  • Studio Head Jade Raymond Leaves EA

Studio Head Jade Raymond Leaves EA

EA announced some big organizational changes today. Jade Raymond, the head of EA Motive, the studio focused on Star War properties, is leaving her position.

During Raymond’s time, Battlefront II was released, but we knew the studio was also working on multiple projects, including an open-world Star Wars game, a new action-adventure IP, and a mysterious project. Raymond joined back in 2015 to head a multi-purpose studio, which would create its own IP and provide support for other EA projects. Raymond previously worked at Ubisoft as producer on the Assassin’s Creed series and executive producer on both Watch Dogs and Splinter Cell: Blacklist. We do not know Raymond’s plans at this time for her next venture.

We do, however, know Samantha Ryan will be taking Raymond’s place. Ryan has an impressive resume, previously working as president of Monolith and as SVP of product and development at Warner Bros. Ryan has been helping lead other teams at EA, from BioWare to Maxis.

EA issued the following statement to Game Informer

EA Studios is focused on bringing more creative new games and content to players. Laura Miele and her team have taken several steps internally to better support our game makers in this pursuit, such as expanding Samantha Ryan’s portfolio to lead additional studios, including Motive. Samantha is known for driving creative design and supporting game teams so they can bring their visions to life. She is a deeply experienced game-maker with a gameography that spans from The Sims to Batman: Arkham City to No One Lives Forever to the highly-anticipated Anthem. With this change, Jade Raymond has decided to leave Electronic Arts. In her time with us, Jade helped to build great teams, and our projects underway at Motive and other studios continue unchanged. We’re appreciative of all of her efforts, and we wish Jade all the best as she moves on to her next adventure. We are driving greater creativity into everything we do across EA Studios, and we’ll look forward to sharing more in the months to come.

EA Motive has seen its share of ups and downs, announcing the closure of Visceral Games and putting an end to its single-player, linear Star Wars game. The project is currently being revamped to go in a more open-world direction.

A few months ago when we talked to Raymond, she discussed some road bumps with Motive’s new IP. Raymond noted some people who joined the project early on already left and the game still hadn’t left the conceptual phase.

  • Fortnite's Save The World Mode Not Going Free To Play In 2018

Fortnite's Save The World Mode Not Going Free To Play In 2018

In a “State of Development” post, Fortnite developer Epic Games has announced that the game’s Save the World mode (which to this point has cost money) will not become free to play this year as was originally planned.

The delay is happening because Epic wants to keep working on the mode, including “a broad set of features, reworks, and backend system scaling” before it makes the change.

In other Save the World mode news, the hero system is being updated – upping the number of hero slots from three to six – and more customizable loadouts are also being worked on. Epic says it have more details on these changes in the future.

Finally, the State of Development blog post discusses an investment refund feature, this year’s Fortnitemares event (where you can get Brainiac Jonesy and Skull Ranger Ramirez for free), and discounts on Founder’s packs. Click on the source link below for more info.

  • First Look At Jump Force's Original Villain, Kane

First Look At Jump Force's Original Villain, Kane

Bandai Namco has revealed Kane, the villain of their upcoming manga crossover game Jump Force. Kane, who is not from an existing series and has been made specifically for the game, seems to be responsible for the melding of worlds that is bringing all the Jump characters together with each other and into the real world.

“This world needs to be remade… And in order to do that, it must first be unmade.” Take a closer look Kane, a villainous character coming to JUMP FORCE!

Excited to see more of this original character by Akira Toriyama? Check out #JUMPFORCE today: https://t.co/tpmTsXlGz5 pic.twitter.com/us8IoyQkFb

    — Bandai Namco US (@BandaiNamcoUS) October 20, 2018

Designed by Akira Toriyama, Kane certainly looks like a lot of Toriyama’s other designs amalgamated together, such as Dragon Ball Z’s Cell and Dragon Ball Super’s Hit fused together. While Bandai Namco has said that not every character in the game will be a playable fighter, specifically pointing to the tease of Death Note’s Light and Ryuk at the game’s reveal, it does seem like Kane definitely fights from the screenshots.

Jump Force releases on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC in 2019.

  • Fortnite Teases Spooky Halloween Content

    Fortnite Teases Spooky Halloween Content

Epic is never one to miss a good opportunity to encourage people to play Fortnite and Halloween is one of the best things to get people to enjoy new cosmetics. As such, the official Fortnite Twitter account has been posting teases of new content with the hashtag of Fortnitemares.

    Tombstones quake,
    Keep your finger steady.
    The circle will close,
    Better be ready. #Fortnitemares pic.twitter.com/ocd2VR1d19

    — Fortnite (@FortniteGame) October 21, 2018

The first tweet seems to show off a new skin or character with zombie-like skin. The most recent tweet shows the infamous Fortnite cube chained up and glowing. Users on Twitter have pointed out that the pictures so far seem to be connected by the patterns in the corner, as well, suggested that something will happen after four pictures get posted. Judging by the schedule so far, that means we’re halfway through and it will be another few days until it finishes.

While it might be a little late for a big event, it seems likely something is going down in Fortnite Battle Royale to coincide with the end of October. Fortnite Battle Royale is available on pretty much everything everywhere.

  • EA Motive Founder Jade Raymond Departs Montreal Studio

‘We wish her all the best’.

In a surprise move, former Ubisoft executive and EA Motive founder Jade Raymond has left the behemoth publisher. Games Beat reports that Samantha Ryan – who’s currently in charge of Maxis, BioWare, and EA’s mobile studios – will take over, fronting all of the company’s North American sub-units apart from Respawn and EA Sports.

The reason for Raymond’s departure is unclear. EA Motive was working on an unannounced Star Wars game, but it’s also functioned as a support studio for various games, including Star Wars: Battlefront 2.

  • Talking Point: What's the Background Behind Your PSN Username?

    My name is what?

PlayStation Network will finally allow you to change your username soon, and with that in mind we figured it’d be fun to share the history behind our IDs. So before we let you loose in the comments section, we got all of our team into one room and asked some hard hitting questions, like what is the meaning of ‘Quintumply’ anyway?

    Annette Magaña: anet123

Yup, it’s that boring. I butchered my name and it looks like my 10 year old self was as lazy as my present self. 123 because, why not? Maybe I thought I was too mature to have ‘cookieblaster’ as a username so… Yeah! I’d like to think I just knew to plan ahead from early on.

  • You Can Spend Up to £6,100 on Devil May Cry 5 with Ultra Limited Edition

    Includes replica coat.

In Japan, you can pre-order the Ultra Limited Edition of Devil May Cry 5. This might sound like a typical, over the top collector’s version, but Capcom is going all out with a pretty insane offering. This version of the game includes one of three replica coats — your choice between the three protagonists.

V’s coat is worth roughly £4,000, Nero’s about £5,000. However, if you want to don the coat worn by series favourite Dante, you’ll have to fork over around £6,100. Click here to find the pre-order page, but don’t all rush at once.

  • Alien: Isolation Devs Making a New Tactical Shooter

    What will it be?

Creative Assembly, the studio behind the highly regarded horror title Alien: Isolation, is recruiting for a new project. It’s not entirely clear what exactly the new game will look like, but from the job description, we can glean a couple of details.

The listing asks for a programmer to join the team to work on “a brand-new and exciting First Person Tactical Shooter IP” which suggests that it may not be Alien related. It’s possible this could be an offshoot of the franchise that focuses on strategy and cooperation, but it sounds more like a totally new IP to us.

  • Warhawk Fans Are Furious with Sony for Shutting Servers

    Didn’t give promised notice.

The iconic PlayStation 3 multiplayer game Warhawk will go offline later this week, after Sony announced a new round of server shutdowns last month. However, some fans are frustrated that the platform holder’s only given 30 days of notice for the closure, when its original box art guarantees that the company will notify players 90 days prior to any retirement. This was also true of its Greatest Hits reprint.

Here’s the manufacturer’s pledge in full:

  • The Inventor of Spider-Man 2's Web Swinging Takes Spider-Man PS4 for a Spin

    But what does he think?

When it comes to slinging webs across New York City, Marvel’s Spider-Man does a spectacular job, but it’s worth remembering when the mechanic became something special. Jamie Fristrom was the man responsible for the physics based swinging in 2004’s Spider-Man 2, the game often regarded as the best Spidey game thanks to that system. But what does he think of Insomniac’s effort?

This new video answers exactly that question. Fristrom hadn’t played the game yet and didn’t know very much about it, so hearing his thoughts on the new game and how its web swinging feels is pretty interesting. It’s worth watching to get his perspective, but in case you don’t have the time: he likes it, particularly the dive bomb move on L3. It’s always a treat to get some industry insight.
