  • Man Is Suing His Date For Texting During Guardians Of The Galaxy 2

Man Is Suing His Date For Texting During Guardians Of The Galaxy 2

The issue of texting in theaters has become a controversial one over the past few years. Now the stakes have been raised even higher with the news of a man who is suing his date for excessive texting during the recent Marvel smash Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2.

    No Caption Provided

As reported by the Austin-based Statesman, 37-year-old Brandon Vezmar filed a claim to recoup the $17.31 he paid for his date’s ticket. The site states that Vezmar met the woman online, and the visit to the theater in Round Rock, Texas, was their first date.

In his petition, Vezmar alleges that the woman “activated her phone at least 10-20 times in 15 minutes to read and send text messages.” Vezmar says that she also left the theater after the movie without giving him a lift, and that his subsequent attempts to contact her to get the ticket money refunded were ignored.

“While damages sought are modest, the principle is important as defendant’s behavior is a threat to civilized society,” Vezmar states in his petition.

The Statesman contacted the woman, who did not know about the claim and asked for her name not be used. She told the site: “This is crazy. I had my phone low and I wasn’t bothering anybody. It wasn’t like constant texting. I’m not a bad woman. I just went out on a date.”

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 director James Gunn has also weighed in on the issue of the alleged texting during his movie:

Why stop at suing? She deserves jail time! https://t.co/c41MWGz74M

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 opened earlier this month and is proving hugely successful. To date it has made $636.9 million at the worldwide box office.

It has promised the new PES will “hit the floor running with new features, new ways to play, a PC version to the standard of the leading console iterations, and an unrivalled gameplay experience.”

One of the major new features to the way PES plays is called “Real Touch +,” which Konami says allows players to “react to receiving a ball using permissible parts of the body, such as chest, head, and legs to bring a pass under control dependent on the height and pace of the incoming ball.” This, it says, is done through “simple movements of the control stick.”

Konami claims it has also improved PES visually using the “Real Capture system,” which “provides true-to-life lighting across day and night games, while over 20,000 components have been faithfully recreated to recreate the turf, tunnels, and the surrounding areas of stadia such as Camp Nou and Signal Iduna Park.”

PES 2018 will be available for PS4, Xbox One, PS3, Xbox 360, and PC. Konami has assured PC players that their version of the game “enjoys parity with the current gen formats.”

Those that preorder the digital FC Barcelona Special Edition of the game on will get “additional content at launch: including 1,000 myClub coins and 5 myClub player agents” this will net you a UEFA Champions League player, as well as a top club and Legend player from FC Barcelona.”

A product page on Xbox.com (via TrueAchievements) shows a release date of September 14, along with a number of new features for the latest entry in the soccer series.

Among the new features are things like “strategic dribbling” and new set pieces that “take the unrivalled gameplay to the next level.” The game’s presentation is also reportedly getting an overhaul with new menus and “real player images.” There is also new lighting, reworked player models, and animations for things like facial animations and player models.

A new co-op mode is also included, it seems, while the transfer system is reportedly improved. Additionally, if you preorder, you’ll get bonuses for the game’s MyClub mode. On the game’s cover are the stars of Barcelona, though this might be a regional cover.

Konami is likely to officially announce the game soon, so keep checking back for more.

On the other side of the fence, EA’s FIFA series is returning this year with FIFA 18. Like Pro Evo 2018, FIFA 18 has yet to be formally announced, but that should happen soon. Historically, new installments in both franchises come out in September.

Platforms for FIFA 18 and Pro Evo 2018 have not been announced, but PlayStation 4 and Xbox One are likely.

  • Overwatch's D.Va Joins Heroes Of The Storm, New Trailer Showcases Her Skills

D.Va, everyone’s favourite professional gamer turned mech-piloting hero, has made the jump from Overwatch to Heroes of the Storm as part of the game’s latest update.

“World champion professional gamer and burgeoning global icon Hana Song, also known as D.Va, battles to protect her homeland as a member of South Korea’s elite MEKA unit,” Blizzard says in a press release.

For Heroes of the Storm, D.Va retains many of the unique abilities that make her a force to be reckoned with in Overwatch. She is able to pilot her MEKA into battle, but when it’s destroyed she hops out and carries on fighting on foot. If she can stay in the battle long enough, she’s can call another mech in and continue dishing out damage.

Her other abilities include Defense Matrix, which is a directional shield that reduces damage, and Self-Destruct, during which she launches her mech at the enemies as it explodes. Take a look at a breakdown of her abilities below, courtesy of Blizzard. You can also see her in action in the video above.

    Trait

    • Mech Mode
      • When D.Va’s Mech is destroyed, she is ejected after 0.75 seconds and can continue to fight in Pilot Mode. Destroying D.Va’s Mech only awards 50% of a normal Hero’s XP.
    • Pilot Mode
      • Each Basic Attack reduces the cooldown of Call Mech by 0.5 seconds. As a Pilot, D.Va only awards 50% of a normal Hero’s XP upon death.

    Mount

    • While in Mech Mode, D.Va can shoot while moving, but her Movement Speed is reduced by 15%. While in Pilot Mode, D.Va can use Mounts.

    Basic Abilities

    • Boosters (Q)
      • Increases D.Va’s movements speed by 125% for 2 seconds. Enemies that are hit take damage and are knocked away.
      • D.Va cannot be Slowed while Boosters are active.
    • Defense Matrix (W)
      • Channel a defensive field in the target direction for 3 seconds, reducing damage dealt by enemy Heroes inside it by 75%. The Mech can move while channeling, but cannot turn.
      • Damage dealt to the Mech by enemies within Defense Matrix still grants the same amount of Self-Destruct Charge.
    • Self-Destruct (E)
      • Requires Mech Mode.
      • Eject from the Mech, setting it to self-destruct after 4 seconds. Deals medium to massive damage in a large area, depending on distance from the center of the blast. Deals 50% damage against Structures.
      • Gain 1% Charge for every 2 seconds spent using Basic Attacks, and 30% Charge per 100% of Mech Health lost.
    • Call Mech (E)
      • Requires Pilot Mode.
      • Call a new Mech and enter Mech Mode. 45 second cooldown. While in Pilot Mode, each Basic Attack lowers this cooldown by 0.5 seconds.

    Heroic Abilities

    • Bunny Hop (R) – Requires Mech Mode. D.Va’s Mech becomes Unstoppable and stomps every 0.5 seconds, dealing damage and Slowing enemies by 40%. Lasts 4 seconds.
    • Big Shot (R) Requires Pilot Mode – Deal damage to all enemies in a line. Call Mech’s cooldown is reduced by 8 seconds for each enemy Hero hit.

Heroes of the Storm added Overwatch’s Genji and debuted its big 2.0 update in April. This overhaul revamped its progression systems and much more.

An Overwatch crossover event is currently going on where you can unlock content in both Heroes of the Storm and Overwatch, including a D.Va skin in the latter. You can also still receive a free 20-character bundle just for logging in.

  • Valve Is Changing Steam Trading Cards To Combat “Fake Games,” Here's How

Valve is implementing some big changes to Steam Trading Cards in an effort to combat “fake games” and improve the overall Steam Store experience.

Added in 2013, Steam Trading Cards are collectibles that players could collect and trade with friends. They became more popular over time, and with that popularity came some bad eggs who wanted to take advantage of the system by releasing “fake” games on Steam to cash in on demand for cards.

“These fake developers take advantage of a feature we provide to all developers on Steam, which is the ability to generate Steam keys for their games,” Valve said in a blog post today. “They generate many thousands of these keys and hand them out to bots running Steam accounts, which then idle away in their games to collect Trading Cards. Even if no real players ever see or buy one of these fake games, their developers make money by farming cards.”

Valve of course wants to put an end to this, but it hasn’t been easy or without issue.

“We could restrict the ability for developers to generate Steam keys for their games, but we hate to degrade tools that legitimate developers are using to make their players happy,” Valve said. “We’re also not certain it would actually solve the problem–there are many ways a bad actor could try to get their game owned by all their bot accounts, and they just need to find a way to do it that costs less than they’re making from selling their Trading Cards.”

Part of the reason why Valve is taking action is because the abuse of the Card system negatively impacts the Steam Store’s algorithm that aims to spotlight the games you might be most interested in.

“The algorithm’s primary job is to chew on a lot of data about games and players, and ultimately decide which games it should show you. These Trading Card farming games produce a lot of faux data, because there’s a lot of apparent player activity around them,” Valve said. “As a result, the algorithm runs the risk of thinking that one of these games is actually a popular game that real players should see.”

As such, Valve said it has decided to “remove the economic incentive” of the Card system first by not releasing Cards until a game has reached a “confidence metric” that demonstrates that a game is actually real.

“Once a game reaches that metric, cards will drop to all users, including all the users who’ve played the game prior to that point,” Valve said. “So going forward, even if you play a game before it has Trading Cards, you’ll receive cards for your playtime when the developer adds cards and reaches the confidence metric.”

This confidence metric is derived from “a variety of pieces of data” that Valve did not disclose.

“You might wonder why the confidence metric will succeed at identifying fake games, when we weren’t being successful at using data to prevent them getting through Greenlight,” Valve said. “The reason is that Greenlight is used by a tiny subsection of Steam’s total playerbase, producing far less data overall, which makes it more easily gamed. In addition, Greenlight only allows players to vote and comment, so that data is narrow. Steam at large allows players to interact with games in many different ways, generating a broad set of data for each game, and that makes identifying fake ones an easier task.”

If this system works, the people releasing fake games will have less of an economic reason to do so, which should in turn help fix the problem. Some games (“a small number,” Valve said) will see a delay before their Cards arrive, but overall, the company said this change should have “little negative impact on other developers and players.”

“On the positive side, it should significantly improve the quality of the data being fed into the Store algorithms, which is a good thing for everyone,” Valve said.

Today’s announcement is the second of three parts in Valve’s blog post series explaining the goals and objectives of the Steam Store. The first post covered Valve’s thoughts on making a store that works for everyone and the challenges associated with that.

The third post will talk about the publishing fee for the Steam Greenlight replacement, Steam Direct. This was announced in February, and at the time, Valve said surveyed developers suggested prices ranging from $100 to $5000 per game. Presumably, Valve will announce the final fee value soon.

We’ll report back with more details as they are announced.

  • The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo Follow-Up May Have Its Star Actress

The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo Follow-Up May Have Its Star Actress

In March it was announced that a follow-up to the crime thriller The Girl With a Dragon Tattoo had found a director and would arrive in theatres in 2018. It has now been reported that Claire Foy, the star of the acclaimed Netflix series The Crown, is in consideration to play the lead role of Lisbeth Salander.

    No Caption Provided

According to The Wrap, Foy tops the shortlist of potential actresses to play the iconic hacker in The Girl in the Spider’s Web. Foy won a Golden Globe earlier this year for playing Queen Elizabeth II in The Crown, and will return for the second season later this year.

The Girl in the Spider’s Web will be adapted from David Lagercrantz’s 2015 novel of the same name. It is a continuation of the trilogy created by the late Stieg Larsson. The 2011 adaptation of the first novel, The Girl With a Dragon Tattoo, was directed by David Fincher and starred Rooney Mara as Salander. However, it was not a commercial success and plans to adapt the next two books went no further.

The Girl in the Spider’s Web will be directed by Fede Alvarez, who scored a hit last year with the horror movie Don’t Breathe. It is scheduled to hit theaters on October 5, 2018.

  • For Honor Adds New Maps And More Today With Season 2 DLC Launch

A wave of new For Honor content arrives today, some of which is immediately free to all players.

Season Two of For Honor, known as Shadow and Might, goes live at 2 PM PT / 5 PM ET. As previously detailed, two new maps and various gameplay updates will be available then for all players. Season pass owners immediately get their hands on the two new characters, while all other players will have to wait for May 23, when they’ll be made available for purchase using the in-game currency Steel.

In addition to the free maps, the gear system has been “overhauled,” according to Ubisoft. This includes balance changes and tweaks to stats that have been deemed either useless or redundant, as well as a way to see percentage increases when comparing pieces of gear. Alongside this, a new Epic level of gear will be introduced that raises the gear score cap from 108 to 144.

New territories are also being added to the Faction War map, but maybe the main highlight of Season Two is the addition of two new characters. The Centurion is a close-quarters Knight hybrid, while the Shinobi is a Samurai assassin. You can see these in action in the gameplay clips above and below.

This release marks the biggest update since the game’s launch back in February. For more, check out GameSpot’s For Honor review.

  • Pirate Of The Caribbean 5 Is Being Held For Ransom By Hackers

Pirate Of The Caribbean 5 Is Being Held For Ransom By Hackers

One of the summer’s biggest movie releases has been stolen and is being held for ransom. It has been reported that hackers have demanded a payout from Disney or else they will release Pirates Of The Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales onto the internet.

    No Caption Provided

According to Deadline, hackers have demanded “an enormous amount of money,” to be paid in Bitcoin, or else they will release the movie in increments online. The site reports that the studio is refusing to pay and is currently working with the FBI.

While Disney has not officially commented on the story, chief executive Bob Iger did confirm to ABC employees on Monday that the incident had taken place. The identity of the stolen film was not revealed, but Deadline has since learned that it is the latest entry in the blockbuster Pirates of the Caribbean series. The movie is set to hit theaters on May 24.

Deadline spoke to online security expert Hector Monsegur, who explained that while big studios like Disney have tight security measures, there is no guarantee that the many third party companies involved with a movie’s production would have the same level of online protection.

“You have all these vendors and small production companies which don’t have great security,” he said. “[They] probably don’t have the budget to focus on their own security, so hackers get in pretty easily.”

This is the second incident of a high-profile production being held for ransom in recent weeks. Earlier this month, a hacker claimed that he had stolen the latest season of the Netflix show Orange is the New Black, and was similarly demanding a payout from the streaming giant.

  • Injustice 2 Review Roundup

Netherrealm’s Injustice 2 returns to a world in which Superman rules as dictator and Batman leads an insurgent rebellion against him. Except this time the two sides may need to unite against a common enemy that could destroy them all: Brainiac.

Injustice 2 builds upon the success of the first game with a new story mode, expanded multiplayer modes, and an expansive gear system. By gathering loot, players can create their own unique take on DC’s most iconic superheroes, but is taking them into battle any fun? We’ve collected a few reviews for the game to answer that question.

In GameSpot’s Injustice 2 review Peter Brown said the game “offers numerous ways of engaging with its characters and testing your abilities without feeling repetitive,” and “this variety is further bolstered by gear.” He awarded the game a 9/10; take a look below to see what everyone else thought about it.

For a selection of other critics’ opinions, check out the roundup below–or for a wider view on critical opinion, you can take a look at GameSpot sister site Metacritic.

    • Game: Injustice 2
    • Developer: Netherrealm Studios
    • Platforms: PlayStation 4, Xbox One
    • Release: May 16 (May 17 in Australia and May 19 in Europe)
    • Price: US $60 / £50 / AU $100

    GameSpot — 9/10

“With AI battles, online and local versus matches, the diverse and ever-changing Multiverse, and an impressive story mode, Injustice 2 offers numerous ways of engaging with its characters and testing your abilities without feeling repetitive. This variety is further bolstered by gear. Despite the needlessly complex economy tied to item management, the value of customization and expression that comes with gear ultimately makes up for it. And with over 25 characters to explore, it’s easy to look forward to watching your next character grow while your understanding of the game continues to expand. NetherRealm has delivered a fighting game that can be enjoyed by new players and pros alike in ways that go beyond pure competition. It’s a bar that every fighting game should meet, but one that has up until now seemed out of reach.” — Peter Brown [Full review]

    IGN — In Progress

“Like its cast of heroes, Injustice 2 is exceptional. The fight mechanics have been guided in the right direction following 2013’s Injustice: Gods Among Us. The hours of play potential in the new Multiverse mode alone is impressive. The heroes and villains of the DC Universe look better here than they have in any game before, even as they star in a grim and joyless “what-if” storyline. Just like its heroes, though, Injustice 2 overcomes that adversity and soars, with more single-player content than I’ve ever seen in a fighting game at launch and an unrivaled combo system that is a sheer joy once you master it.” — Darry Huskey [Full review]

    Destructoid — In Progress

“If you’re wondering whether or not Injustice 2 is worth jumping into, as of right now, it is if you’re interested in the slightest. It’s the full DC Universe experience NetherRealm Studios had wanted to nail since Gods Among Us. The single-player experience has also been enhanced to the point where you won’t even have to go online for a while if the Gear System speaks to you.” — Nick Valdez [Full review]

    Eurogamer — Recommended

“Despite annoyances with the gear system and the loot boxes, Injustice 2 is a huge amount of fun. There’s tonnes of stuff to do, it looks the part and the new fighting mechanics serve a purpose while deftly avoiding adding complexity. Injustice 2 is also a game I thoroughly appreciate for the lovely little touches. I appreciate that NetherRealm has put frame data into the move list. I appreciate there are character-specific tutorials. I appreciate there’s a tournament mode that lets you battle offline with no progression or rewards. I appreciate how over the top the supers and stage transitions are. And I appreciate the character’s eyes seem to look in the right direction. In short, Injustice 2 is the complete fighting game package, and it’s one I hope other developers in the genre take notice of.” — Wesley Yin-Poole [Full review]

    GameInformer — 9/10

“Injustice 2 is a huge game, offering a lengthy story-based campaign, a great fighting experience, and a nearly endless supply of notable loot. The small tweaks to combat go a long way in creating a more dynamic flow, which resonates well in multiplayer matches. I ran into a little lag in a few online bouts, but the game ran smoothly most of the time. Even if you don’t enjoy the competitive aspects of the fighting genre, this is a game you can dive into for an enjoyable superhero story. Brainiac is a tough fight, but anyone should be able to march to him and take him down on the easiest difficulty.” — Andrew Reiner [Full review]
