  • World of Warcraft's Big 7.1 Update Comes Out This Month, Watch Developer Q&A Here

World of Warcraft‘s 7.1 patch, called Return to Karazhan, will arrive on October 25, Blizzard Entertainment has announced.

This patch, which was announced all the way back in August–before Legion even came out–brings back the titular area as a five-player dungeon with nine bosses. Additionally, the patch introduces a small raid amidst The Emerald Nightmare and The Nighthold that’s supposed to bring the Stormheim story to an end. Patch 7.1 also includes outdoor Suramar content that’s part of the Nightfallen story.

Though the patch isn’t officially out yet, you can try it right now on World of Warcraft’s PTR. Check out the video above to see a preview of Return to Karazhan’s content.

You can also watch the video below to see World of Warcraft’s new director, Ion Hazzikostas, answer questions about the patch. Hazzikostas was named World of Warcraft’s new director this week, replacing Tom Chilton, who is moving to a mysterious new project within Blizzard.

World of Warcraft’s newest expansion, Legion, came out at the end of August. It sold 3.3 million copies in its first 24 hours, matching the record set by previous expansions, including 2010’s Cataclysm.

For more on Legion, check out GameSpot’s review and what other critics are saying.

  • Watch Maroon 5's Crazy Pokemon Go-Inspired Music Video

The band Maroon 5 debuted a new song this week, “Don’t Wanna Know,” and have also released a Pokemon Go-themed music video for it.

In the video, we see lead signer Adam Levine living out his life–driving a convertible, drinking booze, etc.–dressed up as a Pokemon. He, along with other celebrities like Sarah Silverman and Ed Helms, are being chased around by smartphone-wielding Pokemon Go players. It’s all very strange. Watch it below.

Wedding Crashers director David Dobkin directed this video. One of that movie’s stars, Vince Vaughn, shows up in the music video’s final scene sitting at a bar with Levine.

Pokemon Go is a worldwide phenomenon, as it’s passed 500 million downloads and set a new app store record. Though player figures may be dropping, the game still reportedly brings in $2 million every day.

In other news, a new update for Pokemon Go on iOS and Android this week added a new catch bonus feature and made some tweaks to how Gym training works. You can read more about the changes here.

  • Make A Halo Pumpkin Carving With These 11 Stencils

Make A Halo Pumpkin Carving With These 11 Stencils

With Halloween right around the corner, you might be thinking about carving a pumpkin. If you want to try your hand at a Halo design, 343 Industries has now released a number of stencils to help you out.

The developer posted 11 stencils on its blog, ranging in difficulty from Easy to Legendary. Some of the designs are for Halo items like the energy sword, Master Chief’s helmet, the UNSC logo, and a Guardian. That last one is listed as being of the Legendary difficulty variety–and it certainly looks like it.

Check out all the stencils in the blog post or in the image gallery above. Print them out and then apply to your pumpkin to get started. You can then post your creation on Twitter using the hashtag #HaloLantern for a chance to have it featured in an upcoming post by 343. #HaloLantern is the same hashtag that the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim used in the past for their own pumpkin-carving promotion.

Last year, someone made a frightfully good Halo pumpkin carving that depicted the Master Chief vs. Locke showdown that was the focus of Halo 5’s story.

When gutting your pumpkin, you can save the seeds and easily roast them for a very tasty snack.

Keep checking back with GameSpot for more in the days ahead on how video games are celebrating Halloween. For now, check out the stories below.

Awesome Art Picks: Spider-Gwen, Death of the Endless, Iron Fist, and More

Each week we search and gather up the coolest comic book art you won’t see in actual comics. The reason you won’t is because professional artists often draw sketches for fun or commissions and post them on their websites, blogs, and Tumblrs. Some artists even arrange commissions through their sites so be sure to check them out. This is a way to see the artists working on one book draw characters from other comics or publishers.

  • Stranger Things Season 2 Adds New Cast Members

Stranger Things Season 2 Adds New Cast Members

Stranger Things Season 2 releases next year, and with it come new cast members and characters. Dacre Montgomery, the Red Ranger in next year’s Power Rangers, has joined the cast, alongside Sadie Sink who played Suzanne Ballard in television series American Odyssey.

EW reports that Montgomery plays a character named Billy. He’s the step brother to Ballard’s character, Max, and is described as “hyper-confident and edgy.”

“He steals girlfriends away from their boyfriends, is great at drinking games, and drives a black Camaro,” EW’s description continues. “But lurking under his apparent charisma, is a violent and unpredictable nature.”

Max, on the other hand, is “a tough and confident girl whose appearance, behavior, and pursuits seem more typical of boys than of girls in this era. She has a complicated history and is generally suspicious of those around her.” It’ll be interesting to see how the two characters play off each other and the rest of the cast.

    No Caption Provided

Speaking of the cast, both Joe Keery and Noah Schnapp, who played Steve Harrington and Will Byers respectively, now have full-time regular roles, as opposed to the recurring ones we saw them fill in the first season.

Stranger Things showrunners Matt and Ross Duffer have a rough idea of where the story could go in seasons past the second. However, the two brothers don’t expect the show to run for all that long.

  • Gears of War 4 Xbox One Patch Fixes Hitching Issues

Gears of War 4 developer The Coalition has released an update for the Xbox One version that is said to fix hitching issues. No update was made available for PC, as it did not experience these issues.

“We will have a title update available to address the hitching issues that players have been experiencing in game,” the developer said. “This will help iron out any user still experiencing this that has not done any of the workarounds we posted about the other day.”

The Coalition posted fixes and workarounds for multiple issues, including the hitching, yesterday. It also noted that this update will temporarily disable offline LAN multiplayer between Xbox One and PC until the “next big large title update.” Online cross-play, however, remains untouched and can be played without issue.

GameSpot has confirmed that the 216 MB update is now available.

Gears of War 4 received a score of 7/10 in GameSpot’s review. The game is a Play Anywhere title, so if you buy on one platform, you get access to both.

Tech outlet Digital Foundry analyzed the Xbox One and PC versions and compared them in a video. It found that both are quite good, with the Xbox One stacking up surprisingly well to the PC version.

  • Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare Beta's First Day Plagued With Matchmaking Issues

The first of two beta tests for Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare began today, but for many, the game remains unplayable due to matchmaking issues.

Activision acknowledged the problems on Twitter and said it’s investigating them but provided no timeline for when things would be resolved. A quick look through the account’s replies reveals countless complaints from players reporting they are unable to get into a match. We were planning to livestream it earlier today, only to be unable to get into a game ourselves. Some of those in GameSpot’s office were able to find games, but only briefly.

As this is a beta, problems were to be expected. Frustrating as these would be anyway, they’re arguably worse in this situation because many people preordered the game specifically in order to access the beta.

This weekend’s test is limited to PS4, while next weekend’s will include PS4 and Xbox One players. (There are no plans for a test on PC.) The first beta is scheduled to run until Monday, October 17 at 10 AM PT. There’s no word yet on whether that end time will be pushed back if these problems persist.

We’ll report back as the situation develops.

  • Zelda-Like Oceanhorn Sells 1 Million, Coming to "a Nintendo Console"

Zelda-Like Oceanhorn Sells 1 Million, Coming to "a Nintendo Console"

With the release of Oceanhorn on PS4 and Xbox One last month, publisher FDG Entertainment has announced that the game has sold one million units across all platforms. In addition to the aforementioned consoles, it’s out now on PC, Mac, and iOS devices.

In a press release, FDG revealed that Oceanhorn is set to be ported to Android and “a Nintendo console.” While that could be referring to the upcoming NX, it’s not confirmed. We’ve contacted FDG to clarify which platform it’s speaking about and will update this article as we receive more information.

The Zelda-like adventure game is also on its way to the Vita, which FDG announced on Twitter last month. No release dates were revealed for any of the new platforms.

Oceanhorn developer Cornfox & Bros announced a sequel back in August. Oceanhorn 2: Knights of the Lost Realm utilizes a third-person camera, as opposed to the top-down perspective of the first game. Despite this change, Cornfox said it would be “built upon the same elements that were the heart and soul of the first Oceanhorn game: exploring a colorful world, a deep backstory with secrets and twists, amazing music, and most importantly, classic action-RPG gameplay with items, puzzles, battles, and badass bosses.”

  • New Report Reveals Details on Sony's Smartphone Game Plans

New Report Reveals Details on Sony's Smartphone Game Plans

According to a new report, Sony will launch “five or more” smartphone games in 2018 as part of its newly formed mobile gaming division, ForwardWorks. Nikkei reports that these games, which could launch in March 2018, will be “targeted” at Japan and other parts of Asia.

Sony could announce them by the end of the year, the report said (via MCV).

    No Caption Provided

As announced previously, these games may pull from Sony’s library of characters and franchises. Interestingly, Nikkei reports that “some older games that cannot be played on the latest hardware will be revived” for smartphone games. Additionally, “games may be linked to consoles as well,” the report said.

The games, whatever they turn out to be, will be made for iOS and Android devices.

“The company will aim to deliver users with opportunity to casually enjoy full-fledged game titles in the new field of the smart device market,” Sony said in March when it announced the new smartphone game division. The company added that it formed ForwardWorks so as to meet the demands of the “ever-expanding smart device market.”

Sony has only announced that its new smartphone games will be released in Japan and Asia, though the company has not ruled out bringing them to the west as well.

The smartphone market is nothing new for Sony, as the company’s PlayStation Mobile division has already launched titles like Run Sackboy Run and Ratchet & Clank: Before the Nexus.

Nintendo also has big plans for the smartphone market. Its first game, Miitomo, came out earlier this year, while Super Mario Run is scheduled to arrive in December. Fire Emblem and Animal Crossing smartphone games are also on the way.
