  • Assassin’s Creed Odyssey Final DLC Episode Looks Like a Strong Finish in New Gameplay Preview

    Atlantis awaits.

Ubisoft has released a four-minute gameplay preview for Judgment of Atlantis, the third and final DLC episode in Assassin’s Creed Odyssey’s Fate of Atlantis saga. Needless to say, if you’re looking to go into this last adventure completely blind, then we’d advise against watching it, but at least be safe in the knowledge that it looks great.

As we’ve come to expect, there are new weapons, armour, and skills to obtain, all while the Eagle Bearer faces off against some of the game’s most powerful foes. Story-wise, Alexios or Kassanda is tasked with bringing judgement down upon the inhabitants of Atlantis, as our hero investigates the corruption that festers beneath the surface of the ancient city. It’s an intriguing concept, so here’s hoping that the DLC offers up some engaging quests.

  • Days Gone 1.25 Patch Drops as First Motorcycle Challenge Drifts In

    Drifter’s run.

The post-release support for Days Gone has proved both a blessing and a curse. Sony Bend has done a brilliant job of addressing criticism levelled at the PlayStation 4 exclusive open worlder promptly, but those 15GB updates sure do start to add up. Your bandwidth is about to take another battering regardless, as the Oregon-based developer has dropped patch v1.25 this weekend.

In case you weren’t aware, this includes support for the latest free DLC challenge, which centres on the motorcycle for the first time. Here’s everything that the update includes:

  • Super Mario 64’s Physics Flawlessly Recreated in Dreams

    Peachy.

A complaint often levelled at user-generated content is that it rarely plays as well as a professionally made game. It’s a fair criticism: hobbyist creators working in suites such as LittleBigPlanet are often capable of incredible artistic achievements, but it’s rare for amateurs to get that all-important “feel” right. That’s what makes this Super Mario 64-inspired sandbox made in Dreams all the more impressive.

Pay little attention to the placeholder backdrop: this is all about the controls. Mario moves fluidly around the environment, animating almost identically to his Nintendo 64 counterpart. Practically all of his moves are intact, and it’s perhaps worth reiterating that this has been hand animated and programmed with a DualShock 4 by a PlayStation Network user named PieceofCraft.

  • PS Vita’s Not Quite Done Yet, Despite Reports to the Contrary

    Vitality.

Sony’s largely called time on the PlayStation Vita, with hardware and cartridge production mostly over. There are still a surprising number of titles being published globally on the PlayStation Store, however, but there had been some speculation overnight that support may be coming to an abrupt end. Jack of All Controllers picked up on a Kickstarter post by Sense: A Cyberpunk Ghost Story developer Suzaku, which seemed to imply that the Japanese giant had set a date for final software submissions.

Fortunately, prevalent PS Vita publishers like Ratalaika Games and Cowcat Games have since commented that they’re not aware of any cut-offs, and haven’t received any communication from the platform holder on the matter. We’re going to chalk this down to a misunderstanding for now – although there is every opportunity that the Japanese giant could still pull the plug at any moment. For now, the portable lives on – just about.

  • Soapbox: Why Sony’s PS5 Strategy Will Pay Dividends

Sammy believes giant is right to target hardcore gamers.

Stop me if you’ve heard this one before: the PlayStation 5 is poised to “fail”, and op-ed writers around the world are scrambling for the hottest take. One article published by financial site CCN – not to be confused with American news network CNN, to be clear – was bold enough to declare the device “dead on arrival”. The author’s reasoning? Sony’s targeting hardcore gamers.

The scepticism takes me back to the halcyon days of 2013, when there was strong chatter that the company was on the cusp of bowing out of the industry entirely. Its response: to laser target hardcore gamers with a PlayStation 4 marketing campaign which celebrated its 20 year legacy. As it now approaches 100 million units, the success of the company’s current console cannot be questioned.

  • Marvel’s Avengers Gameplay Will Only Be Shown to Comic-Con Attendees

    Marvellous.

After a wonky unveiling at E3 earlier this summer, Marvel’s Avengers hasn’t done a great amount to restore faith. Many who have actually seen the game in action say it looks decent enough, but there are still so many unanswered questions. It’s the kind of uncertainty that can damage perception of a title before it’s even given a chance.

  • Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Multiplayer to Be Shown in Full on 1st August

    This means war.

Right now, several Twitch streamers are playing Call of Duty: Modern Warfare live. They’re busy showing off Gunfight, a new 2 vs 2 competitive mode played on tiny maps where loadouts change every round. It’s the first time the game has been shown publicly, but we’re not getting a ton of information out of it. Hold on for a few more weeks, though, as Infinity Ward is about to fully unveil its latest shooter’s multiplayer.

On 1st August, Modern Warfare’s multiplayer “universe” will be properly revealed. We expect we’ll see a brand new trailer highlighting the competitive options, but it’s possible the developer will delve into the co-op side of things as well. We’ll find out soon enough, but we do hope Activision plans to show the single player off at some point too.

  • Shenmue III Backers Irate as Pre-Order Bonuses Come at Extra Cost

    Season Pass also sold separately.

Regardless of whether it will live up to expectations or not, Shenmue III is at long last beginning to look like a finished product, which should be cause for celebration. Unfortunately, the long awaited sequel has been in the headlines for all the wrong reasons of late – mostly due to developer Ys Net accepting a window of timed exclusivity for the Epic Games Store release.

None of this drama really affects the PlayStation 4 edition, but one thing that will are the lack of pre-order bonuses for Kickstarter backers. If you pre-order the game through participating retail outlets right now, you’ll be guaranteed the Kenpogi Training Outfit, ‘Blazing Kick’ Advanced Technique Scroll, and Peking Power Starter Pack.
