New Teaser Trailer for Sam Levinson's Excellent 'Assassination Nation'

    Assassination Nation Teaser Trailer

“I will warn you, though, it gets pretty graphic…” Neon has released an amusing teaser trailer for the film Assassination Nation, one of the breakouts from the Midnight category at the Sundance Film Festival earlier this year. From writer/director Sam Levinson, the film is about the town of Salem, Massachusetts and how everyone loses their minds when a hacker releases the entire internet history of everyone in the town. The film totally won me over (read my full review), it’s way way smarter than you think and features some incredible filmmaking, not only with the performances but the cinematography and everything else. The cast of rowdy youngsters includes Odessa Young, Suki Waterhouse, Hari Nef, Abra, Anika Noni Rose, Colman Domingo, Maude Apatow, Kelvin Harrison Jr., with Bill Skarsgard, Joel McHale, and Bella Thorne. This is a cool teaser trailer but it’s also just a short clip from the opening of the film. Hopefully the full trailer drops soon so everyone can get a better look at how stellar this little indie film is. ›››

  • Steve Carell & Timothée Chalamet in Official Trailer for 'Beautiful Boy'

Steve Carell & Timothée Chalamet in Official Trailer for 'Beautiful Boy'

    Beautiful Boy Trailer

“I thought we were close, I thought we were closer than most fathers and sons… Why?!” Amazon Studios has released the first official trailer for Beautiful Boy, an adaptation from director Felix van Groeningen. This looks like a very tender, intimate, heartbreaking but also somewhat uplifting film about a family and the challenges they have with a son addicted to methamphetamines. Beautiful Boy stars Steve Carell and Timothée Chalamet as father and son David and Nic, dealing with their experiences of “survival, relapse, and recovery in a family coping with addiction over many years.” The full cast includes Maura Tierney, Christian Convery, Oakley Bull, Kaitlyn Dever, Amy Ryan, Stefanie Scott, and Julian Works. This looks really wonderful, and like an emotional rollercoaster, but it has that tiny bit of hope that makes me smile. I love the way this trailer starts with such a strong scene, letting it play out. This is a must watch. ›››

The Witch in the Window Trailer

“Do you think there’s something with the house?” An official trailer has debuted for the supernatural horror thriller The Witch in the Window, the solo feature debut of horror filmmaker Andy Mitton (We Go On, YellowBrickRoad). The film will premiere at the Fantastia Film Festival in Montreal later this summer, and will likely play at other genre festivals this year before it gets a release. Here’s the plot for The Witch in the Window: “When Simon brings his twelve year-old son, Finn, to rural Vermont to help flip an old farmhouse, they encounter the malicious spirit of Lydia, a previous owner. And now with every repair they make – she’s getting stronger.” This stars Alex Draper as Simon and introducing Charlie Tacker as Finn, with Greg Naughton, Arija Bareikis, and Carol Stanzione. This first teaser is quite good, might be worth a watch. ›››

First Trailer for Andrew Bujalski's Sports Bar Comedy 'Support the Girls'

    Support the Girls Trailer

“You’re not wearing a whole lot of clothes, but it’s a family place.” Magnolia Pictures has released the first official trailer for an indie comedy film titled Support the Girls, about a group of women who work at a highway-side “sports bar with curves” – basically Hooters, but not really because that brand is trademarked. This is the latest film from Andrew Bujalski (Mutual Appreciation, Beeswax, Computer Chess, Results) and it first premiered at the SXSW Film Festival earlier this year. Regina Hall stars as the manager of the bar, whose optimism and faith is “tested over the course of a long, strange day.” The film’s full ensemble cast includes Haley Lu Richardson, Dylan Gelula, AJ Michalka, Shayna McHayle, Lea DeLaria, James Le Gros, Jana Kramer, Brooklyn Decker, and Lawrence Varnado. Well, I’ll be damned, this looks fantastic – seems to be a very smart satire with a few low key excellent performances. Check this out. ›››

Official Trailer for Restored Re-Release of Tarkovsky's 'Andrei Rublev'

    Andrei Rublev Trailer

“Through our sins, evil has assumed human form.” Janus Films has debuted a new trailer for a restoration re-release of the acclaimed classic Andrei Rublev, the fourth film directed by Andrei Tarkovsky. It didn’t open in America until 1973, despite premiering at the Cannes Film Festival in 1969. The film tells the story of a renowned icon painter, played by Anatoliy Solonitsyn, in medieval Russia, “one of Tarkovsky’s most revered films, an arresting meditation on art, faith, and endurance.” The Criterion Collection will be putting this out on DVD/Blu-ray in the fall, but before than the film will hit select theaters nationwide throughout late August and September. The director’s preferred 185-minute cut will be shown in cinemas, for those who are dedicated fans and want to see this on the big screen – a rare opportunity for a work as profound as this. ›››

Gear Up! Full-Length Trailer for Shane Black's 'The Predator' Arrives

    The Predator Trailer

“Predators don’t just sit around making hats out of rib cages. They conquered space… But that’s not what’s on the horizon.” 20th Century Fox has revealed the full-length trailer for The Predator, a new take on the Predator sci-fi action franchise, this time directed by Shane Black (Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, Iron Man 3, The Nice Guys) – who appeared in the original Predator as the character Hawkins. This is a gnarly new trailer with some seriously bloody, crazy, super nifty action and violence. Along with some nice foul language. The ensemble cast is lead by Jacob Tremblay, who “accidentally triggers” their return to Earth again, along with Sterling K. Brown, Yvonne Strahovski, Olivia Munn, Lochlyn Munro, Thomas Jane, Boyd Holbrook, Jake Busey, Keegan-Michael Key, Niall Matter, Trevante Rhodes (from Moonlight), plus Edward James Olmos. This is much, much better than the first trailer. Bring on the new Predator!! ›››

International Trailer for Hu Bo's Acclaimed 'An Elephant Sitting Still'

    An Elephant Sitting Still Trailer

“The world is a wasteland…” An international trailer has arrived online for the highly acclaimed film An Elephant Sitting Still, a film by Chinese filmmaker Hu Bo. This is Bo’s first & final film, as he tragically took his own life last year after finishing the film. It premiered at the Berlin Film Festival this year, where it won the FIPRESCI Prize and a Best First Feature “Special Mention”, and it has played at numerous other festivals including New Directors/New Films in NYC, plus the Sydney and Edinburgh Film Festivals, and is heading to the Karlovy Vary Film Festival next. The film actually runs nearly 4 hours in total, and tells a story across one day, linking the stories of various characters in one town. The focus is on bullying and the way people affect each other. Starring Yuchang Peng, Yu Zhang, Uvin Wang, and Congxi Li. This brief trailer does have English subtitles, but it’s all about the filmmaking that makes it a must see for cinephiles. ›››

  • Teaser Trailer for Heist Film 'The King of Thieves' with Michael Caine

Teaser Trailer for Heist Film 'The King of Thieves' with Michael Caine

    The King of Thieves

“If I can round up the right people…” Studiocanal UK has released the first teaser trailer for The King of Thieves, the latest film from British filmmaker James Marsh (The Theory of Everything, Man on Wire, Project Nim). The film tells the “incredible true story” of the Hatton Garden diamond robbery in London, which took place in April of 2015. A group of retired thieves decide to pull off one of the biggest heists ever in London robbing safe deposit boxes – and they got away with roughly £200 million, but were eventually caught. Michael Caine leads the excellent cast, with Jim Broadbent, Tom Courtenay, Charlie Cox, Michael Gambon, and Ray Winstone. This looks awesome!! I love a good heist film, but a kooky heist comedy with four old timer crooks is even better. Can’t wait to see more from this. Get your first look below. ›››

  • First Trailer for 'Crystal Swan' About a Young Female DJ from Belarus

First Trailer for 'Crystal Swan' About a Young Female DJ from Belarus

    Crystal Swan Trailer

“I want to see the birthplace of house music.” This looks fantastic! Watch the first trailer for a film titled Crystal Swan from Belarus, the feature directorial debut of filmmaker Darya Zhuk. This is premiering at the Karlovy Vary Film Festival starting at the end of this week – I’ll be there, and this is one of my highlights. Set in 1996, Crystal Swan is about a young Belarusian woman named Evelina who is trying desperately to get a visa to the USA so she can pursue her dreams of becoming a DJ. However, a typo in her application forces her to figure things out and possibly cause everything to fall apart. Alina Nasibullina stars, and the cast includes Ivan Mulin, Yury Borisov, Svetlana Anikey, & Ilya Kapanets. This reminds me of Mia Hansen-Løve’s excellent film about a young DJ called Eden, but there is a bit more dry humor in this one. And I can’t wait to see it, this looks like it might be a major discovery if it’s as good as this trailer promises. ›››
