What is Hellfront: Honeymoon and How to be Really, Really Good at It

Now that Hellfront: Honeymoon has launched on Xbox One, it’s time to ask yourself: What is it, and more importantly, how do you get better at it than your friends? No worries! The developers of SkyGoblin are here to help answer these profoundly important questions!

    Hellfront: Honeymoon

    Hellfront: Honeymoon

Theo here! I’m one of the three folks at SkyGoblin who designed and produced Hellfront: Honeymoon. The picture above is from a few weeks ago when we hosted a live Hellfront tournament at DreamHack Winter to really put the game to the test. The event was great, but I was crazy nervous trying to pretend to be some kind of wrestling announcer. We had a great time though and the game really excels in a social environment, like a pub, event or in a couch at someone’s house. Let me run you through it!

Hellfront is a strategy game as much as it is a top-down shooter. But more than anything else, it’s fun to play with friends! The matches are short and intense, everything fits into one screen – so it’s easy to watch and it’s truly a game that’s easy to learn but difficult to master.

    Welcome to the Hellfront

    • The object of the game is to wipe your opponents off the map. As long as they have buildings standing, they will respawn.
    • There are two kinds of constructions, turrets, and barracks, which can only be built on top of so-called honeypots. With no economy in the game, constructing buildings is completely free.
    • Turrets are short-term investments, and best used at the front, or even better, inside the enemy’s base.
    • Barracks are long-term investments. With time they will spawn troops that you can bring into combat. Only build barracks in safe areas!
    • When a building is destroyed, bugs will swarm out from the ruins, causing plenty of chaos before the honeypot yet again is revealed.

Tactics for Deathmatch (1 – 4 Player Vs.)

What could possibly be a more fun way to spend an evening than gathering your friends on a couch and completely annihilating them? Here are some core tactics that will ensure your domination of the evening!

    • The first rule of playing Deathmatch is EXPAND. If you see a free honeypot, you better take it, or your opponent will and you will die. Map control is the key to victory.
    • Look for openings. If there are unguarded enemy barracks in your vicinity. Blow it up and replace it with a construction of your own!
    • Think a step ahead. What you decide to build on a honeypot is dependent on the surrounding geography and availability of other honeypots in the region.

    Hellfront: Honeymoon

    Tactics for Missions (1 – 2 Player Co-Op)

When we play against the AI in Hellfront, it’s called playing Missions. There are 75 missions spread out across three worlds, and they can be played solo, or co-op. When playing Missions your main goal is to wipe the AI off the map, but also to score a good time. So if you want a place on the leaderboards, not only have you gotta kill off the AI, you gotta do it fast!

    • When playing missions it’s a lot about iterating on your strategy. Attempt ballsy moves, more than naught you’ll find that they are rewarded!
    • As a general rule, the AI will try to go after your buildings and troops, and not necessarily go after you, so building on every single available honeypot isn’t always the best tactic in Missions.
    • Firing at bugs or enemy troops isn’t always a good idea. If you hurt them you’ll draw their attention. On some maps it is better to just sneak by unnoticed so you can hit them where they don’t expect it.

  • MediEvil Music Composers Returning for PS4 Remake

    Getting the band back together.

Back in October, when Sony revealed the first proper trailer for MediEvil on PS4, Shawn Layden spoke about bringing back some old faces to lend their talents to the project. We know that the man behind Sir Dan’s voice is back on board for the remake, but he’s certainly not alone.

As you can see, Andrew Barnabas and Paul Arnold have announced their involvement in the resurrected action game. The pair, known collectively as Bob & Barn, were the original composers on the PSone fan favourite, and they’re back to make the music for the PS4 rendition. We’d expect the soundtrack to be pretty faithful, in this case, but with decades of experience under their belts, it should all sound great.

  • No, Sony's Holiday Theme Probably Isn't Teasing PS5

    High five.

Remember that awesome holiday theme Sony sent out to select PlayStation Network members for Christmas? Well, a handful of people believe it includes a secret PlayStation 5 tease. Crazy? You bet, but the theory is at least somewhat sound.

Over on social media, members noticed that the letter used for the ‘S’ in ‘Happy Holidays’ is different to the one in ‘PlayStation’ – in fact, the latter is actually spelled out with a ‘5’. Oh my god, next generation, here we come!

  • Japanese Sales Charts: God Eater 3 and Judgment Chart, PS4 Hardware Strong

    Objection.

As expected, the Nintendo Switch and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate are ruling Japan right now – but the PlayStation 4 has had a couple of good weeks now, securing another 80k or so sales in the region over the past week. The platform was buoyed by the releases of God Eater 3 and Judgment, both of which opened to sales in the region of 150k.

  • Quantic Dream's Best Game Detroit: Become Human Just £13.99

    Join the revolution.

Detroit: Become Human may not have generated quite the same amount of hype as God of War and Marvel’s Spider-Man, but it’s absolutely played a part in a great spread of smash hit exclusives for Sony this year. And if you’ve been on the fence about the sci-fi story game, you can take a chance on the title for little more than a tenner, as the title’s on sale at Amazon UK right now:

  • November 2018 NPD: PS4 Best Seller As All Systems Shine

    A bumper month.

The story of 2018 has by and large been that all major systems have performed well, and that continued in November with stat-tracking firm the NPD Group reporting that all three primary platforms exceeded sales of 1.3 million units for the month. As was expected, the PlayStation 4 was the best-seller in terms of unit sales, buoyed by the $199.99 Marvel’s Spider-Man bundle that ran during Black Friday. The Nintendo Switch generated more revenue, but was obviously sold at a higher price point.

It means that in its fifth year on the market, the PS4 is currently the best-selling console of the year in the United States, though without any deals in December there’s a good chance that it may still get pipped at the post by the second year Switch. When you consider how well Nintendo’s hybrid is doing overall, though, it’s a sign of just how healthy the industry is that Sony’s console is remaining very competitive this late in its lifecycle. And the Xbox One isn’t exactly dragging its heels these days anymore either.

  • 10 Things You Didn’t Know About Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice

10 Things You Didn’t Know About Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice

Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice is the journey of a broken Celtic warrior on a vision quest to save the soul of her dead lover from Viking Hell. Hellblade was developed and published independently by a small team with a limited budget. As such, our developers had to adopt a more creative approach to problem-solving and making Hellblade how the way we envisioned it.

    1. The award-winning actor who plays Senua in Hellblade wasn’t originally an actor at all. She was Ninja Theory’s Video Editor who was used as a stand-in for technical tests. In her first ever acting role, Melina Juergens went on to win a BAFTA for Best Performance!
    2. Senua’s guide in Hellblade is an old scholar called Druth. The skull he wears on his head was a real animal skull found by Creative Director Tameem Antoniades when walking his dog.

    1. When Senua hears a chorus of voices in the Sea of Corpses area, these are actually the voices of the entire Ninja Theory team – recorded during a company meeting.

    1. A couple of team members created a Hellblade kart racing mode. It never made it into the game (for obvious reasons) and the only remaining trace of it is this .gif:

    1. To make Senua’s costume look battle worn, one of our artists let his dog rough up our material samples before they were scanned and turned into in-game textures.

    1. Melina Juergens played the role of Senua, but her combat was performed in mo-cap by Chloe Bruce, Daisy Ridley’s stunt double from “Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens.”

    1. Ninja Theory has a development team of around 100 people, but Hellblade was created by a small team of just 20 people.
    2. With a small budget, Ninja Theory couldn’t afford to go and shoot performance capture for Hellblade’s cinematic scenes. Instead, they converted their boardroom into a makeshift performance capture space using a variety of materials including wardrobe poles.

    1. After the release of Hellblade, the team created an Accolades Trailer. Rather than including impressive quotes from press reviews in the trailer like most games do, the Hellblade trailer was created from fan screenshots and touching messages received from fans.

    1. Senua’s blue war paint was actually a cheap supermarket face pack applied to Melina before being scanned and transformed onto a digital character.

  • Masahiro Sakurai Says There's No Correct Way To Play Super Smash Bros.

    You heard the man.

Earlier this week, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate director Masahiro Sakurai wrote about the new Switch release in Famitsu.

According to the translation – courtesy of Siliconera, Sakurai’s thoughts about how the game should be played are still the same. His belief is there is no correct way to necessarily play Smash Bros. As for his views on the eSports scene, he’s come to accept the way the game is played on a competitive level but noted how a lot of work had gone into the casual play style.

  • Random: Backpack Kid Suing Epic For Inclusion Of Floss Dance Move In Fortnite

    Join the club.

Yesterday, we found out Alfonso Ribeiro – who played Carlton Banks in the early ’90s television sitcom The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air – would be suing Epic Games for adding his character’s dance move to its popular free-to-play multiplayer title Fortnite.

Ribeiro is not the first famous person to take legal action against the video game company now valued at $15 billion and he seemingly won’t be the last, either. In the latest news, Backpack Kid – the creator of the “Floss” dance – is the latest individual looking to make some extra money from this recent trend. The 16-year-old’s mother and manager have filed a lawsuit on his behalf because they believe the game’s developers are taking advantage of his success.

  • Embrace The Festive Season With These Nintendo Labo Christmas Creations

    Spread the joy.

Nintendo Japan has shared some video ideas illustrating how Labo users can celebrate the festive season. There’s one for the Variety Kit that shows how it can be transformed into an entire Christmas scene or you can even become Santa Claus with the Robot Kit. Else, you could perhaps transform the more recently-released Vehicle Kit into a reindeer.

As brief as the clips are, there’s enough on display if you really do want to replicate these ideas at home. Take a look:
