  • E3 2017: Zelda Breath Of The Wild DLC The Master Trials Gameplay Reveals New Armor And Challenges

E3 2017: Zelda Breath Of The Wild DLC The Master Trials Gameplay Reveals New Armor And Challenges

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild‘s upcoming DLC is easily one of the most anticipated releases coming up for Nintendo fans. Now we’re getting to see some of The Master Trials’ gameplay with our very own eyes.

Stopping by the GameSpot E3 2017 Stage show, Nintendo’s Danny Orihuela showed off gameplay in the DLC’s new Master Mode. Master Mode essentially makes the game harder, and in the video we see the red Bokoblins have been replaced with blue Bokoblins that regenerate health. They can also spot you from much further away, making sneak attacks harder to pull off.

You don’t need to beat Breath of the Wild to be able to play Master Mode. You simply start a game in the new mode, regardless of where you’re at in the game. There are tons of new armor options in the DLC (check out the awesome Phantom armor Link picks up in the video), new masks that grant you abilities, and Travel Medallions that allow you to teleport to a designated point on the map.

Of course, the real star of the DLC is the new Trial of the Sword. In order to unlock the full power of the Master Sword, you need to complete an epic 45 room challenge. Stripped of all his armor, weapons, and food, Link needs to battle it out with just the resources around him. As you can see in the video, managing your health and supplies smartly is pretty key to surviving the challenge.

The Master Trials comes out June 30 and is the first of two DLCs announced (the other will be called The Champion’s Ballad, no release date yet). For all the details on the upcoming expansion, check out the links below:

  • Avengers: Infinity War Directors Tease Mysterious On-Set Image

Avengers: Infinity War is currently in production, and promises to be the biggest Marvel movie to date. It’s directed by the Russo brothers, who helmed the last two Captain America movies, and they have now tweeted a new image from the set.

It’s unclear what it is exactly. One of Tony Stark’s gadgets perhaps? Or maybe the vault where the villainous Thanos keeps the Infinity Gauntlet? We’ll find out next year, but for now, here’s the picture:

    pic.twitter.com/RjIaCbUeiU

    — Russo Brothers (@Russo_Brothers) June 14, 2017

It follows a behind-the-scenes promo that was released in February. The video provided a brief overview of the Infinity Stones, revealed some of the film’s sets, and featured interviews with stars Robert Downey Jr. (Iron Man), Tom Holland (Spider-Man), and Chris Pratt (Star-Lord), plus Joe and Anthony Russo. You can watch it here.

Marvel boss Kevin Feige also recenty revealed that the movie will have a surprising main character–Thanos himself. “In a movie that has a lot of characters, you could almost go so far as to say he is the main character,” he said. “That’s a bit of a departure from what we’ve done before, but that was appropriate for a movie called Infinity War.”

Infinity War was originally planned as two movies, but a retitling last year meant that the second film will be something different. Infinity War hits theaters on May 4, 2018, while the untitled fourth Avengers movie follows on May 3, 2019.

  • E3 2017: Xbox One X Is “Like A High-End PC,” Developer Says

    E3 2017: Xbox One X Is “Like A High-End PC,” Developer Says

Microsoft’s Xbox One X console was one of the biggest talking points around E3 this year. We learned its final name (it was previously known as Project Scorpio) and Microsoft confirmed a price point, $500, as well as a November 7 release date. A number of developers have already chimed in with their thoughts on the console, and now Paul Bettner of Super Lucky’s Tale developer Playful has spoken about the system as well.

Speaking to GameSpot, Bettner–who created Words With Friends before making Lucky’s Tale and now Super Lucky’s Tale–said Xbox One X is incredibly powerful. Not only that, but the system is also very developer-friendly, Bettner explained.

“From a developer’s standpoint, [Xbox One X] is the most developer-friendly console we have ever worked with,” he said. “Not just because the hardware is super over-powered–which it is. I don’t understand how they … it’s like a high-end PC crammed into this tiny little box.”

Bettner added: “The tools and support we had developing the game is the most advanced it’s ever been. And I think that’s because Microsoft hasn’t necessarily been reinventing [with every new console], they’ve been refining and making it more powerful. This is the best version yet of the Xbox.”

    No Caption Provided

The power of the Xbox One X allows Super Lucky’s Tale to run at 4K/60FPS, which Bettner told us is a big deal for platformers.

“The fact the game is running in 60 frames per second is probably actually the most impactful thing for a platforming game,” Bettner explained. “It gives you this precision and it really benefits the game like this that’s a lot about timing and about controlling this character–and it just feels great.

Super Lucky’s Tale launches alongside the Xbox One X on November 7. It’s a “shorter” game, and has a $30 price point. The game is also playable on Xbox One S and Windows 10.

  • New War For The Planet Of The Apes Clip Introduces “Bad Ape”

The Planet of the Apes series is one of the most successful movie reboots of recent years, and the third movie in the franchise arrives next month. War for the Planet of the Apes promises an epic showdown between apes and man, and a new clip has been released. It introduces ‘Bad Ape’, voiced by Steve Zahn (The Ridiculous 6). Check it out below:

This clip follows one that was released last week, and you can also watch the final full trailer.

The film stars Andy Serkis, Woody Harrelson, and Judy Greer. It follows Rise of the Planet of the Apes (2011) and Dawn of the Planet of the Apes (2014). It’s directed by Matt Reeves, whose previous credits include Dawn of the Planet of the Apes and Cloverfield, and he’ll also helm the standalone Batman movie for DC.

The most recent trailer for the movie suggested that this would be “the end” for the series. However, Serkis has since clarified this, and reassured fans that there will be more movies to come. “We’re saying this is the final chapter in the trilogy,” he told Yahoo Movies. “It’s by no means the end of the road in terms of Apes films.”

War for the Planet of the Apes hits theaters on July 14, 2017.

  • E3 2017: Matterfall Gameplay Shows Just How Fast-Paced The Futuristic City Platformer-Shooter Is

E3 2017: Matterfall Gameplay Shows Just How Fast-Paced The Futuristic City Platformer-Shooter Is

Matterfall will be a true platformer, with a few core game mechanics to help players blast and survive their way through futuristic level after level, according to developer Housemarque’s Jari Hokkanen. He stopped by GameSpot’s E3 2017 Stage to talk gameplay and share tons of video from the studio’s next game, due out this August. Check out the action in the video above.

Hokkanen says the arcade-style shooter is reminiscent of classic action platformers like Metroid and Gunstar Heroes. In Matterfall, you play a mercenary tasked with clearing the city of corrupted red matter and enemies, saving civilians in the meantime. Fortunately, you can use non-corrupted blue matter, all around you, to activate platforms and build up your shields.

At the game’s core, you shoot your way through level after level in Matterfall, employing powerful secondary weapons like a matter gun, shotgun, or grenade launcher. You can also activate other passive augmentations, which grant you buffs like increased health or better reloads.

In the E3 gameplay video, Housemarque mostly shows off the game’s first city level, complete with a scary boss fight with a robotic wasp at the end. There are different difficulty levels, and the whole game was built with speedrunners in mind. You can explosively dash your way through levels and try to kill everything in your way to get the best time. There’s no multiplayer, but there is an online leaderboard if you’re feeling competitive.

  • Microsoft E3 2017: Xbox One X Is A Great Value At $500, Exec Says

Microsoft E3 2017: Xbox One X Is A Great Value At $500, Exec Says

One of the biggest talking points around the Xbox One X this week has been its $500 price. That’s higher than some, including a number of analysts, thought it would be. It is the most powerful console ever made, and Microsoft never backed away from saying it would have a premium price point, but still, some are feeling sticker shock given it’s $100 more than PS4 Pro. Now, Xbox engineering lead Mike Ybarra has weighed in, saying $500 is an excellent value.

Speaking to TechRadar, Ybarra the Xbox ecosystem is all about giving people options. “We’re all about choice,” he said, pointing to the Xbox One S as a more than capable console that is available at a relatively affordable price point, starting at $250 right now.

    No Caption Provided

The Xbox One X, meanwhile, is aimed at the “high-end gamer,” and it has a price point that reflects that. “If you’re a high-end gamer and you want the absolute best experience possible there’s no place you’ll find a better performance to price ratio than Xbox One X,” he said. “True 4K, all the features you saw in the briefing at $499, that value proposition is great.”

Further up the ladder in terms of performance–and price–is the PC market. “If you’re on PC you’re going to be about $1500 or so, so that’s another area,” Ybarra said. “We love Windows gaming. A lot of our games, almost 20 of them in the show, are going to be on Windows too.”

“So that’s the point that I love to say, ‘What kind of gamer are you?’ and let you decide what’s best for you.”

You can read the full interview here at TechRadar.

GameSpot spoke with Microsoft this week about the console’s $500 price point, and the company believes no other console out there is doing what Xbox One X does. The Xbox One X launches on November 7. In other news, Microsoft has released a video in which an Xbox engineer assembles the console piece by piece–it’s pretty cool to watch. • GTA Mod Tool Program Shuts Down, After Reported Cease And Desist Letter

A popular Grand Theft Auto modding tool program has shut down after the group behind it claimed it received a cease and desist order from Take-Two Interactive.

The OpenIV group said in a message today (via PCGamer), “We feared that this day would come… And now it’s here. The day, when GTA modding was declared illegal.”

    OpenIV was discontinued due to Take Two Interactive request.https://t.co/GZZk4G9WFf#OpenIV #GTAV #GTAIV #RDR #MaxPayne3 #modding #RIP

    — OpenIV (@OpenIV) June 14, 2017

The organization said it complied with pertinent rules related to modding GTA content, including not “messing with online [play]” and only using “clean-room reverse engineering,” among other things.

On June 5, OpenIV said it received a cease and desist order letter from Take-Two, the parent company of GTA V developer Rockstar Games. The letter reportedly that the modding tool “allow[s] third-parties to defeat security features of its software and modify that software in violation Take-Two’s rights.”

OpenIV said they could go to court to demonstrate that modding is within the coverage of fair use, but the organization decided not to.

“Going to court will take at least few months of our time and huge amount of efforts, and, at best, we’ll get absolutely nothing,” it said. “Spending time just to restore status quo is really unproductive, and all the money in the world can’t compensate the loss of time.”

With that in mind, OpenIV said it decided to comply with the letter and stop distributing the mod tools. “It was a hard decision, but when any modding activity has been declared illegal, we can’t see any possibilities to continue this process,” it said. “Unless top management of Take-Two company makes an official statement about modding, which can be used in court.”

You can read the full statement here. We’ve contacted Take-Two in an attempt to get more details, and we’ll update this post with anything we hear back.

In other GTA V news, GTA Online’s newest update, Gunrunning, launched this week on Xbox One, PS4, and PC. GTA V has shipped an astonishing 80 million copies.

  • E3 2017: Destiny 2's Guided Games Not Available For Heroic Activities

One of the biggest additions coming to Destiny 2 is the Guided Games system, which will essentially act as a form of matchmaking for Raids and Nightfall Strikes. Today, however, game director Luke Smith revealed that Guided Games will be restricted to normal-difficulty activities.

In a conversation on Kotaku’s E3 2017 podcast, Smith confirmed that Heroic-level Raids and Nightfall Strikes will still require players to have their own groups to play with. “I don’t know exactly how the Challenge Mode layers are going to work [with Guided Games], but the normal-tier activities will be Guided Games, and the Heroics will be find-your-own.”

Raids and Nightfall Strikes, the two highest-level activities in Destiny, did not have any sort of matchmaking in the original game. In Destiny 2, Guided Games will provide a form of matchmaking for players who cannot find their own group. This system is undoubtedly a positive addition, but it’s still disappointing that players still won’t be able to access the most valuable activities without a large group of friends.

Destiny 2 launches on September 6 for Xbox Oneand PS4, and at a later date for PC. It’s getting a beta this summer, and Bungie has said that it’s focusing more on Destiny 2’s storytelling in-game, as well. Keep an eye on GameSpot’s E3 2017 hub for more on Destiny 2 in the last couple days of E3 2017.

  • New Game Of Thrones Season 7 Images Reveal Return Of Key Characters

New Game Of Thrones Season 7 Images Reveal Return Of Key Characters

Games of Thrones returns next month for its seventh–and penultimate–season. We’ve already a teaser and some images, and now a new batch of pictures have been revealed by Entertainment Weekly.

Check them out in the gallery below–be warned though, there are potential spoilers ahead.

The images include a first look at the return of Beric Dondarrion (Richard Dormer) and The Hound (Rory McCann), riding through the snow. There are also more shots of Daenerys (Emilia Clarke) and Jon Snow (Kit Harington), plus Cersei and Jaime Lannister (Lena Headey and Nikolaj Coster-Waldau).

Game of Thrones Season 7 premieres on Sunday, July 16. Although Season 8 will be the final one, there are already multiple scripts for prequels in the works. Last month, author George R.R. Martin revealed that there are five potential spinoffs being developed by HBO.

However, HBO boss Casey Bloys subsequently clarified this statement, and explained that fans shouldn’t expect several new shows.

“I want to put the prequels in context. I wanted to make sure fans know this is a really embryonic process,” he told EW. “I haven’t even seen outlines. In the press at large, everybody said, ‘there are four spinoffs’ and they assume that means each one is happening and we’re going to have a new Game Of Thrones show per quarter. That’s not what’s going on.

“The idea is not to do four shows. The bar set by [showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss] is so high that my hope is to get one show that lives up to it. Also, this is a long-term plan. Our No. 1 goal is the seventh season this summer and getting the eighth season written and aired.”

  • Spider-Man: Homecoming Star Confirms Marvel Is Planning A Spidey Trilogy

Spider-Man: Homecoming Star Confirms Marvel Is Planning A Spidey Trilogy

Following his appearance in last summer’s Captain America: Civil War, Spider-Man returns to screens next month in Spider-Man: Homecoming. Now star Tom Holland has revealed that it will be the first part of a trilogy of movies.

    No Caption Provided

Speaking to the French site Allo Ciné, Holland spoke about the future of his character. “There is what we call the arc of the character,” he said, via Superherohype. “There is still a lot of room for Peter Parker and Spider-Man, especially, to grow in the next two movies. He’s definitely not the finished article by the end of Spider-Man: Homecoming and I really look forward to exploring the different ways he can grow up and… go through puberty I guess. It’s going to be an exciting couple of movies.”

When the interviewer questioned Holland’s reference to “the next two movies”, Holland confirmed that there would be a trilogy: “There will be a Spider-Man 2 and 3. Yeah, well now you know. Sorry Marvel. Whoops!”

While it isn’t surprising that Marvel want to make more Spider-Man films, there is an added legal complication. Sony owns the movie rights to the character, and in 2015 agreed a deal to allow Marvel to use Spidey in its Cinematic Universe.

However, comments earlier this year from former Sony exec Amy Pascal suggest that the deal only covers one more standalone Spider-Man film. In addition, Sony have set a 2018 release date for the Spider-Man spinoff Venom, although Homecoming director Jon Watts has stated that Venom is not connected to the MCU.

Spider-Man: Homecoming opens on July 7 and also stars Michael Keaton, Robert Downey Jr, Marisa Tomei, and Donald Glover. A new trailer was released last week–check it out here.
