New Netflix Trailer for Sci-Fi Film 'The Titan' Starring Sam Worthington

    The Titan Trailer

“The goal? To relocate humanity to another planet and avoid extinction.” Netflix has debuted a new official trailer for the weird sci-fi action film titled The Titan, starring Sam Worthington. Set in the near future, the plot is about a military program to develop superhumans called “Titans” to help us colonize Saturn’s moon Titan, but the side effects are deadly. Worthington plays a hot shot Air Force pilot who becomes the first successful Titan creation, but things start to go dangerously awry as time goes on. The full cast includes Taylor Schilling, Tom Wilkinson, Agyness Deyn, Nathalie Emmanuel, and Corey Johnson. This trailer is thankfully better than the first trailer, but this still just looks so frickin’ weird, and they don’t even show him in his fully finished alien form by the end. I don’t even know if I want to watch this? Does anyone? ›››

Friedkin Films an Exorcism in Trailer for 'The Devil and Father Amorth'

The Devil and Father Amorth Trailer

“I had no idea what to expect.” The Orchard has unveiled the official trailer for William Friedkin’s latest film, a documentary (of sorts) about a real life exorcism, titled The Devil and Father Amorth. Friedkin goes to film Father Gabriele Amortha as he performs his ninth exorcism on an Italian woman. This actually premiered at the Venice Film Festival last fall, perhaps just because it’s Friedkin and not because it’s really that good. The film is only 68 minutes long, and got dismal reviews out of the festivals, but if you’re into exorcisms you might as well check it out anyway. Robbie Collin’s Venice review in the Telegraph states: “The film is unquestionably a curio for converts rather than the meatier exploration it will leave many sceptics (including this one) hankering after, but it leaves you with plenty to chew on…” Well, there you go. ›››

    Backstabbing for Beginners Trailer

“It sickens me to have to stand there and listen to your lies.” A24 has debuted the first official trailer for a true story political drama titled Backstabbing for Beginners, from Danish director Per Fly. The film is about a young, idealistic program coordinator at the United Nations, as played by Theo James (from the Divergent series), who stumbles upon a conspiracy involving Iraq’s oil reserves. Ben Kingsley stars as his boss, and the cast includes Jacqueline Bisset, Christina Dupre, Rossif Sutherland, Belçim Bilgin, Rachel Wilson, and Brian Markinson. This looks like a very compelling political thriller about a kid just trying to do what’s right. And, as A24 says in their email, it’s a very “timely” film for us to watch these days. ›››

  • First Full Trailer for Comedy 'Tag' About the Craziest Game of Tag Ever

First Full Trailer for Comedy 'Tag' About the Craziest Game of Tag Ever

    Tag Movie Trailer

“You never know when someone’s going to pop up.” And… you’re it! Warner Bros has finally debuted an official trailer for the summer comedy movie Tag, based on the true story of a massive game of Tag that a few guys have been playing every year since they were kids. The game is so competitive, so intense, that people will fly all around the country just to not be the one who is “it”. Yeah, it’s crazy. The movie is about a small group of former classmates who organize the elaborate, annual game. With a rockin’ cast: Ed Helms, Jake Johnson, Annabelle Wallis, Rashida Jones, Isla Fisher, Leslie Bibb, Hannibal Buress, with Jon Hamm and Jeremy Renner. As fun as this looks, it is actually going to have anything to say, or just: hey, be as crazy as you can, because why not have fun? Take a look and let us know if you’re up for this. ›››

  • Ryu Seung-ryong in Trailer for Korean Thriller 'Seven Years of Night'

Ryu Seung-ryong in Trailer for Korean Thriller 'Seven Years of Night'

    Seven Years of Night Trailer

“The death triggers the devil within…” CJ Entertainment from Korea has released a new official US trailer for a Korean thriller titled Seven Years of Night, directed by Choo Chang-min, slated for release in early April in just a few weeks. The dark crime film tells the story of a man plotting a revenge, over a period of seven years, against the son of his daughter’s murderer in a hit-and-run accident by a lake. The tagline from the poster is pretty slick – “there’s something that never sinks” – which imagines up all kinds of intriguing possibilities, and fits with the emotional story. “The long nightfall of rage and revenge.” The cast of Seven Years of Night includes Ryu Seung-ryong, Jang Dong-gun, Song Sae-byuk, Ko Gyoung-pyo, and Jeong Hee Moon. This reminds me a bit of Park Chan-wook’s early films, like Oldboy and Mr. Vengeance, which give the characters copious amounts of time to exact just the right kind of cruel, necessary revenge. ›››

  • US Trailer for Animated Comedy 'Son of Bigfoot' from nWave Pictures

US Trailer for Animated Comedy 'Son of Bigfoot' from nWave Pictures

    The Son of Bigfoot Trailer

“There’s one more thing… you can talk to animals.” Viva Pictures has debuted a new full-length official US trailer for an animated film titled The Son of Bigfoot, produced by StudioCanal in France, and animated by nWave Pictures in Belgium. The film is aimed towards younger kids and families, and is about a boy who goes “on an epic and daring quest to uncover the mystery behind his long-lost dad, only to find out that he is none other than the legendary Bigfoot.” Surprise! Don’t confuse this with the other animated bigfoot movie coming out this year – Smallfoot – which is made by Warner Bros. The voice cast for Son of Bigfoot includes Cinda Adams, Mari Devon, and Kirk Thornton. This really looks really bad, and I always wonder how animation this awful still gets made, because it seems like no one even tried to make a good movie. Oh well. ›››

Trailer for 'An Ordinary Man' Starring Ben Kingsley as a War Criminal

    An Ordinary Man Trailer

“I was always inclined to be an ordinary man…” Saban Films has released an official US trailer for an indie thriller titled An Ordinary Man, made by producer / director Brad Silberling. Not to be confused with the Coen Brothers’ film An Ordinary Man, which starred Michael Stuhlbarg, this one is new and stars Ben Kingsley. Kingsley plays an infamous war criminal and former general spending his life on the run from international authorities. He is hiding in a new secret location and develops a relationship with the maid, played by Hera Hilmar, but discovers the truth about her and everything changes. The cast includes Peter Serafinowicz and Robert Blythe. This played at a few festivals last year but hasn’t made much of an impact. ›››

  • Watch: Tatiana Maslany in Powerful Short Film 'Apart From Everything'

Watch: Tatiana Maslany in Powerful Short Film 'Apart From Everything'

    Apart From Everything

Here’s another outstanding short film, featuring two of the most talented up-and-coming actresses around. Tatiana Maslany (from “Heartland”, “Orphan Black”, Two Lovers and a Bear, Stronger) plays a woman that has been gone for two years, including a stint in rehab, who returns to “face the emotional fallout of her disappearance and make amends with the girlfriend”, and her brother. The cast includes Tattiawna Jones and Sergio DiZio. The short film is inspired by J.D. Salinger’s story Franny and Zooey, it’s an homage that becomes something of its own that speaks volumes about the trials and tribulations of love in today’s world. It’s enlivening to see Maslany continue to push herself with even deeper, and more complex performances. ›››

  • Official Trailer for Xavier Beauvois' World War I Drama 'The Guardians'

Official Trailer for Xavier Beauvois' World War I Drama 'The Guardians'

    The Guardians Trailer

“She’s a hard worker. As good as any man.” Music Box Films has released the official US trailer for the US release of Xavier Beauvois’ new French film The Guardians, which premiered at the Toronto Film Festival last year. This indie drama is set during World War I, otherwise known as “The Great War” at the time, and it’s about the few local women who are left behind to work on a family farm. Everything gets disrupted when the sons return on leave, and “Francine becomes the center of a familial disturbance.” Oh boy. Romance always messing things up. The cast is lead by Nathalie Baye and Iris Bry, and also includes Laura Smet, Cyril Descours, Gilbert Bonneau, Olivier Rabourdin, Nicolas Giraud, Mathilde Viseux-Ely, and Xavier Maly. This looks like a very moving, meaningful film about the power of “love, loss, and resilience.” ›››

  • First Trailer for Superpower Sci-Fi 'Higher Power' Starring Ron Eldard

First Trailer for Superpower Sci-Fi 'Higher Power' Starring Ron Eldard

    Higher Power Movie Trailer

“Well, what if I told you I had a plan? It’s the only thing powerful enough to stop what’s coming.” Magnet Releasing has debuted the first official trailer for a very weird, global-scale indie sci-fi film of sorts titled Higher Power, about a gamma ray that gives a human on Earth some crazy impressive superpowers. This is very hard to describe, you just have to dive into the footage. The official description is fairly vague as well, only explaining that “when the Universe decides what it wants, it’s pointless to resist.” You’ll get a sense of this in the trailer. Starring Ron Eldard as Joe Steadman, who reminds me a lot of a young Jeff Daniels in Dumb & Dumber. The cast includes Jade Tailor, Austin Stowell, Jordan Hinson, Colm Feore, Tom Wright, and Laura Margolis. This actually looks pretty cool, and a bit weird. It’s worth a watch, for sure. ›››
