  • Here Are All The Songs On The Guardians Of The Galaxy 2 Soundtrack

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 hits theaters soon. While you have to wait a little while longer to see the Marvel sequel, you can now listen to the movie’s entire soundtrack.

The “Awesome Mix Vol. 2” has a number of popular licensed songs such as Norman Greenbaum’s “Spirit in the Sky” and “The Chain” by Fleetwood Mac. Also on the album are songs like “My Sweet Lord” by George Harrison, “Surrender” by Cheap Trick, and The Jackson 5’s “I Want You Back.”

According to Rolling Stone, the second Guardians of the Galaxy movie had a bigger budget, which allowed the producers to get better-known songs. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 starts with a scene set to Electric Light Orchestra’s “Mr. Blue Sky”–and it’s the “most hugely insane shot I’ve ever done,” Gunn told Rolling Stone.

“It’s the perfect song to start the movie,” says Gunn. “Because it’s really joyous, but there’s a really dark underpinning to it.”

Gunn explained that he thinks that if the Guardians had a house band, it would be ELO. He pushed hard to get the rights to “Mr. Blue Sky”–but it wasn’t easy. ELO singer Jeff Lynne approved a song for the first movie, but it was cut, which complicated the negotiating process for the sequel, apparently.

“We had to really fight to get the song, and I personally appealed to Jeff Lynne. I think we made him an offer he couldn’t refuse,” Gunn said.

Read the full Rolling Stone story here to hear directly from Gunn about the songs on the soundtrack and what they mean to Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. You can listen to the soundtrack right now through the Spotify embed below.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 hits theaters on May 5; you can check out a trailer here. In addition, Telltale has released the first episode of its adventure game series based on the franchise–click here to read GameSpot’s review.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 stars Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Karen Gillan, Bradley Cooper, Michael Rooker, Vin Diesel, Dave Bautista, and Kurt Russell. Recently, Gunn said the movie would have no fewer than five post-credit sequences.

Gunn has also confirmed that he will return to write and direct Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.

  • SNES Classic Edition Reportedly Coming This Year

After the recent discontinuation of the NES Classic Edition, Nintendo is reportedly now working on a mini version of its SNES console. The SNES Classic, as it’s likely to be called, will launch “in time for Christmas this year,” according to Eurogamer.

The site says the in-development device is a major reason why Nintendo did not continue producing NES Classic units, despite it being sold out nearly everywhere due to high demand. Nintendo refused to comment when contacted by GameSpot.

The NES Classic launched in November 2016 as a miniature version of the 1983 console. It was essentially an emulator in a plug-and-play box, and it contained 30 pre-installed classic games including Super Mario Bros. 1-3, Castlevania, Donkey Kong, Final Fantasy, Punch-Out!!, and Metroid.

After launch, the device proved to be more popular than anticipated; in February, Nintendo announced that sales had reached 1.5 million sales across the globe. Regarding the stock shortages many fans were facing, Nintendo apologized and later implied that it misjudged the demand. April will see the last shipments of the device.

A SNES Classic could take a similar form to its miniature predecessor, with a number of fan-favorite games included on a small plug-and-play device. Acclaimed games for the original SNES include Super Mario World, Chrono Trigger, Super Metroid, Super Mario Kart, The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past, and many more.

What games would you like to see on any potential SNES Classic? Let us know in the comments!

  • DC's Superman Prequel Show Krypton Gets Dazzling First Trailer

DC's Superman Prequel Show Krypton Gets Dazzling First Trailer

While the future slate for DC’s movies remains up-in-the-air, its TV roster continues to thrive. The studio’s latest show is Krypton, which as the title suggests takes a look at life on Superman’s home planet before its destruction. A first teaser has been released–watch it at moviepilot.com.

    No Caption Provided

Krypton is executively produced by David Goyer, who has plenty of experience with DC’s superheroes. He co-wrote both Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Man of Steel, as well as Christopher Nolan’s Batman movies and the Constantine TV show.

The synopsis reads: “Syfy’s Krypton, the much-anticipated Superman prequel set two generations before the destruction of the legendary Man of Steel’s home planet, will follow Superman’s grandfather–whose House of El was ostracized and shamed–as he fights to redeem his family’s honor and save his beloved world from chaos.”

The show stars newcomer Cameron Cuffe as Seg-El, the grandfather of Superman. It also features Georgina Campbell (King Arthur: Legend of the Sword), Ian McElhinney (Star Wars: Rogue One), and Ann Ogbomo (World War Z).

Goyer first spoke about Krypton in 2015, where he described his plans for the show. “In terms of production value, you have to pick your moments,” he told Collider. “Should we make the show, there will definitely be some big moments. It won’t be wall to wall visual effects every single moment, and we’ll also be digging into the characters and the culture a lot more.”

Krypton doesn’t currently have a confirmed premiere date, but it is expected later in 2017.

  • Pac-Man Maker Trademark Filed By Bandai Namco

Japanese publisher Bandai Namco has filed a trademark for an unknown project titled Pac-Man Maker. The application was submitted on April 18 and is currently under review by the European Union.

Bandai Namco has not yet announced any project called Pac-Man Maker, and this application does not necessarily mean a game is in active development; companies often file for trademarks simply to protect their intellectual property or to prepare for future enterprises. Bandai Namco also runs a large arcade machine business, so Pac-Man Maker may not pertain to a mainstream console game. The previous Pac-Man related trademark the company filed for was Pac-Man Wild Edition, which appears to be a slot machine game for use in arcades only.

On the same day, the company submitted trademarks for the recently-revealed Code Vein and another unknown item called Storm Wings.

Code Vein was teased last week with a mysterious trailer and is yet to be officially unveiled properly. More details are expected on April 20, though we do already know it’s a vampire-themed RPG.

The most recent mainline Pac-Man game, meanwhile, was Pac-Man Championship Edition 2, which launched for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC last year. It manages to keep the classic formula fresh, said our reviewer Jason D’Aprile, who awarded it 8/10. Read more in our Pac-Man Championship Edition 2 review.

  • Nintendo Discontinues NES Classic Edition Globally [Update]

Update [April 19]: The NES Classic Edition has also been discontinued in Europe, a Nintendo spokesperson told Eurogamer. The console, which was called the NES Classic Mini in the territory, is no longer being manufactured in Europe. Combined with the discontinuation in Japan, that now means the miniature console is now out of print worldwide.

    Original story follows [April 13].

After just six months on the market, Nintendo says it is discontinuing the NES Classic Edition in North America. Nintendo did not provide a specific reason for why the console is being discontinued, but the plug-and-play system has been plagued with supply issues; months after its launch it was still selling out almost as quickly as new shipments were released.

“Throughout April, NOA territories will receive the last shipments of Nintendo Entertainment System: NES Classic Edition systems for this year,” Nintendo said in a statement.

“We encourage anyone interested in obtaining this system to check with retail outlets regarding availability. We understand that it has been difficult for many consumers to find a system, and for that we apologize. We have paid close attention to consumer feedback, and we greatly appreciate the incredible level of consumer interest and support for this product.”

Nintendo has only said, so far, that the NES Classic Edition is being discontinued in North America. When asked whether the discontinuation would be applied globally, a representative from Nintendo said, “Please see the statements made by Nintendo in other territories.”

The NES Classic Edition launched last November, coming preloaded with 30 classic NES games. When asked if these classic games will be made available on the Switch or another system, Nintendo only said “We have nothing to announce at this time.”

  • Top 10 UK Sales Chart: Ghost Recon Wildlands Back On Top

Ghost Recon: Wildlands has returned to the top of the UK physical sales chart for the week ending April 15. The open-world game spent two weeks at No. 1 when it launched in March, but was pushed down to No.2 for the following three weeks by Mass Effect: Andromeda (twice) and Persona 5. Altus’s JRPG drops out of the top 40 altogether this week following a series-best UK launch last week, meanwhile.

In the wake of Ghost Recon’s return to No.1 this week are Lego Worlds at No.2 and Grand Theft Auto V at No.3, while Overwatch jumps six places to No.4.

The week’s only notable new release, Yooka-Laylee, debuts at No.6, meanwhile. Reviews for the Banjo-Kazooie spiritual successor have been mixed, while GameSpot’s Yooka-Laylee review called the game “outdated” in parts. Critic Kallie Plagge did think the game was worthy of the “spiritual successor” title, however.

Ghost Recon: Wildlands also received mixed reviews, though its launch was the year’s strongest so far in terms of sales. It continues to be supported by Ubisoft, with the latest big patch fixing a load of bugs.

You can read the full top 10 sales chart below, via sales monitor Chart-Track. Note this table does not include digital sales data, and so should not be considered representative of all UK game sales.

    1. Ghost Recon: Wildlands

  • Telltale's Guardians Of The Galaxy – Episode 1 Review Roundup

Telltale’s latest series, which focuses on Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy, premieres today, April 18. The first episode is called Tangled Up in Blue, and with its launch virtually here, reviews have started to go live for this introductory episode.

This first chapter–which is coming to PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC, iOS, and Android–costs $5, while Episodes 2-5 will be released over the coming months. Additionally, the game is getting a physical release on May 2 (May 5 outside North America). This will be available for $30 and will include Episode One, giving you free access to the next four episodes as they launch.

You can watch a trailer for Tangled Up in Blue here, or take a look below to see what a selection of critics thought about the episode. GameSpot has a Guardians Of The Galaxy – Episode 1: Tangled Up In Blue review up now, in which critic Kallie Plagge called the episode “a compelling introduction to the series that captures the unique charms of the Guardians.”

    • Game: Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy – The Telltale Series
    • Developer: Telltale Games
    • Platform: PS4, Xbox One, PC, iOS, Android
    • Release: April 18
    • Price: US $5 / £5 / AU $9

    GameSpot — 7/10

“Because of that characterization, though, jokes land more often than not, and even less-important interactions serve to build out the team. That and good voice acting balance out a few rough bits of dialogue (Rocket making a ‘your face’ retort and following it with, ‘That was terrible,’ for example). Quiet, intimate moments between characters are what Telltale does best, and this episode strikes a good balance between Guardians-style snark and conversations with a little more meaning to them.

“The episode sets up an important conflict and serious questions about the galaxy going into Episode 2. Some more game-y elements can take you out of the experience a bit, but this is also a compelling introduction to the series that captures the unique charms of the Guardians–plus, there’s some kickass music.” — Kallie Plagge [Full review]

    IGN — 8.5/10

“Guardians of the Galaxy is definitely starting off on the right foot, with a great script, great actors, and a universe packed with personality (and backed by catchy tunes) to explore. If it can continue to deliver the quality of dialogue and panel-perfect action over the course of the rest of the season, it may find itself seated in the upper echelons of Telltale’s catalog. I just hope that now the series has introduced itself, the series gives its environments and characters just a bit more time to breathe in between speeding the plot along.” — TJ Hafer [Full review]

    PC Gamer — 58/100

“By the end of the first episode Guardians of the Galaxy sets up its overarching plot, which ties into the history of the Kree, with a new big bad and an infinity stone-esque McGuffin. Some Marvel cosmic comic experts may be giddy to see the Kree get more love–and let’s be honest, the film’s villain Ronan the Accuser was pretty forgettable–so I hope the series finds strength in its story as it develops. As it stands, Tangled Up in Blue is a meandering introduction to a cast I already know, leaning on a framework that doesn’t play to their strengths. In about an hour and a half, Guardians of the Galaxy tops out at ‘heh.’” — Wes Fenlon [Full review]

    US Gamer — 3/5

“This is a Telltale style game through and through. If you’re tired of what the studio has done in the past, this won’t change your mind. Batman: The Telltale Series felt like a stronger evolution of the franchise, using the Detective Vision mechanic to solve puzzles and provide more personal combat choices. So far, Guardians of the Galaxy feels like a step back from that series. In fact, Guardians of the Galaxy just adds up to a weaker start than Telltale’s previous comic adaptation. Telltale surprised me with some story decisions here, so I’d like to see where they intend to take the team, but as a first episode it didn’t hit me in the gut and make me excited for the next.” — Mike Williams [Full review]

  • Next Star Wars Spinoff Movie Might Be Announced This Summer

Next Star Wars Spinoff Movie Might Be Announced This Summer

With Rogue One available to watch at home and the Han Solo movie currently in production, there is much speculation about what the third standalone Star Wars spinoff might be. Now Lucasfilm boss Kathleen Kennedy has stated that it could be announced very soon.

    No Caption Provided

Speaking to MTV at this weekend’s Star Wars Celebration, Kennedy wouldn’t commit to a timeline, but did state that they were “very close” to an announcement. “My hope would be sometime around the summer,” she said. “I never want to predict the creative process because it is its own thing, so we’re in the midst of those discussions right now.”

While it is unknown what the next spinoff might focus on, last year it was reported that the studio was close to announcing a Boba Fett movie in 2015. Fantastic Four director Josh Trank was initially hired to helm the film, and a teaser was even intended to be screened at 2015’s Celebration. However, Trank ultimately left the project and no further announcements have been made since.

In the same MTV interview, Kennedy explained that the current storyline of the Star Wars Saga movies will wrap up after Episode IX, which is due in 2019. “There’s no question that this is set up as a trilogy and that three-act structure of the set-up, the conflict, and the resolution very much is what we have planned,” she said.

The first teaser for the next Saga movie, The Last Jedi, was released at Celebration. You can watch it here, or check out this trailer breakdown. The movie hits theaters on December 15, 2017.
