  • Spider-Man Actor Tom Holland Didn't Consult With Past Spidey Actors

Tom Holland, the newest actor to play Spider-Man, says he did not consult with previous Spider-Man actors such as Tobey MaGuire or Andrew Garfield about the role.

“I wasn’t in touch with them,” Holland told Variety. “They both said some really lovely things about me online. I met Andrew [Garfield] at the BAFTAs the other day. It was cool. He’s such a nice guy and we had a great chat and went our separate ways.”

Also in the interview, Holland talked about the first time he donned the Spidey suit, saying it was “a little bit of a disappointment,” but for a good reason. Because he was cast as Spider-Man after Captain America: Civil War started filming, the production team didn’t have time to make him a suit right away. So he had to wear a modified version of his stunt double’s suit, which was too big.

“So the first time I ever tried it on it was kind of like a saggy, sad Spider-Man,” Holland said.

But when Holland put on his suit, everything changed–for the better.

“The time I tried it on for real and it fit perfectly was one of the most surreal experiences of my life,” Holland said. “It’s been my dream since I was a kid, and the fact that it was coming true before my own eyes was such a crazy feeling. I was just so proud of myself and delighted with how my career had gone and where I was standing.”

Also on the line of the Spider-Man costume, Holland said it can take almost 45 minutes to put it on when the harness is attached underneath. As you can imagine, this presents some problems when nature calls.

“The tricky part is going to the bathroom,” he said. “You have to sort of plan in advance. You have to be like, ‘Look, I think I might need the toilet in 45 minutes, so we have to take this off.’ Obviously it’s a very expensive suit, so you don’t want it just swinging down around your ankles.”

You can read the full interview here at Variety.

The next trailer for this year’s Spider-Man: Homecoming is scheduled to premiere today, March 28. For now, you can watch a teaser right here.

  • The New Jumanji Movie Gets A Title, Video Game Plot Confirmed

Today at CinemaCon in Las Vegas, Sony announced the full title for the upcoming Jumanji sequel. It’ll be called Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle, a title that may make you smile or cringe. Additionally, it was confirmed that the movie has a video game plot.

According to Collider’s Steven Weintraub, who attended the event, star Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson appeared on stage to introduce a trailer that contained action and silly dialogue.

Jumanji is now called Jumanji Welcome to the Jungle. About to watch trailer. @TheRock on stage introducing the footage.

    — Steven Weintraub (@colliderfrosty) March 28, 2017

There is no word yet on when the Welcome to the Jungle trailer will be released to the public. We’ll post the video here on GameSpot when it comes out.

The movie’s storyline will center upon a quartet of high school kids who find themselves drawn into the Jumanji game while in detention. The teens have to clean out the school’s basement as their punishment and while doing so they find an old video game console that has a game called Jumanji on it, according to The Hollywood Reporter. They discover that choosing a character in the game transports them into a jungle as that character.

“One rather nerdy boy is surprised (and rather pleased) to see he’s got the muscles of The Rock,” THR reported. “The popular girl in school is horrified to learn she’s got the body of Jack Black.”

This may explain actress Karen Gillan’s skimpy outfit, as she is a video game character.

It was first announced in April 2016, and it was presumed that it would be a reboot of the much-loved ’90s movie. However, Johnson subsequently revealed that the film would in fact be a sequel.

Jake Kasdan, the son of legendary Star Wars writer Lawrence Kasdan, is directing. The film opens on July 28, 2017.

Welcome to the Jungle actors Jack Black, Nick Jonas, and Karen Gillan broke into song during an appearance at CinemaCon. Here’s the silly video:

Also during CinemaCon today, Sony released some footage from the Stephen King movie The Dark Tower and also showed the second trailer for Spider-Man: Homecoming, while Ryan Gosling appeared on stage to talk about Blade Runner 2049. We’ll circle back with those videos when they are released

  • Spider-Man's Venom Spinoff To Shoot This Fall, Might Be "Horror Sci-Fi"

Spider-Man's Venom Spinoff To Shoot This Fall, Might Be "Horror Sci-Fi"

Earlier this month it was revealed that Sony was moving ahead with a film focusing on Venom, the alien parasite who first appeared Spider-Man comic books. It has now been reported that the movie will start shooting this year.

    No Caption Provided

According to a posting on the industry casting site MyEntertainmentWorld, the Venom movie will enter production in the fall. This is a year ahead of its October 2018 release date. Intriguingly, the site has the movie listed as “action/horror/sci-fi”, implying it might have a slightly different tone to other superhero movies.

It is currently unknown if there will be any connection between the Venom film and this year’s Spider-Man: Homecoming. Sony holds the movie rights to Spider-Man and associated characters, and Marvel had to strike a deal with them to allow Spidey to become part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe for Homecoming and last year’s Captain America: Civil War.

Plans for a Venom movie actually predate the Marvel deal, and the film was originally intended to be part of the ongoing Spider-Man franchise that starred Andrew Garfield. This series ended after just two movies.

The Venom film is set to be directed by Alex Kurtzman, who is helming this summer’s reboot of The Mummy. He is also the co-writer of the first two Star Trek reboot movies, and is producing the upcoming show Star Trek: Discovery.

In related news, two new posters for Spider-Man: Homecoming were revealed at the weekend. Check them out here.

  • Top 10 UK Sales Chart – Mass Effect: Andromeda Ends Ghost Recon's Reign, Debuts At No.1

Mass Effect: Andromeda has shot to No.1 in the UK physical games chart in its debut week, bringing Ghost Recon: Wildlandsreign at the top to an end. Ubisoft’s open-world title drops to No.2 as a result, forcing Lego Worlds down to No.3.

The chain reaction continues below that, as Horizon Zero Dawn dips to No.4 and the evergreen Grand Theft Auto V returns to No.5 (down from No.3 and No.4, respectively).

The remainder of the chart sees little change, week-on-week: The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild holds on to its No.6 spot, while FIFA 17 (No.7), Rocket League (No.8), Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare (No.9), and Forza Horizon 3 (No.10) make up the rest of the top 10.

Finishing at the top in its first week will be some welcome good news for Mass Effect: Andromeda developer BioWare, which has been faced with much fan criticism following some widespread animation issues. Despite these problems, Andromeda was relatively well received by critics.

In our review, critic Scott Butterworth said Andromeda “feels like a vision half-fulfilled.”

“It contains a dizzying amount of content,” he explained, “but the quality fluctuates wildly.” Read more in our full Mass Effect: Andromeda review.

For more on the huge space adventure, check out our two-part documentary series, The Story of Mass Effect: Andromeda, or this week’s episode of Reboot, which looks at the history of science-fiction storytelling, and highlights how the new Mass Effect squanders its potential.

  • Westworld Season 2 Will "F**k With The Metaphysical," Producer Says

Westworld Season 2 Will "F**k With The Metaphysical," Producer Says

Westworld was one of the most intriguing new shows of 2016. Based on the Michael Crichton novel, the HBO series blends sci-fi and Western elements in a very intriguing way. Little is known about the much-anticipated Season 2, but now some high-level details about what to expect have come to light.

Some spoilers for Westworld follow below.

    No Caption Provided

Executive producer Roberto Patino said at the PaleyFest event this weekend that the story will mess with your mind, involving the metaphysical.

“There will be a story, and it will f**k with the metaphysical at some point,” he said, as reported by IGN.

Season 1 contained a lot of memorable mindbending scenes and sequences, so it’s no big surprise that this will continue in Season 2.

At the end of Season 1, it was suggested that Westworld was just one of the places that guests could visit, with another being Samurai World. Asked if there are indeed other worlds in the show’s universe, showrunner Jonathan Nolan said with a chuckle, “That would be cool, wouldn’t it?”

Also during the PaleyFest panel, Nolan confirmed that the character Maeve (Thandie Newton) was acting on her own free will when she decided to abandon her escape plans to instead stay in Westworld to find her daughter. Some believed that this was all part of her programming, but apparently it’s not.

“If you look at her performance in that moment, that is really the first decision she’s ever made. For me, it’s a very emotional moment in the episode because you see her freewill,” Nolan said.

Finally, during the panel Nolan said filming on Season 2 will not begin until the scripts for all the episodes are done. For Season 1, this was not the case, which could be the reason why the show was delayed.

“It was a real lesson for us in the first season,” Nolan said about writing scripts before shooting. “When they say it’s not TV, it’s HBO, they’re not kidding. It’s a 10-hour movie we’re making here. We’re writing right now. We’re terribly excited about what we’re writing.”

Westworld was HBO’s most-watched series ever for its first season, surpassing Game of Thrones. Season 2 is scheduled to premiere this year or next.

  • Project Scorpio: "Critical" For Microsoft's Games To Be Ready For Launch, Spencer Says

Project Scorpio: "Critical" For Microsoft's Games To Be Ready For Launch, Spencer Says

It’s a big year for Xbox, as the company’s new console, Project Scorpio, is slated to arrive this holiday season. All Xbox One games will play on the console, and now, Xbox boss Phil Spencer has stressed that it’s critical that Microsoft’s first-party games be “ready” for the system, presumably for launch.

“Having our [first-party] games ready for Scorpio is critical,” Spencer said on Twitter in response to someone who asked if Scorpio would have any launch games.

    No Caption Provided

It’s not exactly clear what Spencer means by “ready,” though he may be referring to games being updated to support the new power of Project Scorpio. It makes sense that Microsoft would want to have its first-party games updated for the console, given it is the platform-holder.

The Project Scorpio announcement trailer that aired at E3 2016 last summer showed developers from big-name studios like Bethesda and Electronic Arts, so it might be that games from those teams would be updated for Project Scorpio as well.

Also on Twitter, Spencer talked about how he is “very focused” on first-party games. “I’ll be careful about when we announce things but I know strong 1P is critical,” he explained.

In addition to all Xbox One games, Project Scorpio supports all of your existing controllers and accessories. One major question about the console is its price. Microsoft has repeatedly referred to it as a “premium” device that will be more expensive than the Xbox One S, which starts at $300 in the US. Spencer has said that he is sure that Project Scorpio won’t sell as well as Xbox One S.

In other Scorpio news, Microsoft has suggested that it might hold an event before E3 to discuss the console. A product page for the console is up on the Microsoft Store, but you can’t preorder yet.

According to patch notes posted by Gematsu, the big addition in the new update are changes to the much-discussed Chapter 13. As announced previously by game director Hajime Tabata, this mission is changing to address the overall gameplay experience contained within the chapter.

“The direction of chapter 13’s content was a deliberate decision made by the development team,” Tabata said back in February. “That said, the amount of stress inflicted on the player while running through this chapter was greater than we had anticipated. We believe resolving this issue will naturally lead to a better gameplay experience.”

The updates also include fixes for a number of bugs, while the 1.06 update specifically lays the groundwork for the Episode Gladiolus expansion that arrives on March 28. You can read more about this story expansion here.

Final Fantasy XV launched in November 2016 for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in November, going on to ship more than 6 million copies. • StarCraft Remaster Announced, Includes 4K Support And Matchmaking

Blizzard Entertainment today announced an HD version of the classic RTS StarCraft. Called StarCraft: Remastered, the game includes all the content from the base game and the Brood War expansion.

The graphics have been boosted to “4K ultra high definition,” while the audio is upgraded as well. Additionally, new features such as matchmaking have been introduced.

StarCraft is a pure distillation of Blizzard’s DNA–its story, its balance, and all the little details reflect our long-running commitment to epic entertainment, and it’s been a staple in competitive gaming and esports for almost 20 years,” Blizzard CEO Mike Morhaime said in a statement. “With StarCraft: Remastered, we’re modernizing the original game’s visuals, audio, and online support to ensure that players can enjoy StarCraft for another 20 years and beyond.”

In terms of specifics, here is a rundown of what StarCraft: Remastered offers:

    • Widescreen UHD support for up to 4K
    • New illustrations to “enhance storytelling” in the campaign missions
    • “Advanced matchmaking”
    • “Full connectivity” to Blizzard’s online network
    • Cloud saves for campaign progress, custom-made maps, keybinds, and replays
    • Eight new languages in addition to the five that came with the original

“While these improvements will bring StarCraft to the modern era, gameplay and balance have been precisely preserved, for an experience that will feel identical to veteran players,” Blizzard said.

StarCraft: Remastered is in the works for Windows PC and Mac and is slated to come out this summer. Pricing will be announced later.

  • Nintendo Has A "Big E3" Planned, Exec Says

Microsoft isn’t the only platform-holder teasing its E3 2017 plans. Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime told Fox News that Nintendo has “big” things in store for this year’s show.

“E3 is always a big time for Nintendo,” he said (via Nintendo Everything and NeoGAF). “We look at each E3 as a unique opportunity to tell our story. And we’re gonna have a big E3 this year. We’re going to be showcasing a variety of games.”

Watch the latest video at <a href=”http://video.foxnews.com”>video.foxnews.com</a>

While Fils-Aime shied away from offering specifics about Nintendo’s plans, he said Nintendo will have Nintendo Switch and 3DS games on display.

“I’m not gonna tell you all of the various games and all of our little secrets for E3, but I can tell you that E3 is going to be a major opportunity for us to showcase not only Nintendo Switch, but also content coming to Nintendo 3DS,” he said.

Fils-Aime also mentioned the fact that E3 2017, for the first time in the show’s history, is open to the public, though he did not provide any specifics on how Nintendo’s plans might be tailored to that.

Also in the interview, Fils-Aime talked about how it’s not easy to predict where the video game industry is going.

“I think anyone who says they know where this industry is going is really not knowledgeable about the industry, given that at its heart, it’s all about innovation and creativity,” he said.

It’s been a few years since Nintendo has held a traditional E3 briefing, instead opting for offsite Nintendo Direct presentations, as well as Nintendo Treehouse livestreams.

  • Xbox Boss Teases E3 Plans

With E3 2017 still a few months away, Xbox boss Phil Spencer has now spoken out to say that fans can expect Microsoft to dedicate more time to games during the presentation.

Writing on Twitter, Spencer said, “I want to give our games more time on stage at E3. I sometimes feel like we rush telling the story of our games at E3.”

This is not to say that the briefing will be exclusively focused on software. It most certainly won’t be, as Microsoft’s Project Scorpio is coming out this year. However, Spencer’s new comments do lend further credence to the suggestion that Microsoft may hold an event dedicated to Scorpio before E3.

Microsoft’s E3 2017 briefing is slated to take place on the afternoon of Sunday, June 11. This is a change for Microsoft, as the company historically holds its presentation on the Monday of E3 week.
