  • Is Sony Teasing a New Crash Bandicoot Game in Latest TV Ad?

    Is that Crash Bandicoot Worlds?

Sony released another cool TV advert just over two weeks ago, but upon closer inspection, the PlayStation community reckons the hardware manufacturer has buried a tease for a new Crash Bandicoot game within the 60 seconds of footage. We’re not entirely convinced, but the video above is timed to show you the supposed hint in question.

Did you catch it? At exactly 11 seconds in, you’ll get a glimpse of Crash racing about a car park. He is joined by an Aku Aku mask, and another which accompanies Coco Bandicoot that has never been seen in any Crash game past or present.

  • Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Patch 1.09 Available Now on PS4

    Nerfs the 725 Shotgun again.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare’s next update has arrived, bringing with it a variety of changes and fixes you’ve come to expect. Patch 1.09 focuses on the likes of Spec Ops, Ground War, and weapon nerfs that include the notorious 725 Shotgun.

The AUG submachine gun has had its damage at close and mid-range increased, while the chest multiplier has been reduced. Meanwhile, the 725 Shotgun’s base weapon damage range has been slightly reduced, the effect attachments have on the weapon shrunk, and a smaller effect when fired from the hip. For a full list of patch 1.09’s fixes and changes, head on over to Reddit.

  • Hands On: Shenmue III Is a Fantastic Sequel That’s Been Frozen in Time

    The follow-up fans wanted.

It’s been almost 18 years since Shenmue II released on the Dreamcast in Europe, but its long-awaited sequel feels like it’s been preserved in a time (toy?) capsule during that time. This is the greatest compliment that could be paid Shenmue III, of course: look beyond the richly rendered Unreal Engine 4 visuals, and the follow-up clearly subscribes to the very same design blueprint that famed director Yu Suzuki devised in the late 90s. This is Full Reactive Eyes Entertainment in its purest form, and if that awkward acronym means anything to you at all, then you’ll love this game.

It’s worth stressing right from the outset, however, that this is a weird package by 2019 standards. Those who’ve feasted on a banquet of Grand Theft Auto and Yakuza in recent years may be bemused by the glacial pace on offer here; gameplay is made up of a series of different strands, each designed to simulate real-life. This means investigations may devolve into mundane activities such as rifling through drawers and interrogating clueless inhabitants of rural Chinese settlement Bailu Village.

  • Mini Review: Bee Simulator – A Good Natured Game, But It Still Stings

    More like half-a-bee.

There’s a simulator for all kinds of weirdly specific things these days, to the point where it’s a bit of a running joke. Some really are trying to portray a true to life experience, while others use the moniker ironically. Bee Simulator flies closer to the latter camp, although instead of aiming for cheap laughs, it’s hoping to inform and entertain at the same time. Aimed predominantly at children, this is an education on the fuzzy little critters, but as a game, it’s unlikely to get much positive buzz.

Playing as a young honey bee, you’ll learn the ropes inside the hive before flying out into the Central Park-esque world. Your primary goal is to gather pollen from flowers by flying through rings and taking it back to base, but you’ll also engage in battles with antagonistic wasps, a Simon Says style dancing mini-game, and other side quests. Dreadful voice acting aside, the main story is really quite sweet, and completing it unlocks Free Flight mode so you can explore the large (but ugly) sandbox.

  • New Guilty Gear Is Officially Titled Guilty Gear Strive, Release Window Is Late 2020

    Still my heart is blazing.

The new Guilty Gear game — commonly known as Guilty Gear 2020 — now has an official title: Guilty Gear Strive. The full name was revealed in the fighter’s new trailer, which mashes up a lot of gameplay from characters who have been shown previously. It also has a little teaser for the return of Faust at the end. He’s looking suitably creepy.

What’s more, Guilty Gear Strive now has a release window: “late 2020”. Could it end up being a cross-gen title between PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5? We certainly wouldn’t bet against it.

  • Crash Bandicoot Buses Invade Britain

    Time to play.

Crash Bandicoot buses are popping up all over the UK, as part of a massive PlayStation promotion in the nation. The gigantic banner advertisements feature a fresh render of the contrary ‘coot, complete with the slogan ‘It’s Time to Play’. There are similar liveries being used throughout the country featuring Kratos, too.

Of course, this is noteworthy for a few reasons: Crash Bandicoot isn’t a PlayStation franchise first and foremost, so it’s fascinating that the platform holder is featuring him so heavily. Could a new title be on the horizon? Secondly, it speaks to the popularity of the character in the UK, where he’s something of an icon on these shores.

  • Dying Light 2 Release Window Not Narrowed to June 2020

    Clashing with E3?

Update: GamesIndustry.biz has now updated its interview with Koch Media’s CEO, removing a reference to a Dying Light 2 release date of June 2020. It now simply reads: “It’s distributing Dying Light 2 when it launches next year.” Because of that, the game is now still slated for a Spring 2020 launch.

Original Story: Dying Light 2 is very much on course to hit its Spring 2020 launch window, we learnt as much during our EGX 2019 interview with lead game designer Tymon Smektala, but it looks like that date has just been narrowed even further. The game is supposedly planning on releasing in the month of June 2020.

  • Review: Golem – The World Is Not Enough to Save This PSVR Title from Itself

    Rock slide.

Have you ever had one of those games you were really excited for, but once the game finally comes out you end up not just disliking it, but actually kind of hating it? Enter Highwire Games’ Golem. Despite being delayed over and over since 2015’s announcement, it doesn’t feel like a stretch to say more delays may have been the right call. What we have here is a game that gets several things right to an impressive level while completely and utterly dropping the ball in other key areas.

But let’s start with the good stuff. You play a bedridden child named Twine, living in a post apocalyptic fantasy realm, who discovers he is a “dreamer”, someone capable of controlling the mighty Golems. This ancient city is walled off, so the Golems are actually the only means of penetrating the magical veil. Once Twine takes control of the Golems, the open world experience really gets going as you slowly gain access to more and more of the city. The story and the world building are really great, and help enrich the experience, as does the sandbox itself. The environment and art direction are amazing, and the world feels both unique and interesting to explore. This extends to the animations as well, which are surprisingly good. The humans and Golems you encounter have a wide range of animations to draw from, and the fluidity is impressive. Finally, the music, from Halo composer Martin O’Donnell is simply divine. Incredible in isolation and in service to the game, Golem features one of the most beautiful scores of the year, and frankly, of the generation.
