  • Assassin's Creed Odyssey: Legacy of the First Blade DLC Focuses on a Key Assassin

Assassin’s Creed Odyssey’s first major story-driven DLC, Legacy of the First Blade, has received a launch trailer, showing off a highly-important assassin.

With Episode 1: Hunted releasing on December 4, Legacy of the First Blade follows the first assassin to wield a hidden blade: Darius I, son of Xerxes I. Though Darius had long passed since the events of Assassin’s Creed 2, Ezio went on to explore a tomb dedicated to Darius. Though the real-world history on the matter is uncertain, many believe that Darius committed patricide and murdered Xerxes.

The DLC will be divided into three episodes, with the first focusing on Kassandra or Alexios meeting Darius. A new Persian enemy group appears in the trailer: they are seen pillaging villages, wearing black masks and are hunting the “tainted ones,” which includes the player character.

  • Fortnite Has Invaded the Modern American Classroom Like No Other Game

Kids have been bringing video games and other distractions into schools for decades. For me, it was my Game Boy. But everything from the ‘90s surge of Tamagotchi to Magic the Gathering and Pokémon cards has had their moment in the spotlight in middle schools and high schools alike. Kids in high school these days, however, have grown up with games on smartphones, and those games follow them into class in ways my Game Boy never could have.

Fortnite is huge in a way few games have been, and its audience talks about it and plays it in a way that’s different from almost any other game community. You can carry Fortnite – along with your profile and all your records and purchased content – with you just about anywhere you can go. That includes the classroom.

  • An Introduction to Tactical Combat Evolved in Mutant Year Zero: Road to Eden

An Introduction to Tactical Combat Evolved in Mutant Year Zero: Road to Eden

Mutant Year Zero: Road to Eden is a tactical adventure game launching December 4 on Xbox One. What’s “tactical adventure,” you ask? Imagine a game combining the tactical, turn-based combat of XCOM with real-time stealth and exploration of a detailed, post-human world.

Here you play as a team of mutants in a world destroyed by nuclear war, pandemics, and climate change. You explore the world in real-time and search through the ruined landscape for scraps and resources which can help your settlement, but when you face enemies the game seamlessly switches to tactical turn-based mode. The game and story are based on the Swedish pen-and-paper RPG Mutant Year Zero.

Attacking the enemy head-on, like you can do in most turn-based tactical games, will not work well for you in Mutant Year Zero: Road to Eden. Stealth and planning are the keys to mastering the game.

Because the world is filled with dangerous creatures, a frontal assault can quickly lead to your team getting slaughtered. Instead, you must sneak up on the enemy, take out isolated targets silently to thin out their group, and then set up a deadly ambush to defeat the rest.

You sneak around the enemy in real-time and then spring your lethal and well planned out trap at the right time and place, which starts the turn-based combat.

A very good tactic is to have some ambushing mutants placed in both good cover and in an elevated position, so they can shoot down on the enemy and increase their hit chances. Another crucial element is being able to take out key enemies quickly, like for example those who can summon reinforcements or knock down your own teammates. Choose the right abilities for your team (which you get through choosing mutations), so you can control the battlefield and keep the fight on your terms.

Mutant Year Zero: Road to Eden is all about planning your moves carefully. If you underestimate your enemy, you can quickly be overrun and see your team of mutants go down one after the other.

However, if you have utilized the tools of the game, like the stealth, the terrain, your mutations, and your gear, you will rain down critical hits plus timely roots and stuns, as the enemy tries to storm your well-defended position.

Your greatest challenge in the game may be to unlearn some of the lessons from other turn-based tactical games because if you don’t adapt and learn to evolve your tactics, your team of mutants will not last long in the merciless wasteland of our destroyed world.

We’ll have more to share about Mutant Year Zero: Road to Eden here on Xbox Wire in the near future.

Press Space to Invade – X-Morph: Defense Supports Keyboard and Mouse on Xbox One

    Hello, Xbox fans!

Over the course of this year, we have released multiple expansions to X-Morph: Defense. The storyline has reached its conclusion, but we have not stopped working on the game. As of today, we are excited to announce that X-Morph: Defense now officially supports keyboard and mouse input on Xbox One.

One of the challenges the developers have to face is designing a control scheme that will be both convenient and functional. There are many things to take into account, including the genre. There is no denying that some of them seem more suited for K&M than others. Strategy is one of those genres, and since X-Morph: Defense has a lot of strategy elements to it, we were happy to give our players an alternative control scheme.

Since the game was developed for PC, as well as Xbox One, we already had the controls ready. We only needed to work out the technicalities. Now, with just a click of a button on the desired controller, the game automatically recognizes which input device it has to use. This way, you can switch between the control schemes on the go, as you see fit.

An additional perk of using the keyboard and mouse combo is the unlocked crosshair. You can freely aim all over the screen and even bombard your enemies from across the screen, as long as there’s nothing in the way. You also do not have to move your ship to place additional defense towers, which results in greater flexibility.

With that being said, we do not plan to introduce separate leaderboards for the gamepad users and the mice users. Our implementation allows players to seamlessly switch between these input types at any moment without any restrictions. Furthermore, while playing in co-op mode one player can use K&M while the other one plays on a gamepad. Separating gameplay results based on input type would require us to lock down the selected controller type for the duration of a gameplay session, sowe think that restricting players for this specific game and experience is not the way to go. Both of these groups have coexisted on our PC leaderboards peacefully since the release of X-Morph: Defense, so we’ve decided against separating them.

We hope this update will enable you to enjoy our game in a new way. Perhaps you’ll finally beat your highest scores, or discover new strategies? The leaderboards are yours to take over.
