Paul Rudd & Craig Roberts in 'The Fundamentals of Caring' Trailer

    The Fundamentals of Caring Trailer

“My child has a unique sense of humor…” Netflix has debuted the trailer for an indie comedy called The Fundamentals of Caring, from comedian/writer/producer Rob Burnett. The film stars Paul Rudd as a depressed guy who becomes a caregiver, and his first job is caring for Trevor, a lonely teen with muscular dystrophy confined to a wheelchair, played by Craig Roberts. It’s a charming and amusing story about how Ben convinces Trevor to go on a roadtrip, teaching him how to explore the world and appreciate what it has to offer despite his physical limitations. The cast includes Selena Gomez, Jennifer Ehle, Megan Ferguson and Frederick Weller. This first premiered at the Sundance Film Festival and it’s actually pretty good (read my review here), with enough heart and humor to make it memorable. Take a look below. ›››

Watch: Trailer for Weird Sci-Fi Film 'The Call Up' About Virtual Reality

    The Call Up Trailer

This time it’s for real. Vertical Entertainment has released an official trailer for a sci-fi action film called The Call Up, from writer/director Charles Barker about a virtual reality video game that turns out to be more than just a simple, harmless video game. The story follows a group of gamers invited to participate in a brand new shoot-’em-up virtual reality experience, but they soon discover it may not be a “game” after all. This sounds like it’s borrowing the Ender’s Game concept and combining it with the virtual reality craze. The cast includes Max Deacon, Morfydd Clark, Ali Cook and Christopher Obi. It actually looks like it has some solid action, but I’m not sure if the rest will be any good. The suits look a bit cheesy. Take a look. ›››

  • Review: Bryan Singer's 'X-Men: Apocalypse' is a Scattered & Stale Mess

Review: Bryan Singer's 'X-Men: Apocalypse' is a Scattered & Stale Mess

    X-Men: Apocalypse

16 years and 8 films have passed since the beginning of the X-Men series. It’s hard to believe director Bryan Singer is still trying his hand in this particular cinematic universe, but the X-Men series has created something of a wheelhouse for the filmmaker who has left and returned to it. You’d think his voice would be ever-present even in offshoots like The Wolverine and Deadpool. Alas, X-Men: Apocalypse, the latest entry helmed by Singer, is a mess, a hodgepodge of generic ideas, paint-by-numbers action, and a continuity that will leave anyone who has followed along with the previous 8 films slapping themselves in the forehead. Singer can’t even pull convincing performances out of the staggering cast built up throughout the franchise, and X-Men: Apocalypse quickly proves itself to be a stale and blasé entry into this once-promising series. ›››

  • First Trailer for Todd Solondz's Highly Disliked New Film 'Wiener-Dog'

First Trailer for Todd Solondz's Highly Disliked New Film 'Wiener-Dog'

    Wiener-Dog Trailer

IFC has debuted an official trailer for Todd Solondz’s new film Wiener-Dog, which premiered at Sundance earlier this year. Unfortunately the film was hated by pretty much everyone who saw it, including everyone I know with maybe one or two exceptions. Then again, this is kind of filmmaking that Solondz is known for, with deadpan dark humor and melodramatic scenes that don’t amount to much. The cast of Wiener-Dog includes Ellen Burstyn, Kieran Culkin, Julie Delpy, Danny DeVito, Greta Gerwig, Tracy Letts, and Zosia Mamet. However, the film’s real star is the adorable dachshund dog, who changes the lives of all the various people she meets throughout her life. As charming as that synopsis sounds, don’t be fooled by it. ›››

  • How Bryan Singer's Original 'X-Men' Helped Define Superhero Movies

How Bryan Singer's Original 'X-Men' Helped Define Superhero Movies

    Bryan Singer - X-Men

I’ll never forget seeing movies the summer of 2000. I was 11 years old and I was impatiently awaiting this one summer blockbuster that honestly looked unlike anything I had seen before. I remember seeing adverts for the movie in Circuit City. Does anyone remember the original teaser trailer for the film? The tagline teased “Change is coming“. I don’t think anyone had any idea what that could possibly mean sixteen years later. While Blade and the success of that film made a huge impact just two years earlier, Bryan Singer’s X-Men and its sequel X2: X-Men United arguably jump-started and helped define the entire superhero genre as we know it. Let’s take a look at how the genre has changed and evolved nearly two decades later. ›››

  • New 'Heroes' Trailer for 'Deepwater Horizon' Starring Mark Wahlberg

New 'Heroes' Trailer for 'Deepwater Horizon' Starring Mark Wahlberg

    Deepwater Horizon Trailer

“We a big company, millions of moving parts… We all work very hard to ensure those moving parts are functioning…” Lionsgate has debuted a second trailer for Peter Berg’s Deepwater Horizon, the disaster movie profiling the explosion on the Deepwater Horizon oil rig in the Gulf of Mexico. The main focus is on Mark Wahlberg as one of the workers on the rig, along with his girlfriend played by Kate Hudson. The ensemble cast also includes Dylan O’Brien, Gina Rodriguez, John Malkovich, Kurt Russell, Ethan Suplee, and others. This certainly looks like a very patriotic, heroic Peter Berg movie, for better or worse. ›››

  • Watch: Official Trailer for Creepy 'Clown' Horror Produced by Eli Roth

Watch: Official Trailer for Creepy 'Clown' Horror Produced by Eli Roth

    Clown Trailer

“Lure people out of the villages into its cave with his white face and red nose…” The Weinstein Company has debuted a trailer for the horror film Clown, which is directed by Jon Watts, the filmmaker now set to direct the next Spider-Man movie. It’s actually based on a fake trailer that Watts originally made in 2012 that included fake credits for producer Eli Roth. Roth actually saw the trailer, got involved, and helped them make a feature version and this is the final product. The concept is about a clown suit that a father finds that when he puts it on turns him into an evil child-eating clown, which reminds me a bit of Santa Clause or The Mask (though this is much, much more sinister). The cast includes Andy Powers, Laura Allen, Peter Stormare, Christian Distefano, Chuck Shamata, and Elizabeth Whitmere. See both trailers below. ›››

  • Watch: 'Feast' Director Patrick Osborne's New Animated Short 'Pearl'

Watch: 'Feast' Director Patrick Osborne's New Animated Short 'Pearl'

    Pearl Animated Short

Another lovely story from Patrick Osborne. Most of you will remember the animated short Feast that played before Disney’s Big Hero 6 in 2014, as it told a love story while focused on an adorable little Boston Terrier puppy. Well, good news as the new short from Patrick Osborne is now online. It’s actually Google 360 short, meaning you can interact with and spin the video any way you want, since it’s set entirely inside a hatchback. The story is about a father and his daughter, named Pearl, and the times they spent together. It’s as wonderful as Feast if not even more so. “It’s not where you’re from, but where you belong…” See below. ›››

    Rogue One Artwork

Get a load of this! The original Star Wars: A New Hope was released in theaters today, on May 25th, exactly 39 years ago. To celebrate the occasion, Lucasfilm launched a new episode on YouTube of “The Star Wars Show”. If you’re a huge Star Wars geek anxiously awaiting the next movies, this is worth watching because it starts out with Chewbacca (yes, the real one!) on the set of Star Wars: Episode VIII with an appearance by director Rian Johnson. Later in the video, they reveal the first art for the upcoming Star Wars Celebration Europe event – which is a kick ass piece of art featuring some characters from The Force Awakens and the upcoming Rogue One. Our friends at SlashFilm were able to score a high res version in order to provide fans with a closer look at some of the characters, including Death Troopers which we haven’t really seen yet. ›››

  • First Trailer for Rock Star Drama 'Len and Company' with Rhys Ifans

First Trailer for Rock Star Drama 'Len and Company' with Rhys Ifans

    Len and Company Trailer

“Real rock & roll music is heat and motion and intensity, it’s channeling the beast from within.” IFC Films has debuted a trailer for the indie drama Len and Company, starring Rhys Ifans as a rock star turned in-demand pop producer who has a meltdown and retreats to upstate New York. His peace is interrupted by the appearance of his estranged son, played by Jack Kilmer, and up-and-coming pop star Zoe, played by Juno Temple, who try to shake “the prickly Len out of his stupor”. The full cast includes Keir Gilchrist, Kathryn Hahn, Elias Toufexis, and Tyler Hynes. This looks solid, with a great performance from Ifans. ›››
