  • Moving Forward, Onward & Ahead.

    Moving Forward, Onward & Ahead.

It’s a new begining here at RetroColect

Every time someone decides to call it a day, take a step back or simply sit back and enjoy their own achievements, creation, there’s always the added incentive that somebody else will step in to try and carry on the good work that the predecessor has worked so hard on.

How did we get here? Since 2010 the site has created a gravitational pull in the retro gaming community like none other. It’s the first place to go and the last place you’ll leave when it comes to the gaming relics of the past. For the past decade, RetroCollect has provided a central hub for those in the community to share, discuss and discover. For many, RetroCollect has almost become a second home on the internet, with forums and discussions spanning from modified systems to The Incredible Crash Dummies on the Super Nintendo.

The website has brought together us retro heads to celebrate what has for most of us, become more of a lifestyle than a hobby, more of a friendship than a past time and more of a dedication to the past than an escape from the present.

Dedicated members of staff and the community have helped to make RetroCollect the top place to go and have a natter about retro gaming. News, reviews, a dedicated Gaming Database & Rarity Guide and of course the forums have been at the forefront of the retro gaming community and everything that is good within the retro gaming scene.

Without the RetroCollect fan base that use the site daily, it wouldn’t be the place that it is today.

I’m happy, nervous and somewhat daunted by what I’m about to say next but at the same time, excited.

Shortly, at some point, maybe as I’m typing this or possibly as I’m playing Super Mario Kart for the eighteenth time this week , I’ll be taking over at retrocollect.com  as chief editor, head honcho, end of game boss and Shang Tsung.

Big, big boots to fill, I know. But those who know me also know that I am actually fond of retro gaming. So I think we’ll be ok.

The present might be forever moving forward, but those old games are not going anywhere. The website has a huge following and presence in the retro gaming community, so lets keep that going.

    Here’s to the future.

    Keep gaming, keep it retro.

  • Borderlands Studio Exec Leaves For “Dream Job”

Borderlands Studio Exec Leaves For “Dream Job”

Ahead of the release of Borderlands 3 in September, Gearbox Publishing boss John Vignocchi is heading out. The games industry veteran announced on Twitter that he’s left Gearbox for his “dream job” somewhere else.

“Leaving the company was one of the hardest decisions I’ve had to make and I wouldn’t have done it if it wasn’t for the love and support of everyone there,” Vignocchi said on Twitter. “They understood and encouraged me to take this role as it is truly a once-in-a-lifetime gig.”

Vignocchi said he had a great time working at Gearbox, where he served as executive producer for Gearbox Publishing for about a year. He specifically praised Gearbox founder Randy Pitchford and head of publishing Steve Gibson, saying they both know “how to bring out the passion and excellence of all the amazing [developers] that work there.”

Vignocchi didn’t say where he’s going after Gearbox, but he noted that he is going on a “bit of a road trip,” which suggests the new job is not close to Gearbox which is in Frisco, Texas.

    Here we go! ☺️ pic.twitter.com/PVLsKZJNW9

    — John Vignocchi (@JohnVignocchi) May 25, 2019

Vignocchi joined Gearbox in October 2018 after a long run at Disney where he oversaw Disney Infinity and other products and projects. He spent less than a year at Gearbox before leaving. Pitchford said goodbye to Vignocchi in a post of his on on Twitter in which he wished Vignocchi well in his new job.

Gearbox’s next game is Borderlands 3, which is due out in September for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. The company has made headlines recently not always for Borderlands 3, but behind-the-scenes controversy involving Pitchford and former employees.

  • E3 2019: The Simpsons Producers And Writers Are Heading To The Show For A Panel

The writers and producers of Fox’s iconic animated TV show The Simpsons are coming to E3 2019. They will appear on a June 11 E3 Coliseum panel where they will discuss … well, we don’t know. Given E3 is a video game convention, people are naturally assuming there will be a discussion about video games and potentially some news.

But don’t get too excited just yet. A sequel to The Simpsons Hit & Run would be fantastic news, but there is no word yet on if there will be any game announcements during the panel. We don’t even know who from The Simpsons team will be there.

Whatever the case, you can catch The Simpsons panel at E3 on June 11. Presumably it will be streamed live like the rest of the E3 Coliseum panels including the one where Netflix may announce video game adaptations of its shows. The E3 Coliseum is organized by games media veteran Geoff Keighley in coordination with the ESA, which owns and operates E3.

More exciting #E3Coliseum news – join the writers and producers of @TheSimpsons for a panel on June 11! More info to come… #E32019 https://t.co/QOa74rE263 pic.twitter.com/I3fOzO8t2n

There haven’t been any new Simpsons video games for console/PC in a while. The latest one was 2007’s The Simpsons Game, in which the Simpsons family discovers they have been licensed for a video game. Electronic Arts, which owns the license for The Simpsons video games, released a mobile game called The Simpsons: Tapped Out in 2012 and it was, at least for a period of time, a big-time money-maker.

In 2014, The Simpsons TV producer Al Jean said a Simpsons RPG was considered, going on to say at the time that he thought more Simpsons games would be made someday. Might it finally be time for a new Simpsons game to be revealed? It’s too soon to say but that would be exciting.

The Simpsons franchise is now owned by Disney following the company’s acquisition of the majority of Fox’s entertainment assets. In terms of the TV show, all 30 seasons will be available for streaming on Disney+ when the service releases in the United States this November.

For more on E3 2019, you can head to GameSpot’s E3 2019 hub for everything you need to know.

  • Hideo Kojima Releases Death Stranding Teaser – Is a New Trailer Coming?

    Create the rope.

What’s that Hideo Kojima up to now? Last we heard, he was busy putting together a brand new trailer for Death Stranding, a PlayStation 4 (and PS5?) exclusive we still know very little about. Many reasoned that the new video would make its appearance during the last State of Play presentation from Sony, but it was not to be.

Now, the creative game designer has released a teaser clip over on Twitter. What the heck does it mean? Well, your guess is as good as ours.

  • Sucker Punch Celebrates 10 Years of InFAMOUS with Fact-Filled Twitter Thread

    Originally called True Hero.

Today marks the 10th anniversary of Sucker Punch’s superhero series InFAMOUS, and so the Washington-based developer has taken to Twitter to celebrate the occasion with a thread packed full of interesting facts and mechanics that didn’t quite make it into the final game.

Taking a look through the thread, it uncovers a lot of behind the scenes facts we weren’t aware of. First off, the original InFAMOUS had a working title of True Hero. “We tried out many titles, and even at the E3 2007 reveal we were awaiting legal clearance for “inFAMOUS.” We had a backup trailer ready with an alternate title just in case, but luckily inFAMOUS was approved in time.” Thankfully, the team went with the far, far better name.

Cannes 2019 Awards: Bong Joon-ho’s Film ‘Parasite’ Wins Palme D’Or

    Bong Joon-ho's Parasite - Cannes 2019

The Korean master takes top prize! Winners of the 2019 Cannes Film Festival awards, including the coveted Palme d’Or, were revealed at a glamorous ceremony in Cannes, France this weekend. The big winner this year is acclaimed South Korean filmmaker Bong Joon-ho, whose new film Parasite won the Palme out of 21 other films in competition. It’s one of my favorite films of the festival (read my review), and pretty much everyone here loved it. There was a big cheer from the crowd when it won! One of my other favorites, Ladj Ly’s Les Miserables (read my review) took home the Grand Prix third place prize tied with Brazilian thriller Bacurau, and Céline Sciamma’s incredible film Portrait of a Lady on Fire won Best Screenplay – though it should’ve picked up more than just this, maybe even Palme. All the 2019 winners are listed below. ›››

International Trailer for Brazil’s ‘The Invisible Life of Eurídice Gusmão’

The Invisible Life of Eurídice Gusmão Trailer

“Why don’t you forget about that sister of yours?” Take a look at one of the award winners from the Cannes Film Festival this year. The Invisible Life of Eurídice Gusmão, originally A Vida Invisível de Eurídice Gusmão in Portuguese, is a Brazilian film made by filmmaker Karim Aïnouz (Madame Satã). This feminist drama set in Rio de Janeiro in the 1950s won the top prize in the Un Certain Regard category, meaning the jury voted it the best film from that section. The story follows two sisters, Euridice and Guida. They live at home, each with a dream: become a renowned pianist, or find true love. Because of their father, they are forced to live without each other. Separated, they will take control of their destiny, while never giving up on their hope of being reunited. Starring Fernanda Montenegro as Euridice, and Júlia Stockler as Guida, with Carol Duarte, Gregório Duvivier, Marcio Vito, and Bárbara Santos. In addition to the award, I’ve heard nothing but great things about this from everyone who saw it in Cannes. Keep an eye on this one. ›››

  • Travis Strikes Again: No More Heroes Breaks Nintendo Switch Exclusivity to Release on PS4

    Announced by Suda51.

Suda51 himself had been teasing an announcement taking place at his panel at MomoCom, and here it is: Travis Strikes Again: No More Heroes is coming to PS4.

Originally released earlier this year for the Nintendo Switch, the game was met with fairly mixed reviews, although our friends over at Nintendo Life enjoyed the experience. “Billed as a side dish, Travis Strikes Again: No More Heroes has been prepared with enough love and affection to become a filling meal on its own, packed with the spice and spirit you’d expect from Travis Touchdown. It’s a fun, indie-inflected blast of hack-and-slash which doesn’t change the world mechanically (and don’t go in expecting No More Heroes 3), but its sincerity and energy are charming.”

  • Nioh 2 Gameplay Footage Is Bloody and Impressive

Nearly four hours worth of video to digest.

Nioh 2‘s alpha test got underway yesterday, but footage of the early beta is already surfacing across the internet. Thanks to YouTube user Shirrako, we’ve got almost four hours worth of gameplay to munch on that those lucky enough to be invited are playing right now. Check out the first part above, while the second dose of 96 minute action can be found here.

We haven’t had the chance to watch every second of footage just yet, but what we have seen has left us impressed and seriously anticipating the Koei Tecmo follow-up. It’s all looking good and stable too, which hopefully means a release this year isn’t out of the realms of possibility.
