Teaser Trailer for Kim Ji-woon's Korean Thriller 'The Age of Shadows'

    The Age of Shadows Trailer

The first trailer has debuted for the new film from Korean director Kim Ji-woon, who most recently made the action film The Last Stand featuring Arnold Schwarzenegger (though the rest of his filmography is much better). His latest film is a thriller titled The Age of Shadows and is set during the 1920s in Korea, telling a story about the Heroic Corps, an anti-Japanese independence organization that fought back against the Japanese occupation of Korea. The cast features Song Kang-ho, Gong Yoo, and Han Ji-min. This first trailer does have English subtitles, but it also highlights the stunning set design and sleek cinematography, which is standard for Kim Ji-woon’s films. I’m already looking forward to seeing this, whenever that will be. ›››

Watch: First Trailer for 'Rules Don't Apply' Directed by Warren Beatty

    Rules Don't Apply Trailer

“In this town, aren’t those the rules?” Fox has unveiled the first official trailer for the film Rules Don’t Apply, the latest feature directed by Warren Beatty since Bulworth in 1998. Beatty also stars in this as Howard Hughes, who contracts a young actress – played by Lily Collins – to work for him in Los Angeles. When she arrives, she meets her personal driver played by Alden Ehrenreich (who will next be playing a young Han Solo in the spin-off) and falls for him, but can’t break Hughes’ rule of having a relationship with an employee. The full cast includes Haley Bennett, Alec Baldwin, Ed Harris, Matthew Broderick, Martin Sheen, Annette Bening, Oliver Platt and Steve Coogan. This looks quite fun and especially charming and amusing. It definitely has an old Hollywood feel to it, but not as much as Hail, Caesar. Enjoy. ›››

  • Jet Li & Fan Bingbing in Chinese Action Fantasy 'League of Gods' Trailer

Jet Li & Fan Bingbing in Chinese Action Fantasy 'League of Gods' Trailer

    League of Gods Trailer

“When crisis comes, heroes will rise.” This looks so crazy. An official trailer has debuted online for an action fantasy film from China called League of Gods, being described as the “Chinese X-Men”, and it’s totally insane. The cast includes some big names including Fan Bingbing, Louis Koo, Tony Ka Fai Leung and Jet Li. This trailer has some wacky stuff in it – a baby with (farting) super powers, some kind of weird plant, a crazy CGI snake thing, surfing on shields, a guy with wings who can shoot lightning from his hands, and so much more. At least the action looks like it might be cool. The rest of it – I don’t know. You must watch this. ›››

  • Watch: Official Trailer for Border Patrol Agents Thriller 'Transpecos'

Watch: Official Trailer for Border Patrol Agents Thriller 'Transpecos'

    Transpecos Trailer

“They said that they’d kill my entire family… They even sent me a picture of my mom at the post office – you tell me what you would do?” Samuel Goldwyn Films has released an official trailer for an indie film called Transpecos, a tense thriller about Border Patrol agents that first premiered at SXSW. The cast features Johnny Simmons, Gabriel Luna, Clifton Collins Jr., David Acord and Oscar Avila. Three Border Patrol agents operate a remote checkpoint in the desert, and things get tense once they discover what’s inside one car that appears. This took filmmaker Greg Kwedar six years to make, in hopes of telling human stories caught within the balance. This is a solid trailer, I like that it ends on a very tense moment. ›››

  • Watch: First Trailer for Indie 'The Hollars' Directed by John Krasinski

Watch: First Trailer for Indie 'The Hollars' Directed by John Krasinski

    The Hollars Trailer

“Mom said things haven’t been great.” Sony Pictures Classics has unveiled a trailer for The Hollars, the indie comedy directed by actor John Krasinski, who also stars in the film. Similar to the other indie Other People, the story is about a son who returns home to spend time with his mother who has been diagnosed with cancer, and along the way deals with some of his own life problems. The ensemble cast includes Anna Kendrick, Richard Jenkins, Charlie Day, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Mary Kay Place, Margo Martindale, Josh Groban, Sharlto Copley and Randall Park. This wasn’t really one of my favorites out of Sundance, but it has some charm to it, and the cast is fun together. You can see what it’s about below. ›››

  • Another Wonderful Trailer for J.A. Bayona's 'A Monster Calls' Arrives

Another Wonderful Trailer for J.A. Bayona's 'A Monster Calls' Arrives

    A Monster Calls Trailer

“How does the story begin…?” Focus Features has unveiled a wonderful full-length trailer for J.A. Bayona’s A Monster Calls, which looks like it’s going to be much much better than Steven Spielberg’s The BFG. They’re both about big friendly giants, though the one in this movie seems to a be a big tree monster, voiced by Liam Neeson. The boy is played by Lewis MacDougall, and the cast features Sigourney Weaver, Toby Kebbell, and Felicity Jones as his Mum. The first two teasers were fantastic, but this one is even better showing more footage of the monster and more of the story. I really love the music in this, I love the atmosphere, I love the way the story is introduced, I’m pretty dang excited to see this. Give it a look below. ›››

Must Watch: First Trailer for Damien Chazelle's Musical 'La La Land'

    La La Land Trailer

“City of stars, are you shining just for me…?” Lionsgate has unveiled the first fantastic trailer for Damien Chazelle’s new Los Angeles-set musical La La Land, and it’s so totally wonderful. I love everything about this and can’t wait to see it. Ryan Gosling stars as a jazz pianist who falls for an aspiring actress, played by Emma Stone, in the City of Angels. There’s lots of singing and dancing and it all fills me with such joy because this is the next film from Chazelle, who blew everyone away with Whiplash. The full cast includes J.K. Simmons, Finn Wittrock, Rosemarie DeWitt, Sonoya Mizuno, Hemky Madera, Josh Pence and John Legend. This is one of those stop-what-you’re-doing and watch this right now kind of trailers. ›››

  • Trailer for Netflix's Indie Cult Film 'Rebirth' Directed by Karl Mueller

Trailer for Netflix's Indie Cult Film 'Rebirth' Directed by Karl Mueller

    Rebirth Trailer

“Leave whenever you want, leave anytime you want…” Netflix has released the official trailer for a new indie feature it produced called Rebirth, from filmmaker Karl Mueller. The film is about an old friend who surprisingly shows up out of nowhere and convinces Kyle, played by Fran Kranz, to participate in a “self-actualization program” called Rebirth. As expected, it turns out this program is more of a cult and it’s not exactly what it seems. The cast includes Adam Goldberg, Kat Foster, Nicky Whelan, Harry Hamlin, Andrew J. West, Sheryl Lee, Pat Healy, and Steve Agee. This looks quite intriguing, but I don’t know how much more it has to say about cults that hasn’t been covered in other films recently. Get a taste below. ›››

  • Watch: Visually Impressive Sci-Fi Short 'Adam' Rendered Real-Time

Watch: Visually Impressive Sci-Fi Short 'Adam' Rendered Real-Time

    Adam Short Film

There’s always time to fit some sci-fi into your day. This short film is actually a demo of a new live rendering engine for video games, but it’s pretty damn cool and worth watching anyway. The short is called Adam, directed by Veselin Efremov, and is set in the distant future. The plot seems to involve a robot (named Adam) waking up and discovering he is being released with many others just like him but is considered to be a criminal – the screen on his chest reads “Adam M. Thomas – Felony Code 227900”. Upon release, they encounter two mysterious bounty hunter-like characters that remove the felony code and let them be free. I like the visual storytelling in this, and it seems like there’s much more to this world worth exploring. Enjoy. ›››

  • First Red Band Trailer for Indie New York City Drug Drama 'White Girl'

First Red Band Trailer for Indie New York City Drug Drama 'White Girl'

    White Girl Trailer

FilmRise has debuted a new trailer for an indie called White Girl, which premiered at the Sundance Film Festival this year, the first feature from director Elizabeth Wood. In the film, Morgan Saylor stars as a “white girl” who falls for a guy and desperately tries to keep him in her life. The cast includes Brian Marc, Justin Bartha, Adrian Martinez, India Menuez, Anthony Ramos and Chris Noth. This trailer is red band because it shows how wild this film is – tons of drug use, lots of sex in a story about a young woman trying to figure out who she is. I didn’t hear many positive things about this, only that there’s lots of drugs. ›››
