  • Spider-Man PS4 Has No Mictrotransactions And Is Locked At 30 FPS

We finally know that Insomniac’s new Spider-Man game for PlayStation 4 is coming out in September. But that’s not all we learned about the anticipated Sony exclusive today.

Game Informer asked creative director Bryan Intihar 114 rapid-fire questions, and among the things he revealed is that there are no microtransactions and that the game is locked at 30 FPS on PS4 and PS4 Pro. Additionally, he confirmed that Mary Jane is a playable character.

You can watch the full video here at Game Informer, while we’ve rounded up some of the notable takeaways below.

    • The game will look and run a little better on PS4 Pro
    • But it’s locked at 30 FPS on both systems
    • Mary Jane is a playable character, and she will “surprise a lot of people.” At this point in the story, she knows that Peter Parker is Spider-Man.
    • The game’s open world is “several times” bigger than that of Insomniac’s last big game, Sunset Overdrive.
    • Will there be microtransactions? “Hell no.”
    • Will we see Uncle Ben’s death? “Hell no.”
    • DLC is planned for after launch.
    • There is a crafting system.
    • You can take selfies with civilians and high-five them.

In other news, Insomniac has announced premium versions of Spider-Man, along with some DLC. The $150 Collector’s Edition comes with a statue, artbook, and in-game content. Check out GameSpot’s further coverage here to see all the available versions.

  • God Of War PS4 Dev Responds To Criticisms About Changes

God Of War PS4 Dev Responds To Criticisms About Changes

The new God of War game is coming to PS4 on April 20. A reboot of sorts for the series, the game takes Kratos (and his son Atreus) to Scandinavia and mixes up the combat with some welcome changes. Sony is also saying the game will show a softer side of Kratos, a man dealing with his violent tendencies while also trying to raise a son. Basically, the game is doing some new things in an attempt to shake things up and reinvigorate the long-running franchise. Not everyone is thrilled with these changes, however.

Game director Cory Barlog told Kotaku that he’s aware of the criticisms and the campaigns some are staging against the game. But he urges that you give the game a fair shot before passing judgment. He added that Sony has intentionally held back showing too much of the game because he wants players to “experience this game as a whole.”

“I know there are a lot of people who are out there saying, ‘It’s totally different. They’re changing a lot of things. Hashtag Not My God Of War. Hashtag Cancel My Pre-Order,’” Barlog said. “But I think a lot of people have to play it.”

He added: “We’ve been very restrictive of the information and what we’re showing visually, and part of that is my paranoia. I want people to experience this game as a whole. Everybody who made this game–or a good portion of this team–has been a part of God of War from the very beginning. Nothing has changed cynically or under pressure or just willy-nilly. All of us put a lot of heart and soul into this game, and the DNA of what this franchise is still pumps through the blood of this game.”

At the end of March, Sony announced that God of War had gone gold, meaning development on the game is finished, and it’s ready to be sent off for manufacturing. It is scheduled to release for PS4 on April 20. It will launch alongside a special edition PS4 Pro bundle that features a God of War-themed console and some digital content. It also gets a performance mode with PS4 Pro even if you don’t have a 4K display.

  • Next Indiana Jones Movie Is Harrison Ford's Last One, Spielberg Says

Next Indiana Jones Movie Is Harrison Ford's Last One, Spielberg Says

The upcoming fifth Indiana Jones movie will be series star Harrison Ford’s last in the series, director Steven Spielberg says. Speaking to The Sun, Spielberg said he is “pretty sure” that Ford will walk away after the next movie, though he expects the franchise to continue.

“This will be Harrison Ford’s last Indiana Jones movie, I am pretty sure, but it will certainly continue after that,” Spielberg said.

The fifth Indiana Jones movie was announced in 2016, at which time Lucasfilm confirmed that Ford and Spielberg were attached to star and direct, respectively. In September 2017, screenwriter David Koepp talked about how he and Spielberg were “mostly happy” with the current draft, and that the film will follow “some precious artifact that they’re all looking for.” He also confirmed that Indy’s son Mutt, played by Shia LaBeouf in 2008’s Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, will not return for this latest film.

Back in March 2016, Ford spoke about why he was returning to the role of the iconic archeologist for the fifth time. “The opportunity to work with Steven again on this character which has brought pleasure to so many,” he said. “Not to mention me. It’s great fun to play this character. It’s great fun to work with Steven, I’m looking forward to it.”

Although Kingdom of the Crystal Skull was considered a disappointment by many fans, it still grossed more than $786 million worldwide. Altogether, the series has brought in nearly $2 billion at the global box office across all four releases.

Going back to The Sun’s interview, Spielberg added that it is time now for Indiana Jones the character to take “a different form,” and this could be with a woman in the lead role. “We’d have to change the name from Jones to Joan. And there would be nothing wrong with that,” Spielberg said.

The Indiana Jones series premiered with 1981’s Raiders of the Lost Ark, which was followed up by Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom (1984), Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade (1989), and Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull (2008).

  • Far Cry 5 Is The Series’ Fastest Selling Game

Far Cry 5 has become the fastest-selling game in franchise history in its opening week, according to Ubisoft. The company claimed $310M USD in its first week, double the opening sales of previous franchise record-holder Far Cry 4. That also makes it the second-biggest launch ever for Ubisoft, behind The Division.

The announcement also mentions a few other launch week stats. Far Cry 5 was streamed for more than 55,000 hours. Players were were ambushed by 8,651 skunks, caught 5.1 million fish, and spent 1.1 million hours with Cheeseburger the bear. The most popular gun for hire was the pilot Nick Rye, while the most popular animal companion was Boomer the dog–which makes sense, given that he’s a very good boy.

We heard just this week that Far Cry 5 had hit the top spot on the UK sales charts, so this announcement isn’t too surprising. This is the first time the open-world series has taken place in America. It’s set in the fictional Hope County, Montana after an attempt to arrest the leader of a doomsday cult goes awry.

In GameSpot’s Far Cry 5 review, Edmond Tran praised the vast open-world exploration and precise gunplay, though he found some story missions to be a chore. Fortunately there appears to be lots to see and do, including some clever Easter eggs to find. Currently the first live event has you burning animals to a crisp. • Another US Trailer for Martin Freeman's Zombie Daddy Movie 'Cargo'

Another US Trailer for Martin Freeman's Zombie Daddy Movie 'Cargo'

    Cargo Trailer

“If I don’t make it to the hills, you’re all I’ve got…” Netflix has released another, additional US trailer for the horror thriller Cargo, from directors Ben Howling and Yolanda Ramke. We already posted the Australian trailer for this a few days ago, and they’ve followed up with this preview which plays a bit differently – more about the zombie hunters than the survival of this guy. Martin Freeman stars as a father trying to save his child at all costs in a post-apocalyptic world. The film’s full cast includes Anthony Hayes, Susie Porter, Caren Pistorius, Kris McQuade, Natasha Wanganeen, Bruce R. Carter, Simone Landers, and David Gulpilil. This does look fairly entertaining, but it doesn’t seem to be any reinvention of the zombie genre, just another zombie story. This trailer does more clearly show the 48 hour countdown. • Weird First Trailer for Indie Film 'The Cleanse' Starring Johnny Galecki

Weird First Trailer for Indie Film 'The Cleanse' Starring Johnny Galecki

    The Cleanse Trailer

“We all have our demons.” What the heck is this? Vertical Entertainment has revealed an official trailer for a very weird indie film titled The Cleanse, formerly known as The Master Cleanse when it first premiered two years ago at the SXSW Film Festival. Described as a “darkly humorous, weird, and soulful fantasy that examines the inner demons in all of us”, the film is about a heartbroken man who attends a spiritual retreat, only to discover that the course releases more than toxins and traumatic experiences. Johnny Galecki (from “The Big Bang Theory”) stars, with a cast including Anna Friel, Oliver Platt, Kyle Gallner, and Anjelica Huston. I actually really like the concept of this – I’m curious to see how he deals with his ugly “inner demon” and cleans it up. Might be cool? Or maybe not after waiting two years for a release. We’ll see. ›››

Insanely Awesome First Red Band Trailer for Sci-Fi Feature 'Upgrade'

    Upgrade Trailer

“I cannot allow us to be killed.” OMFG. This looks awesome!! BH Tilt has dropped the first trailer for a sci-fi action thriller titled Upgrade, which premiered to some of the best buzz at the SXSW Film Festival. I kept hearing about this one, and I can’t wait to see it. Upgrade a “thrilling and hyper violent vision of the future”, written & directed by Leigh Whannell, co-creator of Saw and Insidious. Set in the near-future, technology controls nearly all aspects of life. But when Grey, a self-identified technophobe, has his world turned upside down, his only hope for revenge is an experimental computer chip implant called Stem. Logan Marshall-Green stars, with a cast including Betty Gabriel, Michael M. Foster, Harrison Gilbertson, and Benedict Hardie. I’m so in for this, bring it on! Love the way the camera tilts when he stands up. Hell yes. ›››

  • Kevin Hart & Tiffany Haddish in First Trailer for Comedy 'Night School'

Kevin Hart & Tiffany Haddish in First Trailer for Comedy 'Night School'

    Night School Trailer

“If you’re not going to do the work, drop the class.” Universal has released the first official trailer for the new comedy Night School, the latest from Girls Trip director Malcolm D. Lee. The comedy stars Kevin Hart and Tiffany Haddish, and is about a group of troublemakers who are forced to attend night school in hopes that they’ll pass the GED exam to finish high school. Yeah, seriously. But it’s the two big hit comedy actors of the moment – Kevin Hart and Tiffany Haddish – so of course it’s going to be a riot! Right, right…? The full cast of Night School includes Keith David, Mary Lynn Rajskub, Rob Riggle, Taran Killam, and Romany Malco. Yes, I know this kind of comedy isn’t for me, but man, this looks bad. Really bad. But maybe some folks will enjoy it? Who knows. You’ve been warned – you know what you’re getting with this. ›››

  • New US Trailer for Cult Sci-Fi 'How to Talk to Girls at Parties' from A24

New US Trailer for Cult Sci-Fi 'How to Talk to Girls at Parties' from A24

How to Talk to Girls at Parties Trailer

“They must be from California…” A24 has debuted another trailer for John Cameron Mitchell’s adaptation of Neil Gaiman’s How to Talk to Girls at Parties, even though we’ve seen a few international trailers previously. HtTtGaP is totally wacky cult sci-fi film that premiered at the Cannes Film Festival this summer to mixed reviews. The film stars Tony-winner Alex Sharp as Enn, a boy from the dreary London suburb of Croydon. Set in the late 70s, it’s a punk rock-infused, horny-adventure about a group of punk kids who discover a secret convent of aliens visiting planet Earth. The cast includes Elle Fanning, Nicole Kidman, Ruth Wilson, Matt Lucas, and Tom Brooke. I did not care for this film at all, and while this is a good marketing push from A24, it’s going to be forgotten, which is cool because it will be a cult classic even faster. ›››
