  • Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 Trailer Reveals Baby Groot in Action & Starlord's Secret

Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 lands in theaters next year. The first teaser was released back in October, but a second has arrived. James Gunn unveiled the trailer today at Comic Con Experience 2016 in São Paulo, Brazil.

While the first teaser gave a small taste of what Baby Groot’s role would be, the second shows what he is fully capable of.

The movie deals with the Guardians traveling the cosmos together while trying to unravel the mysteries of Peter Quill’s true parentage. It’s mentioned that “old foes become new allies” in the official synopsis. This likely refers to Yondu. Although, it could mean we’ll see the Collector helping out the Guardians despite his place getting destroyed in the first film.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 opens May 5, 2017.

Telltale Games also confirmed the rumor that they were working on a video game based on the characters and released a trailer at during The Game Awards 2016.

  • In The Last of Us: Part 2, You Play as Ellie

The newly revealed sequel to The Last of Us will put you in the shoes of Ellie, rather than Joel, Naughty Dog revealed today.

A PlayStation Experience panel this afternoon began with a reairing of the trailer for The Last of Us: Part II that debuted earlier today (watch it above). The video ends with Ellie vowing to find and kill everyone, though it’s unclear who it is she plans to target. Creative director Neil Druckmann was asked about the identity of those people, a subject he avoided addressing directly. He did, however, state that Ellie will be the playable character in Part II, as was the case in The Last of Us DLC expansion Left Behind.

Beyond that, there was little shared about what will be changed in terms of gameplay. Druckmann noted Ellie “plays different[ly]” than Joel but didn’t elaborate.

Further contrasting the two games, Druckmann said the first was about the love between Joel and Ellie. He describes Part II as being the “counter,” saying it’s “about hate and how we use all of those same things to make the player feel that.”

Druckmann also confirmed Gustavo Santaolalla, the composer of the first game, is returning for Part II.

The panel is ongoing, but we’ll have more as it’s shared. A date hasn’t been shared for Part II yet, though Druckmann described it as being a “ways off” earlier today.

  • Kojima Partnering With Killzone, Horizon Dev Guerrilla for Death Stranding

Kojima Productions is collaborating with Guerrilla Games on the development of Death Stranding and will use Guerilla’s Decima engine, it was announced today.

The news was shared during a Death Stranding panel at PlayStation Experience. After discussing the latest trailer (below), Kojima was joined on stage by Guerrilla’s Hermen Hulst and Sony’s Mark Cerny. Cerny discussed the trip he and Kojima took in meeting various developers when trying to find the right technology for Death Stranding.

“Unfortunately, Kojima-san needed to leave his technology with his former employee,” Cerny said, referencing Konami, which elicited boos from the crowd. “So we went on a quest to find an engine for his game.”

Kojima ultimately settled on Decima, which is the engine used to power all of Guerrilla’s games, including the upcoming Horizon: Zero Dawn. Hulst noted it’s taken a “quantum leap” forward in the past few years to get it ready for this project. Kojima added that he “had a very good feeling” about Guerrilla after meeting with the team.

There was a reference to the engine’s ability to handle an open-world game, though that doesn’t necessarily indicate Death Stranding will be open-world. Kojima also confirmed the second trailer was running in real-time on a PS4 Pro.

Other details of note include the fact that there will be female characters in the game, though Kojima isn’t prepared to reveal them yet. He also shared that the character played by Mads Mikkelsen in the second trailer is Death Stranding’s antagonist. Additionally, a limited-edition vinyl will be released featuring the music from the E3 trailer, as well as the track featured in a special version of the second trailer shown during today’s panel.

The panel is ongoing; we’ll update this story with any other information Kojima and company share. For a roundup of everything else announced at PSX, check out our roundup of all the news and trailers.

  • Next Halo 5 DLC Adds New Multiplayer Announcers and Lot More, Coming Very Soon

Next Halo 5 DLC Adds New Multiplayer Announcers and Lot More, Coming Very Soon

More than a year after its release in October 2015, Microsoft’s Halo 5: Guardians continues to receive new DLC. In 343’s latest weekly blog post, the developer said the game’s next wave of add-on content is coming out very soon, saying its launch is “imminent.” We already knew it would include more Warzone maps and Forge canvases, but now we know some of what else it will have.

One part of the DLC that sounds really cool is the “Voices of War” Req pack, which adds three new multiplayer announcers to the game for Warzone, Warzone Firefight, and Arena. The announcers include Spartan Buck, Yabda the Merciless, and 031 Exuberant Witness. Actor Nathan Fillion voices Buck in the Halo games, so we sure hope he’s been enlisted for the DLC.

Unlike the rest of the new Halo 5 DLC, the Voices of War Req pack is not free; it costs $10, which gets you all three announcers. 343 didn’t say if announcers will be sold individually. And of course, this add-on is entirely optional and doesn’t change the gameplay.

You can listen to clips from the three announcers through the links below.

In terms of free content, Halo 5’s next update adds “new features, a massive expansion to Forge, and of course many sweet Reqs.” Some of this content was teased in a trailer released in November.

One of the new Reqs is the Reach Grenade Launcher; here’s what it looks like:

Finally, 343 teased that the new Halo 5 DLC for Xbox One and PC will be released “in a matter of days,” suggesting the content will arrive this coming week. Specifically, 343 said to expect the first reveal for the new DLC to take place this coming Tuesday, December 6.

In other Halo 5 news, a Super Fiesta playlists has been added to the multiplayer hopper.

  • Amy Schumer in Talks to Star in New "Barbie" Movie

Amy Schumer in Talks to Star in New "Barbie" Movie

The upcoming Barbie movie might have found its star. Sources told Variety today that Amy Schumer is in “early talks” to play the lead in the Sony-produced live-action Barbie movie.

    No Caption Provided

The report also claims that Schumer and her sister, Kim Caramele, will write a new script, taking over for original writer Hilary Winston. For her part, Winston said on Twitter that the news is “not official,” though she added that she had Schumer in mind for the role.

According to Variety, the story is along the lines of Enchanted and Big, in that the main character finds herself kicked out of Barbieland and thrust into the real world. It’s expected to open in summer 2018.

Schumer wrote and starred in the 2015 Judd Apatow comedy Trainwreck.

Barbie is one of the best-known toys on the planet. A Game Developer Barbie toy was released earlier this year, as 2016’s “Career of the Year” model.

  • Watch New Star Wars: Rogue One Clip and an Extended Q&A With Director and Stars

For the second time this week, Lucasfilm has released a new clip from next month’s Star Wars: Rogue One. In this new clip, we see Cassian Andor (Diego Luna) and Jyn Erso (Felicity Jones) talking about her blaster, while the new robot character K-2SO, who is played by Alan Tudyk, also makes an appearance. Don’t be alarmed by the audience chatter at the start; the clip is from a late night show (via Collider).

Rogue One is set before the original Star Wars, and focuses on a group of mercenaries who are hired to steal the plans to the Death Star. It is directed by Godzilla‘s Gareth Edwards and also stars Riz Ahmed, Donnie Yen, Ben Mendelsohn, Forest Whitaker, and Mads Mikkelsen.

Edwards and the film’s stars also took part in a live Q&A today–check it out below.

Advance tickets for Rogue One went on sale on Monday. Variety is reporting that the movie has netted the second-highest first day of pre-sales in US box office history.

Box office estimates peg it at making $130 million or more for its December 16-18 opening weekend in the US. That would be the second-biggest December US opening ever, behind only 2015’s Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

Titanfall 2's Most Popular Titans and More Revealed

Respawn Entertainment has released a new infographic for Titanfall 2 that reveals a number of key multiplayer statistics from the game’s first month.

Among the stats is a rundown of the most popular Titans, presumably by playtime. In order, they are Tone, Ion, and Legion. The infographic also reveals that players have racked up the most kills with the R-201 Carbine rifle, followed by the CAR and the Hemlock. We also learn that 114 million Titans have been dropped, while Pilots have traveled 146 million KM, which is about the same as the distance from the Earth to the Sun. Check out the infographic below to learn more.

  • Latest Assassin's Creed Movie Clip Delivers Thrilling Desert Action

A new clip has been released from the adaptation of the Assassin’s Creed game series. Unlike the one revealed last week, this is an action-packed scene involving swords, whips, horses, and a thrilling desert chase. Check it out below:

Another Assassin’s Creed video was released this week, focusing on the virtual reality time travel machines the Animus. Titled “The Science of the Animus,” it shows stars Michael Fassbender and Marion Cotillard talking about how the machines work and why they think it’s cool. Watch it here.

Assassin’s Creed is directed by Justin Kurzel (Macbeth), and also stars Jeremy Irons, Brendan Gleeson, and Michael Kenneth Williams.

In a recent interview with Empire, Fassbender spoke about playing a darker, more ambiguous lead role. “It’s not like Star Wars, where you’ve got the light side and the dark side,” he said. “This is very ambiguous morally. Both of these parties–the Templars and the Assassins–are hypocritical at certain points. There are not clear-cut good and bad characters.

“I think it’s a little more provocative for an audience to see that. You know, ‘Should I be feeling that? Should I be backing this character?’ That’s always fun.”

Assassin’s Creed hits theaters on December 21, 2016.
