    And We Go Green Trailer

“They realize later that this is the future.” An official trailer has debuted for a new documentary titled And We Go Green, produced by Leonardo DiCaprio, and directed by his collaborator on Before the Flood, Fisher Stevens (and co-directed by Malcolm Venville). The doc film is a look at the creation of Formula E, and all-electric version of the world famous Formula 1 races, which uses all the same tracks and similar vehicles that are quiet because of no gas. The film features footage from Jean-Eric Vergne’s championship-winning season. “The documentary encapsulates the true mission and purpose of the ABB FIA Formula E Championship, to show how competition drives technological development and how the excitement of sport can have a meaningful social impact and alter perceptions of electric vehicles.” This is one of two new green docs that DiCaprio produced, including Ice on Fire, premiering at Cannes. Looks pretty good – check it out. ›››

Captivating Trailer for Brazilian Sci-Fi ‘Bacurau’ Premiering in Cannes

    Bacurau Cannes Trailer

“Do you want to live or die?” SBS Distribution has unveiled an official promo trailer for the Brazilian film titled Bacurau, which is premiering at the Cannes Film Festival starting this week. This highly anticipated film is the follow-up to Brazilian filmmaker Kleber Mendonça Filho’s award-winning 2012 feature Aquarius. This is one of the few sci-fi films playing at Cannes, and the description hints at some kind of aliens being in this town. There’s even a UFO on one of the posters. “Described as a mixture of western, adventure and sci-fi, Bacurau is set in a small town in the Brazilian backlands that disappears from the map” after the death of the town’s matriarch at the age of 94. A filmmaker goes to investigate and discovers something much more mysterious. The film’s key cast includes Sonia Braga, Udo Kier, Jonny Mars, Antonio Saboia, Chris Doubek, and Karine Teles. This an enticing tease – just enough to leave me even more curious to see this. ›››

    And Then We Danced Trailer

“He’s so strange, this new boy.” Our friends at MovieZine.se have debuted the first promo trailer for a film titled And Then We Danced, which is premiering at the Cannes Film Festival coming up this month. This dramedy is set in Georgia (the country) but is made by a Swedish filmmaker, who went back to his Georgian roots to tell this story about dancers. The story is about a carefree dancer named Irakli who arrives at the National Georgian Ensemble, causing fellow dancer Merab to push himself more all the while he falls hard for him. “This film will not only be a very interesting look into a part of the world not so many people are familiar with but also a heartfelt movie about the importance of being free.” Starring Ana Javakhishvili, Anano Makharadze, Bachi Valishvili, Giorgi Tsereteli, Levan Gelbakhiani, Ninutsa Gabisonia. There’s just a small taste of footage in the trailer, but it looks excellent so far – lively and energetic and cute. ›››

“We have to learn to dance with the storm.” Yeah, you read that right. This doc film is the first ever “Airbnb Production”. There is a teaser trailer available for the documentary Gay Chorus Deep South, made by filmmaker David Charles Rodrigues. It just premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival last month, and should be released later this year. Vanity Fair spoke with Airbnb’s “head of creative” James Goode and he explained their involvement: “As a community, Airbnb is rooted in the power of people to people connections to drive belonging and this film tells that story.” Gay Chorus Deep South is about, as the title says, the San Francisco Gay Men’s Chorus following them as they embark upon a tour of the American Deep South. Many members will be going back to the communities they once fled, confronting prejudices and pain from their past. As expected, this looks triumphantly moving and inspiring, which is the whole point of their tour and the film. ›››

Official US Trailer for ‘Ghost Fleet’ Doc About Enslaved Thai Fishermen

    Ghost Fleet Trailer

“The fishing companies don’t like that we know their secrets.” Abramorama has unveiled an official trailer for a documentary titled Ghost Fleet, from co-directors Shannon Service & Jeffrey Waldron. Every year, tens of thousands of untraceable Thai fishing boats ply the sea. Captains buy slave crew and force them to work for years on end to put fish on American plates. They are ghost men on ghost ships. The film follows an activist in Bangkok named Patima Tungpuchayakul, who fights to free these men and bring them home. This doc presents the story of how a few men–a farmer, a motorcycle mechanic, a construction worker–escaped. This premiered at the Telluride & Toronto Film Festivals last year, and is getting a release this summer. We actually posted a promo trailer for this doc four years ago, but it took them another three years to finish it and debut at festivals. We’ve been looking forward to seeing this ever since and looks like it’s worth the wait. ›››
