  • Anticipated Sequel Psychonauts 2 Delayed to 2020

    All change.

It’s all change at developer Double Fine: the studio is now part of Microsoft’s first-party portfolio and Psychonauts 2 has been delayed. The anticipated sequel – which was originally due out in 2019 – will now deploy in 2020. Don’t worry about the Xbox acquisition, though – it’ll still launch on the PlayStation 4, as originally planned.

“We’re now targeting next year for release,” the studio said as part of an update on crowd funding website Fig. “We know it’s always disappointing when you have to wait a bit longer, but we also know that you are an amazing, supportive bunch, who – just like us – want the game to be as good as possible. So we’re hopeful you’ll understand!”

  • New US PlayStation Store Sale Reduces Prices on Retro PS4 Titles

    Go old school.

Prize open those wallets: it’s time for another new sale in PlayStation Land. This time, the North American PS Store has an offer focused squarely on retro games. If you’re in the mood for some old school action, this sale’s for you.

If you weren’t aware, the PS4 plays host to a wide range of older titles, and a whole bunch of them are included here. PS2 Classics like Ape Escape 2 or Hot Shots Tennis are going for $4.99, Castlevania Requiem is a few dollars off at $11.99, and old arcade titles like Galaga and Pac-Man are just $1.99 each. There are even some more modern games in the sale with ties to gaming’s early years. Games such as Sonic Mania, Spyro: Reignited Trilogy, and even Owlboy are going cheap.

  • Forager Scrounges Up a Physical Retail Release on PS4 Later This Year

    Digital coming sooner.

For those out of the loop, Forager is a well-liked indie title that’s making its way to PlayStation 4. The game is an addictive mix of looting, crafting, adventuring, and puzzle solving as you explore an ever expanding map. It’s down for a digital release on 30th July, but if you prefer physical copies, we have some good news.

The cute little title is getting a retail release in mid-September; 10th for North America and 13th for Europe. The disc version of the game, which will cost $29.99, comes packed with an exclusive poster and set of stickers. With a fairly big time difference between the digital and physical launches, we imagine many will plump for the former, but it’s nice to have the option.

  • Feature: Best PlayStation Music of June 2019

    The rut deepens.

While June 2019 may have the fewest entries in a given month since we started doing this series, the silver lining is that the two entries in question are really good. One is one of the best scores from one of our favourite composers in the industry and the other is something wholly different: a great score from a game this author never played, but still loved the music from. Let’s jump in!

    Luna

A delightful and relaxing VR title from Funomena, Luna also happens to sport a score from Austin Wintory, easily one of our favorite game composers — period. So, with that being said, the fact that Luna is one of my favorites of his is a pretty big statement. The game’s emphasis on and utilisation of game music is baked in from the start. This intertwining of mechanics and music allows the score to hit home even more effectively than would be normally expected, heightening an already wonderful game even further.

  • Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? – Issue 279

    Fun in the sun.

We’re knee-deep into the summer now, so while the release schedule is looking a little on the lighter side, it’s a good opportunity for you to tick some titles off your backlog. But what are you playing this weekend? Let’s talk it out once more.

    Stephen Tailby, Associate Editor

Like a fool, I’ve taken my first steps into The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. With so many other games vying for my attention, it’s going to be hard to focus. Detroit: Become Human beckons, and I’d like to get a little further in Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled’s first Grand Prix. Where to start?

It’s a free-to-play team-based action-shooter that features both mobile suit and infantry combat. • Wargroove on PS4 Won’t Feature Cross-Platform Multiplayer

    Release date imminent.

Wargroove developer and publisher Chucklefish has finally broken the silence on the status of the PlayStation 4 version. The PS4 port has been in the works months after the game released on other platforms, but it seems the wait is finally almost over.

After briefly commenting on the PS4 edition last week, the company has now published an official statement on its website. According to Chucklefish, it’s now in “the final stages of CERT”, meaning the port is with Sony so it can test the final build and provide a seal of approval. Once this process is over (and assuming all goes well), we should hear news of a release date — and it seems this won’t take long.
