  • The Game Awards 2018: Watch Sony Santa Monica Collect God of War's Game of the Year Award

    Oh, boy.

God of War won Game of the Year at The Game Awards 2018 overnight, and if you missed Sony Santa Monica’s acceptance speech, you can watch it in full above. The winning announcement was preceded by an incredible musical medley, which featured flavours and motifs from the soundtracks of all the nominees.

In her acceptance speech, studio chief Shannon Studstill thanked the team and the wider PlayStation family for believing in its new vision for God of War. It marks a particularly poignant moment for the first-party developer, as there were rumours it was in trouble following the cancellation of another project earlier in the generation.

  • Behind the Doors of Hello Neighbor: Hide and Seek, Available Now on Xbox One

In Hello Neighbor: Hide and Seek we wanted to explore the story of events that lead up directly to the original game. I know all of you had questions on what exactly happened, and why the Neighbor is the way he is. This is a very dramatic prequel, and some of you may need to take a moment to digest what happens here. I won’t spoil anything, that is up to you to experience.

So let’s talk about the game. It’s a story of two kids — the Neighbor’s kids. They have their favorite game – Hide and Seek. They constantly play around the house. And being a Hello Neighbor game, it dives deep into the imagination of children. From a real-world perspective, they’re just playing a game. From the kids’ perspective, they’re creating whole imaginary worlds.

Where things get a little bit darker — as you’ve seen in the reveal trailer — is when a tragic event strikes the family. And how kids deal with this event and cope with the loss of a family member. This coping is the core of Hello Neighbor: Hide and Seek.

From a gameplay perspective, you play as Mya, the Neighbor’s daughter. Your best friend is your brother Aaron, and you play an exciting game of Hide and Seek with him and your favorite toys.

Here’s what to expect from Hello Neighbor: Hide and Seek: Five fantasy worlds where you become a hunter in the wilderness, a firefighter, and more. An advanced self-learning AI, tons of interactive environments, and narrative-driven gameplay.

With the game available today on Xbox One, I’m really excited to expand the game’s world of Hello Neighbor with this dramatic prequel.

Hello Neighbor: Hide and Seek is available now on Xbox One via the Microsoft Store and is part of the ID@Xbox Winter of Arcade event.

  • Xbox Game Pass: Mortal Kombat X, Ashen, Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice, and More This December

Hello, Xbox Game Pass members! It’s been, what… a whole week since we announced new games coming to Xbox Game Pass? Time to drop a few more for December. We’re here to share the factual facts about factual games coming, in fact, to Xbox Game Pass with facts.

You already know that there are over one hundred great games at your fingertips… but wait, there’s more! Here is how to get the most out of your Xbox Game Pass membership this month (that isn’t just a shameless plug to go follow our Twitter and Instagram and ask you to share your favorite cat gifs with us):

    • Warn everyone in the house you might randomly yell, “Finish him!” when playing Mortal Kombat X
    • Caution them that when playing Pro Evolution Soccer 19 you could also burst out yelling “Goooaaaallll!” sometimes
    • Uh, just go ahead and buy the whole house a bunch of ear plugs
    • Promise yourself you won’t shriek, but know you’re going to get pretty freaked out after you start playing Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice
    • Play Shadow Warrior 2 and scream loudly as you play another game with someone stuck in your head, but this time you’re a ninja
    • Realize you’re probably still going to need to buy more ear plugs
    • Install Ori and the Blind Forest to give you all the feels, and less of the loud yelling, shrieking, and angry looks every time people walk past when you turn on the Xbox
    • Make room for the even more games we’ve got coming this month, but seriously, don’t uninstall anyone’s games to make room because they’re already a little mad about all the yelling
    • Convince your friends to play Spintires Mudrunner, and salvage your friendships over some (digital) time playing in the mud

Without further ado, let’s dive into some details on the new games coming soon to Xbox Game Pass:

    Mortal Kombat X (December 7)

Jump 25 years into the future as the epic Mortal Kombat saga continues. Mortal Kombat X introduces a new generation of fighters (including the return of some fan favorites), brilliant cinematic presentation, and the Character Variation system that allows players to pick from special moves, attacks, or weapons that impact both the strategy and fighting style of each character. Gather your best buds to battle it out in this fantastic fighting game.

Pro Evolution Soccer 19 (December 13)

PES 2019 recreates soccer by showcasing the power of football through authentic leagues and enhanced realism — and Xbox Game Pass members will have access to all the action! And now thanks to a recent game update that added new stadiums, team kits, and a new range of football boots and balls, the game is better than ever before. Xbox Game Pass members are invited to compete in the upcoming season of PES League, Konami’s official global esports competition, to find and award the best player of PES 2019.

    Spintires: Mudrunner (December 13)

In the harsh wilds of Siberia, take control of mighty, off-road vehicles in Spintires: Mudrunner. Experience mud, torrential rivers, and other harsh obstacles powered by an impressive physics engine that simulates some of the toughest environments known to man. Drive 19 formidable vehicles, each with their own customizable attachments with nothing but your wits and navigational abilities, or with up to three friends at your side in multiplayer! Work together to haul lumber and unlock new vehicles and maps as you go.

    Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice (December 17)

From Ninja Theory, one of the creative development teams added to the Microsoft Studios family earlier this year, and the makers of Enslaved: Odyssey to the West and DmC: Devil May Cry, comes a warrior’s brutal journey into myth and madness. Set in the Viking age, a broken Celtic warrior embarks on a haunting vision quest into Viking Hell to fight for the soul of her dead lover. Created in collaboration with neuroscientists and people who experience psychosis, Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice will pull you deep into Senua’s mind.

Ori and the Blind Forest (December 20)

Often described as exquisitely beautiful and heart-wrenchingly emotional, Ori and the Blind Forest earned critical acclaim – with over 30 industry awards to its name – and deeply passionate fans when it arrived on Xbox One. Moon Studios’ side-scrolling platformer combines incredible art, stirring music, challenging gameplay, and powerful narrative into a landmark game that shouldn’t be missed..

    Shadow Warrior 2 (December 20)

The lovechild to one of the most frantic franchises in the world and developer Flying Wild Hog, comes the best FPS melee combat system ever made. Slice your enemies into sashimi with lethal blades or go out with a bang using staggering amount of firepower and archaic magic to purge the world of evil. With those elements combined you have the wackiest, weirdest, and bloodiest looter-shooter ever made. Jump into the shoes of Lo Wang, your friendly, neighborhood ninja slash assassin, slash hitman, slash, slash, slash… Defeat unending waves of monsters on your way to solve the mystery of a girl magically locked in your head.

Aaaaannnddd if you missed it, at The Game Awards yesterday, we announced three more games coming to Xbox Game Pass. Seriously, just quit your job now.

    Ashen (December 7)

An open world co-op action RPG about a wanderer in search of a place to call home. As you adventure through the realm of Ashen, you’ll occasionally encounter other players in a passive, co-operative multiplayer open world. It’s up to you to decide how to deal with them – fight together against evil, invite them into your party or simply ignore them.

    Kingdom Two Crowns (December 11)

Work with other players in the brand-new solo or co-op campaign mode to build a kingdom and secure it from the threat of the Greed. Experience new technology, units, enemies, mounts, and secrets in the next evolution of the award-winning micro strategy franchise!

  • Obsidian unveils sci-fi RPG that could steal Starfield's thunder

In amidst a host of new game announcements – Far Cry: New Dawn, Crash Team Racing, and Dragon Age 4, to name only a few – Obsidian grabbed our attention with the announcement of a new, sci-fi RPG titled The Outer Worlds.

The developer is behind some of the best RPGs of recent years, including Pillars of Eternity and South Park: the Stick of Truth – not to mention 2010’s well-received Fallout: New Vegas. And the new RPG, coming in 2019, is giving us serious Fallout-in-space vibes.

The developer has been teasing its upcoming game for a few months now, but it was only at this week’s Game Awards 2018 that we got an official title and a general sense of the game.

The Outer Worlds will be a single-player RPG  set on “the frontier of space”, according to the trailer’s narrator – but a frontier that big-brand corporations have bought out and run for their own financial needs.

    Check out the trailer below:

Setting aside, the trailer shows off some slick animation, bleak but hard-hitting comedy, and a knowing awareness of usual RPG tropes (“You know you didn’t have to shoot either of them, right?”).

It’s a vibrant twist on the often dour worlds of Fallout, in a fun an expansive new setting – though this is essentially what we expected from Starfield.

Starfield remains a bit of a mystery, but was confirmed at this year’s E3 2018 as another expansive RPG franchise from Bethesda, alongside The Elder Scrolls and Fallout series. There’s no release date, though we expect it on next-gen consoles not earlier than 2020, and possibly after.

While the original Starfield trailer was sparse on details – effectively just a shot of a satellite in space getting sucked into a wormhole – we know the game is planning on being made in the same engine as Fallout and Skyrim, with the mechanics – and technical issues – that entails.

However The Outer Worlds turns out, it may be difficult for Bethesda’s eventual take on the space RPG not to feel like retreaded ground.

The closing tagline of the trailer sums up both the fun Obsidian is aiming to bring to its space RPG – and possibly fires a parting shot at Bethesda’s plans for something similar with its outdated engine:

“Welcome to the future… Try not to break it.”

  • PUBG Mobile 0.10 update: Snow theme, Vikendi map might arrive soon

PUBG Mobile 0.10 update: Snow theme, Vikendi map might arrive soon

Soon after kicking off season 4 in PUBG Mobile, players received a fairly rich 0.9.5 update with tons of in-game changes, bug fixes and new weapons. It’s been less than a month and the freshly leaked patch notes suggest that PUBG Mobile will soon receive the 0.10 update with even more substance in the game-play.

Of all the new features and improvements, what’s most exciting here is the hotly anticipated snow map, now officially known as Vikendi. If you don’t already know, PUBG has released an official beta of the map on test servers for its PC version today.

PC version of Vikendi (new snow map)

Vikendi – Quick gameplay, intense firefights in snow

The new map is said to be 6Kmx6Km in dimension and is all covered in snow. Unlike the deserted Miramar or topical Sanhok, this one is going to be a new challenge. Tencent in its announcement said, “the gameplay of Vikendi is quicker than Erangel and Miramar, but offers an arguably more tactical experience than Sanhok”.

There aren’t many details about the map yet, but the leak does tell that there will a new Snow weather mode, and a ‘Snowmobile’ to ride through the snowy ridges of Vikendi.

In the spawn area, players will get to throw snowballs at each other instead of Apples. Lastly, the leak says Vikendi will be available for download at 0:00 UTC on 20 Dec 2018 and will be available for matchmaking 24 hours later.

Bonus: Although the leaked changelog does not mention it, footprints and vehicle tracks might appear as players travel in snow-covered areas. This will help identify if enemies have passed by.

    PUBG Mobile 0.10 update

    Thematic changes

If you noticed the new Halloween theme in the main menu, be ready to get a new Snow theme with the update. Players will collect bells from all Classic mode matches and exchange them for rewards.

Shop’s front page will look even more focused on the themes of each major update.

    Matchmaking changes

Players will now be able to match players from other servers by enabling the option in settings. This will match players of the same tier from different servers in the game.

If you have been quitting matches right after they start, beware, because such players will be banned from finding matches for a period of time.

    Other improvements and fixes

The update comes with several tiny improvements. The leaked changelog suggests there will be a new control layout for players with large hands.

To make the gameplay fair and secure, players will be allowed to report for any suspicious behavior while spectating.

If things go as per the leak, players might soon get a relief from tapping the screen million times while collecting rewards. The new update is said to allow players to collect all daily mission rewards at once.

Also, there will be a Firearms Finish Upgrade System, where players can use materials at the Lab to upgrade certain weapon finishes getting additional kill effects, unique kill broadcasts, and death crate appearances.

Other Improvements include support for Arabic language, new quick chat commands and memory efficient chat system. Players now do not need to select a second language for matchmaking and chat.

Note that all the information is based on a leaked changelog of PUBG Mobile version 0.10. We will try and get our hands on the beta as soon as it is available, visit again for all the latest updates.

PUBG Mobile 0.10 update: Release date

The PUBG Mobile 0.10 update does not have a confirmed release date yet, but we expect it to land somewhere around December 18.

  • Far Cry: New Dawn Transforms A Familiar Far Cry World

Those who played Ubisoft’s Far Cry 5 to completion know it concluded with a Hope County-consuming mushroom cloud and a vindicated cult leader. While Project at Eden’s Gate’s Joseph Seed was right about the End of Days, the prophesying “Father” couldn’t predict what would come next for the rural Montana county and its inhabitants. Thankfully, Far Cry: New Dawn is eager to answers those questions.

Serving as both a sequel and standalone adventure, New Dawn picks up 17 years after Far Cry 5’s shocking final act. In the nearly twenty years since the bombs dropped, Hope County has not only survived the harsh nuclear winter, but has begun to bloom again. As such, the game doesn’t feature the sort of dreary environments typically representative of post-nuclear war worlds, but rather sports a vibrant setting marked by lush foliage, blue skies, and pretty flowers.

Still, it’s not all sunshine and lollipops on the other side of the apocalypse. Scarce resources have forced the hopeful survivors to defend themselves against the scavenging Highwaymen, a new enemy faction led by twin sisters Mickey and Lou. The sinister siblings – and their menacing, motocross gear-outfitted followers – take what they want, even if it means killing anyone brave (or dumb) enough to get in their way.

Players assume the role of a new protagonist, flown into Hope County to help even the odds against this growing threat. As in Far Cry 5 though, fans aren’t tasked with taking back the world all by themselves. In addition to supporting co-op play, New Dawn brings back Guns and Fangs for Hire. Because much of the population’s been wiped by World War III, however, players can only have a single AI ally join them at a time.

Luckily, these new companions can more than hold their own on the battlefield. Nana, for example, a senior citizen sniper with a tongue as sharp as her aim, can pick off distant targets with precision, while wild boar Horatio is perfect for up-close mauling. Those who prefer to fight alongside man’s best friend can enlist Timber, an adorable/deadly Akita; as an added bonus, dogs can now hop into vehicles and ride shotgun – with tongues and tails wagging – on their way to missions.

While fans will have access to a few gun-toting, fang-baring friends, weapons and gear are far more scarce since the world essentially ended. As a result, they’ll have to scavenge for parts, such as springs, duct tape, and circuit boards, to craft makeshift death-dealers. On top of featuring cool, hand-crafted looks, these new weapons pack quite the punch. The circular saw blade launcher, for example, works as advertised, but can also be upgraded to fling multiple projectiles simultaneously. You’ll need the extra firepower though, as New Dawn also introduces tiered enemy types – including new Enforcers – ensuring much tougher encounters against even non-boss adversaries.

Players can also tweak their weapons at a new home-base dubbed “Prosperity”, a safe, hub-like camp that also has dedicated spots for healing, cartography, explosives, and expeditions. The latter vendor offers something entirely different for the Far Cry franchise, the opportunity to explore beyond the primary open-world. Specifically, players can hop in a chopper and fly to dedicated sandboxes in California, Arizona, and Louisiana. These remote areas each sport unique biomes – like Louisiana’s crocodile-filled swamps – and tend to be more dangerous, but also contain the best loot.

Expeditions seem tailor-made for co-op, but players are welcome to tackle them solo with an AI Specialist by their side. Regardless of how you conquer these varied locales, you’ll want to brave them for the best upgrade resources. In addition to leveling your weapons to take on higher-tiered enemy types, you’ll likely want to be well-armed when facing wildlife that appears to have woken up on the wrong side of the apocalypse; Ubisoft isn’t sharing details on these potentially mutated beasts, but based on the snarling cougar – whose fur’s been replaced by a coat of mangled moss and rocks – we’re guessing they’re not friendly.

New Dawn is building on Far Cry 5‘s solid foundation, evolving its formula with fresh features, such as makeshift weaponry, expeditions, and a familiar world that’s been drastically changed. While it’s forging its own, standalone path though, it’s not forgetting the fans who survived Hope County and its cultists. The game features tons of cool call-outs to Far Cry 5, from your base camp being a severely transformed version of John Seed’s sprawling ranch to new Specialist Carmina being the grown-up offspring of Nick and Kim Rye. Fan-favorite Far Cry 5 characters, like Pastor Jerome and, of course, Hurk, also return.

Whether you’re craving a fresh adventure set or are just tired of exploring post-apocalyptic environments, New Dawn welcomes you to a whole new Hope County when it hits Xbox One February 13th.

Experience the Wild Open World of Rage 2 with a New Trailer

It’s not enough for us to just tell you how crazy the world of Rage 2 is. That’s something you need to see to believe – and we’ve got something new for you that’ll surely turn you into a believer, ahead of the game’s launch on Xbox One on May 14, 2019.

From the towering rock formations and Old World remnants of the Torn Plains, to the boggy swamplands and rusted junkyards of the Sekreto Wetlands, the post-post-apocalyptic world of Rage 2 is a living, breathing, murderous entity. The survivors who haven’t turned to lives of crime are just doing whatever they can to scrape by and rebuild society.

    Rage 2 Screenshot

    Rage 2 Screenshot

The team has created a world that captures this spirit of rebirth. Of course, you still have the roving bandit factions and the Authority fighting to take control, but underneath the chaos you’ll find hubs of civilization like Vineland, Gunbarrel and Wellspring, where the people have tried to bring a bit of normalcy back into their lives. There’s more life and personality to be found everywhere you look.

And that life and personality extends beyond the citizens of the wasteland, and into the wasteland itself. The various regions of the world – ranging from desert wastelands to jungles and swamps – serve to tell the story of a recovering Earth, while also differentiating Rage 2 from its much browner predecessor. Life is returning to the world with a little help from the EcoPods that have worked overtime to begin terraforming the planet.

And everywhere you go in that wide-open world, you’ll find something to do – whether it’s hunting down the various factions and clearing out their hideouts, taking down powerful enemy convoys, checking out the racing scene, or just exploring and finding new things to blow up.

Rage 2 is coming to Xbox One on May 14, 2019. Pre-order to receive the exclusive Cult of the Death God mission and don Nicholas Raine’s legendary armor and Settler Pistol. The Rage 2 Collector’s Edition is also available for pre-order.

  • Get Over Here! It Looks Like Mortal Kombat 11 Is Switch Bound

    Bring it.

Mortal Kombat creator Ed Boon walked out on stage at this year’s Game Awards to announce a winner of a select category and instead presented us with the surprise reveal of Mortal Kombat 11 – the next entry in the long-running bloody and brutal fighting series by NetherRealm Studios and Warner Bros. The game is arriving worldwide on 23rd April.

While no platforms were specifically mentioned by Boon, at the end of the announcement trailer the Switch logo was present (we’ve grabbed a screenshot for you below). The game’s official Twitter account makes mention of the Nintendo Switch release as well. This is a rather big surprise considering a Mortal Kombat game hasn’t appeared on a Nintendo platform since the 2007 DS release.
