  • WWE 2K21 Is Not Happening

    WWE 2K21 Is Not Happening

During an investor call on yesterday, the WWE confirmed that this year’s installment of 2K Games’ WWE 2K franchise is not happening.

Taking a year off might be a good thing; WWE 2K20 (pictured above) had various technical issues that left many fans disappointed. This also came after 2K Games split with longtime developer Yuke’s, handing the series entirely over to Visual Concepts. No one factor alone is likely to be the sole reason for pressing pause, but the extra time should give 2K Games the opportunity to assess its priorities with the franchise.

However, the absence of the WWE 2K name doesn’t necessarily mean wrestling fans won’t be getting any new games at all. A tweet from the WWE 2K account promises more details and “exciting news” next week.

To get a wrestling fix in the meantime, you can watch a few current and former Game Informer editors play WWF No Mercy on this episode of Replay.

  • Animal Crossing Appears To Have Nerfed Tarantula And Scorpion Spawn Rates

Data mine of recent update reveals all.

Earlier this week, Nintendo rolled out Version 1.2.0 of Animal Crossing: New Horizons. It added Leif, Redd, new seasonal events, and the ‘Bank of Nook‘ even lowered the interest rate for all savings accounts. These weren’t the only significant changes, though.

  • Review: Billion Road – Like Pokémon Meets Monopoly, But Not As Cool As It Sounds

Does it deserve to Monopolise your time?

In a world where Switch owners already have access to both a serviceable version of Monopoly and Pokémon Sword and Shield, do we really need a game that combines the two? For most people, the answer is “probably not”. But that’s got nothing to do with Billion Road’s concept, and everything to do with its execution.

Just like the beloved/loathed Hasbro capitalist fantasy game mentioned above, Billion Road has you taking it in turns with up to three friends or AI bots to trot around a board-shaped approximation of a real-world location (here a cartoony take on Japan), buying up properties, racing to goal squares, swearing at the people you love, and cursing the God of Luck. Pretty much in that order.

  • Soapbox: Why the Harry Potter RPG Is My Most Anticipated PS5 Game

    Spellbound.

The fact that we’ve reached 2020 without a genuine Harry Potter RPG on consoles is as dumbfounding as Hermione Granger marrying Ron Weasley. J.K. Rowling’s iconic wizarding world has been a huge part of popular culture for over two decades now, but outside of a couple turn-based titles for the Game Boy Color, we’re yet to receive the Hogwarts simulator that an entire generation’s been waiting for.

That will change soon, I hope, as whispers of a Harry Potter RPG have been swirling for several years now – in fact, a concept trailer even leaked online in late 2018. From what we know, the title is in development at Avalanche Software, and is set during the 1800s. A blurb which accompanied the early footage stated that you’ll “embark on a journey through both familiar and never before seen locations” as strange events brew in the Forbidden Forest.

  • PS5 Is the Lead Platform for Next-Gen Horror Game Quantum Error

PS4 version to be developed later.

Quantum Error is one of PlayStation 5’s first confirmed games. The horror title from TeamKill Media will apparently play “like Dead Space in first person”, and is likely to arrive early in the next-gen machine’s life. However, did you know it’s also billed for a PS4 release?

It might be a cross-gen game, but the developer has told GamingBolt that PS5 has its full attention, first and foremost. “At the moment our focus is primarily on the PS5, so at first everything is going to be calibrated for that platform and we won’t do most of the optimizing for the PS4 until we are close to being finished,” the studio says. In other words, the game is being built with PS5 in mind, while the PS4 port will come much later in development.
