Deadpool Will Feature In X-Force Movie, X-Men Producer Confirms

Deadpool will feature in the X-Force movie. Producer Simon Kinberg has confirmed that the wisecracking mercenary will play a part in the X-Men spinoff, which is currently in development.

In an interview with Deadline, Kinberg spoke the various X-Men titles that are currently in the works. “We are working hard on New Mutants, Gambit with Channing Tatum, Deadpool 2, and the new X-Force movie where Deadpool is alongside Cable and other main characters,” he said.

Although it has been known that Fox are planning an X-Force movie for some time, this is the first confirmation that it will include Deadpool. Star Ryan Reynolds has previously stated that he was keen to do an X-Force movie, saying: “X-Force is really my priority. I really want to get that in.” However, this was before Deadpool became the most successful film in the X-Men franchise, and since then the focus has been on Deadpool 2.

In addition to the X-Force movie, Cable is expected to appear in Deadpool 2, which begins shooting soon. There have been various rumors about who might play the character, with Stranger Things star David Harbour most recently reported to be in the running.

A hilarious first teaser for Deadpool 2 was released last week–check it out here.

Last month it was reported that A-Team director Joe Carnahan had been hired to write the script for the X-Force film. Carnahan also recently completed the script for the Uncharted movie.

X-Force is a superhero team that was conceived by Deadpool’s co-creator Rob Liefeld. They first appeared the 100th issue of Marvel’s X-Men spinoff comic The New Mutants in 1991, and have gone on to include such other heroes as Cyclops, Psylocke, Wolverine, Storm, and Colossus.

  • Xbox One Gets World War I Shooter Verdun Today

Xbox One Gets World War I Shooter Verdun Today

Following its release for PC in 2015 and PlayStation 4 last year, the World War I shooter Verdun arrives today on Xbox One. The Xbox One edition was at one time slated to arrive alongside the PS4 edition, but it was delayed because the team needed more time to build a “true trench warfare experience.”

Verdun claims to be the first “realistic” multiplayer first-person shooter set in World War I. The squad-based game features trench warfare as well as period-accurate weaponry and uniforms. It’s inspired by the infamous Battle of Verdun in 1916 and also features maps based on real battlefields in France and Belgium.

The console versions of Verdun were made by Abstraction Games, which worked on versions of A Boy and His Blob, Hotline Miami 2, and Don’t Starve, among others.

Verdun has been available on Steam since April 2015 where it has a “very positive” user rating. GameSpot’s review scored the shooter a 6/10.

  • Viking-Inspired RPG The Banner Saga 3 Smashes Kickstarter Funding Goal

Viking-Inspired RPG The Banner Saga 3 Smashes Kickstarter Funding Goal

The Banner Saga 3‘s Kickstarter campaign has ended–and it was a huge hit. Developer Stoic Studios was looking to raise $200,000, but ended up with a total of $416,986 from 8,086 backers. This does not cover the game’s entire budget, as Stoic, an independent studio, is investing its own money as well.

Four stretch goals were unlocked, including playable Dredge and the addition of Ubin as a combat character, as well as new modes in the form of Survival and Eternal Arena.

“The support from backers and the community has been amazing, and it’s humbling to know that RTS fans around the world really want to support us,” Stoic cofounder John Watson said in a statement. “The additional funds will be invested into bringing as much of our intended vision to the final game and rewarding our backers’ support with an unforgettable experience to conclude this epic tale.”

As announced previously, The Banner Saga 3 is the third and final game in the viking-themed series. Here is the official description for The Banner Saga 3:

“In Banner Saga 3, players will embark on their final journey beyond the wall of Darkness to traverse the world unlike anything encountered in previous sagas. The beautifully hand drawn Viking role-playing adventure will once again test the player’s resolve through epic tactical battles against deadly adversaries where a player’s choice directly affects their personal journey. The lives of your clansmen and their families have never been more significant than in the final act of the series.”

The Banner Saga 3 is tentatively scheduled to come out for PC in December 2018.

  • Nintendo Wins "Groundbreaking" Mod Chip Court Case

Nintendo has won what it describes as a “groundbreaking copyright case” against a large-scale seller of mod chips, flash carts, and game copiers like Sky3DS and Gateway 3DS.

The Japanese publisher was awarded around US $9.5 million by a Canadian federal court, reaffirming that the distribution of these “circumvention” devices is illegal.

The defendant, Jeramie King, ran a business called Go Cyber Shopping, which sold “large quantities” of the devices, Nintendo said in a press release. The chips allow users to illegally download Nintendo games, violating the company’s copyrights.

As part of the verdict, King will be forced to issue an apology on his website.

“Nintendo has an established track record that demonstrates our resolve to protect our iconic characters and franchises,” said Devon Pritchard, Nintendo of America’s senior vice president of business affairs. “We will continue to protect the creative works of our developers and vigorously enforce our intellectual property rights against those that attempt to steal or misuse them.”

Nintendo has been very protective of its property in the past. The company won a similar case to this one in Australia back in 2010, while a number of fan-made games–such as Pokemon Uranium, Pokemon Prism, and and a Metroid II remake called Project AM2R–have been met with severe opposition by the publisher.

  • Nintendo Switch Is Nintendo's Fast-Selling Console Ever In The Americas

The Nintendo Switch is off to a hot start, it seems. Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime told The New York Times reporter Nick Wingfield this week that initial sales (for March 3 and 4) in the Americas exceeded the first two-day sales in the region for any system in the company’s history.

The next closest was the Wii, which ended up being a massive hit, selling more than 100 million systems worldwide to date.

Fils-Aime added that The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is the best-selling standalone launch title for a Nintendo platform ever. He did not share a specific unit sales number, though it outperformed Super Mario 64 for the Nintendo 64.

Wii Sports for the Wii surely did better than Super Mario 64 or Breath of the Wild, as it was bundled with console, but this statistic is for non-bundled titles. The Switch has no bundled games.

Nintendo has made a big effort to push the Switch, as it aired a commercial for the console during this year’s Super Bowl and even recruited John Cena to promote it.

Below are the tweets from Wingfield, the NYT reporter. Keep checking back with GameSpot for the latest on how the Switch is performing.

  • Mass Effect: Andromeda Getting Free Multiplayer DLC Maps

Mass Effect: Andromeda Getting Free Multiplayer DLC Maps

BioWare continues to tease Mass Effect: Andromeda‘s multiplayer mode. After sharing new images and details about the mode in recent days, the developer has now confirmed there will be DLC maps.

As spotted by IGN, studio GM Aaryn Flynn confirmed this on Twitter and said the maps will be free, just like Mass Effect 3. That game received five multiplayer expansions, containing new maps, characters, and equipment, all of which were free. Also similar to Mass Effect 3, Andromeda will have loot boxes that players can unlock through gameplay or by spending real money.

    No Caption Provided

Free multiplayer DLC for Andromeda was hinted at earlier this year when BioWare confirmed that the game would not have a DLC Pass like many other Electronic Arts-published games.

BioWare had planned to let a group of people play Andromeda’s multiplayer mode through a beta, but those plans were scrapped. However, people who attend PAX East can play the mode this week.

Andromeda launches on March 21 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. A free trial for the game will be available through the EA/Origin Access programs on Xbox One and PC starting on March 16. This 10-hour trial lets players test multiplayer and single-player, though the campaign component is locked to a set number of missions.

In other news, a new trailer was released this week that shows off Andromeda’s Golden Worlds–watch it here.

  • Horizon Zero Dawn Patch 1.03 Out Now, Here's What It Does

Horizon Zero Dawn‘s latest patch is out now, bringing with it a bunch of crash fixes, says publisher Sony.

Update 1.03, which apparently weighs in at 228 MB, introduces “multiple crash and progression fixes,” according to Wccftech. The patch should download automatically if your PlayStation 4 is connected to the internet. Some users have been experiencing numerous bugs and performance issues since the game’s release on February 28. A few players have even reported that the game crashes during the opening cutscene.

In response, developer Guerrilla Games said, “We are aware that a small number of users are suffering a crash during cinematic sequences when playing Horizon: Zero Dawn, most notably in the opening cinematic. We are investigating the issue with the highest priority.”

Horizon Zero Dawn is out now on PS4. The game has gone down well with critics, and was awarded a 9/10 score from GameSpot.

In our verdict, critic Peter Brown called the title “one of the best open-world games of this generation, and redefined its team’s reputation in the process.” Read more in our full Horizon Zero Dawn review.

A positive reception helped Zero Dawn to the top of the UK sales chart last week, beating off competition from The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild.
