  • Valve Addressed Fan Complaints Before The Artifact Beta Launched

The beta for Valve’s new Dota 2-inspired card game Artifact went up yesterday, and before it launched, many players weren’t happy with all that was being offered. In a blog post, Valve addressed some of these complaints and said that more features will be arriving before the game’s official launch.

Responding to three major complaints, Valve said they would add an option for players to draft with friends and a casual draft mode before the beta’s launch. Initially there was no option to draft with friends, nor practice draft modes without spending an event ticket. The third complaint Valve addressed was players’ inability to recycle duplicate cards. In response, Valve said they’d implement a new system where players could recycle cards for event tickets.

Valve implemented the first two changes before the beta’s launch. The new recycling system is set to be implemented over the next week and half, along with further improvements.

The beta opened up yesterday for all players who redeemed a beta key or attended this year’s Dota 2 International. Artifact launches officially on November 28.

  • Announcing HCS Grassroots – The Next Chapter of Halo Esports

This weekend, DreamHack Atlanta saw the world’s best Halo 5: Guardians players and Halo legends come together for the Halo Championship Series 2018 Finals. The resulting action was a worthy community celebration, sending Halo 5: Guardians esports into the sunset in dramatic fashion.

During the tournament, we were delighted to announce the next chapter of Halo esports: HCS Grassroots. Designed to help the community directly, this new initiative will assist tournament operators and content creators to continue to do what they love while introducing all-new opportunities for growth. Halo wouldn’t be what it is today without a rich history of community contribution, and we’re excited to continue fostering this spirit moving forward.

HCS Grassroots is a partnership program where tournament organizers big and small, along with content creators, can apply for support from 343 Industries for the facilitation and promotion of their esports activities. For example, tournament organizers can receive assistance in the form of prize pool contributions, loaner consoles, social media promotion and sponsor acquisition support, while content creators can receive social media promotion, hosting opportunities on broadcast channels, graphics and content. Our goal is for these offerings to evolve over time alongside the support of our community and partners. Head to Halo.gg/Grassroots to apply, and for a full breakdown of the program check out Halo Waypoint.

Our goal with HCS Grassroots is to give back to the community through the fostering and support of Halo’s diverse competitive community. We want to support all flavors of competitive multiplayer, from whether its Halo 5: Guardians or our first LAN event of the program – The Halo Classic, featuring Halo 3 from Halo: The Master Chief Collection. Whether you are brand new to Halo esports or have been part of the competitive scene since Halo: Combat Evolved, HCS Grassroots is here to grow your community. We’re thrilled to begin the next chapter of competitive Halo, and can’t wait to experience the action alongside you.

For all the latest on the Halo Championship Series, keep it locked to Halo.gg and follow @HCS and @Halo on Twitter. For everything Halo, stay tuned to Halo Waypoint and Xbox Wire.

  • Review: Fallout 76 – A Shockingly Bad Attempt at Multiplayer Survival

    Nuclear hazard.

Fallout 76 will be remembered as a defining moment for Bethesda Game Studios, and not in a good way. This entirely multiplayer take on the Fallout franchise is a technical failure stuffed to bursting point with bugs and performance issues. The real kicker, though, is that even without all of its glitches and frame rate problems, Fallout 76 would still feel like a janky, hollow cash in that fails to justify its existence on almost every level.

The core of Fallout 76 is taken from Fallout 4 – an open world title that we rather liked. Although Fallout 4’s role-playing elements were disappointingly dialled back, its gameplay loop of exploring, shooting mutants, looting, completing quests, scavenging for resources, levelling up, and crafting was well done and addictive. This same gameplay loop is present in Fallout 76, but it’s placed in an open world that, in 2018, is woefully outdated both visually and mechanically.

  • Review: Hitman 2 – More Darkly Amusing Murder

Hit me baby one more time.

Poor Sierra Knox. She lived her life as a successful racing car driver, and along with her father was a powerful figure within Kronstadt Industries, a tech firm making waves in the robotics field. She had it all: fame, money, power, and a name that made her sound a bit like a baddie from a Bond film. It’s everything a girl could ask for. And then out of nowhere an assassin dressed like a pink flamingo kicked her down an open trap door to her death. The ignominy of it all. Kicked down a trap door by a pink flamingo. He got away with it, too. “An accident,” they called it. Nobody ever suspects the pink flamingo.

In a game that takes itself seriously, an amnesiac killer hunting down members of a cabal secretly pulling the strings on world politics from behind the scenes would be even more eye-roll inducing than the last season of Prison Break. Rather than settling for being a po-faced techno thriller, Hitman 2 – mercifully – knows exactly how ludicrous it is, embraces the absurdity, and at times, goes full tilt into black comedy territory. Murder has rarely been this amusing.

  • Lack of Subtitles in Spyro: Reignited Trilogy Is a Result of 'No Industry Standard'

    Activision fuels the fire.

Spyro: Reignited Trilogy is out now, and it’s a gorgeous remake of the beloved PSone platformers. While many are enjoying their time with Spyro and Sparx, some are left flabbergasted by the apparent lack of subtitles across the three games. Some minor characters in the games have them, but the main cutscenes don’t, leaving those with hearing disabilities out in the cold.

Gaming blog Gamepitt reached out to Activision regarding the omission, and received a short statement on the matter. Here’s what the publisher had to say:
