First Trailer for Spike Lee's 'Chi-Raq' Featuring Samuel L. Jackson

    Spike Lee's Chi-Raq

“Welcome to Chi-Raq! Land of pain, misery and strife.” Amazon Studios and Roadside Attractions have debuted the official trailer for Chi-Raq, the new Spike Lee Joint that’s hitting limited theaters this fall. Samuel L. Jackson narrates and introduces this film, and the full ensemble cast features Nick Cannon, Teyonah Parris, Anya Engel-Adams, Wesley Snipes, Angela Bassett, Jennifer Hudson and Dave Chappelle. It’s described as a modern adaptation of the ancient Greek play “Lysistrata” by Aristophanes, but it’s actually a look at the violence and murders in Chicago, and how the people can fight back together. ›››

  • Key & Peele Team with Henry Selick for Stop-Motion 'Wendell & Wild'

Key & Peele Team with Henry Selick for Stop-Motion 'Wendell & Wild'

Key & Peele & Henry Selick

Say what?! Yes! Crazy but incredible news. Variety is reporting that animation filmmaker Henry Selick, director of Coraline most recently, is teaming up with comedians Jordan Peele and Keegan-Michael Key for a stop-motion animated movie. The project is called Wendell and Wild, described as a comedy about “two scheming demon brothers who must face their arch-nemesis, the demon-dusting nun Sister Helly, and her two acolytes, the goth teens Kat and Raoul.” Oh yes, this definitely sounds like it’s from the mind of Key & Peele. It’s just developing now, but it has Selick attached to direct and co-write with Jordan Peele. I’m a big fan of all three of these people, so it’s exciting to see them planning a new project together. ›››

  • First Trailer for 'The Sound and the Fury' Film with Franco & Rogen

First Trailer for 'The Sound and the Fury' Film with Franco & Rogen

The Sound and the Fury Trailer

“Bring my brother back!” New Films International has debuted a trailer for James Franco’s adaptation of William Faulkner’s novel The Sound and the Fury, about the Compson Family living in the deep south in Mississippi in the early 20th century. Starring as Benjy Compson (as seen above) is none other than James Franco himself, with quite an ensemble cast to boot: Seth Rogen, Danny McBride, Scott Haze, Tim Blake Nelson, Loretta Devine, Joey King, and Ahna O’Reilly. This doesn’t have the best reviews, but Dan Romer’s Beasts of the Southern Wild score is a nice addition to the trailer. That’s all to take not of. ›››

  • Watch: Wonderful Stop-Motion Tribute to Ray Harryhausen's Work

Watch: Wonderful Stop-Motion Tribute to Ray Harryhausen's Work

    Ray Harryhausen Tribute

Aw, this is just marvelous. Animator Payton Curtis has put together an outstanding tribute to the legendary Ray Harryhausen, the special effects pioneer who passed away in 2013 at the age of 92. The video is titled Thanks Ray and what makes it extra special is that it also features two of its own brand new stop-motion characters created for this who kick back and watch Ray’s best work on VHS. I love that the VHS tape is called “Ray’s Gold”, just perfect. As always anytime we come across something worth-sharing like this, we have to stop and mention it, no matter if it’s a few weeks or a few months old and I’m happy to feature this tribute. I do love Harryhausen’s movies and all his stop-motion work, it’s still amazing to watch even today. ›››

  • Patrick Stewart in Christmas Elevator Comedy 'Christmas Eve' Trailer

Patrick Stewart in Christmas Elevator Comedy 'Christmas Eve' Trailer

    Christmas Eve Trailer

“I always knew I would die in an elevator!” Unstuck has debuted a trailer for Christmas Eve, a comedy about six different groups of people stuck in six different elevators in New York City after a power outage knocks them out. Patrick Stewart is in one of them that’s actually at a construction site, though the film is really an ensemble piece, featuring a pretty big cast. Mainly starring Jon Heder, James Roday, Cheryl Hines, Max Casella, Julianna Guill, Shawn King, Gary Cole and Christina Chong. Besides being funny, this is one of those feel good movies where you’re supposed to learn something about life, perhaps change a little, so there’s a lot going on. But six elevators all at once? Should be interesting. Give it a look. ›››

Must Watch: Trailer for Charlie Kaufman's Stop-Motion 'Anomalisa'

    Anomalisa Trailer

“Remember – there is someone out there for everyone.” Paramount has debuted the first official trailer for Anomalisa, the new stop-motion animated film from Charlie Kaufman & Duke Johnson. This funky sort of drama-romance-comedy mix deals with a guy who is tired of the “mundanity of his life” and meets someone unique on a book tour. Finally, we get to see Michael Stone, voiced by David Thewlis. Up until now, all the marketing or photos available for this film have been that one shot from behind the head, you never know what anyone looks like, but that’s all part of the experience. There are only two other voices: Tom Noonan and Jennifer Jason Leigh. We’ve reviewed this twice, with two positive reviews, and it’s worth your time. ›››

New Poster for Duncan Jones' 'Warcraft' Before First Trailer on Friday

    Warcraft

Get ready – the Horde is coming! Director Duncan Jones has confirmed that the first official trailer for the Warcraft movie will be online this Friday (November 6th). Duncan posted an extra photo to Twitter today, and Universal released a brand new poster showing the two faces of orcs and humans, with red and blue drips, split by a big ass sword. It’s a cool tease and a cool poster. Robert Kazinsky stars as Ogrim the Orc, Travis Fimmel stars as Anduin Lothar, and the full cast includes Ben Foster, Paula Patton, Toby Kebbell, Dominic Cooper and Clancy Brown. Hopefully the trailer lives up to the hype, stay tuned for that. See below. ›››

Final Trailer for 'In the Heart of the Sea' Starring Chris Hemsworth

In the Heart of the Sea Trailer

“As I live and breathe, he’s mine!” Get ready for a deep dive with Chris Hemsworth in the fourth and final trailer from Warner Bros for Ron Howard’s In the Heart of the Sea. Part of this was shown on TV during the World Series game, and now the entire very epic trailer is online. Hemsworth stars as Owen Chase, and he’s joined by a solid ensemble cast including Cillian Murphy, Frank Dillane, Charlotte Riley, Tom Holland, Ben Whishaw, Paul Anderson, Benjamin Walker, Jordi Mollà and Brendan Gleeson. This story is really lead by Hemsworth, and I am curious to see him take on the legendary white whale. I still think this looks like it might be really good, we’ll know soon. “Don’t you quit on me…! We’re going home…” ›››

    Cinema Compilation of Lens Flares

From the same editor who just made the Magic Hour video we recently featured, Jacob T. Swinney, comes another must see tribute to cinematography. We all know it’s a cliche joke to say that J.J. Abrams loves lens flares, but it turns out so do a lot of other great filmmakers (and cinematographers). This video tribute or supercut or “cinema compilation” or whatever you want to call it features a whole bunch of outstanding lens flare shots in movies of all kinds. Besides J.J., there are films from PTA, Edgar Wright, Zack Snyder, Malick, Spielberg, Rian Johnson, Tarantino, and many others. I’m a fan of lens flares, I think they can add a strong dynamic when used well, and this video has so many stellar examples of lens flares being used well. Enjoy. ›››

Check Out These Unique Day of the Dead-Themed 'Star Wars' Posters

Star Wars Day of the Dead

In Mexico this weekend they’re celebrating the Day of the Dead, an event known for its masks and stylized artwork not to mention skeletons galore. With a new Star Wars movie coming up, Fandango asked a few of their favorite artists to create their own Day of the Dead-themed Star Wars posters and these are the result. All this art is inspired by the entire Star Wars universe and its cool to see such unique and intricate designs. Even though they’re not really connected with The Force Awakens, I had to share them anyway to keep us all in the Star Wars mood. We’re just 7 weeks away until the new movie opens. Check them below. ›››
