  • River City Girls Flips the Script on PS4 This September

You knocked me out with your brass knuckle tattoo.

WayForward’s bringing a hearty helping of girl power to the PlayStation 4 from 5th September, with the refreshingly retro River City Girls. The latest in the long line of Kunio-Kun titles will flip the script, seeing high-schoolers Kyoko and Misako slugging their way through the mean streets of the titular River City in pursuit of their boyfriends.

There’s a hint of Ubisoft’s Scott Pilgrim to the animation and art style, which is no bad thing. Expect some depth to this beat-‘em-up, too, as you interact with NPCs and purchase stat-boosting items. According to the press release, you’ll even be able to recruit defeated enemies to fight on your side – all to the beat of an original synthpop soundtrack, as revealed by the trailer embedded above.

  • Game of the Month: Best PS4 Games of June 2019

Detectives, crystals, civil war, and bandicoots.

Remember when publishers used to avoid the summer months at all costs when it came to releasing their games? It still happens to some extent, but you can’t possibly say that June 2019 was barren. Last month, the PlayStation 4 was showered with new releases, and many of them were very good. This meant that we ended up with a longer list of nominees for Game of the Month than usual, but rest assured, only the best of the best end up in these articles.

  • World War Z’s Latest PS4 Update Adds Extreme Difficulty Mode

Even more content coming in late July.

The popular World War Z is back again with yet another free update on PS4, with the main headline this time around being the addition of a sixth tier of difficulty. It’s available for download right now, so see it in action in the video above while you wait.

While The Six Skulls update does indeed make the game’s zombie hordes an even greater threat, there are some seemingly worthy rewards to be had if you make it out alive. Beating a single chapter on the new extreme difficulty mode will unlock a new melee weapon named the Wakizashi, and beating every chapter that makes up all episodes will give players the Mk110 sniper rifle. Thanks to its unique perks, this is a gun that hardcore players will surely yearn for.

  • Don’t Waste Your Money on DayZ in the EU PSN’s Latest Deal of the Week

    You have been warned.

DayZ might have been somewhat of a decent experience half a decade ago, but fast-forward to 2019 and its PS4 port is one of the worst games we’ve played this generation. Somehow, it has become the European PlayStation Network’s deal of the week, but we implore you not to pick it up out of sheer curiosity.

Until 11th July, you can save 25% and bring the asking price down to £29.99. That’s a £10 saving, but it’s still a complete rip-off. In the 2/10 Push Square review, we described it as a waste of everyone’s time. “DayZ is a complete and utter disaster on PS4. Not only is it profoundly outdated in 2019, it’s also technically inept. A horrendous frame rate brings the experience to a standstill on a worryingly consistent basis, while numerous bugs and glitches are a bewilderment.” Again, please don’t waste your money on DayZ.

  • Unachieved Shenmue III Stretch Goals Incorporated into Game

    Greater scope.

Shenmue III smashed Kickstarter records when it was crowd-funded a few years ago, but there were Stretch Goals in the final campaign that weren’t achieved. Fortunately, through additional funding from publisher Deep Silver, developer Ys Net has been able to implement some of these features into the game.

Among some of the unexpected additions are multiple minigames, and changes to the overall flow of the release’s sandbox setting. “We have in effect been able to achieve a scale greater than that of Shenmue II and bring the fun of an ‘open world’ to life,” the developer wrote in a Kickstarter update. “To better experience quests and events, NPCs and things to interact with in the cities have been multiplied beyond what was originally envisioned making for a more complete Shenmue experience.”

  • Gran Turismo PS5 Is Already in Development

Will be the ‘complete form’ of Gran Turismo.

We wouldn’t be surprised to see Gran Turismo 7 launch alongside the PlayStation 5 next holiday, and series creator Kazunori Yamauchi has hinted that work on the next iteration in the simulation racing franchise is already underway. Speaking with GT Planet, he explained that he feels PlayStation 4 title Gran Turismo Sport has the best physics in the property’s history, and that he’s also proud of the innovative “sport” multiplayer structure.

But the latest game was obviously dinged for its lack of single player content, and according to the motorsport maestro, he wants the next edition of the series to be a culmination of all Polyphony Digital’s efforts to date. “I think the next title that we’re going to create will be a combination of the past, present, and future – a complete form of Gran Turismo,” he said. It makes sense: the online in GT Sport is excellent, but there’s room to build a more traditional campaign around it.

  • Super Mario Maker 2 Comes to PS4, with a Helping Hand from LittleBigPlanet 3

    Claptrap9 does it again.

Dreams is all the rage right now when it comes to player creation, but don’t rule out Media Molecule’s previous franchise, LittleBigPlanet, just yet. Much like what he did with the original Super Mario Maker, prolific inventor Claptrap9 has re-made Super Mario Maker 2‘s creation suite in LittleBigPlanet 3.

It’s well worth checking out in the video above, courtesy of GameXplain, which takes a look at what’s possible within what is still a single level in the game. Sticking to the Super Mario World style, you can change the theme, place straight and sloped tiles, and deploy a number of classic Mario enemies. The physics aren’t quite the same as Nintendo’s favourite plumber, but it’s an impressive attempt from just a single person. Especially so when you consider that Claptrap9 is just 14 years old.
