  • DC's Suicide Squad 2 Could Start Shooting Next Year, Star Says

DC's Suicide Squad 2 Could Start Shooting Next Year, Star Says

It may not have been a critical hit, but DC’s Suicide Squad was still one of the biggest box office smashes of 2016. Now Joel Kinnaman, who played Rick Flag in the supervillain team-up, has spoken about plans for the sequel.

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Kinnaman revealed that the movie could go into production next year. “As far as I know they’re writing the script and I think the plan is to shoot it sometime in 2018, but that could change,” he said. “I think I’ll definitely come back for it.”

Kinnaman was also asked about potential directors for Suicide Squad 2. David Ayer directed the first movie, but he is now attached to the spinoff Gotham City Sirens.

“Ultimately, I’d love for David Ayer to direct it,” he said. “But if he doesn’t want to direct it then someone who is great with character and that’s able to ground the story and maybe put these characters in a more normal situation. It would be really interesting to see these crazy characters interact with regular people as well.”

In related news, DC is also planning a Wonder Woman sequel. The first movie opened last weekend to record-breaking numbers, and director Patty Jenkins has confirmed that she will return to helm Wonder Woman 2.

“The story will take place in the US,” she revealed. “She’s Wonder Woman. She’s got to come to America. It’s time.”

“It’s a beautiful story to tell, [and it’s] an important time to tell it with people that I love.”

  • Horizon: Zero Dawn Passes 3.4M Copies Sold, PS4 Pro Sales Discussed

Killzone developer Guerrilla Games’ new action-adventure game Horizon: Zero Dawn has crossed a new sales milestone. PlayStation boss Shawn Layden said in a new interview that the game has passed 3.4 million copies sold, up from 2.6 million units sold in its first two weeks.

“We’ve been so proud of what that studio has been able to do,” Ryan told Glixel. “It’s a brave step for that studio to go from making shooters like Killzone to an open-world game.”

Given the big success of Zero Dawn, it’s no surprise that the developer is supporting the game with a new story expansion. It’s possible Sony will discuss or show this off at E3, though that is not confirmed at this stage.

Additionally, Sony confirmed that nearly 3.4 million copies sold, 915,000 were digital.

“This kind of shift changes everything. It changes the publishing model, it allows smaller players to put out games, it affects DLC and it has a huge impact,” PlayStation boss Shawn Layden said.

Also in the interview, Sony discussed PS4 Pro sales. While a unit figure was not disclosed, Sony said around 40 percent of PS4 Pro sales are from people upgrading from the standard PS4.

“People just want the best,” PlayStation Europe boss Jim Ryan said. “Maybe they just want to future proof? I think we see the same thing from Apple customers too–there are people that want the best that you can buy.”

You can read the full interview here at Glixel.

Keep checking back with GameSpot for the latest on Sony, as E3 2017 is right around the corner and there is sure to be a lot of big news coming.

  • Gold Edition PS4 Slim Apparently Confirmed, Coming Soon

Following a leak last week, the gold edition PlayStation 4 Slim model has now been confirmed, it seems. Twitter user Wario64 has somehow gotten a hold of the Target weekly ad for the week of June 11, which clearly shows the unannounced console; it’s described as a “limited” model.

The console is priced at $250, according to the ad, and will launch the week of June 11.

    — Wario64 (@Wario64) June 5, 2017

As of yet, the new gold model PS4 Slim is not confirmed, and Sony has not weighed in on the rumours. This is not the first time Target has leaked some big PlayStation news, as the store also let slip that the PS4 was dropping in price back in 2015.

According to NeoGAF, Target will have a number of gaming deals for the week of June 11 as well, including Horizon: Zero Dawn and Mass Effect: Andromeda for $40 each. Battlefield 1, Grand Theft Auto V, and NBA 2K17 are reportedly being discounted to $30 each that week.

Keep checking back with GameSpot for more as it’s announced.

Currently, the PS4 Slim is available in matte black and glacier white, though in the US the latter is only available through a Walmart-exclusive Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare bundle. Sony previously offered a limited run of gold-colored original PS4s in the US, exclusively through a competition with fast food chain Taco Bell.

Internationally, Wonder Woman brought in $122.5 million for the weekend, boosting its global haul to $223 million after just one weekend.

  • Destiny 1 Not Getting More Gameplay Changes

With Destiny 2 on the horizon, Bungie has revealed that it does not plan to release any more gameplay balance changes for the first game.

In its latest weekly blog post, Bungie reiterated that the Age of Triumph update for Destiny 1 is the game’s final update. “In our constant watch over the community, we’ve heard many of you asking if the current sandbox will get another design pass. Our sole focus at this time is Destiny 2,” Bungie said.

The developer went on to say that “all hands” at Bungie are now “committed to making Destiny 2 the sequel that this community deserves.”

When Destiny 2 comes out in September, fans can expect an “entirely new cycle of updates,” though the developer did not share any specifics.

“Our hope is that you’ll sense what all your feedback has meant to us when you get your chance to play Destiny 2, wherever or whenever that happens,” Bungie said. “As always, we thank you for playing, and for giving the feedback that helps us to make better games.”

Although gameplay and balance updates are ending for Destiny 1, fans can be assured that Bungie will continue to offer support services for the game, even after Destiny 2 comes out.

Destiny 2 launches in September for Xbox One, PS4, and PC. Bungie is expected to announce more details on the game at E3 coming up next week.
