  • GTA 5 Owner Has Licensed "A Couple Of Titles" For Movie Adaptations

Grand Theft Auto V parent company Take-Two may be heading into the movie business soon.

The company’s CEO, Strauss Zelnick, told MCV, “We have licensed a couple of titles for motion picture production and we don’t have much more to say about that yet.”

Take-Two won’t be using its own money to produce the films, however. “We are certainly not going to use our own balance sheet to invest in motion pictures and TV,” Zelnick went on to say. “If other people want to license them and we can retain creative control, we are open-minded. The track record of the conversion of video game IP to motion pictures is spotty at best.”

It is unclear which IPs Take-Two has licensed. As well as Grand Theft Auto, the company owns other Rockstar properties like Red Dead Redemption and 2K brands such as Borderlands and Bioshock. In 2013, Take-Two said adapting a game into a movie could be a “risk.”

Recent video game movie adaptations include Assassin’s Creed, which starred Michael Fassbender, and Resident Evil: The Final Chapter, which coincided with the release of the latest Resident Evil game, Biohazard. Skylanders is another property that has been adapted for screen, this time in the form of a Netflix TV series called Skylanders Academy. For more, take a look at this list of 18 video game films currently in production.

Take-Two recently published its financial results for the quarter ending December 31. It announced that GTA V has shipped 75 million copies. The company went on to talk a little bit about Red Dead Redemption 2find out what it said here.

  • Super Troopers 2 Is One Step Closer To Coming Out

Super Troopers 2, the sequel to the 2001 cult hit comedy starring a team of mostly incompetent Vermont state troopers, is getting closer to release. Director Jay Chandrasekhar announced on Twitter that the final day of shooting was on February 9 and said a release date should be announced soon.

Here is a picture of Chandrasekhar, who directed the original and the sequel, standing alongside actor Steve Lemme, who returns in the role of MacIntyre “Mac” Womack:

    — Jay Chandrasekhar (@jaychandrasekha) February 9, 2017

Super Troopers 2 was partially funded on Indiegogo, where it raised more than $4.5 million back in 2015. The first film had a budget of $3 million and ended up bringing in more than $23 million, according to Box Office Mojo. We can only imagine what hijinks might be in store for the sequel with its expanded budget.

Eric Stolhanske, who plays Robert “Rabbit” Roto shared his own picture on Twitter as well to celebrate the last day of shooting. You can see that image at the bottom of this post.

The main cast from the original is returning for the sequel. Actor Rob Lowe (West Wing, Parks and Recreation) is among the new cast members.

Chandrasekhar and the main cast are part of the comedy troupe Broken Lizard. They also made the movies Beerfest, Club Dread, and Slammin’ Salmon.

  • New Overwatch PTR Update Details Roadhog, Winston Changes

Blizzard has detailed new Overwatch balance changes coming to the public test realm “soon.” The characters being tweaked are Roadhog and Winston.

As detailed on the game’s forum, Roadhog’s changes overall “reduce the power of his hook a bit.” However, his gun is now “more effective when not using the hook.” Additionally, Winston’s “head hit volume was just abnormally big,” which meant he was taking more damage than he should have been. Blizzard has made adjustments to remedy this.

Take a look at the list of changes below.

    Roadhog

    • Scrap Gun
      • Spread decreased by 20 percent
    • Chain Hook
      • Targets are now pulled to a location 3.5 meters away, up from 2 meters
      • Cooldown increased from 6 to 8

    Winston

    • Critical hit volume reduced by 15 percent

Blizzard recently discussed upcoming changes it is making to Bastion, a hero that was considered to be dramatically overpowered when the game first launched but is used very little now due to various balance changes. Blizzard hopes to make Bastion a little more self-sufficient by improving his Self-Repair ability. Other heroes including D.Va and Mercy have also been the subject of change, and you can read about them in full here.

Changes are introduced to the public test realm by Blizzard as a means to gather information on how they impact the game and make further adjustments based on feedback, if required. The PTR is only accessible on the PC version of the game. It is available by selecting the PTR: Overwatch option from the Region/Account drop-down menu in the Battle.net client.

On February 9, Activision Blizzard reported earnings for its fourth quarter and full-year ended December 31. As part of this, it was revealed that Blizzard’s monthly active users was 36 million, which is up 37 percent from 2015. For the fourth quarter alone, Blizzard had 41 million monthly active users.

  • Telltale's The Walking Dead Season 3 Episode 3 Coming Soon, Disc Release On The Way

The third season of The Walking Dead will get its latest installment soon, developer Telltale has announced. Episode 3 – Above the Law arrives in March, though no more details have been revealed.

Telltale also confirmed that the physical release of Season 3–which includes the first episode on the disc along with a download code for the rest of the season–will launch on 28 February in North America and March 3 in Europe. An Australian release date was not announced.

The Walking Dead Season 3 – A New Frontier kicked off with a two-part premiere in December 2016, after a small delay from November.

Both Clementine and a new character, Javier, are playable in this third season. They come from different backgrounds but unite in their struggle to protect their loved ones. Executive producer Kevin Boyle previously said, “Javier will begin to unravel the mystery of who Clementine has become, as her story intersects with his–both of them still driven by the things they value most long after society’s collapse.”

The game is playable on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC, and mobile devices. A New Frontier is not available on PlayStation 3 or Xbox 360.

The new season allows you to import saves from Season 2, and you can find out how to do that here if you’re moving between platforms such as from PS3 to PS4. If you’re approaching the new season fresh, then Telltale’s story generator will tell you what kind of survivor you are, filling in your character’s journey so far.

  • New Horizon Zero Dawn Videos Show Off Massive Machine Beasts

One of the coolest parts of Horizon Zero Dawn are the massive, animal-like machines that roam through the world. Today, Sony posted a pair of videos showing off two of these: Thunderjaw and Snapmaw. Check out the videos below, while official descriptions for the beasts follow further down.

Originally scheduled to debut in 2016, Zero Dawn was later delayed to the end of February. It launches in the US on February 28 and in Europe three days later, on March 1.

An action game that features RPG elements, Zero Dawn is a step in a new direction for developer Guerrilla Games, which is perhaps best known for creating the Killzone first-person shooter series. In other news, Guerrilla this week detailed the game’s HUD options and showed off its photo mode.

For more on the game, check out GameSpot’s new preview and this rundown of the game’s full skill tree.

    Snapmaw:

“An acquisition-class machine, the Snapmaw is frequently found basking in or near bodies of water, where it gathers valuable minerals from the sediment. It can move with surprising ferocity when alerted, lashing out with an array of melee attacks that include powerful lunge bites and tail swipes. For ranged attacks, it fires off cryo mortars that freeze the target on impact.”

    Thunderjaw:

“The combat-class Thunderjaw is one of the deadliest machines encountered in Horizon Zero Dawn. A formidable beast equipped with cannons, disc launchers and a mouth laser, its powerful ranged attacks will quickly cut down any hunter foolish enough to alert it. Space permitting, it can also unleash with a devastating range of melee attacks such as charges and tail swipes.”

  • Castlevania TV Show Is "R-Rated As F**K," Similar To Game Of Thrones – Producer

More details have come to light about the recently announced Castlevania show for Netflix. Producer Adi Shankar (who produced The Grey and Dredd) tells IGN that the show is “in the vein” of Game of Thrones and is an adaptation of Castlevania III: Dracula’s Curse.

“This is very much Castlevania done in the vein of Game of Thrones,” Shankar said.

He declined to share more story details. If it follows the game, we can expect to see Trevor Belmont fighting in 1400s Europe. Dracula’s son, Alucard, might show up.

Shankar added that the Castlevania series is going to be “R-rated as f**k,” suggesting it’s going to have a lot of violence and other adult themes potentially.

Writing on Facebook, Shankar said he’s very optimistic about the show’s potential to actually be good. “I personally guarantee that it will end the streak and be the western world’s first good video game adaptation,” he said.

The first season of the untitled Castlevania series will premiere this year. In his Facebook post, Shankar said a second season is coming in 2018, though this was not mentioned in Netflix’s official statement.

Given how long Castlevania has been around–it originally debuted in 1986–there has been surprisingly little in the way of non-game adaptations. Konami hasn’t announced any new games in the series. The most recent, Lords of Shadow 2, came out nearly three years ago. Meanwhile, Koji Igarashi–the man behind the franchise’s most celebrated game, Symphony of the Night–is working on his own spiritual successor, Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night.

NBA Launching Its Own Pro Gaming League With Take-Two

The NBA today announced a partnership with Take-Two to create a professional gaming league dedicated to the popular NBA 2K series. Called the NBA 2K eLeague, it’s described as a “new, professional competitive gaming league that will bring together the best basketball gamers in the world.” According to Take-Two, this is the first officially organized esports league run by a United States pro sports league.

    No Caption Provided

The NBA 2K eLeague will premiere in 2018. There will be teams run by NBA franchises (the Philadelphia Sixers announced their own team in 2016). There will be five pro gamers on each time who will play with user-created avatars instead of with the likenesses of real players. The teams will be announced in the coming months. It’s unclear if all 30 NBA teams will participate.

Just like the real NBA, there will be a regular season, a playoff, and a championship.

“We believe we have a unique opportunity to develop something truly special for our fans and the young and growing esports community,” NBA commissioner Adam Silver said in a statement. “We look forward to combining our best-in-class NBA sports team operators with Take-Two’s competitive gaming expertise to create a brand new league experience.”

Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick added: “We are proud to expand our strong relationship with the NBA and co-create the NBA 2K eLeague. Through the NBA 2K series, which is renowned throughout the world for capturing the authenticity of the NBA and the passion of its fans, we have a proven track record of highly successful collaboration. With this new venture, Take-Two and the NBA aim to fuel the accelerating growth of esports and take the thrill of competition to exciting new heights.”

NBA and Take-Two have been in business together since 1999 for the highly regarded NBA 2K series. The newest entry, NBA 2K17, has shipped almost 7 million units and is on pace to become the company’s best-selling sports game ever. In all, the NBA 2K franchise has sold more than 68 million copies worldwide.
