See the Star Wars: Rogue One Disney Infinity Figures You'll Never Get

Disney had planned Star Wars: Rogue One figures for its toys-to-life game Disney Infinity before its cancellation in May 2016.

Some of the planned figures were seemingly almost complete: B Allen, an artist who worked on many of the game’s previous toys, has shared pictures of a Baze Malbus figurine, in addition to an alternate Darth Vader statue.

Kotaku reports that figures for the entire Rogue One rebel crew were planned, including main protagonist Jyn Erso and droid companion K-2SO. Heavenly Sword and DmC: Devil May Cry developer Ninja Theory was apparently making the accompanying in-game playset levels.

On top of the Star Wars figures, Allen posted images of scrapped toys based on Captain America: Civil War and the 2016 Disney films Moana and Zootopia.

Disney Infinity was cancelled last year, at the same time as its primary developer, Avalanche Software, closed down. Some versions of the latest in the series, Disney Infinity 3.0, no longer function as a result.

Allen’s images support earlier reports that a Disney Infinity 4.0 was planned. The canceled fourth edition in the series would reportedly have featured playsets from Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, Cars 3, and more.

  • Steam Will Let You Use a Controller for Every Game Soon

Steam’s latest client update, currently available in beta, lets you use your Xbox controller for any game on the platform.

The update allows you to map keyboard and mouse controls to any Xbox 360, Xbox One, or generic X-input controller, meaning even games without in-built controller support should work fine. The functionality was already introduced for PS4 controllers in 2016.

In addition, the patch introduces support for some third party PS4 controllers and fight sticks.

Of course, not all games are suited to gamepads, but they should at least recognise inputs from console controllers now.

There’s no word on when the update will be finalised and released to all users, but if you want to access Steam client beta releases you can do so by going to the settings menu within Steam, then choosing ‘beta participation.’ In the meantime, take a look at the complete patch notes for the latest update below.

In other PC gaming news, hardware manufacturer Razer has revealed a concept laptop with three screens, while GeForce has announced a new version of its game streaming service.

Steam Client Beta Update Patch Notes (January 5)

    General

    • Made the error clearer when you fail to install a game and don’t have enough disk space due to user quotas.

    Big Picture

    • Added support for using the overlay keyboard for games that have launchers.
    • Improved display when running on retina enabled devices under macOS.

    Linux

    • Improved interactions between the Steam runtime and host distribution libraries, which should let Steam work out of the box with open-source graphics drivers on modern distributions. If using an older distribution or running into problems, use STEAM_RUNTIME_PREFER_HOST_LIBRARIES=0 to revert to previous behavior.
    • Unify close-to-tray behavior with other platforms. If using a distribution that doesn’t have proper compatible tray support, use STEAM_FRAME_FORCE_CLOSE=0.
    • Added idle detection; friend status will now automatically switch to Away/Snooze.
    • Fixed Steam not obeying SIGTERM, Steam will now gracefully exit when logging out of a session.
    • Fixed keyboard input and cursor switching in overlay for Vulkan applications.
    • Update Vulkan loader in the Steam runtime to enable Xlib support.
    • Updated libxcb in the runtime with a fix for DRI3-related crashes on open-source graphics drivers.

    Steam Controller

    • Added Xbox 360, Xbox One, and generic X-Input controller configurator support. This allows all recognized controller types to use the advanced mapping features of the Steam Controller Configurator. Note that because X-Input currently lacks per-controller means of unique identification, all controllers of that type will share personalization and configuration settings. As they share the same inputs, Xbox 360/One/generic controllers will all see each-other’s configurations when browsing. Automatic conversion will be attempted when loading configurations from other controller types.
    • Unrecognized Generic X-Input gamepad style controllers will be recognized by the Steam Controller Configurator once their buttons have been assigned to match a generic gamepad layout.
    • Recommended configurations specified for a game by the developer will now attempt to assign based on Controller Type.
    • Added option to disable Guide Button issuing a Steam focus change. This is available through the Big Picture controller options menu. This allows better interoperability with other applications which use the Guide Button, such as PS Now.
    • Added Single Button simple button mode for trackpads. This allows a trackpad to be treated as a single giant button.
    • Fix for free-floating On Screen Keyboard running very slowly if a game was open but did not have focus or was running windowed.
    • Added independent horizontal/vertical scaling to joystick move and joystick mouse.
    • Joystick Move mode no longer shows mouse sensitivity option unless mouse output is selected.
    • Added additional support for third party PS4 controllers, including some HORI, MadCatz, and Armor pads and fight sticks.
    • Fixed a bug with PS4 triggers where they were being scaled incorrectly, leading to maxing out of the value too soon.
    • Added ability to change x-input controller order from the Controller Options menu–so in multi-controller setups of x-input games, the mapping of physical controller to x-input index can be swapped around. Note that this currently only applies to controllers that have opted into Steam Controller Configurator support.
    • Fixed Configurator Switch Controller interface not showing controller icons.
    • Re-enabled gamepad outputs for desktop configurations for users of third party programs which hook into applications via the desktop configuration.

    Steam Overlay

    • Fixed incorrect colors in screenshots and In-Home Streaming for Vulkan applications on AMD hardware

  • See Turok PC Remaster's Level Editor in Action, Out Now

Developer Nightdive Studios has released a new trailer for the remaster of Turok: Dinosaur Hunter, spotlighting the game’s newly released level editor.

Released in late December, the level editor allows players to create and tweak maps and then share their levels with the community via the Steam Workshop. Players can add fog, particles, and other lighting effects to spruce up their creations. The level editor is free and a detailed manual is available.

If you haven’t picked up the Turok remaster, now is a good time to jump in. It is currently discounted to just $5 as part of a Steam Daily Deal that started yesterday–you have until 10 AM PT to pick it up for that lower price. The game is also available on GOG and the Humble Store.

The Turok remasterfeatures enhanced graphics and a series of other improvements. A remastered version of Turok 2: Seeds of Evil is also in the works and may include multiplayer. Both of these games are reportedly headed to Xbox One at some point in the future.

Nightdive has also acquired the rights to the System Shock franchise. It is currently bringing the series back with the in-development System Shock 3.

  • Better Call Saul Season 3 Teaser Puts Jimmy Behind Bars

Saul Goodman is heading back to screens in 2017. A short teaser for the third season of the Breaking Bad spinoff Better Call Saul has been released, and it shows that Bob Odenkirk’s lawyer–real name Jimmy McGill–has found himself on the wrong wide of the law. Check it out below:

While the new season does not yet have a confirmed premiere date, the teaser states that it will arrive in Spring. Like the previous two seasons, it will screen on AMC in the US. Seasons 1 and 2 screened internationally on Netflix each week, but it has not yet been confirmed if this will be the case with Season 3.

Better Call Saul was created by Breaking Bad showrunner Vince Gilligan after that show finished in 2013. The series charts the early legal career of McGill and co-stars Jonathan Banks, who reprises his role of tough guy Mike Ehrmantraut. It also features Michael McKean, Rhea Seehorn, and Patrick Fabian. Odenkirk played the role in four seasons of Breaking Bad.

In November last year, AMC’s Charlie Coller spoke about the decision to commission a third Season. “What Vince, Peter [Gould, co-creator], Bob, and the entire team have accomplished with Better Call Saul is truly rare and remarkable,” he said. “They have taken one of the most iconic, immersive, and fan-obsessive shows in television history and created a prequel that stands on its own.

“Watching Jimmy McGill’s thoughtful, melodic, and morally flexible transformation into Saul Goodman is entertaining and delighting millions of fans, whether their starting point was Breaking Bad or not. This series has its own feel, pace, and sensibility and we can’t wait to see what this incredibly talented group comes up with next in Season 3.”

  • Star Wars Episode 8: Adam Driver Shares New Details and Teases Kylo Ren's Fate

Appearing on Larry King Now this week, actor Adam Driver was hesitant to give a lot away about Star Wars: Episode VIII but did share some insight into what fans can expect from Kylo Ren and also teased his character’s fate.

Asked what aspect of Ren he is excited for fans to see in Episode VIII, Driver said fans will see more of Ren’s “humanity” in the upcoming sci-fi film.

“I think, this is such a general answer but you know–humanity,” he said (via UPROXX and ohnotheydidn’t). “Even though it’s very much a blockbuster movie, and I’m aware of that, there was no taking that for granted and we were forced to be general. There were a lot of plot points that we knew were operating in the first one, that we get to explain more in the second one, to make both of them make sense.

“They do kind of feel socially active to me, and George Lucas originally, a lot of Star Wars was in response to Vietnam and a lot of what I remember talking about with [The Force Awakens director JJ Abrams] and [Episode VIII director Rian Johnson) was this idea of terrorism, and two sides kind of being morally justified to behave however they wanted to to get whatever they thought was absolutely correct.”

Driver was also asked if Ren survives Episode VIII, to which he responded, “Depends on what you’re idea of living is…”

Also in the interview, Driver discusses how he came to be involved with Star Wars in the first place and says he was not asked to audition.

Episode VIII comes out in December. The newest Star Wars film is the spinoff Rogue One, which came out last month and has made more than $800 million to date.

  • Uncharted 4 Sells 8.7 Million Copies

Uncharted 4 Sells 8.7 Million Copies

Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End is not only a critical darling, but the action-adventure game is also selling very well. Sony has announced that the PlayStation 4-exclusive has sold through more than 8.7 million copies around the world as of December 21. This figure includes physical copies of the game and units sold digitally through the PlayStation Store.

It was not mentioned in Sony’s press release, but the company is likely counting Uncharted 4 sales through hardware bundles. Unlike the Xbox One, which has lots and lots of available bundles, the PS4’s main bundle appears to be the Uncharted 4 package, which likely helped boost game sales.

    No Caption Provided

Uncharted 4, which came out in May 2016, sold 2.7 million copies during its first week, which was well below the 3.8 million that Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception sold on day-one. However, that game was released some years into the PlayStation 3‘s life and, therefore, had a larger audience to sell to.

The next Uncharted game is this year’s Uncharted: The Lost Legacy. This is a standlone DLC game that focuses on the characters Nadine and Chloe, not series star Nathan Drake.

Sony also recently announced that it sold 6.2 million PS4 consoles during the holiday season, helping boost total sales to 53.4 million.

  • Project Cars 2 Coming "Septemberish"

Project Cars 2 looks like it’s heading for a fall 2017 launch, with developer Slightly Mad Studios saying the racing sim is coming “Septemberish.”

In a forum post, the developer’s CEO Ian Bell addressed the sequel’s release schedule by saying, “It’s still a very tight run as we’re a bit behind on GUI and Career so nothing is set in stone yet. Current guess is Septemberish.”

Elsewhere in the forum, Bell claimed that “none of the famous [car] brands are missing this time.” Some fans were disappointed that the original Project Cars didn’t include some high-profile car makers like Ferrari, Porsche, and Lamborghini.

Project Cars 2 was first announced back in June 2015. Like the first game, it’s being crowdfunded and developed in conjunction with the community. The sequel will also bring new sports such as Rallycross, and will release on PS4, Xbox One, and PC.

We loved the original here at GameSpot–critic Austin Walker awarded it an 8/10. For more, check out our full Project Cars review.
