  • In The Last Of Us 2 “No One Is Safe,” Director Says

Speaking this weekend during PlayStation Experience, Naughty Dog teased the story of The Last of Us: Part II and more. Asked by the interviewer if Joel is dead or alive, writer/director Neil Druckmann teased, “Everybody dies at some point.”

More seriously, he said no character is safe in The Last Of Us: Part II. “There are stakes–there are real stakes,” he explained. “With The Last of Us, no one is safe. We want people to go into The Last of Us: Part II, especially with this theme [of hate] and what we’re trying to say with this game, is knowing that no one is safe–not even these two [Joel and Ellie].”

Whereas the main theme of The Last Of Us 1 was love, the theme of the sequel is “hate,” and that was pretty clearly demonstrated in the brutal new trailer from Paris Games Week.

Also during the panel, writer Halley Gross (Westworld) talked about how she enjoyed the collaborative writing process that she’s been involved with to make “the best game ever” in The Last Of Us: Part II. Intriguingly, Druckmann said he was happy with the story beats he had in place for the start and end of the game, but he was struggling to come up with story elements to fill out the middle. Gross hit the ground running, Druckmann said, contributing great ideas for how the story should play out.

Druckmann wanted to give the PSX audience an example of what he meant by this, and, after fidgeting in his seat he relented and gave a very interesting tease. He said of writer Halley Gross, “After her first day, Halley goes home and says to her husband, ‘I think I got someone pregnant.’ And you’ll see what that means [in The Last Of Us: Part II].”

Also during the panel, Druckmann said that while the game has an overarching theme of hate, there are elements of hope, as well as some lighthearted scenes. Overall, the game tells a story about “pursuing justice; the positive and the negative and the really messy grey area that can occupy that,” Druckmann said.

Below are some other things Druckmann said about The Last Of Us: Part II during the PSX panel. You can watch the full panel above; it starts with a moving musical performance by Troy Baker and Ashley Johnson.

    • A “large part” of the game takes place in Seattle.
    • Naughty Dog is about 50-60 percent finished with The Last Of Us: Part II
    • Actress Laura Bailey, who plays an unnamed character, says she feels like she wants to throw up every day on set because she wants to live up to the expectations.
    • Fans of the first game might not like the sequel, Druckmann said.
    • “We will forever continue to make single-player, linear, narrative-based games,” Neil Druckmann said.
    • More details on The Last Of Us: Part II are coming at E3 2018.

  • Destiny 2 Xur Location Guide: Where Is Xur, What Exotics Is He Selling? (December 10)

Destiny 2 Xur Location Guide: Where Is Xur, What Exotics Is He Selling? (December 10)

Curse of Osiris has been released for Destiny 2, kicking off the shooter’s Season 2 and introducing a variety of new gear. Xur has now arrived, marking his first appearance during the new season to sell more Exotic armor and an Exotic weapon. For the second week in a row, he can be found in the same spot on Earth; here’s exactly where to find Xur and what he’s selling.

Xur has taken up temporary residence once again in the EDZ’s Winding Cove. To reach him, fast travel to the Winding Cove landing zone and jump on your Sparrow. You’ll see a winding road to your left–head up there, and you’ll come upon a cliff with a downed ship. Exit your sparrow and jump up the rocks to the right side. (You can also jump on the left and then walk across the top of the ship, but you’ll need to be fast, as this is technically out of bounds.) Once you reach the top, Xur will be right in front of you.

While his location might not be new, some of the gear he is selling is. Two of the four items for sale are from Curse of Osiris, including Titan leg armor. More notably, Xur’s weapon this week is the trace rifle Prometheus Lens–the same Prometheus Lens that is wrecking players in Crucible right now due to a bug. Bungie has said a fix is coming, but not until update 1.1.1 next week, meaning Crucible–and the newly launched Trials of the Nine–are going to be especially chaotic, albeit with everyone having a fair shot at using the gun. Here’s everything Xur has for sale this week:

    • Prometheus Lens (Trace Rifle) — 29 Legendary Shards
    • The Dragon’s Shadow (Hunter Chest Armor) — 23 Legendary Shards
    • Nezarec’s Sin (Warlock Helmet) — 23 Legendary Shards
    • Mk. 44 Stand Asides (Titan Leg Armor) — 23 Legendary Shards

That’s all Xur has for this week. Bungie previously announced that he would begin selling a new Three of Coins item, as well as Fated Engrams (which will provide you with an Exotic you don’t already own). However, it appears that will have to wait until next week, after the next patch.

The release of Curse of Osiris has resulted in non-DLC owners losing access to some activities in the game. With both Prometheus Lens and the Stand Asides being Osiris items, that means those looking to buy a weapon or Titan gear from Xur this week will have to own the DLC. Locking players out of some content–namely the Prestige Nightfall and Prestige Raid–means it’s now impossible to earn all Trophies and Achievements in the base game. Bungie has said it will address this issue, but it has not yet indicated if it will provide more content to non-DLC owners.

  • Star Wars: The Last Jedi Reviews – Read The First Reactions Here

The first people to see Star Wars: The Last Jedi are taking to Twitter to deliver their verdicts on the on the forthcoming film. Full reviews won’t be up for a few more days, but critics fresh out of the cinemas are offering their two cents, and we’ve gathered them up for you.

IGN’s Joshua Yehl was equally as enthused about The Last Jedi.

I am STUNNED by #StarWars #TheLastJedi. I gasped, I laughed, I screamed, I cried and I had the time of my life. Rian Johnson pulled it off, making what might be the best Star Wars movie ever. pic.twitter.com/0VE5M90dsH

    — Joshua Yehl (@JoshuaYehl) December 10, 2017

Terri Schwartz, meanwhile, praised the performances of The Last Jedi’s cast.

Not only are Carrie Fisher and Mark Hamill at their very best as Leia and Luke in this movie, but Daisy Ridley and Adam Driver blow Rey and Kylo Ren out of the park. I didn’t expect where those characters went and it’s my favorite part of the movie. #TheLastJedi

    — Terri Schwartz (@Terri_Schwartz) December 10, 2017

Comicbook.com’s James Viscardi went as far as saying The last Jedi is a new benchmark for the series.

No hyperbole – #TheLastJedi is the best #starwars movie. @rianjohnson and co nailed it

    — James Viscardi (@JimViscardi) December 10, 2017

Star Wars: The Last Jedi hits theaters on December 17. Its sequel, Star Wars: Episode IX, releases on December 20, 2019. Between those two movies, Solo–the Han Solo standalone film–will debut on May 25, 2018.

  • Cannibal-Slasher The Forest Is Coming To PS4 In 2018

This weekend’s PlayStation Experience has showed us a great number of new game reveals and announcements, and Endnight’s The Forest is no exception. Debuting with a brand-new trailer, the survival horror title is making its way to PS4 in Spring 2018.

After surviving a plane crash that lands in a forest, you’re left to fend for yourself. You’ll get to enjoy the simple things in life such as fishing, exploring, building forts and the like–but uh, sprinkle some flesh-starved cannibals in there for good measure.

Where this steps aside from the usual survival horror game is that it doesn’t have any sort of NPC guidance. There is no quest system, and there is no clear story line to follow. As the player, you truly are left to your own devices to figure out how the world works, and how to stay alive until the sun rises again.

We first saw The Forest in 2013 as an early access title for Steam on PC. Since then, the game still hasn’t quite reached a full launch, but it has been iterated on with guidance from its community. This weekend’s announcement did not detail if the PS4 launch will be a full or early access launch.

  • Let's Play Resident Evil 7 Part 5 – Resident Kinevil

Resident Evil 7: Biohazard has been netting award nominations at several outlets, and for good reason: it’s tense, terrifying, and one of the best entries in the long running series. So, the timing couldn’t be better for our playthrough.

And if you thought Mary Kish had an itchy trigger finger before this episode, you have no idea. In fact, one might say her trigger finger is more than itchy. In this episode of Resident Kinevil 7, Mary’s trigger finger essentially spasms every five minutes. It definitely doesn’t lead to her wasting any ammo, though, so that’s good. Anyway. Enjoy the episode!

To catch up on previous episodes of Resident Kinevil, where Mike Mahardy and former GameSpot member Mary Kish play through every numbered Resident Evil game, you can visit the show’s page here, or its YouTube channel here.

  • Destiny 2: Curse Of Osiris Locks Non-DLC Owners Out Of Some Its New Content

As was the case with The Dark Below DLC for the original Destiny, Bungie has effectively locked Destiny 2 owners out of some activities they previously had access to if they have not purchased Curse of Osiris. The expansion launched earlier this week and, among many other things, increased the level and Power level caps, resulting in a corresponding increase to level requirements for select modes. As a result, those who have not purchased Curse of Osiris suddenly find themselves unable to take part in things they could play just a few days ago.

This affects a number of areas in the game. The Prestige Nightfall has seen its Power level cap requirement increased to a point that non-DLC owners cannot reach, rendering it inaccessible to them. The same is true for the Prestige version of the Leviathan Raid, which means it’s not possible to earn the Achievement/Trophy for completing a Prestige Nightfall or Raid. Additionally, one of the three Meditations offered by Ikora this week is from Curse of Osiris, meaning those without the DLC only have two they can play. The same problem could potentially hit the standard Nightfall in the future; featuring an Osiris Strike would mean only DLC owners have access for that week.

The Heroic Strike playlist from Destiny 1 was also introduced to Destiny 2 for the first time this week. It seemingly could have been added for everyone to help compensate for the loss of the aforementioned modes, but it’s restricted to Curse of Osiris owners.

At this point, Crucible is largely unaffected, as new playlists have been introduced for Osiris owners to be able to play the new maps. It’s unclear at this point if, for instance, Trials will be limited to some players if an Osiris map is featured during a given event.

As you’d expect, players are incredibly angry, flocking to places like Reddit to express their frustration. Particularly in light of how long the game has been out–about three months, or closer to six weeks on PC–there are complaints about already having limited access to content. Players have described the expansion pass as feeling more like a subscription fee required to continue making full use of the game, rather than an optional DLC.

This anger surfaces not long after another incident incited the rage of the fanbase. Players recently discovered an undisclosed system that throttled the amount of XP that could be earned from certain activities. Bungie subsequently disabled this and vowed to improve its communication, though this latest discovery involving the DLC has further hurt the studio’s reputation with fans.

  • GTA 5 New Doomsday Heist Revealed, And It's GTA Online's First Since 2015

GTA 5 New Doomsday Heist Revealed, And It's GTA Online's First Since 2015

Rockstar has continued to consistently roll out new content for Grand Theft Auto V‘s online mode, GTA Online, since launch. It’s set to get one of its biggest pieces of content to date with the launch of a new online heist that arrives next week on PS4, Xbox One, and PC.

The Doomsday Heist is described as a “massive new adventure” by Rockstar. Players will team up with an “unlikely alliance” between some of the game’s characters to save San Andreas from what appears to be the threat of nuclear annihilation. Here’s the plot description shared by Rockstar:

“A billionaire tech mogul, an idealistic intelligence agent, a socially awkward conspiracy theorist, and a neurotic supercomputer have been forced into an unlikely alliance to save San Andreas from total annihilation. As apocalyptic threats mount from enemies unknown, you and your criminal crew are enlisted to untangle mysteries and eradicate threats spanning from the bustling streets of downtown Los Santos to the ocean floor and all the way to the inner depths of Mount Chiliad in an epic new online adventure.”

    No Caption Provided

Rockstar also shared the trailer above, which teases out some of the heist’s highlights. It looks like you’ll break into top-secret bases, go on bombing runs, and drive a flying car. The promotional image above also features a jetpack and a shot of that same car underwater that looks reminiscent of the James Bond movie The Spy Who Loved Me.

The Doomsday Heist will be released for free to all players on PS4, Xbox One, and PC on December 12. It marks the first heist added to the game since online heists were introduced in 2015. That makes this a particularly notable launch. It’s also the first since many new system and elements were introduced, such as this year’s aircraft-centric update.

  • Destiny 2 Curse Of Osiris Forge Guide: How To Unlock The New Vex Weapons And Lost Prophecies

One of the key post-campaign activities for Destiny 2 players to check out after finishing the new Curse of Osiris DLC expansion’s campaign are Lost Prophecies. Completing these reward you with unique new, Vex-style weapons, but you don’t immediately gain access to any of this. Here’s how to unlock Lost Prophecies.

After finishing the campaign, speak with Brother Vance at the Lighthouse on Mercury. He’ll provide you with a mission to complete some Adventures. Once you’ve done three of them, you’ll unlock access to Heroic Adventures. These are more difficult versions of standard Adventures with a recommended Power level of 300 and Nightfall-style Modifiers to contend with. While difficult, you can thankfully respawn. Completing one of these will earn you a variety of rewards (including a new shader and emblem), and you’ll be able to speak with Vance to move things along.

At this point, he’ll provide you with your first Lost Prophecy quest. You’ll receive an item that needs to have certain requirements fulfilled; for instance, you might have to farm Heroic Public Events or chests to obtain a specific type of item that must be consumed. (This can take the form of a single blue item, or a green version–in which case you’ll need to acquire 10 and then trade them into Vance.) Once you’re done that, head back to the Lighthouse, speak with Vance, and activate the Forge. From here, you can craft the first of the new Vex weapons–check out one we got above. It’s unclear at this point exactly how often you can repeat all of this, but there are a number of weapons and Lost Prophecy “verses” to complete.

Even aside from these, there are numerous new weapons in Curse of Osiris to obtain. There’s also a variety of new gear, new Exotics, and tons of new Eververse cosmetics to obtain through the newly refreshed Bright engrams. As noted above, the expansion also introduces a new (if somewhat brief) campaign set on Mercury, additional Crucible content, and more.
