  • Devil May Cry V Details Leak Ahead Of The Game Awards Trailer, Demo Tomorrow

Devil May Cry V Details Leak Ahead Of The Game Awards Trailer, Demo Tomorrow

    Update: The trailer is below.

On stage, Xbox chief Phil Spencer mentioned that the demo would be first on Xbox, which seems to imply that the demo will hit other platforms eventually.

    The original story follows:

Both Capcom and The Game Awards account had confirmed that new gameplay content for Devil May Cry 5 would appear at the show. Thanks to an accidental leak from the Xbox Portugal Facebook, the trailer released early, containing new information about the game.

The trailer shows all three playable characters, including the mysterious V. While his gameplay style has been kept under wraps, the new trailer shows that he fights using summoned demons and occasionally incorporating his cane in battle. He also appears to have a Devil Trigger, or at least some kind of mode that turns his hair stark white, and allows him to summon boss-caliber demons to fight alongside him.

In terms of story, V is seen offering Dante a job to help stop a powerful demon from resurrecting. It is hard to tell if the dissociated way he tells Dante about the job is meant to imply he’s hiding something or he’s just like that.

The footage also confirms that there will be a demo releasing tomorrow on Xbox One exclusively, there is no word on whether there is a PlayStation 4 demo in the works. This is not terribly surprising, as Capcom tends to offer exclusive demos to marketing partners, as they did with the Monster Hunter: World betas last year on PlayStation 4. It is not yet clear what the demo will contain or if it will have all three characters playable.

Also of note is that Bloody Palace, the arena-based ladder for players to test their skills against enemies, will be coming after launch in an update. Capcom says in the trailer that it will arrive in April, so within two months of the game’s release date.

We will update this post with the full high-quality trailer when it airs tonight at The Game Awards.

Devil May Cry 5 releases on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC on March 8.

  • Joker From Persona 5 Coming To Super Smash Bros. Ultimate

Joker From Persona 5 Coming To Super Smash Bros. Ultimate

Toward the end of The Game Awards tonight, a trailer was aired cutting out the lights to the theater. The Phantom Thieves of Persona 5 fame started talking about how Joker has been invited to steal a treasure, showing off the calling card, but then flipped it over to reveal a Super Smash Bros. logo.

Reggie Fils-Aime, president of Nintendo of America, then revealed that Joker is going to be the first DLC character for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.

The DLC for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is six characters, with the first, Piranha Plant, being free for purchasers before January 31. The remaining five, which includes Joker, are part of the game’s season pass. The game releases December 7 on Nintendo Switch.

  • Details on Vigor 0.7 Update: Breach

Details on Vigor 0.7 Update: Breach

In the previous update to the post-war shoot ‘n’ loot game Vigor, the team focused on technical improvements, significant looting and crafting reworks, and the addition of the possibility to play with a friend. Building upon the fundamentals, the new update “Breach” lets us bring some interesting gameplay additions to showcase the intended path for future development of the game.

    Breach the Barricades

The core of encounters, or matches, in Vigor is looting, surviving, and optionally trying to get the most valuable reward: the airdrop. In the future, we want to bring more variety to the formula, to which we take the first steps in the “Breach” update. Players can look for the Barred House: a barricaded interior area with a safe inside. Removing the barricade to get in takes some time, as does unlocking the safe itself; and whilst the safe is being unlocked, everyone in the encounter knows it’s happening. If you want to claim the reward inside, you need to plan your advance carefully, as well as be ready to bear the tension of waiting for the unlocking sequence to finish. Do you brave the additional risk?

If fighting is your cup of bitter post-war tea, beware. Once an Outlander kills three other people, the killer is marked to other Outlanders as a Threat, which lets them stay safely away ‑ or actively hunt the killer down! For more experienced players, this adds a new exciting level of challenge, whereas more careful Outlanders can use it to keep themselves a bit safer… hopefully.

Both these new events, as we call them, present new more-or-less optional objectives to spice up encounters. We’ll be adding more in the future; our intention is to randomize some events to change how one encounter feels compared to another, and essentially to add more fun to the gameplay. With the first events in, make sure to let us know how you like them!

    Party for Two

The “Ally” update main feature was, naturally, the addition of duos. We continue to monitor how they work, and implement some quality-of-life improvements, like the shared custom map markers. In 0.7, we answer players’ feedback about the reward: when there’s a duo in an encounter, the airdrop will contain two Boxes of Valuables. Will you share equally, or will you agree with your teammate to give both to either of you? The choice is yours. Additionally, if there are solo players present, the higher threat from duos is compensated by the potentially bigger reward.

In case you wonder how solo players and duos may mix up, let me elaborate. To preserve reasonable wait times before encounters, we may ‑ when necessary and as a temporary solution ‑ merge the two queues (solo and duo) together. That being said, we already implemented some improvements to the matchmaking system, which should result in shorter queue times for most players. We’re aware of problems mostly with Australia, Oceania and South American regions, and we’ll do our best to improve the situation in the future.

The 0.7 update also introduces Eva, our first female Outlander. While our work on her, and more women characters, is still in progress, we decided to let you try playing as her already, so we can gather your feedback.

    Games in the Game

Complementing the gameplay and player character additions, the “Breach” update brings two fancy Outlander gadgets to your Shelter. In the Firing Range, you can find handsome scarecrows to test your guns on. They take damage in the same way as Outlanders, so you can learn how much damage your weapons cause in various conditions. If you’re tired by all that shooting, you can calm down by solving the iconic puzzle cube, which can be found inside your shelter. If you fit into a certain age group, the cube comes with an additional effect of inflicting nostalgic memories.

In general, Vigor 0.7 Update: Breach is the first step in adding more gameplay content to the game. We plan to introduce more features akin to the aforementioned ones in the future, but at the same time, the team still works hard on fixing bugs and polishing the game. One of the top-priority issues at the moment is server performance, which sometimes hinders players’ experience during gunfights. Optimizing the game is an ongoing process and we hope to deliver some notable updates in this area in the foreseeable future. We also continue to gather your feedback (please keep it coming!), so we can build a unique and fun game together with you. On behalf of the whole Vigor team, thank you for your continuous support. Stay safe, Outlanders.

  • Review: Earth Defense Force 5 – Buggy in More Ways Than One

    A real bugger by yourself.

Earth Defense Force 5 is about as close as you can get to the definition of a guilty pleasure. It scoffs at the realism and deeper philosophical themes that are proliferating throughout modern video games as they become a more diverse and ubiquitous entertainment medium. EDF 5 unabashedly keeps both feet planted firmly in the past with its outdated structure, unattractive looks, basic mechanics, and hokey presentation – but despite all of that, EDF 5 still succeeds in providing copious amounts of mindless fun by relishing in the fact that blasting through hordes of giant bugs can be a bombastically good time in short enough bursts.

Earth Defense Force 5’s refreshing uniqueness and indelible charm stand out in a video game landscape that’s growing increasingly self-serious. As its name indicates, this is far from the first EDF title, but it remains strikingly original and fresh 15 years after the series’ debut on the PS2. It’s essentially the alien invasion B-movie video game: a third-person shooter in which you mow down endless hordes of giant bugs and UFOs while copious amounts of hilarious one-liners, stilted news broadcasts, and hammy banter play incessantly in the background. It’s amusingly dumb fun – especially if you have a group of friends to enjoy it with.

  • You Can Explore More Than Just Hope County in Far Cry: New Dawn on PS4

    Check out new gameplay footage.

Far Cry: New Dawn was one of the larger games to be announced during The Game Awards 2018, and while some felt an entry set in a post-apocalypse was a little uninspired, it’s not looking too bad. This new gameplay video from Game Informer features about seven minutes of footage, and while it looks exactly as you’re expecting, it sounds like it has its own ideas.

One tidbit that caught our attention is that you can take a companion character with you on expeditions outside of Hope County, Montana. Examples mentioned in the video include Louisiana, Arizona, and the west coast. You’ll be able to explore these smaller areas and scout for supplies and resources.

  • Review: Just Cause 4 – Explosive in the Wrong Ways

    Just bores.

There’s moments playing Just Cause 4 when you’ll almost certainly find yourself grinning from ear to ear in much the same way that you might watching a ridiculous ’80s action movie. It doesn’t matter that the characters are personified clichés, or that the plot’s limper than the lettuce in a Big Mac, because you just strapped four balloons to a car, then attached a rocket booster to the back of it and sent it flying into an enemy helicopter. The retina-scorching explosion that lit up the sky as a result needed only The Final Countdown playing in the background and it’d be about as glorious a moment as you’re ever likely to experience in a video game.

Now, imagine an open-world action game absolutely packed with bombastic, jaw-dropping moments like this, and that’s exactly what Just Cause 4 would be like if practically every mission in the game didn’t seem like it was intentionally designed with the express purpose of not letting you have any fun at all. What a letdown. It’s like they spent so much time perfecting the physics engine and crafting the various tools that you’ll be able to use to cause consummate mayhem that they didn’t leave themselves enough time to build a game around them. So what you’re left with is a title that allows you to dole out all manner of destruction in fantastically creative ways, but one that also requires you to invent your own reasons for using them, because playing the game as God intended scarcely affords you the opportunity to do so.

  • The Outer Worlds Is a 'Mix of Fallout and Mass Effect', and It Looks Like a Very In-Depth RPG

    Obsidian strikes back.

Oh boy, Obsidian’s really gone and done it. The much loved role-playing game developer has basically gone off and made its own Fallout title, except it’s set in space. Above, you can find 15 minutes of gameplay courtesy of Game Informer, who describe it as a “mix of Fallout and Mass Effect”. If that’s not enough to grab your attention, then we don’t know what is.

It’s got action, it’s got loads of dialogue options, it’s got loot, it’s got squad members — it’s a hardcore RPG. And yes, your character is silent.

  • The Game Awards 2018: Watch Sony Santa Monica Collect God of War's Game of the Year Award

    Oh, boy.

God of War won Game of the Year at The Game Awards 2018 overnight, and if you missed Sony Santa Monica’s acceptance speech, you can watch it in full above. The winning announcement was preceded by an incredible musical medley, which featured flavours and motifs from the soundtracks of all the nominees.

In her acceptance speech, studio chief Shannon Studstill thanked the team and the wider PlayStation family for believing in its new vision for God of War. It marks a particularly poignant moment for the first-party developer, as there were rumours it was in trouble following the cancellation of another project earlier in the generation.
