  • Watch The Stunning And Mysterious New Blade Runner 2049 Trailer

The long-awaited sequel to the sci-fi classic Blade Runner arrives in October, and a new trailer has been released. This one is more focused on the plot than some of the earlier teasers, and confirms that Jared Leto’s character is very much the villain of the movie. Check it out below:

Blade Runner 2049 also stars Ryan Gosling, Harrison Ford, Ana de Armas, and Robin Wright. It’s directed by Denis Villeneuve, who previously helmed Arrival and Sicario.

In a recent interview with Slashfilm, Villeneuve revealed one of the main reasons that he decided to take on the remake. “I said to myself, ‘They will do it. No matter what we think, the studio will move forward and will make it.’ I don’t know if I’ll succeed, but I know I will give it all my love and all my skills,” he said. “I will work so hard. I didn’t want it to fall into the hands of someone that wouldn’t. I was afraid to see a sequel to Blade Runner, but I said, at least if I do it, I will have some control over it. At least then I can blame only myself.”

Villeneuve went on to explain that he hoped to match the original film in terms of tone and pacing. “There was a melancholia in the first movie, a nostalgic feeling of loneliness and existential doubt,” he said. “A kind of inner paranoia about yourself that I wanted to keep alive in the second movie. I wanted to keep the film noir aesthetic alive, as well. That was very important.

“A certain kind of pacing, too. It’s still made in the rhythms of [today’s] movies, but I tried my best to keep that tension alive. Ridley told me that it touched him because I was able to extend that atmospheric quality that the first movie had.”

Blade Runner 2049 hits theaters on October 6, 2017.

  • SNES Classic Edition Includes A Rewind Feature

SNES Classic Edition Includes A Rewind Feature

The NES Classic Edition featured the ability to suspend and resume a game from any point, essentially working like an extremely flexible save system. For the SNES Classic Edition, Nintendo has expanded on this with a new Rewind feature.

Put simply, this allows you to load up a suspended save and rewatch a period of gameplay–ranging up to several minutes, depending on the genre. While doing so, you’re free to jump back in and pick up the action from any point in the clip. This could prove to be handy for mastering certain sections of games or trying out a different approach.

The system saving these replays serves another purpose. A screensaver kicks in when the system is left idle for long enough, and rather than a generic screen of some sort, it will instead show your gameplay footage on-screen.

From the system’s main menu, you’re able to choose from three different display options for games–one that applies a CRT filter with scanlines, one that displays the game in a 4:3 aspect ratio, and a third that displays a pixel-perfect version. You’re also free to choose from a variety of frames to fill in the surrounding areas of the screen. You can see these options in the gallery above.

The SNES Classic Edition launches on September 29 and comes with 21 games, including the never-released Star Fox 2. Pre-orders in the US have not gone live yet but are expected to be available at some point in August. You can find out where and when you can pre-order a SNES Classic Edition in our guide.

  • The Crew 2 Release Date, Pre-Order Bonuses Revealed

As part of Gamescom 2017, Ubisoft today announced the release date and pre-order bonuses for racing game sequel The Crew 2. Starting with the release date, the open-world title comes to Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC on March 16, 2018.

You may not have to wait that long to play, however, as a beta is coming up ahead of launch. You can register for the beta on The Crew 2’s website here.

In The Crew 2, you can drive around an “open-world USA” that has been “completely reshaped for motorsports.” It’s not just cars that you can drive in the game, as there are also boats and planes for the sequel. There are four main motorsport categories in the game: street racing, off-road, pro, and freestyle, each of which has its own set of “deep” options and “wide selection of vehicle types.”

You can switch between land-, water-, or air-based vehicles on the fly through what Ubisoft calls a “Fast Fav” feature. One example Ubisoft provided is that you could be driving across the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco in a car and then switch to a boat to zip across the water. If you catch air off a wave, you could then start flying in a plane.

As for The Crew 2’s pre-order bonuses, these include extra cars, as you might have guessed. Additionally, people who pre-order get to start playing on March 13, three days before the game’s official release date. A Gold edition of The Crew 2 is also on the way, and it includes the game’s season pass and other bonuses, in addition to unlocking on March 13. Below is a rundown of The Crew 2’s pre-order bonuses, and Deluxe and Gold editions.

    • Pre-ordering any version of The Crew 2 gets you the Legendary Motors Pack, which comes with the Mercedes-AMG C 63 Touring Car 2016 and the Harley-Davidson Iron 883 2017.
    • The $70 Deluxe Edition comes with the Legendary Motors Pack and the Motorsports Deluxe Pack, which includes the Ford F-150 Raptor Race Truck 2017, the Abarth 500 2008 Monster Truck Edition, the Pilatus PC-21 aerobatics plane, and three “unique racing outfits” for your character to wear.
    • The Gold Edition unlocks on March 13 and comes with the season pass, the Legendary Motors Pack, and the Motorsports Deluxe Pack. The digital version of the Gold edition costs $100 and the physical version (which also comes with a steelbook) costs $110.

  • HP's New Gaming Laptop Will Outperform Most High-End Desktops

HP's New Gaming Laptop Will Outperform Most High-End Desktops

HP has announced its new Omen X gaming laptop, which is geared towards enthusiast PC gamers looking for a desktop replacement. What really separates the notebook from others in its class is that it can be equipped with overclockable components, which is something laptops generally shy away from due to their heat and drain on battery life.

    Gallery image 1Gallery image 2Gallery image 3Gallery image 4Gallery image 5Gallery image 6Gallery image 7Gallery image 8Gallery image 9Gallery image 10Gallery image 11

At the high-end spectrum, the Omen X can be outfitted with either a 7700HQ CPU or an unlocked 7820K processor coupled with up to 32GB of RAM clocked at 2800MHz. For the graphics card, there are overclockable options for either a GTX 1080 or GTX 1070. In terms of storage, the Omen X can house up to three drives, which scale up to two 1TB NVMe SSDs coupled with a 1TB HDD.

While the Omen X isn’t engineered to be thin and light, HP is using the additional bulk to incorporate numerous fans, multiple heat pipes, and a vapor chamber to keep it cool and quiet.

The gaming laptop also has eight chassis lighting zones and per-key RGB LED lighting. Its mechanical keyboard offers 2.5mm of travel, which will feel most similar to Cherry MX blue switches with their tactile and clicky feel. Users will be able to tweak the lights on the Omen X with HP’s Omen Command Center software. The software will also allow users to overclock the computer within the operating system.

For its display, customers can choose either a 1080p 120Hz panel or a 4K 60Hz screen. Both options will support Nvidia’s G-Sync adaptive refresh rate technology.

HP says that starting models with a GTX 1070 coupled with a 256GB SSD and a 1TB HDD will retail for $1,999. It will go up to $3,699 for the highest-end model, which comes with an overclockable GTX 1080, 4K G-Sync display, overclockable 7820HK CPU, 32GB of RAM, and two 1TB NVMe SSDs coupled with a 1TB HDD.

It’s certainly an expensive machine, but seems to sport mostly everything we recommend in a gaming laptop. You can get your hands on the Omen X when it launches this November.

  • Project Cars Dev Says It Might Make An Arcade-Style Racing Game

Project Cars Dev Says It Might Make An Arcade-Style Racing Game

The first Project Cars and its upcoming sequel are incredibly sophisticated racing games, so much so that the developers at Slightly Mad Studios consider the games to be capable driving simulators that professionals can use to train. But would the studio consider shifting gears in a way and making a more arcade-style racing game sometime down the road?

I asked Slightly Mad COO Rod Chong if that’s something the team has thought about. He confirmed with a quick “Yes,” before elaborating on the topic.

“The physics engine [for Project Cars] is very sophisticated,” Chong said. “The physics engine itself could be translated into other areas as well. And we understand cars and car culture and we certainly could apply that in different ways in the future.”

If Slightly Mad does make a more arcade-style racing game, don’t expect it to carry the Project Cars name. The franchise is all about authenticity and realism, and this obviously wouldn’t line up with an arcade experience. “It wouldn’t be Project Cars though,” Chong said about a potential Slightly Mad-developer arcade-style racing game.

Slightly Mad also developed Need for Speed: Shift and Shift 2: Unleashed. The company is also working on the MMO racing game World of Speed.

Project Cars 2 launches on September 22 for PC, Xbox One, and PS4. For more, you can check out all the cars and all the tracks through GameSpot’s videos below.

  • Where To Pre-Order Nintendo's SNES Classic Edition

August 22 update: Best Buy has SNES Classic units available to pre-order right now. Stock appears to be in stock one moment and out of stock the next, so keep refreshing and it might eventually work for you.

August 17 update: The previously available Walmart pre-orders were ultimately canceled in the US. Nintendo has since revealed that SNES Classic pre-orders should arrive in the US by the end of August. We don’t yet know when they will go up for sale exactly, but you can check out the store listings at some major retailers through the links below. With the end of the month fast approaching, we should have more details soon.

July 21 update: For the first time, the SNES Classic has come up for pre-order in the United States. It’s unclear how long it will last for, but Walmart is offering the system here.

Update: Those in the UK may have missed at least their first chance to pre-order from certain retailers, but Nintendo’s online store has the SNES Classic available as of this writing.

Original Story: Nintendo announced the SNES Classic today. A miniature version of the classic Nintendo console, the $80 system that comes with 21 games and two controllers launches in the US in September. Given that last year’s NES Classic sold out basically instantly everywhere it was sold, fans might be wondering how they can secure the SNES Classic right away.

US retailers are not yet widely accepting pre-orders, but in Australia, you can secure a pre-order right now through JB Hi Fi and EB Games. The console sells for $120 in Australia and it looks a little different than the North American edition.

UK retailer Game announced today that pre-orders were available for the SNES Classic, but at press time it appears that the allocated units have been sold through.

In the US, Amazon has a page up for the SNES Classic, as does Best Buy, but you cannot actually pre-order the system there as of yet. We will update this post as more retailers open pre-orders for the SNES Classic. Keep checking back with GameSpot for the latest.

The Super NES Classic Edition features a total of 21 games, including some huge names–EarthBound, Donkey Kong Country, The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past, and Super Mario World are among those included. But most notable of all is the inclusion of a game–Star Fox 2–that was famously never released. Here’s the complete list:

    • Contra III: The Alien Wars
    • Donkey Kong Country
    • EarthBound
    • Final Fantasy III
    • F-Zero
    • Kirby Super Star
    • Kirby’s Dream Course
    • The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past
    • Mega Man X
    • Secret of Mana
    • Star Fox
    • Star Fox 2
    • Street Fighter II Turbo: Hyper Fighting
    • Super Castlevania IV
    • Super Ghouls ‘n Ghosts
    • Super Mario Kart
    • Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars
    • Super Mario World
    • Super Metroid
    • Super Punch-Out
    • Yoshi’s Island

As with the NES Classic Edition, the SNES Classic features HDMI output and resembles the look of the system it’s based on but in a smaller form factor. But unlike that system, it comes with two controllers in the box.

On the subject of supply, while Nintendo isn’t sharing specific numbers, it did say it will deliver “significantly more” units than it did with the NES Classic Edition. That said, it only plans to ship the system between September and the end of 2017.

In Japan, Nintendo is selling the console as the Super Famicom Classic–and its game lineup is not the same as in the rest of the world.

  • Final Fantasy 15 Coming To PC With 2018 Release Date

Final Fantasy XV will come to PC next year. The RPG was previously only available on PS4 and Xbox One, but a new trailer indicates the game will come to PC in “early 2018.”

The trailer, which you can see below, comes from an Nvidia presentation, and hence highlights many of the technical effects the PC version will have. These include “4K high-resolution textures,” “high quality ambient occlusion,” and–the best of the bunch–“advanced hair simulation.”

Although the annohncement of a PC version originated from an Nvidia presentation, publisher Square Enix has since confirmed to GameSpot that the port is real.

It’s unclear whether the PC edition will include the game’s upcoming Comrades expansion, which recently got a second beta test. A rough start to the first trial meant Square Enix held a second one last week. At the start of the first test, server issues made it difficult to do much more than create a character and walk around a small patch of land.

Comrades is a cooperative multiplayer expansion for Final Fantasy XV, which until now had been single-player-only. Players create a character of their own to take online and partner with other players to explore the world and complete quests. No release date has yet been set for Comrades.

Final Fantasy XV launched for PS4 and Xbox One last November. Our critic, Peter Brown, called the JRPG “a fascinating game,” and he awarded it an 8/10. For more, take a look at our full Final Fantasy XV review.

  • HTC Vive Price Dropped to $599

HTC has dropped the price of its Vive VR headset to $599. Down from its original $799 price, this is a $200 price drop. Unlike Oculus’ $399 sale for the Rift, which will kick up to $499 after the summer, this is a permanent price drop for the Vive.

The deal will include Tilt Brush, Everest VR, and Richie’s Plank Experience. It will also come with a free trial for Viveport, which allows customers to choose up to five additional games a month on HTC’s VR subscription service.

The headset won’t come bundled with HTC’s Deluxe Audio Strap (DAS), which is an ergonomic attachment for the Vive that we recommend for most users. In addition to making the headset more comfortable, DAS also also integrates headphones into the headset.

The HTC Vive is the only VR system to allow room-scale experiences that allow you to effectively walk around your physical space to explore your virtual environment right out of the box. You can read more about it in our HTC Vive review.

  • PlayStation Hack Affects Twitter Account

It looks like there may have been a security breach at PlayStation today. The official PlayStation Twitter account today posted a message that said it had been taken over by the hacking group OurMine. The tweets were removed, but NeoGAF captured them. One of the tweets claimed that the PlayStation Network database had been potentially compromised.

It’s a good idea to change your password semi-regularly anyway, but now seems like a good time to do that, if only just to be safe.

The official PlayStation support Twitter account, Ask PlayStation, has been responding to messages today as usual. However, it doesn’t appear that Sony has responded to the reported Twitter takeover, at least not beyond deleting the tweets in question.

In 2011, the PlayStation Network suffered a massive cyberattack that brought the service down for an extended period of time. A United States Congressional subcommittee opened an inquiry into the attack, which compromised more than 70 million accounts.

We’ll report back with more details on this latest issue as they become available.

Microsoft’s Gamescom livestream today brought with it the expected news: Xbox One X pre-orders are now live. Below, you’ll find the basic details on how and where to pre-order the system. We’ll continue to update this as more retailers bring their pre-orders online. The Xbox One X launches worldwide on November 7 for $500 / £449 / AU $649. There are at least two bundles available–GameStop is packaging the Elite controller with the Xbox One X for $600 in the US, a $50 discount over buying them separately. It also has another bundle with a second controller and more for $583.

Microsoft has also announced a Project Scorpio Edition of Xbox One X for the same price as the standard edition. This is available by pre-order only and features a unique design and an exclusive vertical stand. According to a tweet from Microsoft’s Albert Penello, any Xbox One X pre-order listing you see is for the Scorpio Edition, whether or not the listing reflects that. There’s no word yet on when or if you’ll be able to pre-order the non-Scorpio Edition.
