In the market for a new Xbox One? NewEgg has rolled out a new deal that you may want to consider.
The store’s eBay page (via Slickdeals) is currently offering the 500 GB Battlefield 1 bundle with a copy of Resident Evil 7 for only $250. The bundle alone normally goes for $300, so this is a very good deal. You can place an order here on NewEgg’s eBay store–the price shows up at checkout.
Shipping is free and orders placed today should arrive on or before April 6. One thing to be aware of is that this deal is only good for shoppers in the United States.
For more on the two games included in this bundle package, see GameSpot’s reviews below:
As an April Fool’s Day surprise, Sega today launched an 8-bit version of Bayonetta on the PC gaming service. And it’s completely free. “Jump! Shoot! Score! Being bad never felt so retro,” reads a line from the game’s description. You can download it here on Steam, while a trailer follows below.
Sega is not the only video game company getting in on the April Fool’s Day madness. Check out GameSpot’s roundup here to see how other games are marking the occasion.
The next video game movie has been revealed. Variety reports that a film based on the indie game We Happy Few is coming from Gold Circle Entertainment, which produces the Pitch Perfect films.
It sounds like early days for the We Happy Few movie, as the producers are now looking for writers for the script. There is no word yet on a director or cast.
Compulsion Games’ Guillaume Provost said the film companies came to the developer “with really solid ideas about how to adapt our game to film while retaining its menace, dark humor, and central themes.”
Not an April’s Fools folks. Also these things take years, you will see the game way before the movie comes out.
dj2 Entertainment CEO Dmitri Johnson added: “Our commitment is to make a movie that remains true to the source material, while still surprising fans.”
We Happy Few is tells the story of “a plucky bunch of moderately terrible people trying to escape from a lifetime of cheerful denial.”
The game is set in a “drug-fueled, retrofuturistic” English town in an alternate 1960s at a time where the government has set up a drug-induced happiness for its residents to hide the truth. You play as a rebel who lives illegally outside of the drug’s effects as you try to unravel the mysteries.
The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild continues to offer up new surprises for players who explore the far reaches of Nintendo’s open-world adventure, and the latest is the ability to “ride” the dangerous Guardians scattered through the game.
While you can mount a wide-variety of animals in Breath of Wild simply by sneaking up on them (include Bears and Stags), the Guardian takes a little more preparation and a very special item. As hinted at by various characters on the outskirts of Hyrule Field, you can combine Ancient Guardian parts into some recipes to create powerful concoctions. Although this always results in the useless Dubious Food when you cook the parts alongside regular food, bringing together a Giant Ancient Core and a Fang from each of the game’s powerful dragons–Dinraal, Naydra, and Farosh–will create an Ancient Guardian Key.
The item description for the Key reads: “You’ve distilled the Power, Wisdom, and Courage of Hyrule’s three dragons into a mysterious key. It glows with energy when Ancient Guardians are near, but what could it be used for…?” And as you can guess, when you get close enough to a Guardian with the key in your possession, you’re given a new command prompt: Enter. You can see us catching a ride in a Guardian as well as some tips for collecting each of the Fangs in the video at the top of the story.
Harnessing the destructive power of a Guardian has been one of Breath of the Wild’s better kept secrets, but one aspect of the process that has us curious is the fact that the Ancient Guardian Key is a consumable item. This presents the possibility that it may have other uses somewhere in Hyrule that we haven’t discovered yet. If you’ve found what else the key unlocks, let us know in the comments below!
If you come across any we haven’t included, be sure to let us know in the comments below. We’ll update this post over the weekend as more surface.
Square Enix’s New Tactics Game
Square Enix produced a trailer for a fake game called Tactics Alexander as a spinoff of MMO Final Fantasy XIV. This is somewhat of a cruel gag, as the game actually looks pretty fun.
Turtle Beach Feed Bag
Turtle Beach introduces the Feed Bag, which they dub the “F-Bag.” According the jokey press release, “Attach the F-BAG to any Turtle Beach headset and wrap it securely around the lower half of your face so your piehole is perfectly positioned to feast.”
Yet Another Fire Emblem Game
Nintendo’s Fire Emblem series has not been lacking attention in recent years, which makes the prospect of another game seem pretty reasonable. That is, at least until you check out the specifics and images laid out on this Japanese-language website for the supposed 3DS/Switch game, Fire Emblem: Battle of Revolution.
The newest (fake) innovation from Nvidia is G-Assist, which is essentially an AI player that can take your place in online games or help to give you an edge in difficult boss fights. It’s even supposed to warn you when it’s time to pause and get something to eat or drink, which is like a weird twist on those notifications in Nintendo games telling you to take a break.
A New Street Fighter EX Game
Update: This game could actually be real, and just be a bit of unfortunate timing. According to a post on Neogaf, as translated note from Arika wrote that “the fact that we hid that this was going to be the game played is the joke.” The game above is actually playable and represents an in-development product. It’s a weird joke, but great news that the EX cast may actually be coming back!
World of Tanks’ Mars Mode
In a rare instance of an existing game offering an April Fools’ joke for real, World of Tanks has a limited-time mode called Mars mode. In it, you’ll head to Mars to use lasers and deal with UFOs.
A New Stronghold Card Game
The Stronghold series is (not) expanding with a new collectible card game. Called Stronghold: Drawbridge, Firefly Studios has released the trailer above for the fake game.
Black Desert Online’s Own Whisky
Black Desert Online is marking an anniversary with Black Spirit, its own line of whisky. It’s described as a “blend made from some of Scotland’s rarest and most exceptional whiskies,” offering a sickening mixture of flavors. “Black Spirit is incomparably rich and smoky, with velvety smooth breaking waves of powerful flavor,” the description reads. “Hazelnuts, honey, sherry and oranges tumble in first, before releasing hidden secrets like ginger, kumquats, sandalwood, and dark chocolate. A rich honey sweetness emerges, accompanied by hints of pepper and dried fruits.”
Kartong: Death By Cardboard
The developer of Svrvive: The Deus Helix has another VR game (not really) in the works called Kartong. It falls into the incredibly common “challenging casual/miniature/stealth/adventure/FPS” genre. You can check out a video for it above.
8-Bit Bayonetta
Sega has released a new Steam game called 8-Bit Bayonetta. While a playable joke in and of itself, the game directs fans to a teaser website counting down to something in April. While it might be part of some larger joke, it looks like this apparent April Fools’ gag may lead to a real announcement–such as a PC release of Bayonetta.
StarCraft II Overlord Announcer Pack
If you’re tired of useful announcer packs in StarCraft II, the new Overlord pack should suit your needs nicely. As you can hear in the samples on Blizzard’s website, everything it has to say is completely unintelligible. I’m almost sad that this probably won’t ever be released.
A Nine-Screen Laptop
Online retailer Newegg has unveiled a ridiculous new fake product: Project MEgga, a laptop equipped with nine screens. Aside from the absurdity of that, it comes with such made-up components as an Intel i9-8900x processor and GTX 1280 Ti Ancestor Edition, as well as speakers that feature confetti cannons. It’s available for “preorder” at the discounted price of $29,998, which is .00003% percent off its usual price.
A Shantae Demake
Rather than a remaster project, WayForward has proposed a fake demake of the first Shantae game called Shantae: Demakeified. It’s designed for one-button input, which the developer says adds “a whole new layer of challenge to jumping, attacking, or just walking around.”
According to Deadline, Stallone is bowing out of the franchise that he helped create. The site reports that he and production company Nu Image/Millenium boss Avi Lerner could not agree on several key elements of The Expendables 4, including a director, a script, and “certain qualitative elements,” including which CGI studio would do the effects work.
Deadline reports that Stallone backed away despite the potential of earning an upfront payday of $20 million or more, the biggest of his career. Stallone directed the first Expendables and co-wrote the two sequels.
Speaking to Deadline, Lerner acknowledged “disagreements” with Stallone, but said he’s hopeful that The Expendables 4 will happen.
“We’ve got disagreements with Sly, but we’ve had them for over a year and a half,” he said. “Right now, each one has an opinion. We agreed on 95% of things, but there are certain things in production we don’t agree on. I don’t think it’s over, but write whatever you want. In my opinion, it’s not dead.”
The first Expendables was released in 2010, and made $315 million at the worldwide box office. While the next two parts weren’t as big, they still made $274 million and $214 million respectively.
In 2014, Stallone was critical of the decision to release Expendables 3 with a PG-13 rating rather than the R that the previous movies had carried.
“Absolutely unequivocally yes,” he told Crave Online when asked if the lower rating was a mistake. “I believe it was a horrible miscalculation on everyone’s part in trying to reach a wider audience, but in doing such, diminish the violence that the audience expects. I’m quite certain it won’t happen again.”
The various entries in the Expendables series have featured big-name actors such as Jason Statham, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Dolph Lungren, Jean-Claude Van Damme, Mel Gibson, Terry Crews, Jet Li, and Wesley Snipes, in addition to Stallone.
Legendary ex-footballer Diego Maradona has said he’s suing PES 2017 publisher Konami for using his likeness without his permission.
In a post on his official Facebook page, the ex-Argentina and Barcelona star–considered by many to be the greatest footballer ever–said he “heard yesterday that the Japanese company Konami uses my image for its game PES 2017.”
“My lawyer Matias Morla will initiate the corresponding legal actions,” the statement continues, before concluding, “I hope this is not another scam.”
Maradona’s image is used in PES 2017’s myClub mode, in which players work to build a dream team of both current and ex-pros. GameSpot has contacted Konami for a statement.
As a footballer, Maradona was considered the player of his generation, with a professional career spanning 21 years from 1976 to 1997. He twice broke the world record transfer fee, won countless trophies, and was deemed FIFA’s Player of the Century in 2000.
He later went on to manage his home country in the 2010 World Cup, though he could not guide a strong Argentina team past the quarter-finals.
In other PES 2017 news, Data Pack 3.0 was recently released, introducing visual enhancements for over 100 players, eight classic Borussia Dortmund kits, a bunch of new boot designs, additional pitch-side hoardings, and the new Adidas ball that will be used in the 2016/2017 Champions League final.
We enjoyed the alternative ball-kicking game here at GameSpot; critic Nathan Ditum awarded it an 8/10. For more, check out our full PES 2017 review.
First, the delay is only a week, according to Entertainment Weekly, which broke the story. The Sony movie is now scheduled to come out on August 4, with its original July 28 date now taken by another Sony film, The Emoji Movie.
Another detail is that a Sony representative told EW that it “will not move” the Dark Tower date again. The spokesperson said this latest shift was done to give The EmojiMovie, a film aimed at children, more time in theaters before school starts back up again. Additionally, the site reports that a trailer for The Dark Tower is coming very soon.
The Dark Tower stars Idris Elba as gunslinger Roland Deschain, while Matthew McConaughey is playing demonic sorcerer Walter Padick, aka The Man in Black. The movie is directed by Nikolaj Arcel, who previously helmed the Oscar-nominated A Royal Affair.
The Dark Tower encompasses eight novels, which King published between 1982 and 2012. The books blend classic western themes with horror, sci-fi, and fantasy.
Independent developer Harmonix, known for Rock Band and Dance Central, has enacted a new round of layoffs. A spokesperson for the Boston-based studio confirmed to GI.biz that 17 jobs were cut amid a round of layoffs related to a restructuring based on the needs of the studio.
“Today we made the difficult decision to say goodbye to 17 talented people as we restructured to align with our current and anticipated development needs,” reads a line from the statement. “These people all played a role in making Harmonix and its games what they are today and we are more than grateful for their contributions. We are working to ensure that they are taken care of as we make this change.”
Harmonix recently shipped Rock Band VR and announced a brand-new card-based music game called DropMix that it’s making with toy giant Hasbro. Additionally, Harmonix is working on another virtual reality game called SingSpace. The studio also continues to support Rock Band 4.
As GI.biz explains, Harmonix has cut jobs now in four of the past five years. One of the deeper rounds of layoffs came in 2014, when Harmonix eliminated 37 positions. As part of that round of cuts, Harmonix CEO Alex Rigopulos stepped aside from his role as chief executive and transitioned to chief creative officer.
The beta, which is a 3 GB download, will last the duration of the weekend, from 10 AM PT / 1 PM ET / 6 PM BST on March 31 through to 11 PM PT on April 2 (2 AM ET / 7 AM BST on April 3). You’ll be able to build your own deck and try out the tutorial before testing your skills against other players in online casual matches, according to developer CD Projekt Red.
The company says the purpose of the beta is nothing to do with balance tweaks, but to assess server capacity on PS4: “the game is already fun,” reads an official Q&A. It is also stated in the blog post that users will not need PS Plus to participate in the beta, while microtransactions are disabled until the release of the full game.
