premiered at the Venice Film Festival back in 2016 but hasn’t really made any kind of impact, despite playing at numerous other festivals. The film is about a man who, after losing his job, his girlfriend, and his apartment in a single day, attempts to restart his life, until he meets a woman who shares his strange habit – eating hair. You’re not alone if that makes you gag just reading that sentence, but the trailer is something else entirely. Starring Michael Patrick Nicholson, Chelsea Lopez, and Michael Godere. There’s actually some good energy and creativity in this trailer, but I’m really not sure if I can stomach this film, even if it does look inventive. ›››

  • Alicia Vikander in First UK Trailer for Deep Sea Thriller 'Submergence'

Alicia Vikander in First UK Trailer for Deep Sea Thriller 'Submergence'

    Submergence Trailer

“I want to be beside you…” Lionsgate UK has debuted the first official trailer for a romantic drama thriller titled Submergence, which also happens to be the latest feature film made by prolific German filmmaker Wim Wenders (yeah, seriously). The film stars Alicia Vikander and James McAvoy as great lovers, but with a only-in-the-movies pitch: “In a room with no windows on the eastern coast of Africa, an Englishman, James More, is held captive by jihadist fighters. Thousands of miles away in the Greenland Sea, Danielle Flinders prepares to dive in a submersible to the ocean floor. In their confines they are drawn back to the Christmas of the previous year, where a chance encounter on a beach in Normandy led to an intense and enduring romance.” The cast includes Alexander Siddig, Celyn Jones, and Reda Kateb. This reminds me a bit of Zemeckis’ film Allied, but with a deep sea, submerged twist. Not sure if it’s going to be any good. ›››

  • Adam Devine in Trailer for Time Loop Rom-Com 'When We First Met'

Adam Devine in Trailer for Time Loop Rom-Com 'When We First Met'

    When We First Met Trailer

“If only I could go back and do everything differently.” Netflix has debuted a trailer for a romantic comedy of sorts titled When We First Met, from filmmaker Ari Sandel. The time loop comedy is about a guy who goes on the best first date with a girl, only to end up in the friend zone. Three years later he discovers he can go back in time (thanks to a photo booth), and tries to figure out how to get it right and get the girl. But will it work? Adam Devine stars as the guy, and Alexandra Daddario as the girl. Even though this is another play on time loop comedies, it still looks hilarious. The cast includes Shelley Hennig, Andrew Bachelor, Noureen DeWulf, and Robbie Amell. This kind of came out of nowhere, but I’m curious to check it out. ›››

  • Trailer for Action Thriller 'Mohawk' Starring a Badass Mohawk Warrior

Trailer for Action Thriller 'Mohawk' Starring a Badass Mohawk Warrior

    Mohawk Movie Trailer

“There’s something in these woods!” Dark Sky Films has debuted an official trailer for indie action thriller Mohawk, which premiered at the Fantasia Film Festival last year. From director Ted Geoghegan, the is about a badass, young Mohawk warrior who wages a one-woman war against bloodthirsty soldiers. Starring Canadian actress Kaniehtiio “Tiio” Horn (seen on Netflix’s “Hemlock Grove”) as Oak, who was raised on the Kahnawake Mohawk reserve in Quebec with her mother, Kahn-Tineta Horn, a Mohawk political activist who was once a ’60s fashion model. Set late in the War of 1812, Oak and her two lovers battle a squad of American soldiers hell-bent on revenge after one of her tribe sets. Also starring Eamon Farren, Justin Rain, Ezra Buzzington, Noah Segan, Ian Colletti, Robert Longstreet, and Sheri Foster. This does look cool, though I’m not sure if the action is going to be great, this trailer doesn’t have much. Take a look. ›››

Sundance 2018: 'Minding the Gap' is Honest Storytelling at its Finest

    Minding the Gap Review

There is one documentary from the 2018 Sundance Film Festival that has stuck with me and remained on my mind throughout the entire fest – Minding the Gap. I first saw this film at the very beginning of the festival just before it kicked off, and I’ve honestly been thinking about it ever since – even after seeing 38 other films. Minding the Gap is an incredibly compelling documentary made by filmmaker Bing Liu telling a personal story of his life and the lives of two of his close friends from the small town of Rockford, Illinois. This profile of “lost youth” follows them through the years as they grow up and enter adulthood, examining who they are and figuring out where they’re headed, sometimes without any answers. Bing is the real deal, and he has made one of the most refreshingly original, engaging docs about growing up in today’s America. ›››
