  • 16 Mortal Kombat 11 Guest Characters We Want As DLC

While the Mortal Kombat series has never been shy about taking inspiration from popular culture, the last two NetherRealm games have really gone out of their way to include characters from other universes as DLC.

Mortal Kombat X’s DLC included a handful of horror icons like Jason Voorhees, Freddy Krueger, The Predator, and a Xenomorph alien who all fit right in performing gruesome fatalities.

Meanwhile, Injustice 2 had the denizens of the DC Universe squaring off some iconic characters from other comic publishers, Hellboy and the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Hell, even Kratos popped up in the 2011 Mortal Kombat. It’s entirely possible some of them will return, but who else?

  • Marvel's Spider-Man (PS4) – Silver Lining DLC Review

Insomniac saved the best for last: Spider-Man: Silver Lining is what I wanted the first two chapters of The City That Never Sleeps DLC to be. Great character work across the board is not only fun in the moment but raises intriguing, farther-reaching implications for the story. And with diverse missions and a clear sense of resolution, this is just a much more satisfying day in the very dangerous life of Spider-Man.

Silver Lining’s story will only run you about an hour and a half at most, but its missions are some of the most varied of the three DLCs thus far, and all were a joy to play. Silver Sable’s return is a treat. I found her to be a bit forgettable in the main campaign, but with her dual desires to retrieve her gear from Hammerhead and work toward helping her home country, Insomniac has done a nice job of adding depth to her. Voice actor Nichole Elise’s strong performance proves less is more, as Sable can often say as much with an outreached hand as Spider-Man can in several puns – which she, amusingly, has very little patience for. The interplay between the two is a highlight of not just Silver Lining but of the entire City That Never Sleeps DLC trilogy.

  • Get In The Holiday Spirit With A Burning Car From The Last Of Us Part II

Get In The Holiday Spirit With A Burning Car From The Last Of Us Part II

Need a fireplace to brighten your holiday gathering, but you just don’t have a hearth on hand? Sony has you covered, with a gorgeous fire to pull up to warm your family’s hearts. Nothing quite sets the tone for opening presents and celebrating togetherness like the burning husk of a derelict car, radiating warmth in the cold rain of a post-apocalyptic future.

We suspect there’s a lot of ways someone might take advantage of this holiday present from PlayStation. Maybe you set up a giant monitor next to the dinner table to accompany that meal your Dad spent all day making? Or turn the volume way, way up during the New Year’s party so you can hear the occasional shrieking terror that echoes in the baleful night?

Or perhaps you’re a real hardcore fan, and you’re ready to watch the whole thing from beginning to end to pick up that clever secret about the game that we’re sure is in there? We haven’t found it yet, but I suspect it’s just a matter of putting the 2-hour video on repeat a few times before someone earns internet fame for figuring out the remarkable easter egg. Don’t give up!

Happy holidays, everybody. May this be the only flaming wreck that is a part of your holiday festivities!

  • Watch Footage Of Deku From My Hero Academia, Asta From Black Clover In Jump Force

Watch Footage Of Deku From My Hero Academia, Asta From Black Clover In Jump Force

Update: As part of the annual Jump Fest event, Bandai Namco has shown off a new trailer featuring Deku and Black Clover‘s Asta in action. You can find the original story below.

Bandai Namco released a story trailer today for Jump Force, their new crossover fighting game featuring heroes and villains from Japanese comic magazine Shonen Jump. After that trailer, they announced that Deku, the young protagonist from My Hero Academia, would be joining the fight for our quirk-less Earth as part of the base roster.

Guess who’s Detroit SMASHING!!! into #JUMPFORCE.

Pre-order your copy today and Unite to Fight: https://t.co/2aJpkIOzL5 pic.twitter.com/V36d0Cw9xf

    — Bandai Namco US (@BandaiNamcoUS) December 19, 2018

Deku is the main character in a mostly ensemble cast in both the manga and anime of My Hero Academia. Born without a superpower, or quirk, in a world where everyone has them in some type or another, Deku inherited a quirk from his Superman-like hero, All Might. Under All Might’s guidance, he started on a path to become a symbol of peace and justice for the world.

In Jump Force, Deku uses the same realistic artstyle that every character in the game has, but maintains the same character design from his series. That means his giant eyes are accompanied by realistically textured clothes and gloves, which is certainly a look. The game will also have character customization for your avatars, so if you want to dress your original character up in Deku’s clothes and use some of his moves, you’re covered.

Jump Force releases on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC on February 15.

  • Darksiders III Update Adds Classic Combat Mode For Series Fans

Darksiders III Update Adds Classic Combat Mode For Series Fans

Gunfire games, the ex-Vigil developers who created Darksiders III under THQ Nordic, released an update to the game that allows players to switch combat to what they have dubbed “Classic” style.

The new update, which prompts a choice when players start a new game or load up a save with the update installed, asks players to pick between Default and Classic modes. While default functions the same as the game has since launch, Classic is described as a mode similar to previous games.

The current method forces players to commit to their attacks in a manner similar to Dark Souls or Monster Hunter: World. Classic allows players to dodge during attacks, meaning you can start an attack without having to finish it, massively cutting down your vulnerability window. You can also use items instantly in Classic mode, making for a decidedly easier experience.

You can read our review of Darksiders III right here. If you’re trying to decide which combat mode to use, you can also read our argument for why Dark Souls fans shouldn’t overlook the game.

  • Grab Free Anime Seasons Like Dragon Ball Super And My Hero Academia On Xbox One Today

Grab Free Anime Seasons Like Dragon Ball Super And My Hero Academia On Xbox One Today

In a weird bit of brand synergy, Funimation, an anime localization and licensing company wholly owned by Sony, has a deal going with Microsoft to release the first seasons of several shows for free on the Xbox One and Windows. All you have to do is click on them now and you own them for good.

There’s a couple of series you can check out right now. If you’re a Dragon Ball fan but haven’t checked out Super yet, you can dip your toes into Dragon Ball Super with the first season right here, which is about 13 episodes. If you don’t know the difference between a Goku and a Gohan, much less whatever a Piccolo might be, you can start with the first season of Dragon Ball Z for free right here.

You can also give My Hero Academia a try with 13 episodes of the Uncut version. It’s a good primer to introduce you to the world of quirks and Deku’s quest to become a symbol of peace for the populace at large. There’s Assassination Classroom, as well, which I quite enjoyed the manga of but can’t really speak to the animated version. It tells the story of a monster that has made a deal with the government to teach a high school class which is tasked with killing him before the end of the year.

Other options are Attack on Titan and Fairy Tail. The former will start you on a gritty tale about humanity attempting to survive a mass extinction event of carnivorous giants and the latter is about magicians going on adventures and battles in a mostly care-free world.

You can download all of this or some of it and watch at your leisure. May your holidays be as filled with Goku as the rest of the year was.

  • Review: Marvel's Spider-Man: Silver Lining – A Lukewarm End to the City That Never Sleeps Story

    Every cloud.

The release of Silver Lining marks the conclusion of the City That Never Sleeps expansion for Marvel’s Spider-Man, and as a finale, it’s a slight letdown. It’s clearer now more than ever that a sequel is coming, but leaving so many narrative threads dangling makes for quite an unsatisfying ending to this extra story.

Even so, this still provides you with yet more Spidey action, and when the game is as fun to play as it is, that’s not really a bad thing. The story continues where Turf Wars left off, reintroducing Silver Sable as Hammerhead continues his quest for power. The big baddy has been stealing supplies and equipment from Sable International, and as you can imagine, the fiery mercenary isn’t best pleased. Her relationship with Spider-Man is explored as the pair butt heads in an effort to stop Hammerhead.

  • Game of the Year 2018: The 10 Best PlayStation Soundtracks

    Life’s a happy song.

2018 was absolutely loaded with great games, and equally great music. The quality started all the way back in January and didn’t let up, offering top-notch content throughout the year. But, as with most lists of this nature, some truly incredible music had to be left off, including the likes of Dead Cells, Hollow Knight, Spider-Man, and more. But let’s jump into what did make the cut…

    10: Beat Saber

One of the best new PlayStation VR titles of the year, Beat Saber offers up an exhilarating rhythm experience that sees you slashing notes to the beat of some infectiously catchy electronic music. The music – largely courtesy of Jaroslav Beck, alongside some additional contributors – is great on its own, but in the throes of playing, it’s downright transcendent.

  • Game of the Year 2018: #10 – Spyro: Reignited Trilogy

    Feel good dragon.

Taking into account the joy provided by the release of Crash Brandicoot N.Sane Trilogy, it was silly to think that this venture wasn’t going to kickstart a flurry of remakes that would send us flying head first back to our childhood. Despite some hearty competition in 2018, the Spyro: Reignited Trilogy still manages to sparkle like a gem in the rough, bringing smooth animation and personality to its once clunky and rigid PSone forebear.

Infuriating, clumsy controls were the very essence of retro platforming, and any fan of the likes of Crash or Spyro will be well acquainted with the immeasurable bouts of frustration that had us gritting our teeth and shaking our fists at the TV screen. This was forgivable by game standards back in the 90s, however, our purple, scaly quadruped required a real do-over in order to impress modern gamers and their more demanding expectations. Fortunately, the Spyro: Reignited Trilogy addresses most of these finicky issues; no more soaring off a cliff with a mere flick of the analogue or fussing with non compliant camera controls – everything feels sleek and smooth.
