  • Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled Adventure Mode Gameplay Shows Off Cutscenes and Hub Worlds

    Survival of the fastest.

Just a few hours ago, a PlayStation Blog post from Beenox detailed the revamped Adventure Mode in Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled. Now, a new video courtesy of PlayStation Underground has made its way online, and it too focuses on the single player campaign. The 20-minute gameplay video shows off a bunch of brand new footage, so it’s worth a watch.

The differences between the Classic and Nitro-Fueled versions of Adventure Mode are explained — the latter lets you choose a difficulty level and allows you to swap out characters and change their appearance whenever you like, while the former is pretty much how you remember the original. We also see the intro cutscene, of course jazzed up for the remake, as well as various hub worlds and some races, including a boss race.

  • Sony: We Empower Our Studios to Push the Boundaries of Gaming

    The results speak for themselves.

Not every game in Sony’s first-party portfolio is a smash hit, but between projects like Dreams and God of War, it’s clear that the company gives its studios an unparalleled sense of freedom. Speaking at the Collision conference in Toronto yesterday, Worldwide Studios chairman Shawn Layden touched upon this a little – explaining that it encourages a culture where teams are able to “experiment and explore” in order to “push the boundaries of gaming”.

The executive added that it’s not just risk-taking which leads to creativity, but also the composition of the teams themselves. “As we broaden the tent for our games and we welcome those from every part of the world and every background, it’s important our development teams look like our fans. It’s important that we have a wide range of voices if we are to exceed the expectations of our audience.” He said: “Sameness is the death of innovation and creativity.”

  • First GRID PS4 Gameplay Footage Speeds into View

    Mean streets.

Yesterday, Codemasters announced the return of GRID on PlayStation 4. The series, which occupies a sort-of half-way house between arcade and sim, has historically been pretty good, and it introduced the idea of rewinding time to fix mistakes. In a new video from IGN, we don’t see this feature in action, but we do get a few minutes of regular gameplay to enjoy.

Slinking through the streets of San Francisco and then Shanghai is very GRID, and the new game is looking pretty sharp. It seems you’ll rack up points for overtakes and other manoeuvres, and a Nemesis system means other drivers you’re jostling with will become more aggressive.

  • THQ Nordic Acquires Piranha Bytes, Along with Gothic, Risen, and Elex IP

    Euro jank gets a boost.

Another week brings another THQ Nordic acquisition. It really does feel like it happens this often now, doesn’t it? This time around, the publisher has purchased Piranha Bytes and IPs the developer has worked on.

This means that along with the studio itself, THQ Nordic now owns the rights to the likes of the Gothic, Risen, and Elex IP. In a statement on the company’s website, Group-CEO of THQ Nordic Lars Wingefors said: “The three strong IPs have proven successful and will be great additions to our portfolio. We look forward to bringing Piranha team into the family which has received legendary status across the RPG community as their fanbase cherishes their current games and eagerly anticipates their new titles in the future.”

  • The Savior’s Gang Might Be the Most Bizarre PS4 Game Ever

    Low price point.

We’re errm…not entirely sure what to make of this. Just watch the trailer above and come back to us. The Savior’s Gang, coming to PS4 next month on 4th June, might be one of the most bizarre games to release this generation.

From developer Catness Games, you play as the savior – an entity trapped between earth and heaven. His death causes his father to unleash a number of traps and disasters upon the world, but it’s up to you to navigate your followers to safety. “The player will have to guide his faithful through several dangers that could damage them in the most possible grotesque and cruel ways. These can be dismembered, crushed, burned, drowned, infected and skewered among many other calamities.”

Cannes 2019: ‘Vivarium’ is Minimal, Twisted, Smart Sci-Fi Done Right

    Vivarium Review

There’s no rules, no limits, to the kind of stories that can be told in the sci-fi genre. They can be big or small, space operas or intimate dramas or even noir thrillers, commenting on and critiquing society, politics, and culture through smart storytelling. Vivarium is another terrific indie sci-fi feature, a twisted thriller set in only one location. This premiered at the Cannes Film Festival in the Critics’ Week sidebar, and was barely finished just a week before they brought it here. It’s also yet another new sci-fi film borrowing from “Black Mirror” and “Twilight Zone” as a contained concept that doesn’t provide all the answers, but it’s clever and captivating enough to keep us wondering what’s next. I dug this film. It’s my kind of twisted, minimal sci-fi. ›››
