  • War of the Planet of the Apes Video Game Coming to Consoles

War of the Planet of the Apes Video Game Coming to Consoles

At a New York Comic-Con panel today, actor Andy Serkis mentioned that War of the Planet of the Apes will be accompanied by a video game, for which he’s performing motion capture. The game is coming to consoles and releases around the same time as the movie.

Not much information was shared at the panel, and Andy Serkis remained tight-lipped in a post-panel interview with GameSpot. He did, however, divulge some information about the game to us, including that it’s coming to consoles.

“I don’t think it’s ever been done before,” Serkis said. “We created it at the Imaginarium, which is my studio. Without giving too much away about it, it’s not like a first-person shooter. It feels like an interactive movie. And that’s all I can say other than that it will be coming out around the same time as the movie.”

“It’s a companion piece, it’s not based on the characters from this movie,” Serkis added.

Serkis has featured in video games in the past. He worked with DmC Devil May Cry developer Ninja Theory on motion capture and voice work in Heavenly Sword and Enslaved: Odyssey to the West, in addition to voicing characters in Risen and Volume. The actor is also set to feature in the upcoming space video game Star Citizen.

War of the Planet of the Apes opens in theaters on July 14, 2017. It stars Serkis, alongside Judy Greer (Ant-Man), Woody Harrelson (Zombieland), and Steve Zahn (Dallas Buyers Club). The film is helmed by Matt Reeves, who previously directed Dawn of the Planet of the Apes and Cloverfield. You can watch War of the Planet of the Apes’ teaser trailer here.

In-game purchases are now disabled. Additionally, players can no longer spend any earned or purchased gold on in-game items, earn a voucher for Fat Princess on PS3 for finishing level 15, or download the game from “My apps.” Players will, however, be able to play Piece of Cake in offline mode for as long as they have it on their device.

We’ve contacted Sony for more information on Piece of Cake’s closure and whether you’ll be able to download the game after its online services are shut down. We’ll update this article as we hear back.

The latest game in the series was Fat Princess Adventures. It received a score of 5/10 in GameSpot’s review, which said, “Fat Princess Adventures’ impactless combat, boring side quests, and confusing user interface all add up into something that isn’t exciting or satisfying to play.”

  • Justice League Behind-the-Scenes Video Shows Goofier Side of Batman and Friends

The Justice League trailer released back in July, and it showed a much lighter side than what was seen in the serious, dark Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. Now, director Zack Snyder has shared a behind-the-scenes video that features the superhero team goofing around.

Although it’s not an indicator of Justice League‘s tone, it’s nice to see the cast and crew of the superhero movie having some fun while shooting. The video has action shots, but moments like when Aquaman drops his trident and steals Wonder Woman’s sword are worth a smile or two. You can watch it for yourself below.

Last day filming in the UK. It has been an amazing shoot. Big thanks to everyone involved! #JusticeLeague pic.twitter.com/TEjEdlo81u

    — Zack Snyder (@ZackSnyder) October 7, 2016

At one point, we even get to see a brief shot of Henry Cavill as Superman, which is noteworthy since he was missing from the trailer. It’s worth noting that he appears in his regular red-and-blue outfit in the above video, as opposed to the black one featured in an image revealed this past August. Speaking of costumes, we also get to see a short snippet of Batman’s new suit in action and Cyborg’s robotic body before post-production effects are applied–the latter of which looks very silly standing next to Batman and the rest of the gang.

Justice League hits theaters on November 17, 2017. It stars Ben Affleck (Gone Girl) as Batman, Gal Gadot (Fast & Furious 6) as Wonder Woman, Jason Momoa (Game of Thrones) as Aquaman, Ezra Miller (Trainwreck) as The Flash, Ray Fisher (The Astronaut Wives Club) as Cyborg, and Henry Cavill (Man of Steel) as Superman.

In GameSpot’s review, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice was criticized for its dark and serious tone. Critic Randolph Ramsay said, “Joy isn’t a prerequisite for a superhero film, but a smidgen of hope can help elevate the most serious of situations. Hope is what makes all the struggles, all of the sacrifices of its characters seem worthwhile. Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice is determined not to let you feel any.”

The Black Mirror Twitter account released the official trailer for Season 3 today, and it looks like the third season will make technology seem even more terrifying than ever.

The dystopian anthology series continues with six new stories in Season 3. Two of these episodes were helmed by 10 Cloverfield Lane director Dan Trachtenberg and Pride & Prejudice director Joe Wright. You can take a peek at what some of the stories will be about in the video below.

    — Black Mirror (@blackmirror) October 7, 2016

Some of the recognizable faces in Season 3 include Bryce Dallas Howard (Jurassic World), Jerome Flynn (Game of Thrones), Wyatt Russell (22 Jump Street), Gugu Mbatha-Raw (Jupiter Ascending), and Michael Kelly (House of Cards).

Black Mirror Season 3 hits Netflix exclusively on October 21.

Netflix ordered 12 episodes of Black Mirror last year, but the other six have yet to receive release dates or any other information. In related news, RadioTimes reports that at a Season 3 screening, executive producer Annabel Jones confirmed that we’ll see a fourth season of Black Mirror on Netflix, possibly indicating that’s when we’ll see the other six episodes.

“When you’re ready to do the next series you do [it],” she said. “Thankfully Netflix loved the show, stepped in and commissioned six films. So that allows us to play out on a bigger canvas, and take more risks, explore worlds without destabilising the Black Mirror sensibility. It’s great. And we’ve got another season coming up too.”

  • Activision CEO on the "Tremendous Responsibility" of Keeping Call of Duty Exciting

Activision CEO on the "Tremendous Responsibility" of Keeping Call of Duty Exciting

Acitivision releases a new Call of Duty ever year. One of the main discussion points around the franchise is what’s new and different for each annual installment. Activision CEO Bobby Kotick said in a new interview that much care and consideration goes into every new game in all of its franchises. This is done as part of the company’s effort to make sure every new installment feels fresh and exciting, he said.

“Our priority is audience focus–the recognition and appreciation that our audiences invest so much in our franchises and our responsibility to them to continually innovate within those,” he told Forbes. “We feel a tremendous responsibility to our audiences to keep our franchises exciting.”

Kotick went on to say, “Great franchises provide great roadmaps for innovation and inspiration.” He specifically cited Star Wars and Star Trek as being examples of “sustainable entertainment franchises.” Indeed, Star Wars debuted in 1977 and Star Trek in 1966 and both remains hugely popular today.

In terms of all entertainment, Kotick said he sees Call of Duty as “one of the most enduring franchises.” Activision recently shifted the Call of Duty series to a three-year, three-studio development cycle; the extra year of development gives studios “freedom to fail” as they try out new ideas, Activision has said.

Kotick also likened Activision’s gaming business to professional sports leagues like the NFL, NBA, and MLB; they don’t come and go, but instead continue every year with new wrinkles and storylines.

Also in the interview, Kotick talked about how a benefit of making new games in an existing franchise is that you already know who your audience is.

“You have an understanding of their expectations. You then take your inspired, creative teams and think about those franchises and what you want to create that is going to delight, surprise, and entertain your fans–all with a lot of knowledge about what actually matters to them and what’s important,” he said.

“All you have to do is listen. And that doesn’t mean they’re going to give you the ideas, but they are certainly going to give you their thoughts and opinions,” Kotick added. “And if you’re respectful of those thoughts and opinions, you’re usually going to have a pretty good roadmap for innovation.”

You can read the full Forbes interview here.

The next Call of Duty game is Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare, which comes out on November 4 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. Premium versions of the game come with Modern Warfare Remastered, a new version of Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare. • Star Trek Beyond Gag Reel Features Broken Doors, Whiskey Drinking, and "The Full Shat"

The chemistry of Star Trek’s actors has always played a big part in making the long-running sci-fi franchise so popular. The latest version of the classic Enterprise crew is certainly well cast, and a new blooper video from this summer’s Star trek Beyond reveals that the humour extended behind the scenes as well. Check it out below, via Yahoo! Movies.

Star Trek Beyond hits Blu-ray and DVD on November 1, while the digital version is already available. The film was a modest box office success, earning $337 million worldwide to date, but this was a considerable drop-off in popularity from the previous two parts.

Nevertheless, a fourth movie in the reboot series has been announced. In July, it was reported that Chris Hemsworth, who had a small role in JJ Abrams’ 2009 film, would return. Abrams is producing once more, but there is no word on whether Beyond‘s Justin Lin will be back to direct.

In other Star Trek news, last month it was reported that the premiere of the upcoming CBS TV show Star Trek: Discovery had been delayed by several months. The series was originally set to debut in January, but it has moved back to May.

A statement from producers Alex Kurtzman and Bryan Fuller said: “We aim to dream big and deliver, and that means making sure the demands of physical and post-production for a show that takes place entirely in space, and the need to meet an air date, don’t result in compromised quality

“Before heading into production, we evaluated these realities with our partners at CBS and they agreed: Star Trek deserves the very best, and these extra few months will help us achieve a vision we can all be proud of.”

Disclosure: CBS is GameSpot’s parent company.

  • Rugrats and Other Classic Nickelodeon Shows Could Come Back

A Nickelodeon executive has come forward to say the network’s famous ’90s animated show, Rugrats, could come back through a revival series or movie.

According to EW, Nickelodeon executive Michael Sammaciccia said this week at New York Comic-Con that the network is looking at “all” of its franchises for possible revivals.

Nickelodeon has already announced TV movies based on Hey Arnold!, Rocko’s Modern Life, and Legends of the Hidden Temple, while Double Dare is coming back for a 30th anniversary special. Rugrats could be next to return, though nothing is confirmed at this stage.

“What’s happening with [Legends of the Hidden Temple] is that it’s allowing Nickelodeon to look at the rich library they have, and not just Rugrats,” Sammaciccia said. “All of them are being considered.”

Rugrats creators Paul Germain, Arlene Klasky, and Gabor Csupo spoke to EW about what they would like to see from a potential revival. Germain said one idea would be to keep the show in the ’90s.

“I think that’d be cool. Cell phones can be interesting, but technology has a funny way of making it very difficult to write around because people are always in constant communication with each other in a way that works against drama,” he said. “It takes a really fun writers’ obstacle away and makes it too easy.”
