    The Wife Trailer

“Don’t ever think that you can get their approval.” Sony Pictures Classics has debuted an official trailer for an indie thriller titled The Wife, which first premiered at the Toronto and Zurich Film Festivals last fall. Adapted from a novel, The Wife is about a woman who questions her life choices as she travels to Stockholm with her husband, where he is slated to receive the Nobel Prize for Literature. Glenn Close stars as Joan Castleman, with Jonathan Pryce as her husband, and a cast including Max Irons, Christian Slater, Harry Lloyd, Alix Wilton Regan, and Michael Benz. Described as “a poignant, funny and emotional journey; a celebration of womanhood, self-discovery and liberation.” This looks very, very good, with a very impressive performance from Close especially. Seems like it might actually be worth your time to catch this. ›››

  • Official Trailer for Graceful Death Documentary 'End Game' on Netflix

Official Trailer for Graceful Death Documentary 'End Game' on Netflix

    End Game Doc Trailer

“Helping people live as well as possible for as long as possible.” Netflix has unveiled an official trailer for an acclaimed new documentary titled End Game, made by filmmakers Rob Epstein & Jeffrey Friedman (of Howl, Lovelace, The Times of Harvey Milk). This short doc (runs in total 40 minutes) already played at the Sundance Film Festival earlier this year as an officially selected short film. End Game goes inside two San Francisco Bay Area medical facilities offering graceful death. Filmed and edited in intimate vérité style, this work follows visionary medical practitioners who are working on the cutting edge of life and death — and dedicated to changing our thinking about both. This looks very intriguing and eye-opening, which is always good for a documentary. It seems like it’s going to be a very tough watch, and a real punch to your emotions. ›››

  • First Trailer for Romantic Comedy 'Alex & The List' with Karen Gillan

First Trailer for Romantic Comedy 'Alex & The List' with Karen Gillan

    Alex & The List Trailer

“I’m doing the best I can with this stupid list!” Gravitas Ventures has debuted an official trailer for indie romantic comedy Alex & The List, made by director Harris Goldberg. This looks like a painfully awkward, somewhat amusing, kitschy indie romantic comedy film that looks like a fun performance piece for the cast. Jennifer Morrison co-stars with Patrick Fugit as a couple seemingly doing well. But one day, Katherine presents a list of “improvements” to make him better; at first he rejects but then concedes as he embarks on a journey through love. The full cast includes Karen Gillan, Julie Gonzalo, Eddie Kaye Thomas, and JoBeth Williams. This seems like it could be fun, but still very cheesy, as expected for these kind of films. ›››

    Sollers Point Trailer

“We’re going to start practicing waking up like normal people.” Oscilloscope Labs has released an official trailer for an indie drama titled Sollers Point, the latest film from indie director Matthew Porterfield (Putty Hill, I Used to Be Darker). The film stars McCaul Lombardi as a 24-year-old kid fresh from prison, now living with his father under house arrest in Baltimore, Maryland. He’s struggling to find his place again and trying to stay away from old habits that will get him into new trouble. The cast includes Zazie Beetz, Tom Guiry, Everleigh Brenner, and Jim Belushi as his father Carol. This looks like a damn fine film, with a great lead performance from this newcomer – those eyes, McCaul! And the way this trailer opens is fantastic – it’s such a powerful, convincing scene to start with right away. This is very much worth a watch. ›››

  • First Trailer for Giant Shark Movie 'The Meg' Starring Jason Statham

First Trailer for Giant Shark Movie 'The Meg' Starring Jason Statham

    The Meg Trailer

“That thing’s out there. We need to find it and kill it.” That is one big ass shark! Warner Bros has released the first official trailer for Jon Turtletaub’s giant shark movie The Meg, a long-awaited adaptation of Steve Alten’s novel, about a 70-foot long angry, prehistoric shark. The actual plot involves a group of researchers in a big deep-sea submersible stuck at the bottom of the ocean after being attacked, with Statham figuring out a plan to rescue them and get rid of the shark. The Meg co-stars Winston Chao, Li Bingbing, Rainn Wilson, Ruby Rose, Page Kennedy, Jessica McNamee, Ólafur Darri Ólafsson, Robert Taylor, Cliff Curtis, Shuya Sophia Cai, and Masi Oka. This movie has been in development for years and years, and finally got made after Gravity Pictures from China helped co-finance, and Turtletaub took at the helm. This looks like a horrifying, but still entertaining shark movie. I dig the old Sinatra song in the trailer, too. ›››

Watch: Space Travel Short Film 'Hyperlight' by Nguyen-Anh Nguyen

    Hyperlight Short Film

“If we landed with them, that means we should’ve ejected.” You have to see this impressive sci-fi short film titled Hyperlight, about two astronauts on a cool space ship traveling far to another place in the galaxy in another star system. Set at a time when humans have just achieved faster-than-light travel, this short has an ambitious concept but director Nguyen-Anh Nguyen pulls it off so amazingly well, with some slick VFX work and captivating sci-fi story. Hyperlight stars Jeananne Goossen, Peter Shinkoda, and Caroline Dhavernas. There’s a few big twists in this and lots to process, but it’s another must watch sci-fi short film. ›››

    Always at The Carlyle Trailer

“If you’re staying here, you feel like you made it.” Good Deed Entertainment has released an official trailer for a documentary titled Always at The Carlyle, the latest from director Matthew Miele (of Harry Benson: Shoot First, Scatter My Ashes at Bergdorf’s). The film profiles the famous hotel known as The Carlyle, A Rosewood Hotel, located in NYC’s Upper East Side at 76th Street near Central Park. This iconic, vintage hotel palace caters to the most prestigious guests from around the world, and it’s a rare look inside with what looks like unprecedented access. There are also tons of famous people featured in the doc being interviewed about the hotel – George Clooney, Wes Anderson, Anjelica Huston, Vera Wang, Anthony Bourdain, Roger Federer, Sofia Coppola, and Jon Hamm. This does look very entertaining and very fascinating, I’m curious to check it out. It’s cool that a documentary about a hotel can potentially be this good, but that’s why I love discovering new doc films. “This hotel is so much bigger than all of us.” ›››

Solo: A Star Wars Story Trailer

“Everything you’ve heard about me, is true.” Disney + Lucasfilm have debuted the second official trailer for Ron Howard’s Solo: A Star Wars Story movie, starring Alden Ehrenreich as a young Han Solo. It was announced last week that Solo will premiere at the Cannes Film Festival in May out-of-competition, before hitting theaters worldwide. The cast includes Donald Glover as Lando Calrissian (he’s going to be the best part), plus Emilia Clarke, Woody Harrelson, Paul Bettany, Thandie Newton, Warwick Davis (of course), Clint Howard, and Joonas Suotamo returning as Chewbacca.
