  • Take Your Sims on a Vacation in Outdoor Retreat and Jungle Adventure Expansions

Take Your Sims on a Vacation in Outdoor Retreat and Jungle Adventure Expansions

Your Sims – they’re just like us. They pay bills, work long hours, take care of their families, and take out the trash. And, especially at this time of year, they could really use a vacation. Luckily, The Sims 4 Outdoor Retreat and The Sims 4 Jungle Adventure arrive on Xbox One today! Below are some foolproof ways to help your Sims relax with each new pack.

    Outdoor Retreat
Granite Falls is home to some lovely vacation rental homes. But if your Sims are ready for the great outdoors, they can set up camp near a waterfall! Ahh, the soothing sounds of naturally (digitally) occurring beauty.

One of the perks of this pack is gazing at the stars. Whether with friends or on a date, this is an awesome way to enjoy nature at its finest. But, really, what about napping under the stars? That’s an even better way to unwind.

    The Sims 4 Expansion

    The Sims 4 Expansion

Another way to light up the night is by building a campfire and having some bonding time with other Sims. They can grab something from the cooler, kick back, and tell stories around the embers. There is one thing to remember, though. Telling a ghost story after 7 p.m. (in-game time) could bring an actual ghost to your Sims’ gathering. Not exactly a great way to chill.

Going on vacation often means feeling warm and fuzzy while making memories. And what better way to do that than dress up in a bear costume? Exactly. A literal way to be warm and fuzzy with loved ones. Wow, your Sims are so clever!

    Jungle Adventure
Selvadorada is one of The Sims 4’s most inspiring worlds. But, it’s not just the rainforest that makes it unique. It’s also the local flavor. When Sims are vacationing here, they’ll love meeting Selvadoradians and getting to know the culture (and secrets of the jungle).

    The Sims 4 Expansion

Once they’ve made some new friends, it’s time to bust a move! Local flavor also means different dance steps. If, by the end of the night, your Sims aren’t having a ball at the cantina, what can we say? It’s probably time for a good, old-fashioned bubble bath.

When Sims are out on their tropical excursion, they’ll likely stumble upon a lush lagoon. How refreshing! Your Sims will make some awesome memories here, and it’s a great way to appreciate the tropical terrain. So, go ahead, take a dip to relieve your Sims of some pesky insect attacks.

Speaking of which, this may not sound like something to help Sims relax but think of this as some much-needed preparation. When loading up on supplies at the cantina, it is necessary – nay, imperative – that your Sims buy as much insect repellent as they can carry. Without it, they’ll be anything but blissed out. Those tropical bugs are no joke, people!

So, how will your Sims unwind? The Sims 4 Outdoor Retreat and The Sims 4 Jungle Adventure are available now on the Microsoft Store.

It’s crucial you buy a PS4 camera along with your VR headset, otherwise, it will not work. Don’t pay more than the standard £40/$60 for the camera though.  Sony released an updated, rounder (see image above) model with a built-in TV-mount and there are deals included in the chart below, usually priced around £40-£45, which isn’t bad considering the new clip. The older PS4 camera is also compatible with PlayStation VR. If there’s nothing tempting below, maybe try for a new/preowned unit via eBay?

The PlayStation Move motion controllers are very much an optional purchase as not every game supports them. Many that do, also have options to use the standard DualShock 4 PS4 controller instead.

Move wands aren’t as readily available as the cameras at the moment, but there are deals to be found if you shop around -or let us do it via that magical box below. some of the more expensive results are actually for twin packs. We’d advise a little caution if you’re considering preowned units, as the lack of use in recent years may have dulled the charge capacity of the battery compared to new controllers. If you want to try your luck (and probably save a fair amount), here are some handy links for eBay.

  • Steam Link app for Raspberry Pi lets you make your own streaming box

Just a short while ago, Valve discontinued its Steam Link – the little box that lets you stream games from a PC to the TV in your living room – and for those who lament the demise of the device, the good news is you can now make your own with a Raspberry Pi.

That’s because Valve has released the Steam Link app for the Raspberry Pi 3 and Raspberry Pi 3 B+ models running the Raspbian Stretch operating system, albeit only in beta at this point.

You can find instructions on how to install and fire up the app on your Pi in Valve’s announcement post right here.

    Work in progress

Initial feedback seems fairly positive, with one gamer observing that the Pi works pretty well as a replacement device, although (anecdotally) there is possibly a little extra lag (in the order of 5ms or so) compared to using the Steam Link. And that would make sense, plus you have to bear in mind that this is still beta software, so it will continue to be polished and honed.

It’s great to see Valve make such a move, and give Raspberry Pi owning folks options on this front. Although if you’re unsure about the aforementioned instructions – or you’re running into problems during installation of the app, as seems to have happened to the odd user in Valve’s forum post – then fret not, because we’ve got a full tutorial in the works on making your Raspberry Pi a Steam Link.

This will explain everything in easy to follow steps, so keep your eyes peeled for that one, because it’ll be with you soon enough.

  • Epic Games to take on Steam with its own digital games store

Epic Games to take on Steam with its own digital games store

Epic Games is on top of the world right now thanks to the phenomenal success of its game Fortnite, but the company has even bigger plans for 2019, announcing that it intends to launch a new digital games store to compete with the likes of Steam and GOG

The Epic Games Store won’t just be selling games built using the company’s popular Unreal Engine, with Epic indicating that even titles made in competing engines, such as Unity, will be available.

Speaking to GamesIndustry.biz, Epic Games CEO Tim Sweeney spoke of a larger 88% revenue share for developers, compared to the recently revised 70/30 split that’s offered by Valve’s Steam platform.

“In our analysis, stores charging 30% are marking up their costs by 300% to 400%,” said Sweeney. “But with developers receiving 88% of revenue and Epic receiving 12%, this store will be a profitable business for us.”

An infographic shared by Epic Games highlights the difference in revenue split between its upcoming store and Steam

In an attempt to make its store a more attractive proposition for developers and content creators, Epic will also implement a ‘Support-A-Creator program’ that aims to bring influencers and marketers together.

“Previously, most creators were not compensated by game developers for their work and instead had to rely on donations,” explained Sweeney. “By matchmaking creators with developers, the Epic Games Store makes it easier for players to discover games, and rewards content creators for their efforts.”

Speaking to MCV, Sweeney said, “We believe that creators, both games developers and content creators, are responsible for the game industry’s enormous growth and vibrance, and should earn the lion’s share of industry revenue.”

As for what the Epic Games Store will do to lure over consumers, the Fortnite-creator says it will offer a free game every two weeks throughout the entirety of 2019, and that Epic itself will be funding these fortnight-long free periods.

    No time for talk

Unlike Steam, the Epic Games Store will not host any kind of community forums, instead opting to reach customers through a news feed. However, there are plans for a community reviews feature to be implemented in the future.

“We intend to add tools for players to communicate with developers privately, such as a ticketing system for bug reports and questions, to mitigate toxicity resulting from reviews being the only native communication mechanism,” Sweeney told GamesIndustry.biz

“Users have generally migrated to Reddit, Discord, Twitter, Facebook groups, and other social media,” said Sweeney, further stating that, “Developers are free to run their own forums and social media and link to them from their Epic Games Store pages.”

As for when the Epic Games Store will be open to the public, full details are expected to be announced at the Game Awards this Thursday.

    Here we go again.

When Nintendo’s Reggie Fils-Aimé was spotted in September wearing a Metroid t-shirt alongside Geoff Keighley, rumours began to circulate that a special announcement would be made at The Game Awards. We’re now days out from the annual event held in Los Angeles, so what can we expect?
