Ben Affleck Says His Batman Movie Doesn't Actually Have a Title Yet

Last week Ben Affleck spoke about the progress on his standalone Batman movie, and suggested that the working title was The Batman. However, the star has now explained that the DC film doesn’t actually have any title yet.

    3139852-batman.jpg

During an Facebook Live Q&A on E! News, the star was asked about the Batman film, which he will also direct and co-write. “There is no Batman movie happening yet,” he said, via Screenrant. “We’re still trying to figure it out, you know, get the script and budget and all that stuff.

“Someone said, ‘What are you calling it?’ and I was like, ‘We don’t have a name for it, we’re just going with The Batman or Batman movie.’

“I said that, and everyone was like ‘Affleck announces the name of his Batman movie.’”

Last month, Time Warner CEO Jeff Bewkes stated that the Batman film was “a year and a half out.” While it was unclear at the time if Bewkes was referring to a release in 18 months time, or whether that would be when production begins, Affleck’s new comments suggest the latter.

In August, Affleck released some early test footage of Deathstroke, who is confirmed as the villain in his film. A week later, it was confirmed that Joe Manganiello had been cast in the role.

Affleck has also addressed the criticism of this year’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, in which he made his debut as the Caped Crusader. “It was judged not necessarily on execution so much as on its tone,” he told a local Fox affiliate TV station in Washington, D.C., as reported by Entertainment Weekly. “People seemed to want to have a lighter tone to the movie, and I thought that was interesting because it’s subjective.

“Tone is not a qualitative thing. It’s subjective, right? Some tones resonate with me that might not with you.”

  • Destiny: Rise of Iron Raid's Heroic Mode Release Date Revealed

Destiny: Rise of Iron Raid's Heroic Mode Release Date Revealed

The Heroic mode for Destiny: Rise of Iron‘s new raid, Wrath of the Machine, will become available on October 18, Bungie has suggested.

The image below, shared in Bungie’s latest weekly blog post, reveals that Wrath of the Machine’s Heroic mode will go live on that day. Nowhere in the blog post’s text is the October 18 date ever confirmed, however, and Bungie specifically states that an exact date for this and other upcoming Destiny events will be discussed later.

    3139851-wrath.jpg

It did not take very long at all for the first team of players to beat Wrath of the Machine when it arrived back in September. Bungie said you can expect the developer to keep an eye on Heroic mode and report back when it can confirm which team beat the raid first on that higher difficulty level.

Looking beyond the new Heroic mode for Wrath of the Machine, Destiny players can expect some changes to raid bosses, it seems, as Bungie teased, “Raid bosses will issue some challenges of their own.” Additionally, “Outside the path of the Siege Engine, you’ll also partake in festivals and races.”

“We have some fun things to anticipate between now and the end of this calendar year,” Bungie said.

This sounds like a reference to Destiny’s upcoming Halloween and Sparrow Racing League events that Bungie confirmed back in August were on the way.

Destiny’s newest Iron Banner event is going on now; you can read more about it here.

Wolverine 3 Director Reveals a Striking New Professor X Image

Earlier this week the official title for the upcoming third Wolverine movie was revealed. The film will be called Logan, and it hits theaters in March. Now director James Mangold has tweeted a new image of Patrick Stewart, who will play a very old Professor X. Check it out below:

    3139846-cufrozsvuae9u-q.jpg

According to Stewart, this is likely to be his final appearance in the X-Men universe. In August the star told ITV News: “[You’ll see] a very different Charles Xavier. Nothing like the Charles Xavier you’ve seen in the past. I would imagine this is probably the end of this franchise for me.

“But the thing about science fiction and fantasy is that you can never, ever say it’s the end, it’s over.”

Logan will also be Hugh Jackman’s last time playing Wolverine. The star recently hinted that the movie would take a different approach to its predecessors. “Basically it’s going to be different. Very different in tone and hopefully to anything we’ve done,” he told ET Online.

The notes contained in a page of script that Mangold tweeted earlier this week certainly suggest something more hard-hitting than the previous Wolverine movies. “If you’re on the make for a hyper choreographed, gravity defying, city-block destroying, CG f**kathon, this ain’t your movie,” they state. “In this flick, people will get hurt or killed when s**t falls on them.”

Logan hits theaters on March 3, 2017.

Watch the Oculus News Briefing Right Here Later Today

It’s a big day in the world of virtual reality, as Facebook’s Oculus VR will hold the keynote address for its third annual Oculus Connect event later today.

The briefing is scheduled to begin at 10 AM PT / 1 PM ET and you will be able to watch the entire event through the Twitch livestream embed below.

According to Oculus, today’s keynote address will reveal details on “what’s next for the Oculus platform.” One possibility is that we’ll finally learn the release date and price for the Oculus Rift’s Touch controllers. These were originally pegged to launch sooner, but were later delayed to the second half of 2016.

    3139323-mark.jpg

The strange-looking, circular Touch is comprised of two controllers, one for each of your hands. Each has a traditional analog stick, two buttons, and an analog trigger, as well as haptic feedback and what Oculus calls the “hand trigger.” Touch is also capable of tracking “a set of finger poses” that work to “recognize natural hand poses like pointing, waving, or giving a thumbs-up.”

Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg posted the picture above on the social networking site yesterday, teasing that he’s “getting ready to demo something new we’ve been building in virtual reality.”

It seems likely that Zuckerberg will appear on stage during Oculus Connect today. However, it remains to be seen if Rift creator Palmer Luckey will show up.

He caused a stir last month when it was discovered that he reportedly funded a pro-Donald Trump political group that’s behind “s**tposting” memes about Hillary Clinton.

Check back with GameSpot later today for all the big Oculus news.

  • Gears of War 4 Review Roundup

Gears of War 4 Review Roundup

Reviews for Microsoft’s long-awaited and highly anticipated Gears of War 4 have arrived.

We’ve collected some review scores and editor opinions and rounded them up below, to help you decide if the Xbox One and PC game is worth your time and money.

Gears of War 4 is the first new entry in the mainline series since 2013’s Gears of War: Judgment. It’s also the first game in the franchise made by Microsoft, as Epic Games worked on the original trilogy, while People Can Fly made Judgment. Microsoft acquired the Gears of War franchise from Epic in 2014.

It is an Xbox Play Anywhere title, so buying it digitally on Xbox One gives you access to the PC version and vice versa. All progress moves between platforms.

Additionally, people who buy the $100 Gears of War 4 Ultimate Edition can start playing on October 7. The Ultimate Edition is also included with the $450 2 TB Xbox One S Gears of War 4 bundle that comes out that day, featuring a cool design that includes laser-engraved claw marks and more.

For more on the critical reaction to Gears of War 4, go to GameSpot sister site Metacritic.

In terms of story, Gears of War 4 starts a new chapter in the saga. The main protagonist of the original trilogy, Marcus Fenix, shows up, but the new heroes include his son, JD, as well as the characters Kait and Del.

    • Game: Gears of War 4
    • Developer: The Coalition (a Microsoft-owned studio)
    • Platform: Xbox One, PC
    • Release: October 11 (October 7 for Ultimate Edition owners)
    • Price: $60

    GameSpot — 7/10

“This is a shooter teetering on the edge of something greater, but despite the improvements it makes to the storied franchise, its missteps hold it back. There is inspiration here, and creativity in the way Gears of War 4 rethinks its multiplayer modes. But the lackluster campaign and technical issues are blights on an otherwise exhilarating shooter. The result is a whole that doesn’t reflect the quality of its often stellar parts.” — Mike Mahardy [Full review]

    Polygon — 9/10

“Gears of War 4 is a remarkable complete package. When I was finished with Gears of War 4’s campaign, I remember wondering why it didn’t do more. The next morning, I was playing the game again, not out of obligation, but because I wanted to. Taken all together, Gears of War 4 doesn’t completely reinvent the genre, and it’s not always ‘bigger.’ But it’s a remarkably consistent, complete package with the kind of refinement and focus few other games can manage, providing excellent solo, cooperative, and competitive options that rank it as one of the best action games of 2016.” — Arthur Gies [Full review]

    Windows Central — 5/5

“Gears of War 4 just feels great. It feels like the return of an old friend, and The Coalition masterfully weave that nostalgia into the game without smothering us in it exploitatively–which is something they very easily could have done. Gears of War 4’s greatest moments can be found in between the lines. They’re in the shadows of familiar silhouettes, in the tones of nostalgic sound effects, in every COG tag you find scattered around the battlefield, and every ridiculous, over-the-top set piece.” — Jez Corden [Full review]

    Trusted Reviews — 4.5/5

“Gears Of War 4 does everything required to get the franchise roadie-running into 2016 without losing what made it so good to begin with. One of the best games on the Xbox One.” — Simon Miller [Full review]

    Destructoid — 8/10

“The nature of Gears of War 4 is that we won’t know its legacy until there are more games in the canon. That’s frustrating now but it’ll hopefully be exciting later. This was a fine first showing but it’d be nice to see The Coalition carve its own identity for Gears of War. Using Epic’s foundation is understandable and expected, but it often feels like a crutch. Marcus’ boy had grown up just like him.” — Brett Makedonski [Full review]

    The Jimquisition — 7/10

“Nevertheless, the campaign is flimsy, and despite claims of signifying a new generation for the series, Gears of War 4 is ultimately an upholder of the status quo.” — Jim Sterling [Full review]

    US Gamer — 4/5

“The Gears of War series returns in fine form. The well-scripted and fantastic-looking campaign ends rather abruptly, but while it lasts, it’s an exciting thrill ride of intense firefights and over-the-top set pieces. It can feel a little repetitive and relentless at times, but overall it’s a lot of fun. The game’s six-mode multiplayer PvP feels refined and well designed, and offers plenty of long-term potential, while Horde 3.0 is ideal for those who want to join friends in a long, and very challenging firefight.” — Jaz Rignall [Full review]

Now, the first image that shows Labeouf as McEnroe and Sverrir Gudnason as Borg has been revealed.

    — Dom Atkins (@domatkins) October 5, 2016

Labeouf spoke to Variety about Borg/McEnroe back in May. He praised the script, calling it “brilliant,” and stating that he cried the first time he read it. As announced previously, the film will chronicle the intense 1980 Wimbledon final between the two men, regarded by some as one of the greatest matches ever played.

As for what he has in common with McEnroe, Labeouf said, “Everything in common. Passionate. Perfectionist. Narcissistic. I’m a bit of a caricature also.”

Borg/McEnroe is directed by Janus Metz Pederson (Armadillo, True Detective) and is due out in 2017. Stellan Skarsgard also stars in the movie as Borg’s trainer, Lennart Bergelin.

  • Beyond Good & Evil 2 is Officially in Development

After much teasing, Ubisoft has officially announced Beyond Good & Evil 2 is in development. The announcement was made on the Beyond Good & Evil Facebook page, which features the previously released concept art posted on series creator Michel Ancel’s Instagram page.

“If you’ve been waiting for news about BG&E … Well here you go! We are delighted to confirm that Michel Ancel is currently working with the Ubisoft Montpellier studio on a new Beyond Good & Evil game.”

Ubisoft’s Montpellier studio has contributed to a number of the company’s previous games, most recently Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon: Wildlands. It also developed the well-received Rayman Origins and Rayman Legends titles.

Beyond Good & Evil 2 was first announced in 2008, but Ubisoft didn’t show or talk much about it in the time following, leading many to question whether it was still in development. At E3 2016, Ubisoft chief executive Yves Guillemot confirmed that Ancel was working on Beyond Good & Evil 2, though he could not say when we’d see its official reveal.

“It’s difficult to say,” Guillemot said. “Michel is working on it, but he’s doing two games at the same time–he’s doing Wild at the same time. It’s coming along, but he has to spend more time on it, so we can see it faster.”

This isn’t the first time Ubisoft has said Beyond Good & Evil 2 is in development, but given the numerous pieces of concept art Ancel has posted lately, it seems like the company is ready to fully commit to the project this time.

Ubisoft also filed a trademark application for “Beyond Good & Evil” in April 2016.

  • Female-led Ocean's 11 Reboot Gets Release Date and Final Cast

Female-led Ocean's 11 Reboot Gets Release Date and Final Cast

The final cast and release date for the upcoming female-led reboot of Ocean’s Eleven have been announced. Ocean’s Eight will hit theaters on June 8, 2018, with a cast that includes Sandra Bullock, Cate Blanchett, and Anne Hathaway.

    3139300-bullock.jpg

As reported by Deadline, the movie will star Bullock, Blanchett, Hathaway, Helena Bonham Carter, Rihanna, Mindy Kaling, Awkwafina, and Sarah Paulson. It is directed by The Hunger Games‘ Gary Ross, and produced by Steven Soderbergh, who helmed the original Oceans trilogy.

According to The Tracking Board, Bullock will play the sister of Danny Ocean, the character portrayed by George Clooney in Soderbergh’s films.

Earlier this week, Kaling appeared on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert. She revealed that production on the movie would begin shortly and it would be set partly in New York. Kaling also mentioned that the film would contain a “fashion element.”

“If you took all my favorite things and shook it up in a blender, this would be the Mindy Kaling movie,” she said.

In an interview with Slashfilm in June, Ross explained that he would very much follow the tone set by the hugely successful original trilogy. “I think it’s a pretty similar tone,” he said. “You know, Steven and I are incredibly close friends, and we would not have done this if we weren’t. I don’t think he would’ve wanted anyone to do it if we weren’t. This is very much an extension and a continuation.”

Ocean’s Eleven earned $450 million worldwide in 2001. While the two sequels weren’t quite as successful, they all proved to be considerable box office hits, helping the franchise reach more than $1.1 billion at the box office, according to Box Office Mojo.

  • Overwatch Dev Teases "Dramatic" Symmetra Changes, Discusses New Heroes and Maps

Blizzard has released a new Overwatch developer update discussing what the development team is currently working on. Among these are changes to Symmetra that may be “a little bit more dramatic” than the traditional hero balances Blizzard has issued thus far.

In the video, game director Jeff Kaplan indicated Symmetra may need to be redesigned to make her a more viable character. Although Kaplan didn’t discuss specifics, he said the changes could be anything from mechanical to general feel of the character.

“I don’t think changes to Symmetra are as easy as some minor number tweaks that will have her available and ready to play in a changed fashion very soon,” he said. “I think that the types of changes that we want to look at for Symmetra might take us a little bit longer than something like the Widowmaker scope change, which was relatively small and easy to do.”

“It could be changes to some of her mechanics and just changing her overall feel through things like numbers and cooldowns,” he continued. “That’s always a possibility. But we’re going to look at some other changes and explore some other things as well that might be a little bit more dramatic in terms of design vision for her.”

Responding to suggestion from players that Symmetra should function as more of a healer, Kaplan said Blizzard wasn’t interested in shifting the original vision of the character.

“We’re not really interested at this time in exploring Symmetra as a healer. We know she’s been categorised as a support character, but that doesn’t necessarily mean to us that she needs to be a healer. If that means that we have to move her out of the support category, we’d rather do that than completely shift the character’s design to something she was never intended to be.

“What we are looking to do is make her more viable in more situations. I think right now she’s perceived as being OK or acceptable if you’re playing on defense on the first point, or early in a match. Other than that, we really don’t see Symmetra as being super viable in a lot of other situations … We want to make her less of a situational pick.”

The earliest we’re likely to see Symmetra changes is mid-November, according to Kaplan, but he noted that it could also be much later than that.

“We don’t want to rush it, we’re probably going to do a lot of internal playtesting. Then we would go to the Public Test Realm after that. We are looking at Symmetra, I realise it might not be as quick as you like for changes, but it’s definitely on the list,” he said.

Beyond Symmetra, Kaplan also touched on new heroes for the game.

“We’re actively working on more heroes right now. One hero is very far along. It’s coming together really well. We’re playtesting it internally across the entire company. We believe this hero will see the light of day sooner rather than later.

“We also have another hero prototype that we’re extremely happy with right now. This one is in very internal developer form. We’re using all placeholder models, effects, and animations just to prove out that the hero is fun. But we’ve found another really great Overwatch hero that will probably see the light of day some time next year. That one is further out.”

In terms of maps, Blizzard has one map for a pre-existing mode that is “very far along right now.” It has been playtested enough that the studio is putting art into it. There are four additional maps for new game modes that are in “prototype developer only stages.” These may not all be released, however.

“It’s very important for me to mention that I don’t think all of them will become actual maps that will end up launching. We make a lot more stuff internally on the Overwatch team than we actually end up releasing. Often times we find these prototypes don’t work for various reasons.”

Check out the video above for more details on other upcoming changes and additions, such as the ability to equip more voice lines at the same time.

In other related news, Blizzard is transitioning away from with the Battle.net name over the next few months. Services on its digital platform will continue as normal, however.

“Given that built-in multiplayer support is a well-understood concept and more of a normal expectation these days, there isn’t as much of a need to maintain a separate identity for what is essentially our networking technology,” it said previously.
