First Red Band Trailer for Stoner Comedy 'Never Goin' Back' from A24

    Never Goin' Back Trailer

“Well, well, well, look at this!” A24 has debuted the first official red band trailer for a wild teenager stoner comedy titled Never Goin’ Back, which premiered at the Sundance Film Festival earlier this year. I heard great things about this film, but didn’t have a chance to catch it myself during the fest. The film has elicited some odd but accurate comparisons to American Honey or Spring Breakers, two other films released by A24 already. Jessie and Angela, high school dropouts, are taking a week off to chill at the beach. Too bad their house got robbed, rent’s due, they’re about to get fired, and they’re broke. Maia Mitchell and Camila Morrone star, and the cast includes Kyle Mooney, Joel Allen, and Aristotle Abraham II. This looks hilarious and crazy awesome in all the most wicked, amusing ways possible. Get the bong ready and enjoy. ›››

  • New Official Trailer for Horror 'The Hollow Child' About a Scary Forest

New Official Trailer for Horror 'The Hollow Child' About a Scary Forest

    The Hollow Child Trailer

“What are they?” “The hollow ones… They’re watching.” Vertical Entertainment has debuted an official US trailer for a horror film titled The Hollow Child, the feature directorial debut of Jeremy Lutter. Inspired a bit by a folklore tale about children-snatching trolls who secretly hide in the forest, the film is about a foster family that realizes something is wrong with one of them. A troubled foster teen, Samantha, works to expose a dangerous supernatural impostor in her new family and rescue her foster sister. The cast includes Jessica McLeod, Hannah Cheramy, John Emmet Tracy, Jana Mitsoula, Genevieve Buechner, Connor Stanhope, and Johannah Newmarch. This does look like a solid, very eerie forest horror. • Javier Bardem & Penélope Cruz in Official US Trailer for 'Loving Pablo'

Javier Bardem & Penélope Cruz in Official US Trailer for 'Loving Pablo'

    Loving Pablo Trailer

“I’ve seen things Pablo, when I was with you…” Universal has debuted an official US trailer for the film Loving Pablo, a romantic thriller (entirely in English) about the Colombian journalist who struck up a romantic relationship with notorious drug lord Pablo Escobar. The film premiered at last year’s Venice and Toronto Film Festivals, and is just hitting US theaters and VOD this summer, if you’re curious to check it out. This stars real-life couple Javier Bardem as Pablo Escobar, along with Penélope Cruz as journalist Virginia Vallejo. The film’s cast includes Peter Sarsgaard, Julieth Restrepo, and David Valencia. If you’re intrigued by Pablo, this isn’t the only recent Escobar film – The Infiltrator, Paradise Lost – but this does offer a bit of an interesting angle about their relationship. Might be worth a watch? Check it out below. ›››

  • Second Trailer for Bart Layton's True Heist Thriller 'American Animals'

Second Trailer for Bart Layton's True Heist Thriller 'American Animals'

    American Animals Trailer

“I don’t want you waking up 10 years from now wondering what could’ve happened.” The Orchard has revealed an enjoyable second trailer for the indie drama-documentary hybrid American Animals, which premiered at the Sundance Film Festival this year. Based on an actual true story, this stars Evan Peters, Barry Keoghan, Blake Jenner, and Jared Abrahamson as four young friends who try to pull off a poorly-planned heist stealing expensive art books from a university library. Things don’t go as planned, and lessons are learned. The real people they’re playing also appear in the film in various scenes and interviews. The cast also features Ann Dowd and Udo Kier. This is a very unique, very slick film the way it mixes the real and the fake elements and makes you think about more than just the heist at hand. It wasn’t one of my favorites at Sundance, but if this trailer gets your attention you should definitely put this film on your radar. ›››

  • Official Trailer for Scientists Doc 'The Most Unknown' by Motherboard

Official Trailer for Scientists Doc 'The Most Unknown' by Motherboard

    The Most Unknown Trailer

“You have a puzzle with a billion pieces, and we’ve got one piece.” Motherboard and Abramorama will be releasing this official science documentary later this month, so there’s no better time than now to feature a trailer for The Most Unknown. The “epic” feature documentary is an ambitious look at a side of science never before shown on screen. The film follows scientists around the globe as they explore new fields and visit new places. “Through these scientists’ journey — the film begins underneath a mountain and ends on a Monkey Island — The Most Unknown examines what it means to dedicate one’s life to questions humanity has yet to find answers for.” It’s directed by Ian Cheney, with advice from the great Werner Herzog; funded by a grant from Science Sandbox, an initiative dedicated to engaging everyone with the process of science. This looks cool, I’m intrigued to see what it shows and learn about all the questions they’re trying to answer. ›››

  • Fun Second Trailer for Musical Sequel 'Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again'

Fun Second Trailer for Musical Sequel 'Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again'

Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again

“What happened when you met my mother?” Get ready to dance! Universal has launched the second official US trailer for the highly anticipated musical sequel Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again, following up the hugely successful, beloved original movie from 2012. Told through the music of ABBA, the story is about a woman trying to figure out who her real father is. This is sort of a prequel, telling the story of how the three dads came into Donna’s life. Lily James stars in this one, as the younger Donna, Meryl Streep’s character from the first. The huge cast stars Amanda Seyfried, Christine Baranski, Meryl Streep, Colin Firth, Pierce Brosnan, Stellan Skarsgård, Dominic Cooper, Andy Garcia, Julie Walters, Cher, Jeremy Irvine, Alexa Davies, Naoko Mori, and Hugh Skinner. This looks like so much fun! Really, how could anyone not enjoy this film? Dancing and singing and romance and boats and parties and good times for all. ›››

  • First Trailer for Sci-Fi '2036 Origin Unknown' Starring Katee Sackhoff

First Trailer for Sci-Fi '2036 Origin Unknown' Starring Katee Sackhoff

    2036 Origin Unknown

“You’re living in his world now.” Gravitas Ventures has debuted the trailer for one of the sci-fi feature films from VFX designer and up-and-coming filmmaker Hasraf “HaZ” Dulull. This one is titled 2036 Origin Unknown, and it was made and completed before HaZ’s other feature film The Beyond (watch the trailer for that), but is being released after. For 2036 Origin Unknown, HaZ cast sci-fi veteran Katee Sackhoff as Mission Controller Mackenzie Wilson. The plot follows her as she assists an artificial intelligence system, called A.R.T.I., to uncover a mysterious object under the surface of Mars that could change the future of our planet as we know it. This has some cool VFX and big space-y moments, but I’m still not completely sold on it. The main AI story seems a bit lackluster overall, but I might still give this a shot anyway. Fire it up below. ›››

  • Final Trailer for Sailing Survival Drama 'Adrift' with Woodley & Claflin

Final Trailer for Sailing Survival Drama 'Adrift' with Woodley & Claflin

    Adrift Movie Trailer

“Come sail with me.” STX Entertainment has debuted the second (and labeled as “final”) trailer for survival drama Adrift, based on the true story of a sailing couple who barely survive riding through a Category 5 hurricane. We posted the first trailer a few months back, and it looks like a worthwhile survival thriller. Shailene Woodley & Sam Claflin star as Tami Oldham & Richard Sharp, two free-spirits who fall in love and embark on a lengthy journey. The cast includes Jeffrey Thomas, Elizabeth Hawthorne, and Grace Palmer. The film tells of “a young couple’s chance encounter” which “leads them first to love, and then on the adventure of a lifetime.” With a damaged boat and Richard injured, Tami works to keep them both alive as they wait to be rescued, adrift in the Pacific Ocean. This really does look a bit better than you’re likely expecting, more than just about surviving, as the emotional core here seems to be a very major force as well. ›››

Venturing into Cannes 2018: New Changes, New Rules, Are We Ready?

    Cannes 2018

Another year, another Cannes Film Festival. But this year is different. In 2017, Cannes celebrated its 70th anniversary and things went as they usually do. This year, for the 71st Cannes, they’re changing things up. In a statement sent to press in the last few weeks, Cannes director Thierry Frémaux explained: “We want to make the most of this new decade to explore, experiment, question our customs and practices.” In March, Cannes announced three major changes and new rules for the festival this year: no selfies on the red carpet, no Netflix films (in connection with French distributors upset because of archaic laws about films required to be in cinemas), and no more press screenings before the “public” (they’re not really public anyway) world premieres in the evening. With all of these changes, and more, it’s going to be a very, very interesting year. I’m sure some press will be pissed, others unfazed, but most of all – no one knows how it’s going to play out. ›››

  • Official Trailer for Dark Horror 'Island Zero' Written by Tess Gerritsen

Official Trailer for Dark Horror 'Island Zero' Written by Tess Gerritsen

    Island Zero Trailer

“Oooooh, end of the world!” Freestyle Digital Media has released a short, new official trailer, running only 30-seconds, for a dark comedy, horror thriller titled Island Zero, from director Josh Gerritsen and writer Tess Gerritsen (“Rizzoli & Isles”). The premise for this film sounds pretty cool, I just hope it’s better than it looks. A fishing community on a remote Maine island finds itself suddenly cut off from the rest of the world after the ferry stops coming. When people start to vanish, the terrified survivors realize that someone – or something – is hunting them. Island Zero stars Laila Robins, Adam Wade McLaughlin, Teri Reeves, and Matthew Wilkas. This seems like it could be fun, with some bloody twists and amusing horror moments, but I’m not entirely sure based on this 30 seconds of footage. Maybe it’s not bad? Give it a look. ›››
