  • Fortnite PS4 Update Out Now [Update: Epic Investigating A Problem With Patch]

Update: Fortnite developer Epic Games has stated it is investigating an issue with the new patch–which is out now–that causes the update to weigh in at 10 GB. The company says this file size is “unexpected,” and they apologized for the inconvenience. Original story follows.

Fortnite is getting a new patch on PlayStation 4–but it’s not a big, feature-rich update. Instead, this patch will fix an unspecified crash issue occurring on Sony’s platform.

The patch will be released at midnight Pacific tonight, which is 3 AM ET / 8 AM BST / 5 PM AET. Thankfully, the servers are staying up as the patch is released; there will be no downtime. The update is specific to PS4, with no equivalent update coming to PC, Xbox One, or mobile since those platforms weren’t experiencing the problem the update fixes.

PS4 players: A patch is coming tomorrow at 3am ET (0700 GMT) to fix a crash that was occurring.
    No downtime is required.

    — Fortnite (@FortniteGame) April 3, 2018

The last major update for Fortnite came out earlier this week. It added a bunch of content to both the game’s Battle Royale and Save the World modes, including a new limited-time event for the former called Sniper Shootout v2.

The patch also added the Guided Missile for Battle Royale and an Easter-themed quest line for the paid Save the World mode. It also marks the start of a new set of weekly challenges for Battle Pass owners.

  • Shape Of Water, Hellboy Director Lands Big Horror/Sci-Fi Movie Deal

Shape Of Water, Hellboy Director Lands Big Horror/Sci-Fi Movie Deal

Guillermo Del Toro has been one of the leading filmmakers in sci-fi, fantasy, and horror for the past two decades, with movies such as Pan’s Labyrinth, Hellboy, and Pacific Rim helping him build a devoted fanbase. While Pacific Rim was a big budget blockbuster, it is The Shape of Water that has brought him the biggest acclaim, as well as this year’s Best Movie Oscar. It has now been announced that Del Toro has struck a deal with Shape of Water producers Fox Searchlight to develop a slate of genre movies.

As reported by Deadline, Fox Searchlight signed the deal after being pitched by Del Toro. The movies to be developed will be “horror, sci-fi, and fantasy,” and will be a mix of projects written, produced, and sometimes directed by the filmmaker. The first movie to be released under banner will be Antlers, which is described as “a story about an elementary school teacher who takes in a troubled student that harbors a mysterious family secret with deadly consequences.”

In a statement, Del Toro said, “For the longest time, I’ve hoped to find an environment in which I can distribute, nurture, and produce new voices in smart, inventive genre films and channel my own. In Fox Searchlight, I’ve found a real home for live-action production–a partnership based on hard work, understanding of each other and, above all, faith. After the wonderful experience I had with Fox Searchlight on The Shape of Water, I am honored to have the opportunity to continue the relationship.”

The future of Fox Searchlight has been under some uncertainty since it was confirmed that Disney is in the process of buying all of parent studio Fox’s entertainment assets. Searchlight has had one of its strongest years for a long time, with both The Shape of Water and Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri scoring major awards success. However, some have questioned whether Disney will be interested in continuing to produce adult-orientated movies such as these, which despite the critical acclaim and modest budgets, only have limited audience appeal. However, the type of sci-fi and horror movies that Del Toro specialises in do potentially have bigger commercial potential.

  • Sea Of Thieves Servers Down For Maintenance On Xbox One, PC

Sea of Thieves‘ servers are currently down for maintenance, and they will be for some time. Players will be unable to access the game on Xbox One and PC until 6 AM PT / 9 AM ET / 2 PM BST / 11 PM AET.

Developer Rare hasn’t stated a reason for the maintenance, and it isn’t clear whether you’ll be required to download a title update to play following the downtime, as was the case after a similar maintenance window last week. The pirate game has encountered a number of problems since launch, including delayed Achievement unlocks and connectivity issues, and these are listed as ongoing issues on Rare’s website. It’s unclear whether the ongoing maintenance will solve those issues.

Rare has also canceled its planned change of introducing a death cost in Sea of Thieves. The developer had planned to charge a small amount of in-game gold for each time you died, but this has now been canned following fan feedback.

In our Sea of Thieves review, critic Peter Brown awarded the game a 6/10. “There may come a time when Sea of Thieves is able to entice me back,” he wrote. “And I imagine that will be with a mix of new mission types and hopefully the promise of rewards that allow for new types of interactions, if not improve my character’s capabilities. For now, it’s a somewhat hollow game that can be fun for a handful of hours when played with friends, and something worth trying out if you happen to be an Xbox Game Pass subscriber. Even though it’s hard to wholeheartedly recommend, I like enough of what I see to hold out hope that things will eventually improve as the game continues to be patched and updated with new content.”

  • Fortnite Week 4 Challenges: All Ice Cream Truck Locations And More

A new Fortnite update is now available on PC, PS4, and Xbox One, but in addition to checking out the new stuff it has to offer, Battle Royale players have some other things they can now do. Fortnite‘s week 4 challenges recently rolled out for Battle Pass owners, and some of them might prove to be tricky.

The full list of challenges is outlined below; one requires you getting the right weapon and utilizing it efficiently (dealing a specific amount of damage with a sniper rifle), while another has you tracking down chests in the Flush Factory or supply drops around the map. There are two in particular that you might need some help with.

The first of these is not labeled as Hard; you’re told to visit five different ice cream trucks. These are scattered around the map–there are more than five in total, with a handful located right inside major locations like Tomato Town, Pleasant Park, and Retail Row. Others are in less obvious locations, though you can track them all down with this map shared by Reddit user imkairu.

What is labeled as Hard is the challenge that reads, “Search between a Vehicle Tower, Rock Sculpture, and a Circle of Hedges.” That somewhat vague clue is pointing you toward a point in the southeast corner of the map, in the G9 section. It’s just on the edge of some water–you can see it in this screenshot from Reddit user __Kaneda__, or see the map they provided here.

You can check out all of the week 4 challenges below. Keep in mind that, despite being added weekly, you have the entirety of Season 3 to finish these out. That means you can also go back to complete previous weekly challenges. Week 5’s challenges are now available.

Weekly challenges are only available to those who own the new Season 3 Battle Pass, which costs 950 V-Bucks. It expands the number of optional tasks you’re given in Battle Royale and allows you to unlock more items like outfits, gliders, and emotes. The Season 3 Battle Pass also includes new types of items, such as loading screens and Back Bling. Check out our gallery of Battle Pass rewards for a look at everything you can get.

James Franco in First Bad Trailer for 'Mad Max' Rip-Off 'Future World'

    Future World Trailer

“It was at that moment I became aware of exactly how different I was.” Lionsgate has released a trailer for a movie called Future World, a post-apocalyptic, sci-fi action western that looks quite a bit like a straight-up rip-off of Mad Max. Yep, really. The title also sounds like it’s a spin-off of “Westworld”, but thankfully these two are different. This looks so bad I really don’t even want to give it any attention, but only just to be amazed at how much of a rip-off this is – sand motorcycles and grungy cars and everything. James Franco co-directs, and stars along with Milla Jovovich, Lucy Liu, Margarita Levieva, Suki Waterhouse, Method Man, Snoop Dogg, Elisha Henig, and Scott Haze. It might just be a bad trailer, it also might just be a bad movie. Whatever the case, this looks downright horrible and I hope film fans stay far, far away. ›››

  • Official US Trailer for the Magnificent, Poetic Documentary 'Mountain'

Official US Trailer for the Magnificent, Poetic Documentary 'Mountain'

    Mountain Trailer

“A journey to the world’s highest peaks.” Greenwich Entertainment has debuted an official US trailer for the documentary Mountain, from Sherpa director Jennifer Peedom. This was first conceived as a live experience with the Australian Chamber Orchestra, where you watch and listen to them play the score live. It is also being released as a feature documentary, stopping by the London and Helsinki Film Festivals. And it’s finally arriving in US theaters this May. Peedom collected the most mesmerizing and incredible footage of mountains and mountain climbing you’ve ever seen, and put it all together in this poetic doc about these majestic, monumental beauties of Earth. In addition, there’s a narration by Willem Dafoe and a stunning orchestral score. I had a chance to see this last year and it’s truly spectacular, packed with amazing footage. ›››

Four Friends Search for a Jazz Legend in LA in 'Flock of Four' Trailer

    Flock of Four Trailer

“Does your mother know you’re going down there on a Friday night?” Abramorama has released the first trailer for a hazy, indie drama titled Flock of Four, the feature directorial debut of director Gregory Caruso. We haven’t heard much about this yet, but it actually seems like a nifty story for a film, and it looks pretty darn good. Set over the course of one night in 1959, the film follows four best friend teens who drive around Los Angeles searching for one of their music idols, legendary jazz musician Pope Dixon (a fictional character inspired by real musicians), as played by Reg E. Cathey (who passed away in February). The cast includes Braeden Lemasters, Uriah Shelton, Isaac Jay, and Dylan Riley Snyder as the friends, as well as Shane Harper, Coco Jones, and Nadji Jeter. I like the vintage look and feel to this. Take a look. ›››
