  • Penn & Teller Bring Scam Minigames to PSVR Next Month

    As pointless as it looks.

You may be familiar with Penn & Teller Smoke and Mirrors for SEGA CD, a daft minigame compilation designed specifically to scam your friends with. It never came out, but titles like Desert Bus have become urban legends, prompting remakes of their own. Now the American duo are back with PlayStation VR release Penn & Teller VR: F U, U, U, & U, which is due out on 9th July.

That name, by the way, stands for Penn & Teller VR: Frankly Unfair, Unkind, Unnecessary, & Underhanded – which sounds like a great way to describe one of the included minigames, where you’re supposed to lure pals into smashing real-world eggs. Look, it’s clearly not going to win any awards, but at least it’s being sold on the basis of how utterly pointless it actually is.

  • The Metal Gear Solid Remake Made in Dreams Has Handed Over the Tools to You

    Hideo Kojima Retweets.

Do you remember the thoroughly impressive Metal Gear Solid remake that was coming together in Dreams from about a month ago? Well, there’s good news and bad news. On a positive note, YouTube user Bearly Regal has been working tirelessly to fine-tune the opening area to create the best possible recreation, which you can check out in the video above. The bad news is that unfortunately, this is all we’ll be getting.

The creator has fallen on ill health, stating: “The original plan was to rebuild the entire game but unfortunately I don’t have the time to continue the project (and my health isn’t particularly great either) so I’m passing the gauntlet over to you!” It’s a sad turn of events, but Bearly Regal has done something to allow other creators to manufacture their own Metal Gear Solid levels.

  • Review: Crash Team Racing – Naughty Dog Created the Best Kart Racer on PSone

    Bandicoot power slide.

Start your engines, and fasten your seatbelts for another Naughty Dog creation. In this case it’s CTR: Crash Team Racing from 1999, which also happens to be the greatest kart racing game on the PSone. Released in the same year as Speed Freaks, and colourful mascot racers like Bomberman Fantasy Race on PSone, Crash Team Racing stood out with balanced gameplay, excellent controls, and reliable kart manoeuvrability. This combined effectively with graphics and a soundtrack that conveyed the fun and vibrancy of the Crash Bandicoot universe.

If you read the Nintendo Life review of Super Mario Kart, the original SNES title set out a solid template for gameplay in kart racing games. Crash Team Racing adheres to this model as you hop into a power slide around corners, collect ten Wumpa Fruit to make your kart juiced up, target speed boost pads, and use weapons and track shortcuts as a strategy towards victory. Just like in Super Mario Kart, on lower difficulties during the Arcade mode’s cups, a rival character will appear consistently on top of the leader-board for each race, yet this rivalry becomes less prominent on the hard difficulty, as crossing the finish line in first against aggressive AI competitors becomes more chaotic.

  • Review: Super Neptunia RPG – Only You Can Save the Gamindustri

    2D console wars.

Things have definitely changed since the last time we visited the land of Gamindustri (yes, that’s really what the world is called). For one thing, everything is now in 2D which, according to the locals, is the height of modern gaming technology. Super Neptunia RPG is a spin-off from the Hyperdimension Neptunia games, a super cute JRPG series that parodies the video game industry and doesn’t take itself too seriously.

Our energetic purple haired protagonist, Neptune, has unfortunately lost her memories… again. But she’s not the type to let a little something like that get her down, and it’s not long before she gets chatting to a shady organisation, going by the name of Bombyx Mori. They give you a job to keep you busy while you await the return of your memories, and so begins your life as a humble tax collector.

  • Was Halo: The Master Chief Collection Considered for PS4?

Franchise director weighs in on wild rumour.

Microsoft’s seemingly becoming more platform agnostic, with its software and services now exploring devices outside of the Xbox ecosystem. The thought of Halo coming to the PlayStation 4 is not as wild as it once was, then – although it does, at first blush, still seem pretty crazy. Speaking on a recent episode of the Sacred Symbols podcast, however, ex-IGN editor Colin Moriarty reckons that a port of the Master Chief Collection was, at one point, being considered for Sony’s system.

“I have it on good authority that Master Chief Collection was being talked about on PS4 years ago,” he said in a recent episode, which you can listen to through here. “Like, I have that on great authority.”

  • Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? – Issue 276

    Hangover.

E3 2019 has completely destroyed us it seems, as this is going to go down as the shortest WAYP in history. That doesn’t matter, though, because this feature is ultimately all about you. Make sure you drop a comment in the space below.

    Sammy Barker, Editor

I’m taking a little break from games after E3 2019, as I attempt to earn some real-life XP by exploring the outdoors.

  • Cyberpunk 2077’s Artwork Is So Good You’ll Want It on Your Wall

    Style over necessity.

There aren’t many games with artwork so good you’ll want to frame it, but Cyberpunk 2077 is right up there. CD Projekt RED has released a stunning new sketch, while various other prints have materialised online. We’re hoping that these are going to be released as wallpapers soon, because they’re absolutely spectacular. But let’s start with the direct-feed shot:

And now for the other images, which were on display at the Polish developer’s E3 2019 booth, and come courtesy of Game Front:

  • E3 2019: Overcooked 2 Latest DLC Adds a Horror Themed Horde Mode

    Bread rising.

Yes, you read that right: Overcooked 2 is getting a horde mode. The latest DLC for the co-op cooking game is called Night of the Hangry Horde, and it sees the return of the Unbread — only this time, you’ll be directly fending them off.

In this new mode, there will be multiple stations at which you can serve food, and doing so will placate the Unbread attempting to break into the kitchen. The add-on pack will also throw in a few new recipes to tackle, as well as some new chefs to unlock, new regular levels to play, and gameplay gimmicks to tackle. Despite what the tweet and trailer say above, it’s not quite out on PlayStation 4 yet; Team 17 says the DLC will be rolling out in a few hours.
