'Rebellions Are Built on Hope' – First TV Spot for 'Rogue One' Debuts

    Rogue One TV Spot

“This is your chance to make a real difference.” Lucasfilm + Disney have revealed the first 30-second TV spot for Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, directed by Gareth Edwards, the upcoming Star Wars solo spin-off movie arriving in theaters in December. There’s just about one month left to go until this opens and it looks totally spectacular. I’m very excited to see it, I still have high hopes, and I especially can’t wait to meet this team of heroes – every one of them looks like they bring something unique and inspiring to the team. I’m still partial to Donnie Yen as Chirrut Îmwe (and Jyn Erso), but they all seem awesome. Starring Felicity Jones as Jyn Erso, as well as Mads Mikkelsen, Ben Mendelsohn, Forest Whitaker, Diego Luna, Jonathan Aris, Riz Ahmed & Alan Tudyk as K-2SO. Join the rebellion this December. Enjoy. ›››

  • Watch: Outstanding Sci-Fi Short 'Echo Torch' Reveals a Hidden World

Watch: Outstanding Sci-Fi Short 'Echo Torch' Reveals a Hidden World

    Echo Torch Short Film

Another wicked cool short film discovery – another one you must watch. Echo Torch is a sci-fi short about an inventor who builds an “electrical torch that reveals a hidden world layered upon our own.” The concept itself is quite unique, and I love the visuals – you can see the cool blue torch on the poster, but to actually see it work so flawlessly in this short is wonderful. Echo Torch is directed by Chris Preksta, starring James Fitzgerald as the torchbearer. This has an awesome old school vibe to it, almost like Ghostbusters, and the VFX work is magnificent – making it that much more believable. I also appreciate how the film doesn’t rely on dialogue, only just silence and great sound design. There’s also a beautiful story bringing it all together. ›››

  • Review: 'Doctor Strange' is a Perfectly Weird Entry in Marvel's Universe

Review: 'Doctor Strange' is a Perfectly Weird Entry in Marvel's Universe

    Doctor Strange

We were bound to hit a lull in the excitement that comes from Marvel movies, especially the origin story part of the deal. That natural – and vital – aspect to the expansion of the Marvel Cinematic Universe has been played out up, down, and all over the place to the point we find ourselves craving something, anything outside the norm. Thank God for Doctor Strange, that atypical, origin story for which we’ve been waiting. Sure, it delivers on the excitement and humorous fun we’ve all come to expect, but under the direction of Scott Derrickson, the Marvel superhero who deals in mysticism and the strange, otherworldly creatures knocking on the door to our plane of existence comes alive with unexpected and surprisingly fresh results. ›››

Watch: Another Funny Trailer for Chris McKay's 'LEGO Batman Movie'

    The LEGO Batman Movie Trailer

“I am fighting a few different people… I like to fight around.” Warner Bros has debuted the new trailer for The LEGO Batman Movie, to follow up the most recent trailer released at Comic-Con this summer. And this trailer might just be the best yet. This sequel to The LEGO Movie from 2014 focuses purely on Batman, obviously, and his various cohorts and associates and villains – including The Joker. The voice cast includes Will Arnett back as Batman / Bruce Wayne, with Ralph Fiennes as Alfred, Mariah Carey, Rosario Dawson as Batgirl, Michael Cera as Robin, Zach Galifianakis as The Joker. This looks like totally goofy fun. It seems to have the spirit of the first LEGO Movie and the absurdity of Batman mashed up perfectly. ›››

  • First Trailer for Navy SEALs Thriller 'Renegades', Formerly 'The Lake'

First Trailer for Navy SEALs Thriller 'Renegades', Formerly 'The Lake'

    Renegades

“We’re talking about a major unauthorized operation.” EuropaCorp USA has revealed a trailer for an action heist thriller titled Renegades, formerly known as The Lake. The film tells the sort-of true story of a team of Navy SEALs who try to find long-lost Nazi gold at the bottom in a lake during the Bosnian War in the 90s. The film’s cast includes J.K. Simmons, as well as Sullivan Stapleton, Ewen Bremner, Sylvia Hoeks, Diarmaid Murtagh, Charlie Bewley, Clemens Schick and Dimitri Leonidas. I enjoy the way they’re selling this as a heist movie, but it’s also one helluva gnarly trailer with some serious action scenes. Dive in. ›››

Watch: Tricky Sci-Fi Short Film 'Augmented' Directed by Ross Peacock

    Augmented Short Film

“Is that how you usually pick up women? By offering them a free makeover?” I really enjoyed this unique sci-fi short film. Augmented is a new short directed by Ross Peacock, produced by Ben Mortimer, telling a story set in the near future about augmented reality technology. This is one of those shorts that is best to watch without knowing much about it going in. The way it plays out and the tricks it plays are part of the experience. You may see what’s coming at some point during this, but it is still an impressive short. It’s simple, but works well, and it definitely got my attention due to the simplicity. Good performances from the cast. Better than most shorts that I come across, to be honest. It’s worth a quick watch – check it out below. ›››

  • Watch: Short Trailer for Restored Version of 'Suspiria' Opening in Italy

Watch: Short Trailer for Restored Version of 'Suspiria' Opening in Italy

    Suspiria Trailer

“Do you know anything about witches?” Even though it’s no longer October, that doesn’t mean you can’t still appreciate great horror movies. Dario Argento’s Suspiria is one of the best horror films ever made, a hyper-stylized thriller about a dancer who discovers her ballet school in Germany is actually a coven of evil witches. There is already a remake in the works, which we’ll ignore for now, but in the meantime Italy has restored the film for its 40th anniversary. Suspiria is being re-released in 4K in Italy starting next January for a couple of days. There’s a short new trailer for the restored version to watch below, but I’m just happy to hear this is getting a re-release. Maybe it’ll hit US theaters sometime in 2017 before the remake comes out? We can only hope. For now, we just have to be jealous of all the moviegoers in Italy who get to see this. ›››

  • Woody Harrelson is Wilson in First Trailer for Indie Comedy 'Wilson'

Woody Harrelson is Wilson in First Trailer for Indie Comedy 'Wilson'

    Wilson Trailer

“Can’t you see that this woman is having a profound moment?” Fox Searchlight has debuted an official red band trailer for the indie comedy Wilson, starring Woody Harrelson as the title character Wilson. He plays a “lonely, neurotic and hilariously honest middle-aged man reunites with his estranged wife and meets his teenage daughter for the first time.” The full cast includes Laura Dern, Judy Greer, Cheryl Hines, Shaun Brown, David Warshofsky and Isabella Amara. This is made by the same guy who made The Skeleton Twins, which is a fantastic little indie film. This looks like a lot of fun, and Woody Harrelson is a great actor and it’s always fun to see him playing around with unique roles like this. Looking forward to it. ›››

  • Second Trailer for Totally Nuts X-Mas Comedy 'Office Christmas Party'

Second Trailer for Totally Nuts X-Mas Comedy 'Office Christmas Party'

    Office Christmas Party Trailer

“Light the candle.” Get ready to party like you’ve never partied before! Paramount has revealed the second trailer for the comedy Office Christmas Party, about one totally nuts Christmas party that gets way out of hand (see the first trailer here). It’s about, as expected, one company’s holiday party that goes a little too far – if that title wasn’t blatant enough. T.J. Miller is the main instigator, with an ensemble cast including Jennifer Aniston, Jason Bateman, Vanessa Bayer, Jillian Bell, Jamie Chung, Rob Corddry, Abbey Lee, Kate McKinnon, Olivia Munn, Karan Soni and Matt Walsh. I’m not sure if this is going to be any good, but it’s going to be totally insane, that’s for sure. Maybe this is what we all need. Have fun. ›››

Emma Stone & Ryan Gosling Dream Big in Third 'La La Land' Trailer

    La La Land Trailer

“This is the dream! It’s conflict, and it’s compromise, and it’s very very exciting.” Lionsgate has unveiled a third trailer for the musical sensation La La Land, directed by Whiplash director Damien Chazelle, easily one of the best movies all year. I totally and completely LOVE this movie so much, just wait until you get to see it yourself. I want need the soundtrack playing on repeat. La La Land stars Emma Stone as an aspiring actress who falls for a jazz pianist, played by Ryan Gosling, while living in Los Angeles. We’ve already seen two fantastic teasers for this movie already, but this full trailer takes the cake, and really shows how wonderful and exciting and full of love and hope and romance this movie is. I wrote in my review that it’s “musical perfection, an exhilarating and emotional voyage through time, deep into music and cinema.” ›››
