  • How To Activate The New Destiny 2: Curse Of Osiris Heroic Public Event

Among the additions in Destiny 2‘s just-released Curse of Osiris expansion is a new Public Event on Mercury. Like those in the base game, players looking for an extra challenge (or simply better rewards) can activate a more difficult, Heroic version of this activity. However, doing so isn’t simply a matter of pressing a button–and it’s a more involved process than of any Public Event that we’ve seen before. Here’s what you need to do.

After completing Curse of Osiris’s first mission, head to Mercury and walk straight out of the Lighthouse. The Public Event starts near the two Vex who are standing at attention; stand near them and wait for the event flag to appear, then go toward the inner ring of the Fields of Glass. Enemies will begin spawning on the left and right sides from portals; kill them until an enemy with a yellow health bar named Keeper of Ages appears. It will drop orbs, which you’ll then need to take to two warp gates near where it spawned. Then repeat this process on the other side.

Next, you’ll want to wait for the catapult to turn around. Jump on top of it so you can reach one of the two islands on either side of the area. Kill the enemy named Keeper of Ages Present (or Past), pick up the orb it drops, and dunk it at the center of the island. You’ll then see a Vex object floating near the back of the platform. Shooting this will provide platforms for you to jump on. You’ll likely need more than one person to follow these platforms to the top of the island where they can activate a plate on the roof.

With the Heroic version of the event triggered, the Vex Gate Lord will spawn, this time with a shield. Kill the enemies around it and take the orbs they drop back to the gates from the first part of the event. Catapult up to the roof of the center area, and from here, you can dunk orbs to drop the Gate Lord’s shield, allowing you to damage it. Repeat the process until it’s dead to complete the event.

This Public Event is just one of the new pieces of content you’ll find in Curse of Osiris. There’s also new story content and Strikes on Mercury, as well as Crucible content and a variety of new weapons, gear, and cosmetics to acquire. Its release coincides with that of update 1.1.0, with another major Destiny 2 update due out next week.

  • Classic Manga Adaptation Alita: Battle Angel's First Footage Revealed

The first footage from the upcoming manga adaptation Alita: Battle Angel has been revealed. The movie is produced and written by James Cameron, and is set to hit theaters in July next year. A full trailer is expected tomorrow, but in the meantime we have this short teaser.

Not unexpectedly it gives very little away, but does provide a look at star Rosa Salazar’s robotic arms, plus Spectre star Christophe Waltz, who plays the cybersurgeon Dyson Ido. Check it out below:

Her journey begins tomorrow. #Alita pic.twitter.com/v5e6FTWQgU

    — Alita: Battle Angel (@Alitamovie) December 8, 2017

Alita: Battle Angel is directed by Sin City‘s Robert Rodriguez. Cameron intended to direct the movie for many years, but last year handed over the reins to Rodriguez, who is also known for the likes of From Dusk Till Dawn, Desperado, and the Spy Kids movies. It hits theaters on July 20, 2018.

In 2015, Cameron told Variety: “Robert and I have been looking for a film to do together for years, so I was pumped when he said he wanted to do Battle Angel. He’s very collaborative and we’re already like two kids building a go-kart, just having fun riffing creatively and technically.

“This project is near and dear to me, and there’s nobody I trust more than Robert, with his technical virtuosity and rebel style, to take over the directing reins. We’re looking forward to learning a lot from each other while we make a kick-ass epic.”

Battle Angel Alita is the futuristic story of an amnesiac cyborg who becomes a deadly bounty hunter. It was first published in 1990, and ran for nine volumes until 1995. In 1993, a two-episode anime version was produced, which adapted the first two volumes of the manga.

  • PS4 Flash Sale Is Live On PSN To Celebrate The Game Awards

As in past years, Sony has launched a Flash sale to coincide with the annual Game Awards. Dozens of PS4 games are on sale right now as a result, including many of the year’s biggest releases on the platform.

As is to be expected from a PSN sale, some of these prices aren’t as steep as those we’ve seen at physical stores in recent weeks, but if you’re looking for digital versions, this may be as good as it gets in the near future. In terms of big fall releases, Call of Duty: WWII is $50, NBA 2K18 is $42, South Park: The Fractured But Whole is $42, Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus is $30, Assassin’s Creed Origins is $42, and Destiny 2 is $39.

Some of 2017’s big PS4 console exclusives are also included. You can pick up Uncharted: The Lost Legacy for $20, Pyre for $12, Nioh for $20, and Persona 5 for $30. Other deals of note include The Witcher 3: Complete Edition for $25, Rez Infinite for $18, What Remains of Edith Finch for $15, Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice for $22.49, and Resident Evil 7: Biohazard for $30.

The Flash sale is open to all PSN members–you won’t need a PS Plus membership to take advantage of these sale prices. You can see everything on sale here. Unlike this week’s standard PS4 deals, these are not available for long, as the Flash sale ends ends on Saturday, December 9, at 8 AM PT / 11 AM ET.

  • Bayonetta 1 And 2 Headed To Nintendo Switch Early Next Year, Before Bayonetta 3

Bayonetta 1 and Bayonetta 2 are coming to Nintendo Switch in a bundle, Nintendo announced during The Game Awards tonight. The bundle comes with a physical copy of Bayonetta 2 for Switch, but the bundled copy of the first game is only available digitally.

The Bayonetta 1-2 bundle will launch for Switch on February 16. This wasn’t the only news about Bayonetta announced tonight, as Nintendo also confirmed that Bayonetta 3 is heading to Nintendo Switch as a platform exclusive. Few details were shared on that, but it again features the titular character.

The original Bayonetta launched in 2009 for PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and PC. The sequel, Bayonetta 2, was released in 2014 as a Wii U-exclusive. Both are critically acclaimed action titles developed by Platinum Games.

  • Zelda: Breath Of The Wild DLC Is Out Now On Switch–And It Has A Motorcycle

The much-anticipated second DLC expansion for The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild finally has a release date. As part of The Game Awards, Nintendo revealed that The Champions’ Ballad releases tonight for Nintendo Switch and Wii U. Exact timing wasn’t shared, but it should be available shortly for Expansion Pass owners.

The presentation began with producer Eiji Aonuma wearing a Champion’s Tunic on stage, swinging the Master Sword. From there, a trailer ran that showcased each of the titular champions, a variety of new shrines, and new gear. You’ll still play as Link, but he has a new tool at his disposal–and it’s a really cool one.

The trailer ends with a look at the Master Cycle Zero, essentially a motorcycle that he can ride around Hyrule. You’ll get your hands on it once you complete the new challenges that await in this DLC. Aonuma described it as essentially being Link’s Divine Beast.

We’d previously gotten some brief looks at The Champions’ Ballad and learned that you would still play as Link, despite the focus on the titular Champions. It will feature a brand-new dungeon, gear, and an original story.

The DLC is only available through Breath of the Wild’s $20 / £18 expansion pass, which also provides access to the already-released DLC. That also offers access to The Master Trials, new outfits, a harder difficulty mode, and the Trial of the Sword.

  • Superman Had Another Iconic Costume In Justice League Deleted Scene

Superman Had Another Iconic Costume In Justice League Deleted Scene

In the long build-up to the release of Justice League, there was some suggestion that we might see Superman in his iconic ‘dark’ costume from DC’s comic books. Although we now know that this costume did not appear in the finished movie, cinematographer Fabian Wagner has confirmed that actor Henry Cavill did shoot some scenes wearing it.

In an interview with Inverse, Wagner revealed that the footage was amongst several scenes filmed by original director Zack Snyder that were ultimately cut. “There were [quite a few scenes shot]. It’s a cool looking costume,” he said. “Sadly we didn’t see that either in the final cut. Zack takes his time with telling the stories and I’ve always liked that about his movies. There are a few scenes that I was very much looking forward to seeing which unfortunately got cut.”

Superman wore the design in The Death and Return of Superman comic books from the early ’90s. In those issues, Superman was killed by Doomsday, much as he was in last year’s movie Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, and returned with a dramatic new look.

    No Caption Provided

The rumors that we might see the costume in Justice League started when Cavill posted an image in Instagram in August 2016. There was also an official Justice League hat released that was based on the design.

Part of the reason that the costume ultimately didn’t appear in the final movie could be due to Zack Snyder’s departure from the production shortly after the end of principle photography due to a family tragedy. Joss Whedon took over as director, and the movie underwent extensive rewrites and reshoots throughout the summer.

Justice League has not been the big box office success that many were expecting. To date it has made $572 million at the worldwide box office, after nearly a month on release. This is well below this year’s Wonder Woman, which made $821.7 million, and Dawn of Justice, which made more than $873 million. In addition, it been rumored that Justice League had a production budget of $300 million, which is more than either of those other DC movies.

  • Rainbow Six Siege Has Hit 25M Players, Operation White Noise Update Released

Ubisoft has released the next big expansion for Rainbow Six Siege. With the game recently celebrating its two-year anniversary, we’ve now gotten Operation White Noise, which adds the usual array of new Operators (plus one extra), a new map, and other content to the shooter on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.

White Noise’s biggest additions are those Operators. With this being a South Korea-themed update, two of them hail from the 707th Special Mission Battalion. Dokkaebi is an Attacker whose unique gear is the Logic Bomb, which allows her to hack enemy devices and reveal their position with a loud noise. Vigil is a Defender who has access to the Electronic Rendering Cloak, or ERC-7, which prevents him from being seen on cameras. In addition to those two, we get a third Operator, this one from the canceled Poland expansion. Zofia Bosak uses the KS79 Lifeline, a grenade launcher capable of firing both explosive and concussive rounds.

As is typical of Siege expansions, these characters are now available to Year 2 season pass owners for free; everyone else will be able to purchase them using in-game currency beginning on December 12. All players do get something for free right away, as the new Mok Myeok Tower map is available to everyone. This is set near the top of a skyscraper observation tower, which is home to a variety of different environments and places an emphasis on verticality.

Besides the new content, Ubisoft hopes to make some improvements to the game with this update. This includes testing “new synchronization logic for some projectiles,” most notably including grenades. The goal is to prevent issues where the position of grenades suddenly change–such as one appearing right back in your face after you throw it. Additionally, your movement will now be factored in, so that throwing a grenade while you’re on the run will cause it to go further.

The rate of fire on handguns has also been increased and new UI elements should make it easier to track buffs and debuffs. And, of course, a variety of bug fixes have been made impacting specific maps, weapons, and Operators. You can check out the full list here. All of this coincides with Ubisoft announcing that Siege has eclipsed the 25 million players mark.
