Sitges Review: Krzykowski's 'The Man Who Killed Hitler & Then Bigfoot'

The Man Who Killed Hitler & Then The Bigfoot Review

Not all heroes live a heroic life. Not all heroes get a big parade and go on talk shows and end up in history books. The Man Who Killed Hitler & Then The Bigfoot is one of most undefinable films of this year, no question. It’s part drama, it’s part action film, it’s part horror, but at it’s core it’s really a character study about a lonely man at the end of his life looking back on everything. Sam Elliott plays Calvin Barr, indeed the very man who killed Hitler and then the Bigfoot. He spends his days drinking at a bar and relaxing with his adorable yellow lab dog, because no one knows that he killed Hitler. It was covered up by Germany and America, because there was more at stake. As he states in the film, he just killed a man that day, that’s all. And he has had to spend his life dealing with the substantial feelings, as they slowly chip away at his psyche. ›››

The Possession of Hannah Grace Trailer

“You know what they say: if an exorcism isn’t completed, evil will find a new vessel.” Sony has unveiled the trailer for a horror thriller titled The Possession of Hannah Grace, another scary possession movie, this one directed by Dutch filmmaker Diederik Van Rooijen (Bollywood Hero, Stella’s Oorlog, Daylight). When a cop who is just out of rehab takes the graveyard shift in a city hospital morgue, she faces a series of bizarre, violent events caused by an evil entity in one of the corpses. Shay Mitchell (seen on “Pretty Little Liars” and “The Heiresses”) stars as the cop, named Megan Reed, and the full cast includes Stana Katic, Grey Damon, Jacob Ming-Trent, Louis Herthum, and Kirby Johnson as the titular Hannah Grace. This reminds me a lot of The Autopsy of Jane Doe, but with a few different twists. And plenty of creepiness. ›››

Fantastic Fest Review: Ali Abbasi's Strange & Beautiful Fantasy 'Border'

    Border Review

The concept of strange love and finding the one person in the world meant for only you is a strong one when it comes to cinematic storytelling. These films are often tough to recommend outright, the weirder nature of some of the entries in this category being a little too outside the box for most mainstream moviegoers. For the cinephile, however, the results of these films are often magical. So, too, is the case with the Swedish film, Border (aka Gräns), a film that tells a story that is, you guessed it, full of strange, creative wonder and eye-opening reveals about our world. Co-written and directed by Ali Abbasi, Border is a film that not everyone will be able to wrap their expectations around, but one that comes with undeniable results for those who do. ›››

    All Creatures Here Below Trailer

“There’s no way you’re going to get out of this without doing some time…” The first trailer has debuted for an indie drama titled All Creatures Here Below, premiering at the DTLA Film Festival this month. From a screenplay written by actor David Dastmalchian, who also co-stars in this, the film is directed by Collin Schiffli (Animals) and is about a desperate young couple on the run who seek refuge in Kansas City. The two are deeply connected, but struggle to survive on nothing with hopes of making a family, complicating their journey to freedom. Karen Gillan co-stars with Dastmalchian, and the small indie cast includes Jennifer Morrison, Richard Cabral, and David Koechner. This looks like a good film to see these two talented actors give raw, intimate, honest performances without any heavy make-up or Hollywood glitz. Take a look. ›››

Watch: Stephan Zlotescu's Next Proof-of-Concept Pitch 'Product Wars'

    Product Wars Short Film

“I don’t feel guilty… we brought this on ourselves.” A few years ago, we featured a stunning sci-fi short film titled True Skin, which went on to become a huge hit online then was picked up by Warner Bros to be made into a feature film. The creator of that short, filmmaker Stephan Zlotescu, is back with another “proof of concept” pitch for his next project – titled Product Wars. This one also integrates CG creations into real-world footage, taking us into an alternate history where mascots and marketing characters are genetically manufactured to actually exist. It’s a bit creepy, and Stephan pushes this concept into the apocalyptic realm. It’s a cautionary tale about consumerism and marketing and how bad it can/will get. Definitely worth a look. ›››

  • Ansel Elgort in Full Trailer for Two Minds in One Body Film 'Jonathan'

Ansel Elgort in Full Trailer for Two Minds in One Body Film 'Jonathan'

    Jonathan Trailer

“Two Minds. One Body. No Way Out.” Well Go USA has released an official trailer for an indie drama titled Jonathan, a “sci-fi-tinged” story about two people stuck inside of one body. Ansel Elgort stars in this as two brothers living separate lives. Jonathan leaves the office everyday at noon. When he gets home, he goes to sleep. Every morning he wakes up and there is a breakfast prepared for him along with a video telling him about the second part of his day. It all gets disrupted when they both fall for the same woman. Jonathan also stars Suki Waterhouse, Patricia Clarkson, Matt Bomer, and Douglas Hodge. This looks quite cool, it seems complicated to balance both of these characters and still craft a coherent story. This looks like a clever film and I’m curious to check it out, despite not hearing much (good or bad) about it. Watch below. ›››

  • Meet Bella in First Official Trailer for 'A Dog's Way Home' Adaptation

Meet Bella in First Official Trailer for 'A Dog's Way Home' Adaptation

    A Dog's Way Home Trailer

“I was very far from home, but I knew Lucas was waiting for me…” Sony Pictures has unveiled a trailer for a new dog movie titled A Dog’s Way Home, adapted from the book of the same name (by the author of A Dog’s Purpose) about the epic 400-mile journey of a dog takes to find her way back to her owner. Jonah Hauer-King plays Luke, the hooman who cares for the dog Bella. The full cast of humans includes Bryce Dallas Howard, Ashley Judd, Alexandra Shipp, Edward James Olmos, and Wes Studi. I’m not fond of the voice for the dog and obviously CGI action on her journey seems a bit much. I am expecting this could turn out like a modern day version of Homeward Bound, because that Disney movie still makes me cry. But I’m not too sure based on all of this footage, but I have still have hope. Dogs will always be the best. ›››

  • Full French Trailer for Claire Denis' 'High Life' with Robert Pattinson

Full French Trailer for Claire Denis' 'High Life' with Robert Pattinson

    High Life Trailer

“It’s just a new religion for you.” Wild Bunch has released the first full-length French trailer for High Life, the latest from acclaimed French filmmaker Claire Denis (Beau Travail, 35 Shots of Rum, White Material, Bastards). The film is in English, so the trailer is also in English. This low budget sci-fi drama premiered at the Toronto Film Festival, and is also playing at the New York and Sitges Film Festivals. The story is about a man, played by Robert Pattinson, stuck on a spaceship heading to a distant star. He tries to interact with the rest of the crew who are slowly going crazy on the extended voyage. Reactions from the festivals have been divisive, with extreme love and hate for this super artistic, slow burn sci-fi drama. The cast includes Juliette Binoche, André Benjamin, Mia Goth, Lars Eidinger, Agata Buzek, and Claire Tran. This trailer doesn’t reveal everything, but it does have plenty of cool footage that makes this film look real good. ›››

First Teaser Trailer for Animated Doggie Comedy 'The Queen's Corgi'

    The Queen's Corgi Trailer

“In 2019, you’re cordially invited to meet the biggest rascal of the Royal Family.” Oy vey. Lionsgate UK has released the first teaser trailer for a cute animated comedy titled The Queen’s Corgi, made by Belgian animation studio nWave Pictures and the same director who most recently made the animated film The Son of Bigfoot. nWave’s The Queen’s Corgi is indeed about (one of) the Queen’s (many) corgis, a lovable little puppy named Rex. One day he loses track of his mistress and stumbles across a clan with dogs of all kinds confronting and fighting each other. During his epic journey to return to the queen, Rex falls in love and discovers his true self. The voice cast hasn’t been revealed yet, only this teaser trailer and a few posters. As cute as this looks, I have a feeling it’s going to be so bad. Most of the films made by nWave turn out terrible. ›››
