Jackie Chan & Johnny Knoxville in Action Comedy 'Skiptrace' Trailer

    Skiptrace Trailer

Saban Films has debuted the official trailer for an action comedy called Skiptrace, starring Jackie Chan and Johnny Knoxville as the comedy duo. I thought Jackie Chan was done making these kind of movies? I guess not. Chan plays Hong Kong detective Benny Chan who reluctantly joins forces with American gambler Connor Watts to take down the drug lord who murdered his partner. This definitely looks cheesy, there’s no doubt about that, but hopefully some of the action is entertaining otherwise what’s the point of even making these kind of movies anymore. The full cast includes Fan Bingbing, Eric Tsang, Eve Torres, Winston Chao and Michael Wong. I’m not even sure if this is worth seeking out at all, but give it a shot to start. ›››

The Girl on the Train Trailer

Universal has debuted a new trailer for the adaptation of the book The Girl on the Train, starring Emily Blunt as “the girl on the train”. Blunt plays Rachel, a woman living her life after divorce, taking the train every day to and from work. One day watching a family a few houses down from where her ex-husband lives, she notices something weird. The next day Rachel wakes up and hears that another woman went missing and becomes invested in trying to find out what happened to Megan, where she went, and what exactly she herself was up to that same night Megan went missing. The ensemble cast includes Haley Bennett, Luke Evans, Rebecca Ferguson, Laura Prepon, Edgar Ramírez, Allison Janney, Justin Theroux and Lisa Kudrow. This is an improvement over the first trailer, but I’m still not sure it’ll be any good. Enjoy. ›››

  • Second Trailer for Antoine Fuqua's 'The Magnificent Seven' Remake

Second Trailer for Antoine Fuqua's 'The Magnificent Seven' Remake

    The Magnificent Seven Trailer

“What a bunch of misfits we are.” Sony Pictures has unveiled the second official, full theatrical trailer for The Magnificent Seven, Antoine Fuqua’s remake of the action western of the same name (which was originally a reinvention of Kurosawa’s Seven Samurai). The new “seven” who come together to defend a town are: Denzel Washington, Chris Pratt, Ethan Hawke, Vincent D’Onofrio, Byung-Hun Lee, Manuel Garcia-Rulfo and Martin Sensmeier. The villain is played by Peter Sarsgaard; also featuring Haley Bennett, Vinnie Jones and Cam Gigandet. The first teaser trailer was actually pretty good, and this new trailer ups the ante with plenty of wild west action and sly glances from nearly the entire cast. I also dig the introductions to each of the new seven. Feels weird to say, but this doesn’t look so bad. Fire this up! ›››

    Shelley Trailer

“Would you consider carrying my child?” IFC Films has unveiled a trailer for a psychological horror film called Shelley, about a woman who convinces her maid to get pregnant since she can’t but there’s obviously a dark side to the story. The baby seems to be growing faster than usual and their seems to be a creepy evil something growing inside of her. This premiered at the Berlin Film Festival, and is playing at Fantasia this month. Starring Ellen Dorrit Petersen, Cosmina Stratan, Peter Christoffersen, Bjorn Andresen, and Marianne Mortensen. There have been a many baby-related horror films (from Rosemary’s Baby to Proxy recently to Species II) but this one seems to be particularly unsettling. If you’re into this, take a look. ›››

    Kickboxer: Vengeance Trailer

“No rules, no refs, and the chance to be remembered for a lifetime…” RLJ Entertainment has debuted the first official trailer for the new remake of the original 1989 Kickboxer action classic, this one retitled to Kickboxer: Vengeance. Believe it or not, they actually got Jean-Claude Van Damme to come back (as a trainer), and the rest of the cast isn’t so bad either. Canadian stuntman Alain Moussi plays the new young kickboxing hot shot, and he goes to battle against Dave Bautista as a guy named Tong Po. The cast also includes Gina Carano, Georges St-Pierre, Cain Velasquez, Fabricio Werdum, Matthew Ziff and Darren Shahlavi, among others. I don’t have that many good things to say about this, as it’s probably better to just watch the original Kickboxer instead, but maybe some people will be entertained. Have fun. ›››

  • Full US Trailer for Spanish Bank Robbery Film 'To Steal from a Thief'

Full US Trailer for Spanish Bank Robbery Film 'To Steal from a Thief'

    To Steal from a Thief

“Find out what they know or what they suspect?” This looks pretty cool. An official US trailer has debuted online for a Spanish crime film called To Steal from a Thief (originally Cien años de perdón in Spain), which is a tricky little thriller about a coordinated bank robbery that goes awry. On a rainy morning in Valencia, six armed men in disguise try to rob a bank, but they’re really after the contents of safety deposit box 314, which actually doesn’t contain what they think it does. Not only that, but the government wants to stop them and the rainwater floods their escape route. Starring Luis Tosar, Rodrigo De la Serna, Raul Arevalo, Marian Alvarez and Jose Coronado. The masks aren’t the most inventive, but the rest of the film seems like it has some sneaky twists and turns. I really want to check this out. See for yourself below. ›››

Watch: Another Outstanding Short Film Called 'Tergo' About a Robot

    Tergo Short Film

“Sometimes to work out what is beautiful about life it can only be solved by someone who exists to work.” Another outstanding must-see short film debuted online this week. This one is titled Tergo, directed by Charles Willcocks, founder of the London filmmaking collective known as Pallas Pictures. They’ve made an impressive little film about a robot named Tergo that cleans up “after you and me.” It’s set in London and is about how a robot that cleans up the garbage everyone leaves seems to have more humanity than anyone else. It’s simple and effective, and I like the rickety robot character, though I wish we got to see more of him working around the city. This could’ve been much longer and I would’ve kept watching and still enjoyed it. ›››

During the panel, a new poster (with the Death Star) and a making-of featurette were revealed and oh my are they awesome. Felicity Jones stars as Jyn Erso, along with Ben Mendelsohn, Mads Mikkelsen, Alan Tudyk, Riz Ahmed, Donnie Yen, Diego Luna and Forest Whitaker. Review: 'Ghostbusters' Passes the Proton Pack to the Next Generation

    Ghostbusters

The original Ghostbusters from 1984 captured the imagination of a generation in a way few films do. As a kid, I was obsessed with the spooky-but-silly world director Ivan Reitman and writers Dan Aykroyd and Harold Ramis created. I watched The Real Ghostbusters cartoon religiously, had Ghostbusters-themed birthdays, and experienced a memorable Christmas in which Santa left Slimer, The Stay-Puft Marshmallow Man, the Fire House Headquarters, and Ecto-1 under the tree. I idolized Peter Venkman and Egon Spengler and spent entire days busting ghosts with my proton pack, ghost trap, Ecto-Goggles, and PKE meter. For “Ghostheads” — diehard fans of the franchise — Ghostbusters was their childhood. But even though I have many fond memories of my time with the boys in gray, I would never consider myself among them. ›››

Hailee Steinfeld in Red Band Trailer for Comedy 'The Edge of Seventeen'

    The Edge of Seventeen Trailer

“Life’s about taking risks, don’t be afraid to put yourself out there.” STX Entertainment has debuted the first red band trailer for Kelly Fremon’s The Edge of Seventeen, a new coming-of-age comedy starring Hailee Steinfeld that is in the vein of Sixteen Candles and The Breakfast Club. This film seems different than most teen comedies nowadays, described as an “honest, candid, often hilarious look at what it’s like to grow up as a young woman in today’s modern world.” The full cast includes Woody Harrelson, Kyra Sedgwick, Haley Lu Richardson, Blake Jenner, Hayden Szeto. I’m impressed they started out with a red band trailer, but it’s not too raunchy. This has some amusing moments but it mostly looks like good fun. ›››
